HT5538 so my family has multiple iPHONES - however just 1 Apple ID - can i unassocate my Apple ID within iMESSAGE

So do not want everyone getting everyone elses iMESSAGE - so can i unassocate the AppleID within iMESSAGE - I know this will prevent iOS devices using an Apple ID to contact the device - however that is not an issue - major issue is kids keep getting each others messages.

You can get another free email (Gmail, hotmail, AOL, ...) and use that to create a new unique AppleID just for yourself.  Then, sign out of iMessage, sign back in with the new AppleID, and you will then have your own unique iMessage account.
You can use that new AppleID to create your own unique iCloud account as well, if you wish to.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you wish (or have primary email addresses for) and you can use a different one for any Apple service you wish to - so you can keep a shared AppleID for iTunes and App store family purchased content, and separate AppleID(s) for everything else.

If you use the same AppleID for iMessage and iCloud though, you will all be sharing the same message account and iCloud email account.  You can use a common AppleID for purchased content, but each create your own unique AppleID for iMessage and iCloud so you each have your own private accounts for those services.

    Hi ndmulderx,
If I understand correctly, your family has been sharing a single Apple ID and now you want to give everyone an individual Apple ID without losing any content. You can do this with Family Sharing. The article below provides details about the feature which will allow you to share purchases between family members, create shared photo albums and much more.

  • My Apple TV can control all the apple devices in my home including my other family members devices why?

My Apple TV can control all the apple devices in my home including my other family members devices why? I have home sharing on so my MacBook pro, iPad, and iPhone can be put on my tv. How do I only contol my devices?

Lots of questions but essentially you want to try three steps:
Reset the power on the device
    - issue continue?
Reset all settings from: Settings > General > Reset all settings > Reset All Settings
    - issue continue?
Restore the devices software: Settings > General > Restore > Retore
    - issue continue?
You likely have a hardware issue. Visit an Apple Retail Store

  • Just bought Apple TV. Our Hi Def TV only has S Video or RCA outlets. Can we use the Apple TV?

Just bought Apple TV. Our high def tv only has S Video or RCA connectors. Can we use the Apple TV? Thanks

Apple TV only supports HDMI. It doesn't sound like it is an HDTV, even if you use an adapter there is no guarantee it would work and even then you would not be able to watch HDCP content (i.e. iTunes, Netflix etc).
If the TV is not widescreen and/or doesn't support at least 720P you will also have issues around that.

  • Our family has multiple apple ids and we are setting up a new apple tv. Does it matter which apple id we use if we have home sharing enabled?

I have an apple id from my mobile me account; I also have the apple id from my itunes account (with which I purchase content for my powerbook); and my husband has an apple id for itunes which he purchases content for his itunes library on his PC.
Does it matter which apple id we use to set up our new apple tv?
what issues are caused by my multiple apple ids?

You cannot merge apple ids, but you can sign out of the apple id and sign in under the other one either on your phone or your mac. On your phone, go to settings, itunes and appstore, tap your apple id, tap sign out, then go back to home screen, then back into itunes an appstore and sign in with the apple id you want to use.

  • I have an iPad mini iphone 5 and have just bought an Apple TV can I get the Apple TV to connect to the Bluetooth on my sofa have been trying with no success my phone and iPad connect fine please help.

Can't get my Apple TV to connect to the Bluetooth on my sofa but it connects fine with iPhone iPad mini etc

Bluetooth in the AppleTV is for connecting to Bluetooth keyboards, and also for Airplay device discovery only.
Unless your sofa supports Airplay (unlikely) or has a bluetooth keyboard, your AppleTV won't be able to connect to it.

  • Our family has multiple products from IPods, IPads, IMac, and Apple TV. However, we made a mistake when registering them so that we seem to have at least two different ITunes accounts. How do I combine them or reset the accounts to make them one?

Over the years we have purchased multiple products from IPods, IPads, to IMacs. Unfortunately, along the way, we accidentally created more than one ITunes accounts so that we can only access some songs etc on certain devices and not on others. How do we reset our devices to create one account or transfer our music to one account?

