I book G4 dead

I left my i book G4 today downloading a tv show off i tunes... I come back 2 hrs later and its sleeping. I hit enter it sounds like its coming back on... Then i look no sleep light - blank screen... I try hitting the power button nothing happens... Its fully charged... What can i do my computer won't swtich on? Whats worse its just out of the 3 year warranty and i've just moved to Northern AZ - no apple stores anywhere near.

Thanks but that didn't fix it... what seems to have fixed it was unlocking the battery the computer made a cinching sound... The battery wouldn't come out but... when i locked the battery again the computer switched on... One of my friends said it sounds like my memory is loose and i should rescrew it but since my battery won't come out... i'm not wanting to try that unless it breaks again!

  • Mac Book Pro Dead - Completely Unresponsive

First to give a little background info - my Mac Book Pro is 13 months old - I missed the Apple Care Deadline by a week due to a mistake on my part. Upon purchase I received 3 faulty machines prior to this one. I had put the deadline in my calendar based on when I got a functional machine, rather than my purchase date - my fault. I tried to beg Apple Care for mercy a mere 2 days after my actual deadline and just got passed from associate to associate until one would finally just disconnect me. (This happened 3 times).
On to the saga of last night. I'm working at home, running iTunes, Mail, and Photoshop. I'm working on a layout in Photoshop - nothing very taxing on the system at all. The only things connected to the machine were the power adapter and my Wacom tablet. As I was editing a photo, all of a sudden the computer just shut off. There were no beeps, no pops, no cracks, nothing. Just dead, gone, nothingness. I feared the worst immediately due to the no Apple Care. Unfortunately, I fear even more than my initial fears were accurate.
I'm writing this post to see if anyone has experienced anything similar and has come up with a solution. I've searched the forums but don't seem to find anything but the random shut off issue (which this doesn't seem to be as those systems would at least reboot).
    So far I've tried:
    1) removing the battery, and powering up using only AC power
    2) resetting the PMU
    3) leaving it over night without power connected and the batter removed and then re-connecting to AC power
Nothing has produced any results at all. Any help/advice is appreciated. I have a feeling that I'm pretty screwed as it seems like a power issue or a fried logic board - neither of which sound like cheap repairs.
    Thanks much.
    Andy

Well, no official word yet, however there I do have news to report. The Genius at the Apple Store (Michael @ Ridgedale Mall, MN) was VERY helpful and reassuring that he didn't think it was a huge issue. He doesn't think its a logic board or anything that in depth - his initial thoughts were that a wire simply came loose and thats why it will charge, but we get no activity when the power button is pushed.
I also explained to him about my fiasco with even getting this machine in the first place (this is my 3rd machine - first two arrived damaged out of the box), and they had it on record that I had tried to buy apple care within the year time frame of when I actually received the satisfactory model (this one). Plus the fact that this is no where near my first Apple purchase and that ALL of my other products have AppleCare plans.
He gave me some pointers and told me to call AppleCare today and explain the situation, explain that I'd been misinformed from various channels, etc. Well it worked, and I now have AppleCare on the machine as of today.
I should know what repair is needed in the next day, and hopefully have the machine back early next week.
Needless to say this experience once again renewed my faith in Apple and the support they offer loyal customers.

  • HT2494 Mac book pro dead

I plugged in an Iphone usb cable to charge my iphone and as soon as the usb touched the port, the macbook pro went dead.  The laptop will not turn on, the charging light does not turn on.  Completely Dead.  Hoping that I can recover the data.
i copied this from someones site and they all didnt know how to fix it, i have the same problem.

