I have an iPod Touch 4G with ios 5.0.1. how do I upgrade to ios 5.1.1?
I just receive it as a refurb, bought from the Apple store. (Actually, I was surprised that it was loaded with an OS two to three steps down.) iTunes keeps trying to bump me up to 6.0.1. Iv'e heard that I should wait until the bugs are exterminated before I take that leap. Which leaves me the 5.1.1 problem. How to do it without "alternative" methods? I have some apps that I mistakely bought (thought I was 5.1.1 and was surprised to find otherwise.) Anyway, I can't use them with out being at least 5.5.1. Help!! (Please!)
Apple only supports going to iOS 6.0.1. That is all I can say in this Apple forum.

Yes. get a computer with iTune 10.5 and:
- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other stuff using a third-party program like one of those discussed here. Most are good for music. It is harder to find one for other stuff like synced photos.

- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up
- Restore the iPod from backup and sync as neccessary. -

Hi, I have an iPod touch 2G with an iOS of 4.2.1 and there are no updates available for my device, I want to download an older version of iBooks that is compatible with my device. Pls what can I do?
- The 2G iPod can only go as high as iOS 4.2.1. It does not have the hardware to support a higher iOS version.
- Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
- You can only download the current version from the App store. -

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:

It sounds like you may have a 2nd generation iPod. If so, it can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1. The Apps you are trying to load are compatible with a higher version of the iOS.

Hi, has anyone experienced issues with there volume control icon randomly popping up after upgrading to ios 6.1 from 6.0 .
I have a 4th gen ipod touch which until upgrading to 6.1 from 6.0 was working perfectly.
Minutes after the upgrade I noticed the volume icon just popping up for no reason. I can turn the volume up now, but not down and it randomly appears on screen without anyone touching it. Weird! Can someone shed some light on this issue,I have reset and reloaded to factory several times now to no avail.
thanks!I am having this same issue on my iPhone 4. The most recent update to iOS 6.1 didn't fix it either. Has anyone found a fix for this problem? It doesn't happen often, maybe every third day or so but requires power off, power on to bring the sound back.

No, you have to update to iOS 5 via iTunes/USB. One you get iOS you can further update via wifi. -

sorry for my bad english..It is not possible to update the iOS to any version besides the most recent version. You can only update to iOS 5.1 at the time.
