HT2638 iphoto 09-retrieving photos.

There is a photo in my library database that I can view in a thumbnail. However when it's clicked an exclaimation mark appears. I've followed steps to "Find" the photo and when I do it says the file is empty. I have no way of reloading the photo again as it has been deleted from the camera and is not in any other file on the computer. Is there any way I can retrieve it from the iphoto library?

I followed everything here on the Apple Support website..http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1261
I would say it's a lost cause and requires the photo to be uploaded again, but I don't have the means to do that. Just thought that because I can actually see the photo in the album there might be a way to get it back.

  • IPhoto not retrieving photos

I have iPhoto 11, and when I open the program, a message window saying "Alert the photo _____ (file name) could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." How can I fix this?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Is there any way to retrieve photos that were put in the trash can and then it was emptied?  Or is there a way to move photos from an imovie to iphoto?

Is there any way to retrieve photos that were put in the trash can and then it was emptied?  Or is there a way to move photos from an imovie to iphoto?

If you've emptied the trash, ehtn no. However if you have a backup, like Time Machine, or a recent backup copy of your photo library you could recover the photos from the trash.
The answer to getting a snapshot form iMovie depends on what version you have.
I should add it technically may be possible to recover the emptied trash, but if you really want to do that you would need to download a utility software that can attempt to recover deleted files. Do it soon before you start writing more data to that disk. At the moment I don't have a recommendation for such a program. Maybe someone else out there will offer suggestion.

  • How do i retrieve photos from iphoto on a time machine backup?

how do i retrieve photos from iphoto on a time machine backup?

To restore the entire library do the following:
For a single photo you need to  know the file name?  If so you can extract photos one at a time out of the TM backups for import into iPhoto.  You would do it as follows:
1 - download and launch  Find Any File.
2 - select the Time Machine external hard drive.
3 - enter the file name and search. It will take longer than a normal search due to the nature of the Time Machine structure, maybe up to 1 miinute.
4 - select the file that is in the Masters or Originals folder in the search results window and drag to the Desktop where it can be imported into iPhoto:

  • Is there a way to create a text (key word) field that is searchable to help retrieve photos more quickly

I would like to create a text field associated and linked to each photo in my iPhoto library so that I can more quickly retrieve photos. I would also like to have a field that describes what was taken for each photo that that information might be printed when printing a photo.

You can do what you want by printing the photos on a contact sheet.  Add the keywords to the photos anb the description to the Description field in the Info tray at the right.  Select the Contact list as the layout to print, select the no. of columns  and, under settings, select Keywords and Description.

  • Cannot retrieve photos from external hard drive

I had to upgrade my OS so that i could download the newest version of adobe photoshop.  this upgrade also upgraded my iPhoto and erasing all photos.  I do have photos backed up on external hard drive but cannot retrieve photos from the external hard drive.

this upgrade also upgraded my iPhoto and erasing all photos.
No update to the OS upgrade iPhoto too. So something else is going on there.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Is there a way to retrieve photos which were accidentally erased?  I can still see all of the images in my library but can not open them?  Thanks

Is it possible to retrieve photo images which were deleted by mistake.  I continue to see all of the images in my library but am unable to open them  Thanks

Are you asking about iPhoto on your Mac? This is the iPhoto on IOS devics forum.
What is your iPhoto version? And what happened to delete your photos?
Do you mean, you see the images in your iPhoto library, when you are browsing them, but you cannot edit them?
Then probably the original master image files are no longer there, but the previews are. If you are using iPhoto '11 you can see the Previews inside the iPhoto Library in the folder "Previews", when you ctrl-click the iPhoto Library and select "Show Package Contents".

  • Retrieving photos

How do I retrieve the photos taken from my mobile devices onto my Mac from iCloud?

Do waht Axeman1020 suggested for continued future importing of all photos taken with your mobile devices into your iPhoto LIbrary.  Set up iPhoto as shown here:
However, to get all of your current photos into your iPhoto Library connect each device to your Mac, open iPhoto and import the photos into the library. DO NO let iPhoto delete the photos from the mobile device.  Always do that on the device.
If there are any duplicates iPhoto will alert you and give you the opportunity to exclude them from the importation.

  • When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder to iphoto, what happens if:
    1. I delete that photo in iphoto? will the original file in the folder be deleted too ?
    2.  when importing, does the hard disk store 2 versions of the photo, hence occupying additional space in the harddisk?

1 - no  --  iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management

  • After upgrading to Yosemite (I don't have iPhoto anymore, only PHOTOS) my pictures will not import from my iPad or iPhone 5s or any picture from web, it shows "Database Error: failured to persist version"

After upgrading to Yosemite (I don't have iPhoto anymore, only PHOTOS) my pictures will not import from my iPad or iPhone 5s or any picture from web, it shows "Database Error: failured to persist version".  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry,
Yes, the error message is exactly like that  ("Database error: failured to persist version")
No photos will import at all.  I use USB to import from iPhone 5s or iPad 2.
About the difference?  iPhoto and Photos .  Are there two softwares?
I also will like to merge and/or synchronize all my photos I had saved to iCloud backups, Macbook Pro,  iPhone 5s and iPad hard drives using iPhoto.  It's call iPhoto library.  At one point I turned off streaming.
    Thanks again Larry HN.
