No backup obviously, or you wouldn't need to ask.
Do you still have the last computer? Even if it won't run it might be possible to extract the files from the hard drive.
Do you have any of this media on an iDevice? If so see this post from forum regular Zevoneer for options on moving your iPod data back to your computer.
Are you based in US? If so you should be able to redownload your music previously purchased from the iTunes store without being charged again.

  • Computer Crashed. Getting iPod info onto a new one?

Okay. First of all, hi. I'm Sam. Nice to meet you.
I love my iPod, I named it Bubbles. Truly, it's my prized posession. Our old computer recently crashed and does not work, which is why I'm here.
I want to add new songs and pictures to my iPod, but I don't want to lose the ones I already have by synching it to a new iTunes. I looked in the FAQ but to manage it that way, I'd need to use my old computer which is completely and utterly destroyed.
Can somebody please save my life and tell me there's still hope for Bubbles?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
There are also various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
If you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • I have an old iphone 3 with all of my music on it. The laptop that had them stored in itunes has long since died. Ive got a new iphone 5 and Mac and would like to put the music onto the new iphone.

I have an old iphone 3 that has all my music on it. The itunes library that had all the songs in it is on a laptop that died. Ive got a new iphone 5 and Mac and was wondering how i can transfer the music from the old phone to the new one??

You can transfer the purchases you made on your old iPhone 3 by plugging it in to iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from your IPhone to the iTunes on your computer.  This will get music you purchased in iTunes, apps, etc.  (e.g., movies).
But for the rest you would need to restore a backup of your newly deceased computer.

  • I want to import my bookmarks from my old hard drive to my new computer. Old hard drive is in new computer as secondary drive, can't run firefox from it. Would like to find the file where my bookmarks are stored

have looked in the old hard drive for the file where my favorites would be stored. the only file that I can find is not the latest. I did not back up my favorites on the old computer.

Bookmarks are no longer stored in an html file. Instead, they are stored in a file called '''places.sqlite''' in your '''Profile''' folder.
    # Locate the '''places.sqlite''' file in your old hard drive.
    # Copy it into the '''Profile''' folder of your new hard drive.
    # Note that since you would be overwriting the places.sqlite in your new drive, your current bookmarks/history etc would be overwritten by the ones in the old drive.

  • I would like the window that opens with a new tab to be my home page. Instead it's YAHOO and I don't like it. How do I fix this so new tab is homepage?

When I Ctrl+t to get a new tab it opens with YAHOO as the page. I would like it to open my HOMEPAGE.

You can look at one of these extensions:
    * NewTabURL : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2221
    * New Tab Homepage : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/777
You may need to check other extensions if they are overriding the page that opens in a new tab.

    Hi chrisb75729216,
I checked with your account but could not find any order history so you might be using another email address on forums.
You will first need to deactivate Acrobat from old machine and then install Acrobat on the new machine by activating with the same serial number.
Please download Acrobat XI pro from here: Other downloads
If you have single user license, then remember that the software can be activated on maximum two computers, say your desktop at work and laptop at home.
    Regards,

  • I downloaded i tunes onto my new computer, i connected my iphone during the updating process itunes failed and i lost all my purchased music from my iphone. I would like to get it reinstated how ?

I downloaded itunes onto my new computer, i connected my iphone during the updating process itunes failed and i lost all my purchased music from my iphone and can no longer retrieve them. I would like to know how i can reinstate the lost music please.

When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT1373 i have a broken desktop which had my itunes account on it. I am trying to get the information onto a new laptop and itunes programme but cannot. I also cannot get my iphone 5 to be recognized on the new itunes. HELP

i have a broken desktop which had my itunes account on it.
I am trying to get the information onto a new laptop and itunes programme but cannot. I have only managed to copy over some of my music as i had it on an external drive.
I also cannot get my iphone 5 to be recognized on the new itunes.
    HELP

iTunes as you see it in the application window uses a series of files and folders contained in the iTunes folder.  Some people make the mistake of only backing up their media in which case all you have is a bunch of media files without the iTunes structure.  In that case you have to build a new library yourself.
What exactly do you mean "not recognized"?  The phone does not show up on the computer at all, or it does but it says it will wipe the phone?  The wipe the phone stuff is again because it cannot find the original library to which it was synced.  You need to transfer the entire iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup you made of it.

  • My kids set up itune account on my computer and no one remembers the password.  I want to start my own itunes account, but I would like to get some of the music off this account.  Any suggestions?

my kids set up itune account on my computer years ago and no one remembers the password.  They started new accounts on their macs.   I want to start my own itunes account, but I would like to get some of the music off this account.  Any suggestions?

The easiest way would probably be to recover the data of the old account and change it to match your current info, after that you can continue to use the account without any problems. To recover your account go to: Apple - My Apple ID
Alternatively if you want to start a new account do it and then contact iTunes support to see if the y can transfer your purchases (I know of cases on which they have done it)

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
