I have lost a document by failing to save - any chance of finding it?

I have just spent a half hour plus typing a letter in Pages - I seem not tohave saved it - is there any way I can retrieve it?

Chalk it up to experience, Clive, and adopt this procedure that I recommended to my Grade 4 and Five students when I was teaching:
When starting a new document:
Open the new document.
Immediately, before you do anything else, press command-S, give the new document a name, Select a location to Save it, then click Save.
Now you're ready to start writing.
There were two further instructions:
If you pause to think, or to talk with someone, press command-S to save what you've got.
If you get up, press command-S before you leave the keyboard.
With Lion, and its built-in Versions feature, those last two shouldn't be necessary.

Thanks petermac87...but for some reason, the only purchases showing are OS. So assuming iPhoto is in Mountain Lion, I was hoping to look under Hidden Items there as you suggested, but there is no option for that. Only option is to download Mountain Lion again, not iPhoto specifically. Any ideas welcome!

With your machine you should have received a couple of disks, one of which has application software or even a separate iLife disk...use that to reinstall the iLife software and update from there.

Everything is Sorted!
The release of iTunes 11.0.2 and iOS 6.1.2 for my iPhone 4, seems to have sorted everything. I can now sync music, films and photos between my MacBook and my phone.
I was dubious about blindly doing the updates but decided they couldn't really mess up any further functionality so I went for it and it's sorted now.
Look in to, and take the gamble, it's up to you.

There is no 'Save as' in Lion. If it's a new document then select File -> Save will bring up a standard 'Save' dialog box which will allow you to specify the location. Otherwise select File -> Duplicate and then save the duplicate.

If you set up "find my iphone" and it is powered on with an internet connection you can go to icloud.com and use find my iphone there or on another iOS device download the Find my iPhone app.

In order for a lost iPhone to be located you have to have set 'Find My iPhone' up on it before losing it, and it has to be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network (how else could it transmit its location) - if any of these conditions is not true then locating it is not possible. You can't use the serial number or IMEI number to locate a phone: the former is only useful to identify it as yours if it turns up, and the latter can be used by most service providers to block it, rendering it useless and preventing anyone from spending your credit.

It is possible that you forgot to add a file extension (.json) while saving and in that case you may be looking for the wrong file.
Also make sure that you search for hidden files and folder in case the file was saved in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
Firefox won't import the file without a .json file extension ("Can't process ..."), but you can create a backup with any name.
