HTML from XSLT template truncated in BIP 10.1.3.4, as in 10.1.3.3.2

Just upgraded BI Publisher from version 10.1.3.3.2 to 10.1.3.4.0 because I have some huge report designs due and they're not working because of bugs in BI Publisher. I'm still having the same major problems, which are:
1) It still times out when producing moderately large Excel Analyzer files. Of course it waits 20 minutes before creating a completely useless file.
2) When producing HTML output from an XSLT template, it truncates the output when it's more than one or two dozen pages. No error issued or anything. It just presents the bad output as if it's totally acceptable to make 'most' of the report. I mean, 80% is a B, right?
I've been working with BI Publisher for two years and all the company users still hate it, and so does this developer. When are you going to stop robbing your customers by selling them crap?
Sincerely,
Multiverse.

YES! Yes, yes yes! You are the man! It worked in my stand-alone BI Publisher with your corrections also. I'm ecstatic.
To review your changes, here's the diff output between my XSL file and yours:
< <xsl:transform version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" >
<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format"
xmlns:ora="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/"
xmlns:xdofo="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/fo/extensions"
xmlns:xdoxslt="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/oracle.apps.xdo.template.rtf.XSLTFunctions"
xmlns:xdoxliff="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.1"
xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns:foo="http://www.oracle.com/xml/2.0">
I omitted the other edit, which was to remove the call to the upper-case() function, which is defined in detail on W3.org here:
http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-operators/#func-upper-case
Why does BIP not suppor this function? (Minor point.)
The more important point is that you included references to all these other namespaces: fo, ora, xdofo, xdoxslt, xdoxliff, xlink.
So you've sent me a beautifully prepared fish entree, but now I would like to learn how to fish.
Where can I found out exactly what all these namespaces offer me? What interesting functions can I use?
Also, is there any way to see in BI Pubisher when I've used an XSLT element incorrectly? As I've said, there was no way for me to tell where my template was failing because oraxsl processed the data correctly, but BI Publisher would not, and there was no error message.

  • Why is the formatting missing from my html page created from a template?

    Hi All!
    Hope you can help me.
    I've created a new template in dreamweaver - all good. When I preview the template page in a browser everything looks perfect.
    But when I create a new html page from that template, even though the page looks perfect in design view, all the formatting is missing when I preview it in a browser.
    The site settings were relative to the site root and I've changed that to be relative to the document (not sure if that should make a difference). Either way, it hasn't changed anything.
    Any ideas?

    The site settings were relative to the site root
    If you have not enabled "Preview using temporary files" in your PREFERENCES then site root relative links will fail on preview. Why? Because site root relative links *always* begin with "/", and when the browser sees that, it (since it knows nothing about Dreamweaver sites) correctly looks for the path starting from the root of your hard drive, not the root of the DW site. When you enable preview using temp files, before handing the file to the browser, DW obligingly converts all root relative links to document relative links (which *will* work on preview) but to do that it must create a temporary file (there are other things that happen as well, like external files being embedded in the code for the preview, but that is not relevant to this discussion). The reason a temp file is created is so that these changes don't affect your saved file.
    So, if you want to use site root relative links, and do previews of your pages, you must enable the temporary files in preview. There is really no downside to doing this except that you may occasionally see a curious file named xzys139(.html in your local file list - this is a temporary file that was handed to the browser for preview, and for whatever reason was not deleted. In fact, this can save your bacon sometimes because it gives you a 'backup' of that page to which you can revert in the event of something catastrophic.
    In the larger picture, there is no benefit to using site root relative links UNLESS you are also using server-side includes. It will make your life a bit simpler if you do not use them.
    Finally, having made those links in your template file with the site root relative option enabled, changing that option to document relative will only affect NEW links, not existing ones. This is why Ken asked to see the link in your template - it's because he knows that even though you have made the option change, that old link will not be affected and will therefore fail on preview (assuming you have not enabled the temp file thing).

