HT5260 slide show screen saver not working
after I upgraded to mountain lion my slide show screen saver does not load and hols up my screen forever till sometime i have to force quit to be able to do anything else
Old T - I was not trying to use a theme from the default ML new shows. Some time ago - long time - I found out that the old slide screen savers built into OSX, Beach, Cosmos, Nature, etc., had their photos stored in the package contents Resources folder. It was then easy to create my own cusom show, y simple replacing the jpegs, and a little editing on the plist. Those gave you a little more options as well in the setup.
ML did away with all that, and you get Apple's choices and that's all. I did find out where the default "collections" are kept, and it appears that until someone gets a better hack, that I simply did the same thing here.... I replaced the jpegs in the National Geographic Collection with the slides from my old custom collection - actually I added - any Natl Geo shot is a good one!
So while we cannot control the action any more, I still have what I want. Sort of. I suppose I could have just pointed the Ken Burns Effect to the Custom Slides folder I have and accomplished the same thing. I guess I editted the default collection on principle!
Did they reallly need to mess with the Screen savers!!

I'm looking for a OS9 screen saver that works like the slide show screen saver in OSX. I have an old Performa that i've upgraded to a G3 and am running 9.2.2. I use it for email, iTunes, and scanning. I'm running a G4 mirror for the rest of my work. G4 has the screen saver of my slide show of my family photos running on it when it's idle. Would be nice to have both screens running the same thing...this is nitpicky i know...
I've seen a lot of 3rd party stuff that "almost does it", or is buggy and makes my Performa hiccup. I'd prefer to use something Apple based...any ideas out there?I use Screen Gear Pro v3.5 which is available here: http://www.screengear.com.gu/. It's a great app to show your pics (it can also play music) in a screensaver. Versions are available for classic OS & OS X. It's shareware for $15.

Screen saver not working in KDE 4.6
I can't seem to get my screen saver to work on my netbook running KDE 4.6.1, I have tried removing all the the user settings for KDE and starting with fresh configs but that did solve the issue. I can go into the System Settings and test the screen savers, in which case they work there, but it does not come on when the system times out, I have it set to five minutes. Could this be caused by a missing package or something needed for the screen saver to work?

Thank you, it was the same for me. Starting dbus and then restarting KDE fixed everything. I added dbus in the daemon array, so everything should be in place now.

Windows 7 screen saver not working with TV@nywhere Pro FM Radio

I've installed TV@nywhere Pro apps from CD (think they're actually for Vista) on Windows 7. Driver is the latest Win'7 I found on the MSI site and I installed that separately. When only listening to the FM Radio, a screen saver will not activate. I can understand no screen saver when watching TV, but when only listening to FM radio, the screen saver should work. Can anything be done about this? A final comment, I miss a separate FM Radio application - I don't want to go through the whole HyperMedia menu system just to listen to the radio...

I don't know if this program will even work in Vista or Windows 7, or even with your card, but might be worth a try, a nice little FM Radio tuner program, originally bundled with the now obsolete TV@nywhere Master:

anyone else having the word of the day/dictionary screen saver not pop up anymore after the upgrade?
Yes, precisely. The crash of "word of the day" cannot be related to the Lion upgrade. Some other issue must be at fault. And to clarify and be specific "Apple" did not say it was not supported but rather one person working in customer support said "word of the day" was not supported - and since some of us Lion users having the screen saver work and only just now failing, that one person at Apple seems to have made an error in guessing what the problem is. Why keep discussing this? Because "word of the day" is a useful screen saver in an educational setting and it is worth the effort to fix it and restore it as a screen saver option. Hoping there is a fix soon.

Slide Show Screen Saver Superimposed Images Flag or Ball -- Bug?

