HTML - XML - Framemaker

I've been searching around on the web for a couple of hours and haven't found anything useful, so I hoping someone on this forum can help point me in the right direction.
As part of our company, we use framemaker extensively for documenatation. However, for our automated measurement flow we typically generate HTML directly.
To enable us to also import these measurements into Framemaker, I would like to lever XML. What I'm looking for, therefore, is a way of generating XML such that
it can be easily (without framemaker) converted to HTML,
if can be easily imported into a structured framemaker document
Thanks for any feedback!
Anthony

Anthony,
The documentation for structured applications is included with FrameMaker, or you can get it online.
Yes, you can export an FM document as XML. Just select File > Save As and select XML. Frame will ask you for an application, but you can select none.
You can also export a DTD from your EDD. This is probably the best place to see what the full structure is, because the DTD defines the allowed structure.
Because the structure allowed by your EDD is very likely unique to your company (element names and attributes, etc), it is probably a waste of time creating a XSLT stylesheet (it is not a script) to transform your Frame structure to an XML structure that can be easily transformed to HTML by an existing stylesheet. Because you have to create an XSLT stylesheet anyway, you might as well create one that goes directly the HTML. This assumes that you have no need for the intermediate XML.
On the other hand, if you need or want the intermediate XML, then the XSLT stylesheet you create can be applied by the browser when it opens your XML file. The browser does the conversion to HTML internally using your XSLT. Writing an XSLT stylesheet to convert your structure to HTML should not be too difficult, because the standard HTML elements are few in number. So, it will likely involve simple transforms, such as a paragraph element into a P element, a numbered list into OL elements, etc. There are many good books about XSLT. I believe there is even one entitled "XSLT for Dummies"...no offfense.
The work is straightforward but will take some time...not an exorbitant amount of time.

      <LoadingDate>20110422</LoadingDate>
      <DocumentDate>20110422</DocumentDate>
      <SDDocumentCategory>G</SDDocumentCategory>
    so on.......
    Now, i want to change the Loading date in this test data, so, i tried after Loading file in Test Service Provider screen of my_abap_proxy of SE80, but i could not make change ANY data in this test data, pls. let me know how to change the data?
    Thank you

    Hello ABAP_SAP_ABAP ,
                                          Youneed to select the option "generate template data " and then on the displaying template there you will see the option for editing in the top left corner toolbar.
    Then after editing you can do a XMl syntax check and test your proxy.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • HTML & XML Code Stripped when loaded to web site

    Hi,
    I just loaded some page changes to my web site and the HTML & XML code was stripped when exported to my web site. I checked the site page code on the web site and it's absent.
    Has anybody had this happen and/or can anybody help me fix this problem.
    Thanks
    Malcolm

    Thank you for the response,
    This is the link to the page that didn't work. I left it the way was after I downloaded it to the web site is:   http://www.susystastebuds.com/Wedding/Wedding.html
    I have had this web site running under Dreamweaver for over a year without a problem and It has only just started to do this.
    Yahoo hosts my site and I do use the PUT action to post to the web.
    I have some Flash items on all my pages and some of them have stopped working properly, which I think means that some of the Flash code is not there either.
    I can go to Yahoo web page manger and upload each file and they page will work, but that is a very lengthy process.
    Thank you for any more help you can provide.

  • HTML-- XML mapping.

    Hi,experts
    scenerio:
    HTTP client<==>XI<==>non SAP system
    This is a synchronous scenerio.the backend system receives HTTP request and returns response document with a form of HTML.So, in XI response mapping ,Do i need to transform the content type HTML into XML?and how should i do this?i have no experience about this,as far as i know,transforming XML into HTML needs a java mapping.what about HTML->XML?
    please help .thanks.
    Brand.

    Hi
    It depends on what you want to do with the HTML.
    But you can achieve the same using XSLT.
    Here is a sample HTML very basic one...
    <HTML>
    <BODY>
    <P align="center">
    ABCD
    </P>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    Here is the XSLT which copies the XSLT as it is
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <xsl:template match="*">
      <xsl:copy-of select="@*"/>
      <xsl:apply-templates/>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>

  • Html/Xml/Css on textfields Tutorials

    hI,
    I am searching for descriptions and tutorials on CSS and
    HTML/XML in
    Flash. What is possible and what is not.
    I was trying a bit to add images, colors and other styles.
    Did work but
    not always clean (i.e. text size, hover style ..). Next thing
    I am
    looking for is how to position text and images.
    Any sources / ideas?

    AFAIK there is no way at all to position images in text
    except for left or right alignment ( float in CSS ). So there's no
    need to look any further on that part.
    Have played with it a lot lately but not compiled a good list
    of findings. Basic textformatting works pretty good, but it stops
    there. No positioning etc. I've seen some components ( in adobe's
    exchange for example ) doing table-type formatting of text, maybe
    that'll work for you.
    What did you try to get the text stuff you want?

  • Html - XML parser

  • I've been writing software for 33yrs. I've many apps. I'd like to use html/xml to replace my aging IDE's. Firefox will no longer execuate a binary directly called from hypertext on the local system. Why?

    I would rather not re-write the old IDE's I've been using for years but rather replace them with html/xml web style pages. Konqueror will locally execute binaries with a launcher script. Firefox, Chrome, re-Konq, WebPositive, and IE Explorer will not. If Firefox or SeaMonkey would execute my binaries I could easily replace the old IDE's and save myself and my clients a lot of time and money.

