HTML 5 on iPad 2 Safari

We can't watch some video clips on our iPad 2. We get the message "This player not enabled for HTML5." How can we configure Safari to work with these clips?

The statement you are seeing is kind of backwards.  iPad 2 is configured for HTML 5.  The video you are trying to watch is Flash, which will not work on iPad.  To better understand this, use the search bar and type flash in the search bar and you will find thousands of posts on this.
I don't know what site you are trying to watch, but you may find that the site has an App in the App Store, which will permit you to watch the video you are trying to see.

  • IPad 2 Safari javascript window.open bug

    I am building a web app that uses the PicUp app to upload photos.
    Part of how it works requires me to open a new tab with javascript, which fires some script to open a new url in an iframe on the previous page.
    I have named the 'windows' accordingly, and it works properly on the iPad 1 (Safari).
    But in iPad 2, the window.open function does not seem to take in a target window parameter, resulting in broken UI. The new tab opens, but the script to open a new URL in the other page's iframe does not work.
    My image still uploads, but the user would be confused, as there is no confirmation screen.
    Help!
    PS: I would also like to comment that it is fairly convoluted to have to download a 3rd party app just to handle http uploads, something every other browser can do natively. What is the reasoning behind not allowing iOS Safari to upload like normal?
    Thanks
    John

    Was able to produce a small test case.
    To demonstrate this problem, there are three pages.  You will need to load window1.html.  That page has buttons to load the other windows.  Make sure all files are in the same directory.
    window1.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.name='win1';
    var si = setInterval('check()', 1000);
    function check()
        var d = new Date();
        var s = d.toString() + ' hash: ' + window.location.hash + "\n";
        var log = document.getElementById('log');
        log.value += s;
        log.scrollTop = log.scrollHeight
    </script>
    <form name='myform'>
    <input type=button name='cmd' value='Start second window (no close)' onclick="window.open('window2.html', 'win2')">
    <input type=button name='cmd' value='Start third window (with close)' onclick="window.open('window3.html', 'win2')">
    <br />
    <textarea cols=80 rows=10 id='log'></textarea>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    window2.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.open('window1.html#from2','win1');
    </script>
    <p>This is window2.html</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    window3.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.open('window1.html#from3','win1');
    window.close();
    </script>
    <p>This is window3.html</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    Test scenario:
    If you run window1.html, you will see it is updating the text field with the time and displaying the current hash.  If you press the button 'Start second window (no close)', you will see another tab open up and stay there and the window1 text field will display the hash 'from2'.
    You can close the window2 tab if you want now (don't think it matters).
    If you then press the button 'Start third window (with close), the window1 tab is gone and window3 is still up there.  The title bar says it is window3 but it is not even displaying 'This is window3.html'  If I do a view source (using a javascript bookmark), it does show the window3 script but the <p> and text is not there.  Probably died in the script before parsing was finished.  This is the first problem.
    Now load the window1.html again in the browser (type on URL line).  If you press the 'Start second window (no close)", the one that worked before, and click on the window1 tab to view it and display the updating text box, you will see it did not see the hash change.  This looks like that physical tab was corrupted in Safari from the window 3 test.  I just found if you open a new tab, the new tab will be ok to run the second window (no close test).  At least until you run window3 (with the close).

  • IPad loses Safari connection intermittently. iPhone is fine.  PC has good connection to Internet.  Software is up to date.  Any suggestions?

    IPad loses Safari intermittently.  IPhone is ok.  MS PC connection to Internet is fine. Any suggestions?

    Try # 5>
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • HT4199 What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and the bars come up but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

    What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and it show I'm on my wifi, but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says, Safari cannot open this page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

    When you click on the WiFi network name, have you also provided the password for accessing the network?  You should get a dialogue box asking you for the security information the first time you connect.
    If you are not able to connect, you might want to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.
    Then go back to Settings > WiFi and select your network name again and make sure the security information is now entered correctly.
    If you still cannot connect, power down the router, wait a few minutes, power up the router, with the iPad powered down the whole time, and after the router has had several minutes to stabilize power up the iPad.  See if it now connects correctly.

    Since the os7 update on my iPad, my safari is not right, it only opens one page at a time, crashes when trying to open more, it has no back button. Help

    Well, I rebuilt the entire workbook... that was a few months ago and so far, the problem hasn't resurfaced. It really wasn't fun to do, but whatever glitch there was in the file, I eliminated it.
    I think I should mention that I am using Office v.X, NOT Office 2004. I got a new Intel iMac this week and yesterday when I opened up my files, it opened up the test drive (a JOKE of a program if you ask me) Anyway, some of the very minor issues I had with Office v.X were solved in the 2004 version. (When opening up large multi worksheet files without Excel being already opened, the tabs have white text) Anyway, I am still going to wait for the universal version to come out, but it seems that the newer versions may have fewer glitches (as is to be expected)
    At any rate, best of luck to you!