I have searched and found two other archived questions on this topic, but no real answers. Please help!
I have the screen saver set to do a slide show from the Pictures folder, where I have lots of family photos. This works fine, but about every 10th photo or so, it shows the picture, and the next image is the same photo, with a weird low-res ("jagged edges"), blown-up (full-screen), icon-like image in the middle, superimposed upon my image. It's usually circular, often has a national flag or comic scheme to it, sometimes has a face, and always has effects to make it look round like a ball, which it usually is in shape (though sometimes it's not circular). When I look, my images have not been altered recently and don't seem affected, so the problem seems to reside in the system, right?
I'm not a techie but I have used Mac since 1985 and remember reading several years back in one of the Mac mags about such a problem -- whether termed a trojan or whatever. I do have all my old Mac data and apps in a folder on my mini, so it's possible it could have been pulled over from my last Mac and a remnant of some prior vulnerability. But I've never seen this behavior before OSX, neither Norton nor ClamXav finds a problem, and I can't seem to find ref to that article by net searching or here. What causes this, and how can I solve it? It really bothers my mother-in-law to see pix of her grandkids with weird flags superimposed on them, and I'm wondering if this is some Mac problem with more serious consequences not yet discovered by Norton or ClamXav. Whenever the slide show runs from my pictures out of iphoto on my screen saver, other pictures appear occasionally on top of my pictures. They are usually other country flags or weird shapes with jagged edges. Any idea how to keep this from happening or where these other pictures are coming from? Thanks.
Mini Mac OS X (10.4.8)The problem is not with the screensaver but rather that the Pictures folder insists on having the iChat flags alias inside it. Since the screensaver recognizes aliases I have moved all my photos out of the "Pictures" folder and into another folder called "Pictures not screensaver". This is because the screensaver will show ALL pictures in the Pictures folder regardless of how embarassing they are. That leaves the Pictures folder for just aliases to pictures or folders of pictures. This allows me to control exactly what pictures are shown on the screensaver. It is an area of OSX that needs some improvement.
Regarding the superimposed images, that is normal. Those iChat icons are transparent, while JPGs are not transparent. Screensaver piles newer pictures on top of older pictures. If it piles transparent images such an GIF or PNG on top of previous pictures they may be transparent and cause an alarming effect.
I have imagined this feature could be used in some cool way but have never seen anyone do it. For example, nice JPG backgrounds with semi-transparent PNGs on top with zooming animals. I suspect Apple will introduce such a screensaver in 10.5. -

My iTunes Artwork screen saver is not working. After reboot, then selecting iTunes Artwork in System Preferences, just a black screen appears in the preview, as well as when pressing Test, and when allowing the screen saver to start on it's own. The error message in Console says...

The memory address location at the end of each line is different everytime I preview the screen saver.
I've tried...
deleting ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.* files
making sure each album has a cover in iTunes
running Get Album Artwork in iTunes
recreating symbolic link ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music -> ~/Public/iTunes Music/
... but doesn't help.
All other screen savers work... my usual is Flurry, and it works too, but gives invalid framebuffer operation under Console.
Nothing running/checked under Sharing.

Environment: Mac OS X (10.7.2), Macbook Pro (late 2008)So it turned out that the cause of the problem wasn't as complicated as I thought...
I had a few songs that were not added to the iTunes library, instead referenced from other locations on my hard drive.
Specifically, if you bring up the Get Info window of a song, under Summary > Where, it may show a different path than your usual iTunes Media folder location, set under Preferences.
E.g. Where: ~/Desktop/downloaded_song.mp3
I guess, this happens when you drag a song into your iTunes instead of adding it to the library, and apparently, causes problems with the Artwork Screen Saver.
Solution:
To correct it,
For those songs, go to File > Add to Library...
Then find and select the song file.
That's all I had to do to get the screen saver working... All your songs have to be added to your iTunes Library.
I think my brother was messing around with my playlist... I hope Apple nails a better way to lock-unlock/secure OS X soon (proximity sensor, biometric 3D face recognition, unique voice recognition, soul recognition, etc.).
That malloc error message still shows up; that must be an unrelated issue with the screen saver.
I hope this helps out all those suffering through the same issue with their iTunes Artwork Screen Saver. -
Hot Corners: Start Screen Saver not working
I have enabled two Hot Corners with the Start Screen Saver option, but when I mouse over to the corner, nothing happens. Console logs show nothing, so it is like it is not even being triggered. If I do a Screen Saver Preview inside System Preferences, it launches fine. If I launch it from the terminal, it also works fine ( sudo open -a /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSav erEngine.app). My other Hot Corners Desktop and Notification Center work fine. The only unique thing hardware wise is that I have an additional monitor attached to my iMac via Dual-Link DVI.
Any ideas before I submit it as a bug?