  • Generating TEXT output from RTF template/reports

    Hi ,
    We have been working with XML Publisher for a long time now.. and we have come across some requirements such as
    1. Page break in TXT report output
    2. Page Headers after every 'X' lines in TEXT output.
    This was easily achieved with RTF template and PDF/HTML/RTF output, but not with TEXT output in eTEXT template.
    So we started looking into two approaches
    1. Generate TXT from PDF/RTF/HTML output(generated from RTF template), though it will addon to the time, but we are looking for this approach. We are looking for some JAVA api's which can help us to extract text from PDF/HTML/RTF while preserving the format.
    2. Pass the TXT generated by eTEXT template to our custom util , which will split the report in diff. pages.This will get complex as we recieve more and more reports.
    We have also tried hacking the RTF parser used in XML P so as to get a TXT output or using XSL-FO objects in eTEXT parser, but we could not get anything of our help.
    Does anyone have any pointers in this.
    regards
    Gaurav

    You can burst with eText and I have done it
    successfully.
    I don't believe pagebreaks are an option in eText and
    I don't think it makes sense either since your
    generating a flat-file and not a customer or internal
    facing document. Does that make sense?
    Also, if you would like you can use the
    BIPublisherIDE, this code can be converted pretty
    easily to handle jcp. There is a an oa framework
    version I have developed but I haven't posted on my
    blog yet. I plan on adding a bolt on for java
    concurrent programs soon. it's really pretty simple
    just haven't had the time.

    http://bipublisher.blogspot.com
    Thanks Ike for your reply.
    I agree with your points on TXT files, but in our case,the reports are generated in TXT format for the customer so we are looking for the above mentioned features.
    I have gone through BIP IDE and its a wonderful small utility which eases the task of BIP development.
    As I mentioned in my original post that we are currently processing the generated TXT report using a custom util. in JAVA to get the desired output in TXT again.
    I assume thats not what a JCP would do,so I am looking to explore that too.
    As I understand the process for report generation is
    1. Generate XSL from eTEXT template.
    2. Get the XML data from DB using XDO
    3. Apply XSL on XML to get the required template.
    If we are looking to achieve some customizations then we need to have the XSL generated with those customizations.
    In this case, where do we plug in the JCP to alter XSL or am I missing something.

  • Generating a report from RTF template using WSDL from ADF

    Hi,
    I am a newbie to ADF-BIP integration.
    I am using the wsdl http://<<ip>>:<<port>>/xmlpserver/services/PublicReportService?WSDL for generating a report from RTF Template in ADF.
    We are using Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher Release 11g (11.1.1) and JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.5.0).
    I have a couple of merge variables in my RTF template and I am passing these variable using Report Request parameters.
    below is code I added for creating the report request.
    First I created publicReportService using webservice proxy.
        public static ReportRequest getReportRequestFromBIPWithTemplate(String reportFolderOnBIP,
                                                            String reportName,
                                                            String outputFileFormat,
                                                            String template,
                                                            HashMap params) {
          String reportAbsolutePath = reportFolderOnBIP + "/" + reportName + ".xdo";
          ReportRequest repRequest = new ReportRequest();
          System.out.println("report path:  " + reportAbsolutePath);
          repRequest.setReportAbsolutePath(reportAbsolutePath);
          repRequest.setAttributeTemplate(template);
          repRequest.setAttributeFormat(outputFileFormat);
          repRequest.setAttributeLocale("en-US");
          repRequest.setSizeOfDataChunkDownload(-1);
          System.out.println(params.size());
          ParamNameValue[] paramNameValue = new ParamNameValue[params.size()];
          ArrayOfParamNameValue arrayOfparamNameValue = new ArrayOfParamNameValue();
          Set set = params.entrySet();
          Iterator iter = set.iterator();
          int i = 0;
          while (iter.hasNext()) {
            Map.Entry me = (Map.Entry)iter.next();
            System.out.println(i + "--->>>" + me.getKey() + " : " + me.getValue());
            paramNameValue[i] = new ParamNameValue();
            paramNameValue.setMultiValuesAllowed(false);
    ArrayOfString values = new ArrayOfString();
    if (me.getValue() == null) {
    values.getItem().add("");
    } else {
    values.getItem().add((me.getValue()).toString());
    paramNameValue[i].setValues(values);
    paramNameValue[i].setName((me.getKey()).toString());
    arrayOfparamNameValue.getItem().add(paramNameValue[i]);
    i++;
    repRequest.setParameterNameValues(arrayOfparamNameValue);
    return repRequest;
    I generated report response bytes using below code
    {code:java}
    repRes = publicReportService.runReport(repReq,userID,password);
    reportStream = repRes.getReportBytes();I could see the generated PDF but the supplied variables are NOT reflected in place of merge variables.
    Ex: In template
    Welcome, <<merge variable, userName>>
    {code}
    Generated PDF should have
    {code:java}
    Welcome, Hello World
    {code}
    Instead of the above I am getting
    {code:java}
    Welcome,
    {code}
    I am looking for a suggestion, Please help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Satya

