I have snow leopard 10.6.3 and want to upgrade so I can use Icloud. What do I need to do?

    Taken from Apple Website....
    OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, available on the Apple Online Store
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
If your Mac does not meet these requirements, you will need to  upgrade your Mac before installing Lion.
In other words, FIRST UPDATE your system to 10.6.8.... 10.6.8 will install the MAC APP STORE on your computer.. SECOND.... Buy Lion from MAC APP STORE (you may need to  create an Apple Login and Password). THIRD... Launch the LION installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Made sure to install ONLY THE COMPONENTS, don't ERASE your system before install. This way you don't lose your data (pictures, music, documents, etc.)

Snow Leopard OS 10.6 is not available via Software Update, it is paid upgrade.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

I have QT Pro 7.6.6 and want to delete all audio (5 tracks) from a selected in-out section of a .mov file. Then, add new audio. How do I do that?

If I 1) knew TeX well enough to fix it, and 2) could get the guy to answer the phone or email so as to give me the sourcecode or to fix it himself, I wouldn't have bothered figuring out that the thing could be fixed one page at a time by a) getting a copy of acrobat pro, b) figuring out how to turn on all of the extra toolkits, c) finding the edit object button in randomly named toolkit, d) right clicking on the chapter title and selecting the e) ever so obvious "delete clip" menu selection.
At this point I would absolutely love to never have to touch an adobe product again in my life, but my hand has been dealt and if I'm going to print the manual for a software library that we've spent a cumulative $70,000 for, I have to figure this out and I really don't want to have to hit [Page Down], [Ctrl] + [A], Right click, delete clip for >700 pages.
I felt certain that once I'd figured out how to shift the pages down using ghostscript so first two lines of each page weren't getting cut off in the printer non-printable region, and finally figured out this that a relatively simple scripting solution would be immediately apparant.  I mean, there are APIs for both applescript and javascript, but I'm mystified by how to get to the edit object feature from within them, much less how to tell that feature to delete clips for everything on a page.

  • I have a 10.6.8 OS and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but when I try the applications tells me my computer can't support it

I have a 10.6.8 OS and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but when I try the applications tells me my computer can't support it. What does that mean. I have upgraded to Snow Leopard and was told (by Mac Store) that after that I would be able to update to Mountain Lion.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You need 10.6.8 to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but it doesn't mean that your computer is compatible. Mountain Lion is compatible with Late 2008 Aluminum or Early 2009 MacBooks. If you have an older one, you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
If you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion, open  > About this Mac, and tell me what processor and memory you have got. If you have a Intel Core 2 Duo or newer processor, you can upgrade to Lion. Call Apple to purchase Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Make a backup of your files before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

I have elements 11 on my mac and want to upgrade to elements 13 but it seems that the elements 13 upgrade is only for windows.  Is there a mac edition to this upgrade?

Yes, certainly, but if you're in the US I would just download the trial and use that for now, since there will be plenty of deals on the full version come the start of the holiday shopping season, especially at places like amazon and big box stores. Usually for much less than adobe's upgrade price.

I have a Mac Pro 1.1 and want to add one or two HD displays or HDTVs to my computer. I do a lot of work with Photoshop and need a larger work area.
What do I need to up grade my computer? Which displays and or HDTV's might be the most cost effective to get?

Disk drive using native SATA bus interface will allow the drive to copy and always present and ready.
But once you have backup any hourly changes should be smaller and as long as the NAS and your switch should allow enough.
You should always have off line backups and don't rely on just one backup set or just TimeMachine.
WD RED models are designed for RAID and NAS and 7.2k instead of your more standard slower green 5400 rpm green models while still costing less than WD Blacks.

  • We have an Apple 9 and 10 operating system and want to get rid of the 9 how do we do that?

We have a power mac G4 with Operating Systems 10.3 on it and 9.0 and want to get rid of the 9.0 and only upgrade the 10.3 to Snow Leopard is that possible and what do we do? Does this mean when we bought this did they partition the drive, do we need to undo something to make this work properly?
    Julie Reid

An alternate method is to just throw away the OS 9 System Folder (not the folder named System - that's OSX), and throw away the OS 9-only apps you might have.
Since it is OS 9.0, it can not be used as Classic - and so there should be no hooks to Classic in OSX that might prevent a casual removal via the Trash.
If OS 9 is on its own partition (the default is everyhting on one volume (partition), but any folks who have both OS's have placed OS 9 on its own partition), then you can erase just that partition.
    Additional issue -
You mentioned installing Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6). Since you have a PowerMac, that's not possible. Snow Leopard will run only on machines having an Intel processor, which no PowerMac (or any machine capable of using OS 9) has.
Depending on other criteria, your machine may not even be suitable for Leopard (OSX 10.5). There are some minimum requirements that must be met - primarily a CPU (machine) speed of 867MHz (no stock machine capable of boooting to OS 9.0 has a processor that fast), plus some minimums with regard to RAM and available hard drive space.
The full specs for Leopard are shown in this Apple KBase article -

  • I have a 500gb running my computer and want to upgrade to a 1000gb how can i do this?

I would like to upgrade my 500 gb to a 1000gb HD which will run my apple Mac pro 2009 Tower.
Iam confident in changing HDs but wondering how to put all the operating software onto a new HD.
    Many thanks,
    Mac

The way the forums work, WE help solve and is reflected in points.
Glad we helped and hope maybe changed the direction you end up taking with your upgrades.
ce (SSD drive or hard drive) you are migrating to should be physically located in the same computer.  Moving operating system files from one computer to another computer using software not specifically designed for that computer can cause issues due to software, hardware, and firmware version mismatches.
Always back up your storage device with Time Machine or Disk Utility before you start.

The old slower SATA II's bandwidth has gotten to be a choke point.
Having all your files on one drive is an even bigger limiting factor.
Isolating system from your media libraries and data, from any scratch drive, helps.
Moving some of those off to another bus, one of the PCIe slots, takes advantage of additional bandwidth available (and probably going to waste currently).
You may have noticed all the newest Macs and future Mac Pro. moving to PCIe SSDs and no longer using even SATA III. Anything you can do now in that regard will help. iPhoto, separate from "Pictures" folder on another high-speed device, or Aperture, and also Lightroom,  as well as  CS6 scratch space.
That also means you aren't limited to 4 SATA drives or devices, and you should be using those 4 already for system, data, backup, media files.
It does  make a difference. It did with my 7 yr old Mac Pro 1,1. that and more RAM, retire older disk drives for newest models, and probably the last GPU  mine can make use of , the ATI 5770 (replaced the Nvidia 8800GT that cost even more).

  • I have an original version of the IPad.  Can this be updated or is it no longer supported.  Do I need to buy an new IPad?  This one still works great!

Is the original IPad still able to be updated?

If your original iPad does everything you want it to do there is no need for you to purchase a new iPad. But if you find there are apps you want to use that are not available to you because the iOS on your iPad is too low then, yes, a new iPad would solve that problem.

  • I have a prepaid plan with verizion and want to switch my phone to an I Phone. Can that be done

Am I simply at a loss here or is there anything I can do? Please help if you can!