My screen saver has stop working, I have re-boot the machine, disconnect and reconnect the time machine drive.
I have run the repair permission utilities. I have made change to the various time and screen saver images. None of these had any impact on fixing this problem. I am running ML with the latest updates. I have been running ML for many months and never had this occur, It just started suddendly
Not sure what else I can do to resolve this issue.
Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Never expected this problem on my Nokia 701 after updating to nokia belle fp1. My phone restarts unexpectedly even though i m not using it and also while using some applications. Also my screen saver does not work whatever i do the screen saver just doesnt come i dont know whats the problem as i also tried to reinstall the belle fp1 on my phone through nokia suite and still the issue remained the same.
. the issue looks small but its very frustrating that the battery goes down because of no screen saver and every time reboot without any reason.
I request nokia to go through this message and look into this issue and release a bug fix for this issue.
Moderators notes: Inaccurate information removed.Don't call me crazy but...last night I activated a hot corner to put display to sleep, no screen saver, nothing, just off. This morning, a minute ago, I checked the display and it's fine again. No shadows, as if the "memory or imprint" of the images were cooled off and erased. The display is clear again!
Not crazy at all, it's what I would expect. LCD screens can experience a temporary image persistence, if an image remains static for a very long time, but it is not a permanent effect. Letting the screen rest can help eliminate the persistent image, and if that doesn't, you can get rid of it by displaying a white full-screen image for a while with the brightness turned down to low.

Screen saver not working with iDVD
I am having a concern with my iDVD program. When I tell the iDVD to burn a disk-image it looks like everything is working. Note it takes many hours on a 1.25 Ghz G4. For some reason the screen saver and the energy saver for the screen will not kick in. My screen stays at full brightness the whole time.
I can move my mouse to a "hot corner" and force the screen saver will come on but never the energy saver. It only happens when using iDVD. I tried resetting the PRAM and I also deleted the idvd.plist file and did the permisssions verify.
Is there some reason the iDVD software would not want the energy saver feature to kick in? Anyone else have this problem.
ScottI guess the way I should have phrased the question is "is it normal for the screen saver to not kick in". I don't know if I have a problem or that I am seeing normal behavior. On iLife06 the screen saver did kick in.
I understand the idea of freeing the computer of all non-essential tasks. My only concern is having the monitor on for the 15 hours it takes to burn the disk image. This is a downside of the iMac, you can't turn off the monitor and leave the rest of the system run.
My long term solution is to get new hardware. I would like to see the 15 hours be more like 1 or 2 at the worst case.

so i noticed this yesterday, when i lock my phone the screen does not go black. no matter what the screen saver option is on ( music player, big clock or even notying) phone gets locked but the screen is on. feel like a hard reset needs to happen soon

However, I am not sure if this will work for you, because I have SPB Mobile Shell, but it is worth a try!
1) Make sure you have the widget for the MUSIC PLAYER on one of your main operating page.
2) Turn OFF your phone regularly. (NO NEED to hard rest by hold over 8 secs)
3) Turn ON your phone.
4) Once the phone loaded up, immediate play any song through your music player before the phone auto-locks.
5) Lock your phone with your side-lock button; your screensaver should come back.
Both my g/f & I owns a Nokia N8, and we both experienced the screensaver failure problem. My N8 was easy to fix by many people's solution of just simply reset, and it automatically fixed the problem. But My g/f's N8 was stubborn, and wouldn't turn the screensaver back on by this simple reset method. Later I discovered the above method, and it worked every time! I think somehow the music player is triggering the screensaver and forces it to stay on.
Well, although we somehow surpass this issue, but Nokia still need to fix this problem. Nokia N8 is a great phone, it shouldn't have such a simple mistake in it. This makes the perfect phone imperfect!!! Anyway, please let me know if this method works for you guys, thanks. -

Photo streaming screen saver not working after ATV update
I was using a shared photo streaming album as a screen saver prior to the update. Now, with all options on, it only shows one generic "photo stream" option with zero photos in the file. I have a total of five photo stream ablbus that used to appear as choices.
Any ideas?Thanks to Apple Care, problem solved. I'm one of those people that have two user names and passwords with Apple. When Mobile Me closed, my ICloud username became the old Mobile Me username. I also have my ITunes username and password.
So, to load content from ITunes, I have to be logged in as that user, but to access my Photo Stream, I have to be logged in as my ICloud user. -
After looking at a slide show, screen will not return, remains grey
This happens only on firefox, not explorer. After watching a slideshow, I click on the "X" to return to Rogers email screen, screen goes grey, will not respond, I have to click on reload then reselect msg again
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
