I have an iPhone 4 and my iMessage completely stops working.

My iMessage has been giving me problems for the last four months. It does all of the following at different times when sending/receiving an iMessage:
- It sends my texts as an email or through my Apple ID email address to the recipient
- It doesnt send and then forces it through a text message
- I dont receive ANY messages from anyone
Also, my keyboard freezes or does not appear when I go to a text message, so I reset my phone to bring it back.
Took my phone to Apple and they did their thing and said it should be fine, but did not work at all. Anybody else experiencing the same thing?

Apple has acknowledged a problem and is working on a fix. Watch for an update. For now, if you go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings usually will fix it. It will not affect your data, but will erase wifi passwords. Also, remember that both the sender and receiver have to have an active data connection for iMessage to work. If the connection gets lost or degrades, then it could change over to send as a SMS. If you have a limited plan, then to into Settings>Messages>Send as SMS, and turn that off.

Please can you clarify what won't switch on, the WiFi or phone?
If it's the phone and have recently run out of battery, plug it into a charger, and wait 5 minutes before trying to switch it back on again; iPhones, if they run out of battery when plugged in again sometimes take a short while to turn on.
To connect to a WiFi you will need access to the network key, may also be called the WEP key. This can commonly be found on the bottom of your router or on a seperate card that came with it.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
It might also be a good idea to contact Square for assistance.

Go to settings/music/volume limit tap on that. Make sure it is set to OFF and when you tap it that the slider is at max

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

I am having the same problem. I am not able to load ESPN or any of its affiliated apps. I also tried craigslist and ebay using safari and no luck. I tried contacting ESPN and they told me to contact AT&T. So I have been chatting with an AT&T rep for about an hour and haven't had any luck. Some friends who also have AT&T are having the same problems, while those with Verizon are working fine. I'm from the St. Louis are if that's any help.

Yes iMessage was barely working before (resetting network settings is what got it sort of working), but after 7.0.3, it's more broken than ever. I can't send ANY texts to iMessage users, even if iMessage is shut off. I tried resetting, I also tried resetting network settings again, but nothing has helped. It won't let me activate it.
FindMyFriends keeps giving me a prompt to connect to iTunes. And no matter how many time i click OK, it just keeps popping up. I have to try to click my way out of it faster than the prompt appears, or i just get stuck in an endless loop. And with how slow iOS 7 is on an iPhone 4, it's a bit if a challenge.
This is the first time I'm actually ready to start looking at other phones, these problem have been BEYOND frustrating.

I would call Apple tech support, which is excellent. Or take the phone to your local Apple store - not AT&T or Verizon, as the Apple techs specialize in Apple products and are somewhat fanatical about them.
Regarding the photos, they are probably still on the simm card in the phone and recoverable. Check with the Apple folks to get them back... sorry about your pet!

I can send it as a text message but I can't send a picture thru iMessage and it just started happening. I have tried resetting the network settings, turning iMessage on and off, turning facetime on and off, turning the network on and off, I turned the phone on and off, I held the lock button and home button then turned it back on, I turned SMS/MMS on and off, I updated my roaming capabilities with Verizon, I deleted the threads of messages and sending different pictures thinking it was the picture itself but nothing has worked.....any suggestions??

Settings > Messages > Receive At > Apple ID.
Select your Apple ID and at the menu window that appears, select Sign Out.
Follow this by signing back in with your Apple ID to see if this makes any difference.

what is the serial number? Phones bought in some Arab countries hav facetime disabled because of government regulations. Is facetime enabled in settings/facetime and settings/general/restrictions?

I upgraded from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 6 and now iMessage isn't working

I just went from an iPhone 5 to and iPhone 6. Maybe I activated it wrong? I followed the steps and put the SIM card from my 5 into the 6. I've turned off iMessage and facetime on the 5 however I can't recieve any iMessages. Sometimes I can send iMessages and sometimes i can't

Thank you trying those steps out. i want to you to review a few things on the phone. Is you Cellular data turn on? Settings>Cellular Data should be green When you access "Messages" in settings, are you able to turn '"iMessage" on and off? Provide us more details to resolve this today.

Your WiFi chip has failed. You'll need to bring your phone (and $199 if you're outside your warranty period) to Apple for replacement.

Are you and your wife sharing apple id?
If you are that is the reason why she is seeing your imessage.
On both phone go to settings - message - send&receive - make sure the cell is the default.
You will have to uncheck or remove the apple id.
