I have several questions: 1. When I connect my Iphone using Wi-Fi what can I then do? Why won't my Iphone recognize my home network run off of Airport Extreme, and the app Nike Ipod sensor never activates.
I went to Starbucks this morning and my Wi-Fi on my Verizon Iphone connected, what does this allow me to do? My Wi-Fi does not recognize my home network from which I connect wirelessly to my MacBookPro and to my Apple TV using Airport Extreme router, why? Lastly, what do about the app NIke + Ipod not working. The sensor does not activate even after walking a half mile.
It might be best to ask only one question in each post otherwise you may never be able to mark them as solved.

Try restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). It may not be properly assigning an IP address to your iPhone.

Things to try:
Try resetting your phone (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears. When you see the Apple logo let go of both buttons and your iPhone will reboot.
Try a new sync cable (often the problem)
Make sure you phone is adequately charged
Make sure you are using latest version of iTunes -

What's the real difference between the airport extreme and the airport express except for the price and the size? Does one transmit with more range?
Range is about the same, maybe a bit better on the Extreme, which has better antennas.
The AirPort Exreme has Gigabit (1,000 Mpbs) Ethernet ports and the USB port will support a hard drive.
The Express has 10/100 (up to 100 Mpbs) Ethernet ports, and will not support a hard drive at the USB port.
The Express has audio capability for AirTunes while the Extreme does not.
If you don't need to connect a hard drive and don't need the faster Ethernet ports, the Express is a good value.

This should mean a fairly significant increase in range with the new model. I would imagine these changes would be consistent with the Time Capsule as well. -
When I connect my iphone to my Mac it does not appear in itunes and wont sync.
When I connect my iphone to my Mac the iphoto app opens and nothing else happens!
When I open Itunes (or even finder) the phone is not recognized at all and does not appear.
I can't sync anything.
Help!I've just done this.
One user suggested restarting the iphone in recovery mode. I have just tried this and have got an error message - "The iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1611).
My phone won't work at all now.

Having purchased a Airport Express to extend my network the airport utility would not recognise it .....so tried to delete current settings and reinstall Extreme and express . Now it says that because of Maverick i cant reinstall the extreme ...very frustrating ...
What are the respective model numbers of your AirPort Extreme and Express? Examine their cases for a four digit number preceded by the letter A.

Setup a wired network between Time Capsule, Airport Extreme and Express
I currently have a Time Capsule, Airport Extreme N and an Airport Express N. They are currently connected wirelessly via the "extend network" mode. So I do have wireless connection throughout my home but I notice that it is slow especially compared to gigabit Ethernet. I now like to do the same but then connect the three devices over Ethernet as I have on each floor also Ethernet connections available that are connected via a wired switch.
How can I configure the three devices in such a way that they use the gigabit Ethernet wired connections as their "backbone" and then give wireless access to each floor as if it is one wireless network, and where I can connect other wired gigabit devices via the time capsule and airport extreme Ethernet ports?
I have one Internet connection that comes via Ethernet from my cable modem. This is now connected to my time capsule who creates the internal network and assigns internal IP addresses.
Can anybody advise how to configure each device? And to which ethernet port I should Airport Extreme?