    That isn't acceptable. I guess that if you don't want to tell me I'll go to Opera or Chrome and ask. I could simply disassemble the code. That takes a long time. 270 Clients some running software that was written as fare back as 1979. I know I'm small, but they have families and business to run. The cost of re-developing the IDE's is huge for small business. I had hoped you would help.

  • Temporary Result files (html, xml)

    I find TestStand creates temporary .html and .xml files in the seq folder and also the directory where the results is saved.
    This is when using HTML reports, and specifying the path (avoiding the temporary results check-box option)
    Any one else also experiencing this ?

    TestStand creates temporary .html files during an execution to allow the report to be shown in the Sequence Editor during execution. This KnowledgeBase article describes the temporary files in more detail: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D327A5B3227E8F40862568470008409F?OpenDocument
    It's interesting that you're seeing a temporary .xml file without having the "Use Temporary File" option enabled for an XML report. If you execute a very simple sequence (for example, just a Message Popup step) with the default Sequential process model, do you still see this temporary XML file?

  • Spotlight: how to exclude html, xml, js files

    Spotlight brings up so many files that I don't want (HTML, Javascript, XML, EDML, .class, .properties, .cer) that I have trouble finding the files I do want. I have the following folders checked in the Spotlight "search results" preferences:
    Documents
    Folders
    Images
    PDF Documents
    Music
    Movies
    Applications
    Is there a way to set the preferences to exclude specific file types by default?

    You need to play around with Spotlight's search criteria. Under kind you can select various combinations. Spotlight's default settings SxxxxxK. I prefer using a savedSearch which has my set of defaults. This, from SL, which still has the useful File Name option, stupidly removed in ML and Mavs.

  • Creating a help interface using HTML/XML for text data.

    Hi,
    I'm currently building an application which has need of a help feature. I plan to have this either in an individual/internal frame or in a seperate browser window. My question is this:
    1. Can I open a browser window without losing my OS independence?
    2. Is there a swing component that displays a HTML file from the source file, or is my only option to get an XML file, run it through SAX and display it that way?
    Note: I'm already using an XML parser as part of this project, so using it for a help file would be no big problem. I'm just trying to find a (quick) workaround. Not that I like cutting corners.
    Any comments on this are welcome, no matter how small.
    Thanks for your time.

    In answer to 1. -> No you can't open a browser window without using the underlying OS mechanism...you could however encapsulate the OS mechanisms in a separate class/package so that your core app doesn't have to know...
    In answer to 2. -> Danger Will Robinson!!! Yes you can use the JEditorPane, but to be fair, it's c**p, and when you release the system your Users will whine endlessly about why they can't open their help files in their usual browser (this is especially true if they are coded in HTML). I know this because I wrote a help application using HTML and had Users and the marketing department complain at me endlessly. Also, the HTMLEditorKit in Swing seems to have a number of strange handling of img paths, at least in 1.3 it did...this caused me all sorts of problems...
    The usual way to get around this kind of thing is to open up a file browser, get the User to pick their favourite browser application (usually the .exe on Windows or the script on Unix) and then remember it, when it comes to opening the help file just use Runtime.getRuntime ().exec ("userBrowserLocation pathToHelpFile"). Of course this has the trouble that you can't package the help file in a jar or zip, but in general Users want to have control over HTML files...and Users usually have a fanatical desire to use their favourite browser to view them in...
    Just a thought...

  • Java operating on HTML/XML

    Hello,
    I wish to create a program that is reading and changing a XML sight
    So I wonder if you know how it is possible to this

    how to fix this..:)
    Any help or references would be gratefully accepted

    ..je ne parles pas francais, Excuze moi..
    It is an RSS that I must do
    As I understand the XML has several feeds that contains a certain number of
    items
    A GUI is to be made where a user can for example, where clicking "update" would
    mean parse the XML, and check for new items and add them to a certain list.
    There is one thing I don't understand is how to do this: user should be able
    to add a feed. I thought the feeds and XML cooperation was something automatically
    done from the source of the feeds. hmm aha maybe the GUI is ment to be used by the source of the feed. So in detail to add a feed: would mean add an item with it's corresponding <title><link><description>, right?

  • Html/xml coding help for SMIL

    We are just switching over to using Flash and I've got a
    Event URI but my hosting company is having trouble on how to show
    the player/stream on our webpage. Is there a sample I can show them
    for the below stream I've got out there?
    http://hwcdn.net/e7a4h6n3/fls/10403-Backstop.smil

    You could do this in a servlet. This is the general idea.
    1 Take the xml file that is suppose to be change and create a DOM representation. The following creates a
    DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document doc = db.parse("myfile.xml");
    2 Then extract the request parameter names and there values and from the request name and value create a node. This node must match an element definition in the DTD of the xml that has been parsed into the DOM otherwise the xml will become invalid.
    Enumeration enum = req.getParameterNames();
    while(enum.hasMoreElements())
    String reqName = (String)enum.nextElement();
    String value = req.getParameter(reqName);
    //Construct an element from these values
    Element reqElement = document.createElement(reqName);
    Node reqValue = document.createTextNode(value);
    //Add the request value to the element
    reqElement.appendChild(reqValue);
    3 Then you will want to place this node in the correct part of the dom. I think you can search through the DOM for the correct node, and then add the node to the correct part of the tree e.g
    node.appendChild(reqElement);
    You will then have to revalidate the xml document.
    4 You can then write out the change xml file to disk using the transform method of javax.xml.Transform.Transformer to output a DOM to a text file. See the JAXP tutorial section using XSLT to do this.
