I can't add or remove any songs from my ipod shuffle when I connect it to my laptop. I've never had any problems with it before last night and it is driving me insane. Can anyone help?

When trying to copy an audio book that I have purchased in itunes (which I have done for years) a messge has suddenly started coming up saying 'Itunes cannot add any songs to the ipod 'bla bla' because no songs exist in the playlist name of book' can be copied to this ipod' ' It worked a couple of weeks ago when I copied half of a book and it has worked for the past few years, but suddenly now none of my ipods will work with audio book yet they will with songs in my playlists. I want to add new songs to my ipod. When I set it up with itunes years ago I had a different computer that I no longer have. Now it will not let me add new songs to my ipod shuffle without erasing everything that is already on it. Help!!! Is there any way around this?
Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me. Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

It sounds like you are needing to activate your Apple ID with FaceTime on the Mac. Try these steps from the following article named:

What in the world is wrong when my purchased songs cannot be added to my iphone? It seems random because many of them were transfered/synced but now some just won't sync. But, then the error message: Itunes cannot add any songs to the iphone because no songs in the itunes purchased can be copied to this iphone.
I have the latest version of itunes
Macbook ios has Mavericks 10.9.5
all other items (including other music) has been syncing correctly
THEN when I try to use another method to get the music (screen shot #1) it gives me the error message below (screen shot #2):
Why in the world would anyone want to remove all existing music just to sync the music? How would I compare what is on my phone from what is on my macbook itunes to see what might be lost? How do I get it to sync?

All my music was on prior to syncing. The sync deleted all my music. I can now no longer add any music. I have the "sync music" checked. Restoring factory settings did not work. Any thoughts?
When you synced with iTunes It would have tried to replace the music on the iPhone with what is on the computer. which is what happens when you sync with iTunes.
If the songs are purchased you can re-downloaded them Pretty easily. You mentioned that you still see the songs and that you could not play them. Do they have a Cloud symbol next to them? If so this means that you can download them but that they are not on the device. -
I had a hard drive blow out and lost my itunes library. Now when I connect my ipod itunes tells me it is not sync'd. I am not permited to delete or add any songs. I do not want to loose my ipod songs if I reset. Any ideas? Thanks.

You are manually managing if you add songs to the iPod by dragging them yourself from iTunes to the iPod.
And you delete them by selecting them in the iPod and deleting them.
Click the Summary tab and you will see an option to *Manually manage music and videos*.
In my preferences, under Device, the box that says, "Do not automatically sync iPods" is clicked.
That option simply prevents the iPod from syncing when it is plugged in. You have to select Sync iPod, either by right clicking on the iPod, clicking the Sync button at lower right or from the File menu.
If you want to change info for a song, I highly suggest you do it in iTunes then re-add the song to the iPod. -

Hi all, I was wondering if you can help. I had my itunes installed on a freinds computer. I now have my own computer and have connected my ipod and installed itunes. I have been able to import the songs I purchased from itunes onto the new computer, but cannot seem to import the songs from the shuffle to the itunes library. Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use, this is required for most if not all the utilities listed below so they can access the files: Using your iPod as a storage drive
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward, just check for one that soecifically state they work with the iPod shufle. There is also manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. my computer deleted all of my songs off my ipod one time with i unplugged it, i think i unplugged it too soon and it wasn't finished ejecting. now every time i plug it in it gives me an error saying "the ipod 'Skye' cannot be synced, a duplicate file name was specified." It wont let me put any songs on my ipod now.
Never mind. I found out how to fix the problem
- Go to "Computer"
- Right click on your IPod icon
- Click "Properties"
- Go to the "Tools" tab
- Under "Error -checking" cilck the "Check now..." button
After doing all of that, ITunes now works like normal for me. -

The easiest answer would be to just get a Friskars cutter or something similar. I have one like this that I use to cut my photos apart. I found mine at a Walmart in either the scrapbook aisle or the hobby aisle.
However, if you are determined to make a custom picture package you can try making a custom layout with a text editor. I know you can control the white space amount but not sure if you can totally eliminate it.
A simple text editor will work...notepad works for this on Windows...not sure what is comparable on the mac.
In PSE3, the layouts are found following this path Adobe<Photoshop Elements 3.0<Shared Assets<Layouts...note there is also a folder titled Layouts readmes which shows the formula to edit the layouts.

Accidents happen, and apple can certainly assist you with replacement of said device. Most manufacters would tell you to buy a brand new retail unit, apple will charge you about half price for a replacement unit. I agree its unfortunate that it happend, but expecting a free replacement is just going to lead to disappointment