You will be setting up what is known as a "roaming" network using the etherent backbone for your network. This will produce the best possible bandwidth on your network for both ethernet and wireless connections.
_On the Time Capsule_
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Remove the check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended" (This is only checked if you are extending your network using wireless only and you will be using ethernet to connect your devices, not wireless).
Update to save changes and the Time Capsule configuration is complete.
_On the AirPort Extreme_
Connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to your ethernet switch. Then connect another ethernet connection from the switch to the WAN (circle icon) port on the AirPort Extreme.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network (Not extend as you might think. Extend is only used if the Time Capsule and AirPort Express are connecting using wireless only)
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as your AirPort Extreme wireless network
Radio Mode = Same setting as your AirPort Extreme
Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as your AirPort Extreme wireless network
Wireless Password = Same password as your AirPort Extreme wireless
Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save changes and configuration is complete
_On the AirPort Express_
You can connect an ethernet cable from the switch..or..from one of the LAN <-> ports on either the Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme, whichever is easier.
Set it up exactly the same as the AirPort Extreme above and update to save changes.
Power off the Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express for a few moments. Then power up the Time Capsule first and let it run a moment, then power up the AirPort Extreme and then the AirPort Express.
If you have a laptop running Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can move your computer around and check to see which device it is connecting to for wireless. Hold down the option key while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen and look for the BSSID. That is the AirPort ID of the device to which you are connected at the time.
To get the AirPort ID of each of your Apple routers, open AirPort Utility and click on a device on the left. On the right, you'll see the AirPort ID for that device.
For ethernet connections, you can plug into an available port on the switch, the Time Capsule, or the AirPort Extreme.
You should be all set. Please post back on your progress. -

I connected my airport extreme directly to the Lacie mini and the fan on the mini never shuts off because it never gets to go into sleep mode. Besides letting shutting it off completely is there a way that the airport can have a direct energy saver so the hard drive does not lose life through the time it is on and spinning? Apple should look into this kind of app since they are trying to be as green as possible. I do not want to have to buy a mac mini to just run the energy save on board the OS there. Is there a patch of fix for this, I looked in the airport utility and there is nothing there so am I missing something?

Nope. No patch. Your only choice is call Apple Support (you have 90 days to do so for free from the date you purchased the AEBSn), and report the problem. -
My Atv2 is very slow with both AirPlay and rented and purchased content I spoke to apple rep and tried the things he suggested but the problem persists. Now it requires more lead time then the lenght of material being viewed. I haves broadband internet connection and airport extreme router so I don't think this should be a problem. Lately every time the unit goes to the screen saver an error message come up saying there was an error while loading content please try again later and you have to all over again. It is extremely frustrating. Any suggestions? What speed of transfer should I expect using AirPlay ?
I'm having the same issue. Ay fixes? Bought ATV today, music streams but videos don't and mirroring doesn't work either. Start mirror and severe lag then just drops. Been trying for couple hours. About ready to return it.

My iphone 4S is not able to connect to my home wifi network (BSNL). It does detect it and even tries to connect to it but in vain. However, it connects to all other available networks easily. Another interesting thing is that all other devices including an iphone 4 easily connects to this home network. So what is the problem with iphone 4S???
There are two ends to a wireless network. Try rebooting your router. Just pull the power for a few seconds and replug. No settings are lost.
(The fact that all your other devices connect to the internet is irrelevant) -

I have an Airport Extreme I purchased in 2008. It has a flat top. Are the new models of Airport Extreme any improvement?
Your model is able to produce a 2.4 GHz wireless network....OR.....a 5 GHz wireless network, but not both at the same time.
Generation 2 through 5 of the AirPort Extreme feature simultaneous dual band operation, so both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network are produced at the same time. Your newer faster devices will connect to the 5 GHz band and the older slower, or mobile devices like an iPhone will connect to the slower 2.4 GHz band.
This way, the slower devices will not slow down the faster devices as they normally would on a single band router like your Generation 1 model.
In addition, Generation 2 through 5 also have a Guest Network feature, which allows you to set up a separate network just for "guests'. This way, the guests can connect to the Internet, but they cannot "see" any of the devices on your "main" or private network.
The latest Generation 5 model incorporates a new antenna design which seems to provide better range and signal penetration as well. -
I have already tried turning the power off and back on, holding the home and power button for ten seconds and shutting it off that way, and disconnecting from the wifi. None if those fixed the problem. However, resetting all of the settings did actually fix this issue, but then when I turn the ipod off and on again the issue is back. I don't want to have to keep resetting the settings on a daily basis, so what else can I do to fix this bug? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