    IPad 1 Safari crashes frequently. I went to many Apple stores in different countries and each Apple staff member had their own different opinions with no help. I had upgraded my iOS to 5.1.1 and the Safari crashing started about one year after the upgrade and some Apple staff blame this- but this started one year later after the iOS upgrade. Recently at the Apple Store in Vancouver an Apple staff reset my computer (erased everything and sent to iCloud to reset the iPad) and I hoped this would fix the problem. IPad Safari still crashes. Short of booking an appointment for taking it for repair to Apple technicians which will cost me money can anyone help me to fix this Safari crashing.

    Hi,
    You might have a 3rd party plugin that isn't compatible with Safari 4.0.4. Go here for help...
    Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations
    If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and restarting with just your keyboard and mouse connected.
    From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
    from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
    Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
    Also, you could download and install the 10.5.8 combo update (PowerPC) available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
    It contains fixes that might help. Then repair disk permissions.
    Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Is there a way to play streaming wmv on iPad through safari?

    Is there a way to play streaming wmv on iPad through safari?

    No. WMV is a proprietary Microsoft video container and there is no native support for it in iOS.
    There are third-party apps on the AppStore that claim to be able to do this, but not through Safari.

    iPad 1 Safari Crashes Constantly and getting worse day by day.  Has Apple come up with a solution?  Now I am hearing its also happening on the newer models.  My company is about to buy a lot of tablets and I will not recommend Apple anything until they fix the problem.  Granted 30 or 40 iPads is not a huge impact but i promise once the outside world hears about this BS things will change.  There are plenty of other tablets out there that do not have this problem.  At the very least we should have the option of rolling back to a stable IOS...

    I have already tried all the things mentioned above as well as other things such as other browsers etc.  Its is obviously a problem with the hardware.  I also borrowed a brand new 4th gen iPad and it does the same thing.  Even after upgrading it to 6.01.  An occasional crash is one thing and can easily be waved off but this is clearly systemic and the problem appears to be related to graphical images and videos.  Both iPads are the 64gb versions, the only difference other than model is the iPad 1 has ATT cellular.  The new version is clean i.e no other APPs loaded other than what came with it.  I have 7 more coming but im seriously considering sending them back in favor of an Android tablet or the MS Surface.

  • On my iPad Air Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow.

    On my iPad Air , Safari crashes and quits when I view a slideshow on an internet site. Sometimes it doesn't crash but the slideshow is freezes. Any idea why?

    Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

    hi:
    i tried the basic "hello world" thing in html in textedit, and the same thing happened: it showed the html but not the webpage. i also dragged the .html file over to the safari icon in the dock with the same results.
    i don't have a good answer as to why html written in textedit is doing this. maybe its the way textedit handles the underlying stuff, like ms word.
    or it could be the way safari and ie parse file written in textedit.
    go to http://www.barebones.com/ and download textwrangler. it's free, and html coded in textwrangler acts right in safari.

  • Website login fails on iPad 2 Safari after iOS6 Update

    Upgraded to iOS6 9/19/2012.
    I just spent half an hour troubleshooting why a site I developed for a client fails its login. Passwords are salted and hashed in Javascript, POSTed to an AJAX PHP page to compare password against stored salted password in database, then user is redirected to where they need to go. This site has always worked on the iPad, which is one of the site's most favored features.
    Logging into the site no longer works. I've tested this issue on my PC with no problem using Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera. I've also tested on my iPad 2 using its Chrome and Mercury browsers with no problem.
    The problem only occurs on iPad's Safari browser, and just started happening today. The only difference between today and yesterday is the iOS6 upgrade. Therefore, it stands to reason that iOS6 Safari is the problem.
    The PHP running in the background that actually compares the user input to the DB credentials no longer matches the hash of the salt/password hash with the nonce. This command in iOS6 Safari gives completely different results than any other browser:
    $rehash = hash("sha512", hash("sha512", $salt . $password) . $nonce);
    I have absolutely NO idea why or how this command is affected by a browser. I'm telling you, this only not works on the iPad 2 iOS6 running Safari. I've tried clearing History, cookies and the like, and I get the same thing every time.
    I'd like to downgrade back to a previous version of iOS6. It's fine to have my iPhone in iOS6, but I use my iPad for development, and I need to revert back.
    Ideas? Thoughts?

    You may want to check this out.  We were seeing login issues prior to finding this.

    3G active on iPad but safari not working.  It says "safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". Had the iPad for ages &amp; just suddenly stopped working. It has been almost a week now, tried a few things but nothing is working.

    Try A and B
    (A) Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
    (B) Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
    Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.