    Hi EmManna3i,
If your MacBook Pro will not power on at all, I would suggest following the steps in this article to get it up and running -
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367
Resetting the System Management Controller, as mns579 suggests, is one of the steps but there are a few others that may assist you as well.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Printing problem with Photoshop CS 6 extended and HP printer

Hi all, long time browser, first time poster.
This is a weird issue, it should be noted from the first that I only have weird computer issues. I work at a technical High School where we have the whole Adobe CS6 Extended suite installed. We are running it under a fully patched version of Windows 7 and all the CS6 updates have been applied on 25 machines that all have the same issue. The problem is that when the students go to print to our HP Color Laser jet CP6015DN, the job can been seen loading into the queue, it races up to about 45MB, then sort of strolls to load the rest of the document, usually about 59 to 75 MB's in size. Then I watch the message go to processing, the front panel of the printer says processing, then the print job disappears from the printer queue and the printer and there is no print out. I printed out the usage job log and it shows none of the failed attempts to print and I check the event log page which does not show the errors either.
Looks like a bad printer driver, right? So I download the new HP Universal printer driver, I normally do not do the Universal driver route as so many of my older printers have problems with it, but the CP6015DN seems to have trouble accessing the extended tray 5 with the specific drivers, but I have the same printing issue with the new Universal driver and the PS driver. So I wander through the HP manual and it suggests using profiles to print to the printer and move the color handling from Printer Manages Colors to Photoshop manages colors and I track down the ICC profiles for the printer on the HP site as the link in the book is dead, so try the CP6015srgb_d50.icc, CP6015_cmyk_d50.icc and CP6015.icc, I try all of these profiles with the newest PS printer driver and the same error, goes to the printer and into the bit bucket. Still no printout or error message.
Strange thing is that if I do a test print, it prints fine, if I open a tif file in Photoshop, it prints fine, now the teacher says if they print to the Xeorx 7760 in the next room, it also prints out fine. It should be noted that we had so many issues with configuring the Xerox and adjusting controls it was the reason we purchased a HP proofing printer in the first place. But the next door lab is all Apple, which doesn't seem to have this issue. So I open the test document and save it as a PDF file instead the native Photoshop format, and it prints fine, which from what I've been reading on the internet may be the preferred way of printing proofs, I don't know, I've never really used Photoshop, but the teacher says this isn't an acceptable fix and the students should be expected to manage a number of revisions saved to PDF format, me I just go up a number at the end of the file name for every correction when editing documents.
Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

Yes, Photoshop is up to date at Version 13.0.6.  I have even gone so far as to uninstall CS 6 and put CS 5 back on and still the same thing.  This is really frustrating, the people at Canon try to be helpful but wind up saying it's an Adobe problem and of course you can't talk to real people anymore about CS 6.  My research on the Internet has turned up nothing so I'm stuck.

  • Color consistency

We recently used Aperture 2 to upload a small brochure for our architecture firm, with mixed results. We have our Apple Display calibrated with an Eye One Pro.
The cover of the softcover book was dead-on to the professionally-shot photograph.
The exact same image used on the inside of the book was slightly lighter, and most of the interior photos were slightly washed out.
We actually get better prints from our Xerox Phaser 7400, calibrated with Eye One. Or our Epson RX700.
Is there anything to be done to improve this?

    Hi Tom,
How funny you mentioned Blurb. Well, I have some experience with Blurb. The Blurb Booksmart app itself is very buggy and not perfect application. I believe it is a Java-based application.
Uhm, there is lot of problems with "quality-related" when it comes to quality of printing and binding books at the Blurb.
But the photo books, in general, are nice "coffee table" photo books. The thing is if you have Adobe InDesign CS3 and Adobe Photoshop CS3, where you can create your own customized full-bleed layout in Id or Ps apps, and then export them into Blurb BookSmart and then order the book. But there is catch is that Booksmart could not really understand or interprets high quality of photos created by Id or Ps app, but the outcome with printed book turned out nicely for me. Additionally, be sure to soft-proof the whole process in Id/Ps before exporting them into Booksmart. Of course, you need to make sure that all photos set to sRGB and 300 dpi. I am not fond of sRGB that much. But Booksmart at Blurb only works with sRGB color profile, that doesn't work out nicely in my humble opinion.
On the final note, the price at Blurb seems to be reasonable for the quality of coffee table photo books. Blurb is relatively new and small company. I would think they have a lot of room for improvement.
Staff at Blurb mentioned that there will be upcoming changes and better options with different kind of paper stock and things like that. I doubt that is going to happen this year, but who knows.
The thing is dealing with customer service at Blurb is something else. If your book turned out badly and horrible, you will not be given a full refund. They simply will give you other book and ask you to return the bad book back to them at no cost. Plus, the shipping fees seem to be a major issue among Blurb bookmakers or participants at forums over there.
P.S. Of course, you need to make sure that you have a calibrated device for your monitor. It is a MUST to have. Or your photo books looks horrible eventually and waste of money and time.

