It has NEVER been possible to purchase an unlocked iPhone 3G in the US. Your phone was hacked. Updating it has re-locked it to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones for any reason.
The phone is now useless to you. There is no legitimate way to fix this. Buy a new phone. Preferably in India. -

First..the easy ?, I want to transfer the software from laptoip to desktop for use at home.
Second, I bought this to try to animate a steam engine and the various implements that it can power. I started with a jpeg and then wanted to make a flickering fire in the cumbustor, show the heat rising up through the boiler, piston moving etc.. does that need to be done in separate layers like in photoshop elements and then attach the behavior or separate groups?
Thanks!!Reply to "First ... the easy?" Hopefully it is easy. If the desktop has the same log-in to the App Store as the laptop then all you have to do is:
1. boot up the desktop and log in.
2. go to the App Store and check for software updates (click on the apple in the upper left corner - it's a Mac, isn't it? - and select "Software updates ...")
2a. If it isn't a Mac, then go to the App Store and log in with the same name and password as what the application was bought with,
3. With a Mac, the App Store will check the computer for for updates, discover Motion 5 isn't there, and let you download it.
Unless there is something unusual, that should about do it. Hopefully I haven't muddled a step, but if so, hopefully you can work your way through.
As for the Part B of the post, the flickering flame, that's going to take more work. Sounds like an interesting project, though. -

Contact the carrier the phone is locked to and find out what their policy is for unlocking. The SIM slot on the Verizon iPhone 5 is already unlocked.
Sprint will only unlock the SIM slot for international use for current Sprint customers in good standing.
AT&T will unlock iPhones purchased as no-commitment phones with proof of purchase from Apple or AT&T or for customers who have completed their contract or paid the early termination fee.
T-Mobile phones are already unlocked.
The other US carriers do not offer unlocking for iPhones. -

I bought this iPhone while backpacking through Europe 2 years ago. It was the first thing i did after i got off the airplane to help me navigate, book hostels, trains, flights, and talk with family back home. it cost me around 700-800 US dollars, full price since they do pricing/contracts different over in the UK.
It's been a couple years, and I'm ready to ditch my 6 year old Samsung and move on to this iPhone. The problem is, since i wasn't using the UK service for a while, they dropped my number/user account completely and they can no longer unlock my iPhone. I talked to AT&T and the Apple store, and they said that the only way I can unlock my iPhone is by contacting the service company that i originally purchased this from--whom can't help since i no longer have an account with them.
How do i LEGALLY unlock this iPhone for use in the US?Only the wireless provider to which an iPhone is locked can unlock it.
You may have to get a PayAsYouGo sim from that provider to activate
your account with them so you can get the iPhone unlocked.
There is not other legal way to unlock the iPhone for use with other than
the wireless carrier to which it is locked. Contact them to see what options
they offer for re-activating the iPhone on their network. -

Contact the carrier it is locked to. Assuming it is locked to AT&T, and you are/were actually an AT&T customer who either fulfilled your contract or paid the early termination fee (or purchase a no commitment phone), then you can have it unlocked.
If you are/were not an AT&T customer, they will not unlock it. The phone is useless to you. Sell it and buy one in the UK.
If it is a Verizon or Sprint phone, just sell it. You can't use it at all. Those are CDMA phones and will not work on a GSM network. -

There is no such thing as a Sprint/Virgin phone. It's either a Sprint phone, or a Virgin phone.
If it's a Sprint phone, and you are a Sprint customer in good standing, then contact Sprint. They can unlock it for use on non US carriers.
If it is not a Sprint phone or you do not meet Sprint's conditions for unlocking, or your intent is to use it on a different US carrier, you may as well sell it. Virgin in the US does not offer unlocking. -

The password is set on the WiFi router providing the service, by the owner of the network to prevent unwanted "guests" accessing the network. The only way to know it is to ask the owner permission to use the network. Otherwise, you have to find a free WiFi hotspot that doesn't require a password.
