I suspect you have the original, 1G iPod touch. Those can only go as high as iOS 3.1.3,
If y ohave a 2G those can go as high as 4.2.1

Media and apps are not part of the backup. They need to be re-synced from your itunes library or re-downloaded from the store.

The new cable is completely new, and my computer can detect the phone as a drive, and battery charging is ok. So I believe the USB cable works properly. It is so weird that just iTune itself cannot detect the phone, and it is of the most updated version. What else can I do? Thanks.

Since your device is so new, I can state categorically that this an issue with configuration. Delete the account that doesn't work, and enter the information anew.
If you're still having problems, check that your email address and password are correct, and if possible, verify it by checking your ISP's settings.

Backing up to DVDs is a time-wasting exercise and doesn't provide you with a bootable alternative. I suggest that you invest in an ext FWHD and use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to put a bootable backup/clone onto it. BTW, don't let the recall notice scare you into getting it replaced immediately. If there's nothing wrong with the HD, prepare for getting it replaced, but only after you've followed all the steps outlined above. FWIW, if you're within 50 miles of an Apple repair station, they most likely will do an onsite repair since it's a desktop machine.

My browser toolbar keeps defaulting to Ask instead of Google. Have deleted it, moved it and everytime I reboot there it is. How can I remove or set Google as default?

I am running Win7. On my screen, there is a field that lists the browsers available. The default seems to be Ask with the others listed, about 5. There is a button to move them according to preference so I move Google up to the top. Then there is also a button to Remove the ones I don't want to use. I have tried both of those and everytime I reboot or open up the Mozilla browser page it defauts back to Ask. How can I stop this from happening. Did read there is a workaround but not sure that is what I should do

On the left side, click Extensions. Then read down the list. Usually the active ones are listed first, then the inactive ones.
If the add-on can't be removed there, you may have to go to the Windows Add/Remove Programs control panel.

I have a Canadian apple ID and password andhave used ITunes cards in the past when in Canada to purchase music and download to my computer. I reside in the U.S. for several months each winter and just purchased an ITunes card here in Arizona. When I tried to purchase music on the Itunes store it would not accept the ITunes card as it said it was associated with a Canadian account. If I open an account on the U.S. itunes store and download music to my computer will I still be able to transfer that music to my Iphone without losing any of my existing music??? ?Thanks for your replies. To check for firmware updates on your Nokia C7, either use SW Update on the phone itself, or connect your phone to your computer and use Nokia Suite to check for updates.

If no firmware updates are available for your device, this may be due to the fact that your handset may be branded (e.g. Vodafone customisations and Vodafone applications), or a country variant (i.e. where Nokia has released the generic firmware, but it is up to your local country's Nokia to add their own requirements/custom apps etc and then push the update to you). If you appear to have a branded handset, your best bet is to contact your local network provider directly, and ask about the availability of updates. If you don't have a firmware update available otherwise, then contact your local Nokia Care point directly and ask them.