  • Magsafe (again)

After 40 or more kick outs, where my mid 2010 book went dead and lost all charge whilst on the mains (though would re-charge), it finally died. All I had was a grey apple, grey spinner and a horizontal thermometer that got to 1 cm before all went black again. I replaced the battery, then the hard drive (sibling issues, plus HD full etc) and the magsafe cable. I got a decent reinstall off my old HD in a Startech enclose and was amazed that my baby rebooted. No combination of any keys had done this when it was inside the machine. I put Maverick on the new hard drive and all was perfect. (Apple owe me 4 weeks of my life thinking this through).
But my MBP still wasn't charging. Green to orange to off etc. Then it occurred to me that the socket in the side was to blame. All the shorting had stuffed my hard drive. When I took a tooth pick to the socket and scraped out the dirt the new magsafe seated correctly and I have had no issues since.
So 2 questions, can the shorting at the connection blow a hard drive? And can the obsession with the pins just be symptomatic of a bad connection at the computer end?
Anyway I hve a Macbook Pro that works today. But after spending £60 on a battery, £20 on tools (my battery was 5 not 3 winged, for some reason, so add £10 and a wasted week waiting for a Y30 something) £40 on a new HD (a bargain, God love mistakes on Amazon) £40 on the enclosure and whatever a new Magasafe cable is I seem to have solved my issue with a toothpick.
Toothpicks are 50p for 50 at my local store.
    Mike

You might want to look at [this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1630] from Apple's knowledge base. It is possible that the way you are using the magsafe adapter is contributing to the issue.
    Best of luck.

  • How to delete previous invitee from apple iCal invite list? When inviting "Joe" an old Email address shows up. This person is literally dead! (may he rest peacefull) and I can't find his Email address to delete anywhere. Not in my address book

When sending calendar invite to "invitee" an old address appears. This guy is literally dead (may he rest in peace) and has same first name as person I send to all the time. So "dead" guy always pops up. Can't find his address to delete anywhere -- not in previous recipients, not in my address book, does not "auto-populate" when I try to send an Email. Still shows up everytime I want to send iCal invite. Spooky. Help me delete this guy from my iCal invitee options so he can truly rest in peace. Thanks!

I am talking about iPhoto. In my old Mac even in Books choosing slideshow gives a pop up where you can select a music from I tunes library. In this new one I can stop the slideshow with cursor and it shows music option but it is, as I said dead. Does not response at all to commands.

  • MAC BOOK PRO WILL NOT START- COMPLETELY DEAD!

I forgot to power down my mac book pro last night. I closed the lid & forgot to go back & turn it off completely. This morning it will not power up. The machine is completely dead.
The power supply wasn't connected overnight so I assume the battery has completely drained. It's been charging for the last 2 hours (which would normally have fully charged it) but the light on the power cord is still showing green so I assume it's still charging, however there should be plenty of juice in the battery to start the computer but it still won't start.
Any ideas how to get it started?

A dead battery will take longer to start charging, but leave it on and eventually it will start to charge again.
Once you get it charged, perform a SMC and PRAM reset

  • My Mac book pro is dead and the local authorised service center is screwing me. They are asking me almost the cost of a Mac for repairing it. What should be done?

My Mac book pro which is just one and half years old got dead suddenly. My Protection plan got over and the local authorised service center says the logic board is dead and it has to be replaced. The cost for the same which they are telling is Rs.47500 and another Rs.30000 for the display. Its really sad that a new Mac book pro is costing only Rs65000 in the Indian Market. Please help....I have saved lot of money to buy this Mac and its very sad that it goes off in less than 2 years time.
