I currently have Mac OS X  10.5.8 but I need version 10.7.5 or later to download the newest ITunes.

I currently have Mac OS X 10.5.8 but I need 10.7.5 or later versions to download the latest ITunes. Please help! I have lost my original updating cd that came with my MacBook. I'm having trouble understanding where I could go and simply download 10.7.5 version or later. It seems like I have to download a whole bunch of versions prior to downloading the version I actually want. Is there a simpler/efficient way?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update. The current iTunes version won't work on 10.6.8.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.

I guess you upgrade or visit H & R Block.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

i have been trying to download the newest itunes to my windows 7 computer wit the last 2 wks now... im at the stage where iv tried everting from uninstalling itunes to installing it again... can someone please help before i throw the computer out the window!

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • The button to download the newest itunes is faint and wont allow me to select? trying to download onto my mac

    hi guys,
ive just got a new ipod 7th gen.
trying to download the new itunes version but when i go to itunes page i can select download onto mac, but underneath it the buttons have changed to a small blue and white question mark and the 'download' button in the right hand top corner is fainted out and wont let me select.
    any ideas?
i cant go for a run until i get my new ipod working! eeek!

If that is happening on the iTunes web page, that is odd.  What version of Mac OS X does your Mac run?
You can try using Software Update instead.  From the Apple menu, select Software Update.  If there is a more recent version of iTunes available for your Mac and version of Mac OS X, it will appear listed as an available update.

  • I have downloaded the newest iTunes software on my Windows 64 bit computer so I can update my iPhone 4 to OS5. When I open iTunes it opens and then crashes. I have completely uninstalled iTunes twice and reloaded it twice and still doesn't work.

I down loaded the newest iTunes software to update my iPhone 4 and when I open it, it crashes. I have completely uninstalled it twice and reinstalled it again and still it doesn't work. Please help.

    - First I would remove and reinstall all the Apple software using the following and then restoring the ipOd.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - Next see if manually placing the iPOd in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Next try DFU mode:
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - Next try another computer/cable to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem.
    - If the other computer works and yours does not see:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • I can not download the newest itunes to my imac but it will not, keep getting error message. So wanted to update to lion but unable to locate the mac app store.

looking fro help to get new version of itunes downloaded on imac that is running snow leopard and trying to update to lion but cannot find the mac app store.

App Store is an application in Applications folder on your hard disk.
But what error do you get, when trying to update iTunes? That should be possible in Snow Leopard too!

  • I have a Windows XP computer and i cannot download the newest itunes update.

And since I can't do this, I can't download music onto my iPhone. Everytime I go through the downloading process, I click "run" for the software and then the box disappears and nothing happens. I restarted my computer and I still have the same old iTunes as before. This is so frustrating because now I have no way of putting my library onto my phone. I have the iPhone 4.

  • I am trying to download the newest Itunes to windows 7. I did have a previous version that I used the control panel to delete. When I click on download, I get a small partial window in the upper left corner showing Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web

I did have a previous version of Itunes and Quicktime that I used the control panel Uninstall to remove. When I do the download, I get a small window in the upper left saying Internet Explorer Cannot Display Webpage. It is trying to get to ....itunes64setup.  I did check to see that all old Apple directorories, etc have been delete. Help!

Okay. Let's see if you've acquired some kind of restriction for the download site. These settings checks/changes apply to the IE downloads, so we'll be trying to use IE again.
Head into your Internet Options control panel, and click the Security tab. Click Restricted Sites.
Check to see if the following website is listed as a restricted site:
    appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net
If it is, remove it from your list of restricted sites and try another download.
If still no joy, head back into the security tab of the Internet Options control panel. Click Trusted Sites this time. Click the "Sites" button.
Add appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net as a trusted site. Uncheck the "Require server verification" box. Now click OK and try another download.

  • Hi, I am trying to update my ipod touch 4th gen. I have downloaded the newest iTunes and each time i try to update i keep getting error 3004 i'm on firmware 5.1.1 trying to update to iOS 6. please help

    Need help

Ok make sure you have iTunes 11. Then connect iPod touch to computer then iTunes should pop up automatically. After it opens on the bottom left there should be a tab where it says your name and then iPod. For example (Johns iPod) click on that then it brings all your information of the iPod including restore and updating.
    Dont worry

    many thanks.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

Hi, you need to upgrade to 10.5.x...
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10 or later4
Internet access is required; broadband recommended; fees may apply
    http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/specs.html
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.
There are workarounds if the 867MHz is the only hangup...

Then you either have a network problem or a hardware problem or a corrupted hard drive. You might try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
You can also try downloading from another computer on a different network connection.