  • Meta Tag Placement in pages created from a template

    I am updating a site and want to make sure that I place my meta tags correctly in individual pages created from a template. Can you tell me if my placement is correct?
    Below is code I added to my template:

    As usually, Begin and end editable sections are grayed out, and the meta tag names are blue according to my scheme so I think I am doing it correctly, however, I want to be sure before submitting it to google incorrectly. Can you tell me if I am correct?
    Thank you

    for clarification, are you saying that I could have put them on the line after:
    <title>Long Island, NY, 11550 Music Dance  Art &amp; Drama Lessons</title>
    Yep.
    Second, adding these meta tags actually did help the ranking of this company. They were not listed before I did this on their old site. They were on page 1 of their category hours after I did this for them.
    I think it's just coincidence.  However, for sure it wasn't the keywords that did that, since those are just ignored (the meta keywords contents, not the meta description contents).
    what are the search engines looking for? I want to make sure to design with those things in mind.
    They are looking for semantic content on the page.  That means the contents of tags like <title>, <h1>, <h2>, <h3>.  That also means (derived) keywords contained in content 'above the fold', and in filenames, in links, in title and alt attributes.  In other words, search engines want to rank your pages based on *real* meaning of the contents of the page, not on some arbitrary listing of keywords that you place in a meta keyword tag.
    Search engines also pay lots of attention to INCOMING links from other well ranked sites....

  • Files made from one template don't all render the same

    I have made a template using a table layout, and created all the site pages from the template.   When viewed in a browser, some (not all) of the pages jump slightly to the side.  Compare these 2 pages, or click through the navbar menu and you will see what I mean.

    Can anyone tell me why this would be, and how to fix it?
    Many thanks

    PS.  I don't need another lecture on the benefits of CSS layouts, but thanks anyway. I am a web dinosaur.

    I just made 3 test pages from the template, which all rendered exactly until I added content.  The pages with a lot of content are the 'jumpers'.  The width of the table seems to remain at 900px in all of them - at least the banner still completely fills the top row, with no white space showing.

  • How to insert a widget in a editable region from a template

    Hi there,
    ok so basically I am trying to create a HTML page from a template i have already designed.
    when I try to insert a widget (Lightbox Gallery) in the editable region I get the following error.
    "the widget requires code that must be inserted into the head of the document. insertion cannot happen because this document is read only"
    I saw a previous thread (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/901299) that had the same problem with a solution but cant seem to make sense of it.
    Not exactly sure where and what to paste in the header of the HTML page.
    Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Murray,
    ha funny you would say that is the exact answer you would give me seeing you posted it
    I understand the logic behind it though not sure what i need to copy and where.
    Basically i craeted a "dummy page" and inserted the widget-no problem there.
    next step- what code do i copy from the dummy page and where do i paste it? in the template or HTML page.

    Thanks All,

    ERROR: The first argument to the non-static Java function 'getRev' is not a valid object reference.Because it results in this error rather than anything else, you have to verify (apart from typos) the actual files finally deployed to run that your method getRev is declared "static", and that the argument $rev is setup with select="'02'" and not select="02". (What you posted looks fine, just make sure it remains the same in those essential aspect.)

  • Can't add spry widget to page created from dreamweaver template

    Please help! I have created a template in Dreamweaver and
    from that template I have created an html page. I want to add
    different tabbed and/or accordion spry widgets to multiple pages
    however I keep getting an error when I try to add a widget to an
    editable region. I can add the widgets to the dwt file, but I do
    not want the same widget on all pages created from that template.
    Please advise!
    Thanks
    cycleguy

    If that's all that's on the child page you are in trouble.
    Anyhow, it appears to me that the template has not been
    properly created
    since I do not also see an editable region around the
    <title> tag in your
    code. Please read my previous post and follow the
    instructions.

  • Template from another template?

    I am building a website and I want to use template which will include navigation bar. When I change navigation bar in template, will it automatically change navigation bar throughout my site?
    Also, can I create templates from original template and will that template (and all pages linked to that template) be updated when I make changes to original template.
    I hope that this makes sense to you. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Yes, that's the main purpose of using templates  :-)
    You create areas in the template that will be the same across all the pages created from this template .
    You create the navbar in  the template and if you ever need to make any changes to the navbar,save the dwt file, all child pages created from this template will be updated with the changes.  You then need to upload all the changed pages to your server.
    Also, can I create templates from original template and will that template (and all pages linked to that template) be updated when I make changes to original template.
    I think you may be asking about 'nested templates'
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7aa0a .html
    However, it is generally recommended that they not be used.
    You could look at a combination of using templates and or serverside includes (SSI).
    With templates, you have to upload every page that was changed when you make changes to the template file, but with serverside includes you only need to upload the one file and all pages that have the SSI will update.

