I have a 2013 mac pro and the volume keys aren't changing the volume of my LED display. The icon shows up as going up or down but the volume seems to not adjust.

I've had this computer since october of 2013 or so and I have just recently run into this problem. I use the volume keys on the keyboard and I hear the tick sounds and it shows that its going up and down but the volume doesn't actually change. I've looked in the "sound" settings and everythings seems to be correct... I can't adjust the sound in their either though. I pay too much to be having an issue like this.

Possible? Yes. Likely? I'm not sure.
In my house, I would suspect that either one of our pets chewed on a cable or dislodged a connector, or somebody bumped a connection loose, but then I would expect either no volume at all or hum from a grounding problem. Clear, non-zero constant volume is harder to explain.
You say adjusting the output volume directly in the Sound settings or on the menu bar also has no effect on the audible output?
You might want to go ahead and answer the question about connections. Somebody else might come along who recognizes a possible problem with the particular combination you are using. I don't have exactly your model of Mac Pro or display. (Is yours the Apple LED Cinema Display? Which size?)

  • I have a 2013 Mac Pro, and it KPs when I hit "D" for AHT

The computer seems to be having issues with sleep and wake. It won't display via mini-display or HDMI output to a screen after waking from sleep. I disabled that, and that fixed the problem, but there just are some buggy things going on. I wanted to run Apple Hardware Test, so I connected a network cable, held down "D" and the machine Kernal Panics. Thoughts?

    Apple Diagnostics:
Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard, mouse, display, and speakers. If you have an Ethernet cable or external DVD drive, disconnect it.
Restart your Mac, holding down the D key while the Mac restarts. After your Mac restarts, Apple Diagnostics starts automatically. When Apple Diagnostics is finished, it lists any problems it finds.
(The reference code is for use by Apple Support.)
Consider doing some preliminary troubleshooting to determine if your issue is related to hardware. You can try to determine if the cause of your issue is related to hardware or software by following Isolating issues in Mac OS X. Apple Diagnostics can help determine which hardware component may be causing the issue.
Before starting Apple Diagnostics, be sure to disconnect all external devices except the keyboard, mouse, display, and Ethernet adapter. Also disconnect any external optical drives.
You should have an Internet connection before starting Apple Diagnostics. This will enable Apple Diagnostics to recommend support resources. Additionally, if Apple Diagnostics is not found on the internal startup volume, an Internet-based version starts up instead. You can still run Apple Diagnostics without an Internet connection, but no results will be uploaded to Apple and no connection to Apple Support web pages will
Turn off your computer if it is on by choosing Shut Down from the Apple () menu.
Press the power button to turn on your computer.
Immediately press and hold the D key until Apple Diagnostics begins.

I have a new mac pro and can't get a side scroll bar.  How can I get this?

The scroll bar is now set to appear automatically when you start scrolling with a trackpad or scroll wheel mouse. If you are using an mouse without a scrolling device, you should change a setting.
In System Preferences, click General, and in the Show Scroll Bars section, click the option for how you want it to work. If you want to see them all the time click "Always."

  • I have a new MAC Pro and transferred files from a PC. Now I have about 100GB of real information but 300GB of other which I can't ID from summing up each folder and sum of applications, music, pictures etc. What could be occuping the 300GB OF OTHER??

I have a new MacBook Pro and used the tool to transfer information from my HP Computer to the MAC during set up. THe size of the disk space used on the HP was about 200GB. Now I have 400GB used on the MAC. I have added up all the folders and applications etc. and they total only about 110GB. On the summary the "other " category shows over 300 GB. What could it be. I would like to recover the space.

  • I have a new Mac Pro and it seems to get hot...why?

I'm new to Apple products and I have a MacBook Pro and it seems to get very hot.  Am I doing something wrong with it?

Stedman.....I did that and under the temps., it would change as I watched it.  This is what I read most often.  Not sure if this is what you meant:
    HD Macintosh    33
    CPU    48
    CPU Heatsink 4   1
    Enclosure Base    34
    Enclosure Base 2    34
    Enclosure Base 3     33
    CPU (again???)    43
    CPU Diode     23
Not sure if that's the info you asked for?  I've only had this several weeks and I notice it getting hot at times.
Also, when I plug in the batter charger, it changes back and forth orange/green....
I know I need serious help with this..I truly appreciate your reply. Jo

  • Late 2013 Mac Pro and Samsung 4K U32D970Q Problems

I'm at my wits end. I really wish 4K displays were truly plug-n-play with new Macs.
I purchased a Samsung 4K U32D970Q from Amazon due to a couple positive reviews from users stating it works with their 2013 MP. It's a beautiful screen, much better uniformity than the LG 4K I sent back but it has a huge problem with random flickering. And by flickering I mean while watching videos, scrolling a website quickly the screen distorts and "blinks/flickers" momentarily then goes back to normal. I've tried a different DisplayPort>mDP cable along with the provided cables and same issue. The monitor is running SST at 60Hz.
You can see a video I made showing the blinking/flicker http://youtu.be/Rj8QwgzogqQ
This is actually my 2nd monitor as I did an exchange with Amazon same issue. I tried to contact Samsung and what a joke that support is. I get a guy who said he has no idea then sent me a firmware update list... that hasn't been updated since last March. No help.
I've already reset pram and smc, tried different TB ports without any luck.
Is it just wise to stick to the officially supported, and very expensive, list of 4K monitors or go QHD and wait for the 2016 MP for true 4K+ support?

