I am being asked for my password every time I delete an item, but nothing is going into my trash can. Can this be resolved please?

Every time I delete something I am asked for my password, which is very annoying.  The deleted items are no longer going into my trash can, but are completely wiped from my computer!!  Is it possible for a non-computer literate everyday user to re instate the trash can to its original function?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

How do I turn off being asked for my password EVERY time I download an App on the app store?  When I go to the security page on "Manage my Apple ID" it only has a link to set-up two step verification...not disable it.

    You can't.

  • I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. Is it Lion?

I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. As you can imagine this is very annoying. It says I am not connected to the internet and offers me a choice of nearby networks including mine and then asks for a password when I select it. Why does it do this with our new MacBooks (also with my son's brand new one) and not with the iPhone, iPad and older MacBook? They happily automatically connect to our network after entering the password just the once.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.

how can I turn off Keychain from asking for my password EVERY time I check for mail?
This is really driving me nuts.....
    Thanks

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, and then click General.
Open the General pane of Security & Privacy preferences
    2.     Select “Require password...NEVER after sleep or screen saver begins.”  You can adjust the amount of delay before a password is required in the pop-up menu.
From what I am aware, you cannot turn off the keychain.
    I hope this helps.

  • ITunes Asks For My Password Every Time It Opens

Running Mac OSX 10.10.1 (Yosemite) and iTunes 12.0.1.26
Every time I open iTunes, it asks me for my password. It asks for it usually four times:
-to enable automatic downloads (twice, not always in succession)
    - to enable iTunes Radio
    - And to enable downloads
I've asked this before with no success and no solutions.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

Like Jassy, this is a relatively new issue. I hate to say it, but it seemed to coincide with my Mavericks update. I doubt it's because of that, specifically, but it was around the same time. I really think it's some kind of Safari/iTunes issue.
I actually don't understand what you mean by an active internet connection being the problem. I'm only on line when my Mac is turned on and (I assume) when I'm on email or browsing the web. I don't have any connections set up when I'm not actively on line. But even so, I don't know wh that would cause me to have to log in to iTunes (four times in rapid succession) every time I clear my browser history.
That seems to be the one thing that causes it though - clearing my Safari History. If I don't clear it, iTunes doesn't require me to log back in. Only when I clear it does iTunes make me do those four log ins.
Hope that helps clarify this. I'm not a real whiz at this.

  • ITunes asks for my password EVERY time

When I open iTunes it asks for my password at least twice but sometimes 5-6 times every time I open it!  Ahhhhhhhh!  How can this eb stopped it really is very, very annoying Apple!  I pay for Match but I'm beginning to think iTunes is becoming overly complicated and not worth the money......

Okay, I think I got the answer. I went to the Apple store and asked a salesman who pointed me in the direction of another salesman who knows his stuff. I've only done this for a few days, but it seems to be working.
Open itunes and sign out and de-authorize. You must do both.
He reccomended going into keychain access and deleteing the itunes entry. I could not find it, which may have been the problem, more later.
I then rebooted and cleared PRAM for good measure.
Now restart itunes and sign in and authorize.
I did this on Monday night and have not been having the problem, I opened itunes several times and rebooted several times, etc.
Today I checked keychain access and now I see an itunes entry.
I think it is okay now!

  • ITunes ask for my password every time I update an app

    Device: iPad2 with iOS 7.0.3
Starting just this week, every time I click on "update" to update an app, it prompts me for my iTunes password. This happens even if I click on one update after the other, it prompts me to enter my password every time. Last week, I was able to update apps and it didn't prompt me for my iTunes password each time.
Any ideas what may of happened?
    Thank you in advanced.

This worked perfectly! Thank you so much!

Do you currently have Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password set to 'Immediately' ? If you do then you will need to enter your password for every app update as well as for every new purchase.

  • Why does my keychain keep asking for my password every time I access the same web site?

The ClamXav scan found 4 virus/trojan problems and quarantined them. Before I did thid, my keychain keeps popping up asking me if I want to save my password everytime I visit the same web site(s). Is there an issue with this? And how to I fix it?

What were the infection names associated with those four files and where we're they found. That information is in your Scan Log if you didn't record them yourself. Search for the word "FOUND" in upper case.
The keychain activity sounds normal as long as your browser preferences are set to save that information for AutoFill the next time you visit the site.

thanks in advance for any advice

Just scroll to the bottom of a screen in iTunes and log out of your iTunes account. She will be asked for your iTunes username and password if she tries to get anything--free or paid.

  • ITunes asks for my password every time I start iTunes

I have a MBP tunning Lion 10.7.2. I am running iTunes version 10.5.1. Everytime I start iTunes it asks for my itunes password to make automatic downloads available. So I enter it. But the next time I start iTunes it asks again, and again and again. If I hit cancel it will ask again. If I Sign Out of the store it won't ask anymore, until I sign into the store again. If I stay signed in and I hit cancle when it asks it still lists me as signed in.
This seems to have started since Lion.
    Any suggestions? It's very annoying.