  • How can I edit the head section of a page made from a template?

    Humm,  I made a page from a template but now I cannot modify the <head> section...  I will need to add some HTML to the head section that will be different for at least this one specific page...

    Be aware that you CANNOT use the DW UI to add an editable region to the head. A properly made DW template always contains two editable regions in the head of the template: "doctitle" and "head".  If you do not have those, then as Nancy says, you will need to add them.
    To add an editable region to the head of your template page, just copy this and paste it in to some legal place in the head of the page (like immediately above </head>).
    <!--TemplateBeginEditable name="whatever"-->
    <!--TemplateEndEditable-->
    Change the name as needed.

  • Exporting to HTML from InDesign CS4

    I what may be an odd issue.  I am working with InDesign to create client alerts for my firm.  We send these out via email.  Currently we are using a 3rd party application called ExactTarget for the mass-email, then creating the INDD file and exporting to PDF to post to the web as an attachment.  We are converting to using the email campaign too in our new contact database, ContactEase.  This requires creating the email body in HTML.  It would save me a lot of work if we could export the INDD file to a PDF to post to the web AND to an HTML that can be used to send the email.
    Unfortunately, when I use the "Export to Dreamweaver" function in INDD to create the HTML file, I get a very simplistic page that does not reflect my original layout.  I have also tried selecting SWF as the type under "Export."  In this instance, I get the file formatted well, but I can only see the first page.  Has anyone else had experience exporting to HTML from INDD and retaining the formatting?  Is there a step I am forgetting?  Or perhaps an easier way to go about this?  Id' really rather not have to create the page template in HTML and have to continue to basically creating the document twice (once for email and once for web).
    Any direction/assistance is appreciated!  Thank you in advance.

    To get HTML exporting to work you have to style all the text and then recreate matching CSS styles in your HTML editor. When you export, the Advanced tab (CS3) lets you decide whether to create empty CSS declarations or link to an external CSS doc.
    I use one paragraph style for all the text which exports as something like p.mytext, then use character styles for everything else, which get exported as something like span.myhead. The exported XHTML style section might look like this when you choose empty declarations:
    p.mytext {}
    span.bold {}
    span.myhead {}
    span.italic {}
    span.link {}
    span.smallcaps {}
    span.subhead {}
    Where you need to fill in the properties between the brackets like this:
    p. mytext {
    font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    span.bold {
    font-weight: bold;
    span.myhead {
    font-size: 20px;
    font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    color: #C06000;
    span.italic {
    font-style: italic;
    span.smallcaps {
    letter-spacing: 3px;
    font-size: 75%;
    word-spacing: -2px;
    color: #444444;
    span.link {
    text-decoration: none;
    color: #CC9900;
    span.subhead {
    font-size: 14px;
    font-family: Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    color: #666666;
    font-weight: bold;
    letter-spacing: 0.75px;
    You have to have a reasonable grip on CSS in order to get it all to work.

  • Updating child pages from a template in CS4

    I built a site that uses one template.  Everything was going along fine I'd make a change to the template and I was able to update all the child pages.  I made changes to the template yesterday and nothing updates.  I try using the update the site... I choose the files that use  and the one template I have and none of the pages update.  I've tries re-saving the template file as a template and still nothing updates.
    It has never immediately done an automatic update to the pages.  It always seems to be a while before the update these pages pallette comes up.  And again sometimes it will update all the pages, but most of the time not.
    I've done a search of the discussions to see if I could find a solution, before I posted this.  The ones I found do not have a solution that works for me.
    So does anyone know what to do?
    On a related issue... I usually create a page save the page to the site folder and then apply the template.  I have tried to create the page from the template, but the graphic in the background of the container div doesn't show up.  I usually have to then apply the template to the newly created page to get that to show up.  So what's up with this?
    Thank you!
    Nina

    Try saving the page to the site after creating it, even though the graphic doesn't show up.  It should appear when you save it.
    Just for drill, here is my "Seven Common Mistakes" post - do any of these cover your situation?
    Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
    1.  Rename the Templates folder
    2.  Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
    3.  Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4.  Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
    5.  Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
    6.  Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
    7.  Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done).  If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
    The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them.  Have you done any of those?