I took your advice to setup a Genius appointment but they stopped me at higher tech support over the phone. I was told that because my current NEC 1920x1200 display, and the LG 4K cinema I returned, don't have any issues it's not my D300 gfx cards. He said bringing it in would only verify that so it'd be a waste of time.
I was then told to return it, we can't officially guarantee 3rd party compatibility etc etc. So sadly my saga with the Samsung is coming to a close. It's seriously the most beautiful screen I've ever used (no dead pixels, only slight contrast lost at the extreme edges but no worse than my aging NEC) which is unfortunate because going back to a non-4K is depressing.
I'm either going to pick up a QHD NEC or a refurbished Dell 4k 32in from Amazon since they have them used for about $1200 right now. Thanks again to everyone for the help.

  • Audio degrades on 2013 Mac Pro after about a half hour through USB mic

I record a podcast, and I've been noticing that my audio gets very scratchy after about a half hour. I've got a 2013 Mac Pro, and am using a SpeechWare USB TableMike. I've heard from others that this is a problem that happens with certain Macs, but have been unable to figure out why.
I previously had a late 2011 Mac mini, and never had this issue, even with the same mic.
Any thoughts? I've seen a couple of threads that were more specific to iMacs, and that, apparently, 10.9.2 fixed, but I'd like to try and figure out what's going on here.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • 2013 Mac Pro external drive options...?

So I have my new Mac Pro and it is pretty good....! I have a 500GB drive which is just so dam fast, but it is only 500GB.... and I'm coming from a 2010 Pro with 6TB of storage via a Drobo FireWire 800 RAID (still bummed that a pro machine shipped in 2010 with SATA 3 and USB 2, but I getting over it now!).
Anyway, I need to replace the Drobo. They have a Thunderbolt model, but it is Thunderbolt 1 not 2. LaCie also Thunderbolt 1. Now I know that Pegasus have a Thunderbolt 2 RAID box. So here is my question - does a 7200rpm drive top out at less or more than Thunderbolt 1 speeds? What about an SSD drive (given how prices are going I've gotta assume that I'll be able to afford an SSD RAID in a few years.....
I'm mostly a photographer, but I do edit a few videos per year. Speed and efficiency are really important to me.
What are people using? I've never used Pegasus and don't know anyone who has, but my Drobo has been solid for 4 years now and I would not hesitate to get another. Thanks in advance.

Maybe I am just too cheap, but I look at that OWC setup with a ThunderBolt to eSATA, and for US$229 (empty), you get a two-drive ThunderBolt-adapted enclosure. That has a lot more appeal than US$1400 for a Promise enclosure.
    Thunderbolt made affordable...
    OWC MercuryElite Pro+
    Lacie ThunderbolteSATA Adapter
    RAID Ready | eSATA x 2
They are also showing a new (not yet available) two-drive enclosure with dual ThunderBolt and USB-3, coming soon.

  • New Mac Pro and now no FLV Export option in FCP

    Hi Folks,
I have a new MAc PRo and just loaded final cut studio 2 and flash 8 onto it.. I know have no option in the quicktime conversion setting to export to FLV?
Please any help would be huge at this point...
Oh.. I loaded After Effects 7 to the new Mac PRo and I get the Export to FLV option from AE so what is the deal?

Hi Todd, I bet you upgraded from a PPC machine.
The real problem here is that Flash 8 is/was not a universal binary (i.e. an app that is supported on both the PPC and the Intel Macs).
So the included "FLV Exporter" QuickTime component does not show up in the export dialog even if it's installed as it just does not get loaded.
    (Should be in "NameOfSystemHD/Library/QuickTime").
If you update to Flash 9/CS3 you get a universal binary app and QT exporter component and it will work again on your (Intel) Mac Pro.
Btw., the Flash support that was in QuickTime had nothing to do with export - especially not with FLV - but with playback of Flash content.
Addionally, AE 7 isn't a universal binary either, so you will suffer some pretty serious performance losses.
    Best regards, Oliver

  • Mac Pro and Airport Extreme Card

I have a new mac pro and installed the airport extreme card. I cannot see my network but the system tells me the card is on. Any suggestions? I can connect with a direct ethernet connection.

I bought a mac pro last year and went for the wireless option with it. You know the upgrade. Anyway it came as a seperate item and i had to install it myself. It doesn't look anything like the one pictured here, well it just doesn't have a cover like it. So anyway i can't pick up any outside networks and when i share the internet connection with it i have to put my psp right next to the case to get a profoundly amazing 12% signal, Any ideas?

I have a new MacBook Pro and running Windows 7 on that side with Parallels.  My Windows side keeps locking up.  Help

You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1.  Downloading the programs does not require a serial number.  You can find them here:  Download CS3 products  but you will need the serial number to activate the programs.  You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version.  Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)