You don't. You cannot combine iTunes accounts at this time. Pick the one that you want to use and stick to that one account for all the purchases.

  • My family has multiple iOS devices, all with 1 Apple ID. With iCloud coming, should I create separate Apple IDs for each member of my family?

    Hello,
Between my family, we have 2 iPhones, multiple computers, iPads, and an Apple TV ALL tied in to the same Apple ID (the one I created when I got my first device). With iCloud coming, I wanted to know if I need to create separate Apple IDs for each family member (for emails, contacts, calendars, etc.). For instance, I would like to share certain contacts and a calendar with only my wife, all media between all family members, and have home sharing so that I can play/stream content on my Apple TV. Will there be a way to have multiple and distinct me.com accounts and yet share the same Apple ID?
Apologies for being verbose — just wanted to give ample info/background.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

I happened to stop at the Apple store yesterday for a separate issue and had a discussion about iCloud. Seems like this is how iCloud works (also, there's another thread on this forum that explains it well).
Each member of the family can have their own iCloud ID, which will be used for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Apps, Bookmarks, Media, Photos, etc. and having this content synced automatically with a Mac (computer). The iCloud IDs work in tandem with the associated Apple ID — so while you cannot have multiple Apple IDs, you can certainly have multiple iCloud IDs tagged with a certain Apple ID.
While all this makes sense from the iOS device standpoint, I'm unclear on how things will sync with a Mac computer, especially if the family uses a single iMac with multiple login IDs for various members. For instance, I currently have an iMac and iTunes content resides in my Public folder, which my wife can still access when she logs in with her login ID. I'm guessing that I'll be able to set up her iCloud ID using her login, set up my iCloud ID using my login, while both our iMac logins will retain the same Apple ID. This would take care of syncing Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.
Another (not sure if unique) problem I face is our Address Book — right now, we have one GIANT address book with different groups set up. Certain groups sync to her iPhone, while others to mine. Some contacts are common between both of us. I'm hoping that if she/I updates a common contact, then the change will be reflected in both our groups of contacts. I hope this makes sense — for instance, I update a contact named Joe, and he's on my group of contacts in my iPhone. Hope iCloud updates the master contact card for Joe on the iMac, which would then automatically trigger the update on my wife's group of contacts—that Joe also belongs to— leading to an update on her iOS device as well.
    Apologies for the lengthy response..

  • Our family has two iphones how can my mac tell them a part?

yes my wife has had her iphone since Christmas I just received my iphone yesterday. Our Mac book pro synced my phone to all of her settings with her apps.  Is this a big deal or am i not understanding the technology of the iphone

how can my mac tell the apart?
by their serial number, or imei number or their udid number.
Our Mac book pro synced my phone to all of her settings with her apps.
That's because you set it up and told iTunes to use a backup from your wife's phone intead of setting it up as a new phone.

  • My family has multiple itunes accounts, and would like to merge them into a single cloud account.  How do I do this?

We are trying to combine music into a shared library so we can eliminate all of the duplicate purchases.  Is this possible?

That's not exactly correct. It is possible to sign in to one account for media sharing and another account for iCloud. When you initially set up the device, it may automatically sign you into one account for everything, but you can go to preferences and change this.
Each family member should have their own iCloud account for mail, contacts, calendars, photostream, etc, but you all sign into the same account for iTunes.
Unfortunately there is no way to consolodate the media you have already purchased.

  • HT1977 my husband has an iPhone and an itunes account. can he purchase an app through his itunes account then connect his iphone to my laptop to then get it from there?

My spouse and i both have iphones. I also have a mac and we both have seperate itunes accounts. My spouse wants to purchase an app on my laptop and then sync it to his phone. How do we do this? Also can the app that he purchase also be put onto my phone? How do we do that?

While it is a good idea to do iOS updates on the devices, if it is working alright, you can wait. It sounds as if there is an issue with the Internet connection on the computer you are trying to do the update from. It can time out, 3rd party security software on the computer can interfere with the update. There are any number of reasons. Depending on what type of computer you are using, you can check to make sure iTunes is up to date and then try again. If using security/anti-virus software, you can temporarily disable that and attempt the update again.
