I just got a new Windows tablet. I set up Home Sharing between it and my desktop Mac but I can't seem to get playlists from my desktop into the tablet. Can I do this by plugging my tablet into my desktop via a USB cable?

I just got an HP Stream 8 tablet with Windows on it. I have a Mac desktop running 10.6.8. I set up Home Sharing by making sure both had the same version of iTunes and I authorized the new tablet (desktop already was). (I haven't exceeded the number of authorized computers.) I would like to take some of the playlists I have on my desktop Mac and copy them into iTunes on the tablet. I hooked up the tablet to my desktop with a USB cable but wasn't able to get it to copy. I do not have WIFI....is there a way to do this by just having the tablet hooked up via the USB cable? If so, can someone please talk me through the steps necessary to do that? Thanks!

Did you erase the machine and set it up with your accounts or is the previous user still on it?

Hi,
This is how App Store app shows now when an app is downloading. If you cannot download anything, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store, remove your Apple ID, and set it again. That should work.

I meant that I sign out, sign back in ok. Ergo, I know my password. Someone here on the support page (you?) told me the culprit is the 2 step verification process which I had on. That makes a lot of sense as Apple mail won't get a code thereby jamming up the process. I could not even start a new account until I took that 2 step process off. Everything fine now thank you.

You don't share content from AppleTV (as it contains no content) and you can AirpPlay from iPad to AppleTV, not share content.
To turn on Home Sharing on the iPad, Settings > Store.
THis allow soyu to view the content of the iTune slibrary on your comnoputer.

When you plug your iPhone to Mac,click the Summary button and select “Manually manage music and videos".Then iTunes would never delete your original music.

Everytime I hook up my iphone 5 to itunes it says it wont recognize my phone and that I need to restore it. I just got a new phone two days ago due to a hardware issue and got it home tried to put my music on it and had to restore it.

Try switching your simcards. (Get a paperclip, stick it in the side where there's a hole inside of an oblong oval. Then a little tray should pop out. If not, try harder.) Keep track of which sim card's which and which direction each sim card is placed into the tray. Put her sim card in your phone and your's in her phone. If that doesn't work contact your provider.

I recently up-graded to Firefox 4.0 and now I have lost all of my settings at the top of the page. I need my hotmail and muy bookmarks etc back like they were. I no longer have aol but can't seem to get away from it. Help....Marilyn

Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(

Can't seem to get VPN to work ... how difficult can it be?

Okay. I'm a Mac IT professional, but have never had the need to do VPN for a client until now. The client has a Mac Pro server running 10.5.6 Server Unlimited. The router is a brand-new Apple Airport Extreme base station doing DHCP and NAT from 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.200. The server is set to 10.0.0.250 and the base station is forwarding all inbound traffic to the server at 10.0.0.250 (DMZ). Access from the outside for AFP, ScreenSharing, Server Admin, Workgroup Manager, etc -- all working.
The server has a domain name of "server.client.com" and the server is running Open Directory, Kerberos is running, and all DNS info seems correct.
When I turned on VPN, I enabled L2TP over IPsec and entered 10.0.0.201 as the beginning address and 10.0.0.210 as the ending address since they are out of the DHCP scope of the Airport Base Station. I also tried 10.0.1.201 to 10.0.1.210. I have PPP Authentication set to MS-CHAPv2 and on my client computer (MacBook Pro running 10.5.6) I configured the client authentication to "password". I've confirmed that I'm entering the correct password, and I've also tried Kerberos authentication. I will point out, however, that when I open Kerberos Utility on my client workstation, it is unable to get a Kerberos ticket from the server. Not sure why. I know I've typed the "shared secret" correctly on both computers because I'm just using a simple word for now while configuring and testing the service.
I've tried turning off the firewall just to be sure that it's not blocking my connection.
When I look at the Overview tab for VPN, it shows that L2TP is running. When I look at the log for VPN service on the server, it doesn't show anything.
Apple's tech specs on the base station in question list compatibility for VPN with the following info "NAT, DHCP, PPPoE, VPN Passthrough (IPSec, PPTP, and L2TP), DNS Proxy, SNMP, IPv6 (6to4 and manual tunnels)"
Does the server need to be running DHCP in order for VPN to work? And if so, can I continue to have the Airport Base Station do DHCP if the server is doing it? If the server needs to run DHCP, I'd prefer to have it run DHCP just for the VPN clients and not the rest of the network.
Am I missing something?

Does your server have only one interface?
I've never seen the VPN software work in this configuration. Usually you have one public interface (where VPN clients connect to) and a separate internal interface (where the secured systems are).
I don't know if it's possible to run in this way given that all incoming VPN connections will appear to come from a LAN address (thanks to the NAT router), and you wouldn't normally have a LAN client connect via VPN to the server to talk to devices on the same LAN.

That doesn't matter - it relates to OUTgoing connections from clients on the LAN to remote VPN servers, not incoming connections.
The other place to look is in the router - make sure the relevant ports are being forwarded to the server. If all ports are (as you say) then this might not be an issue (although I seriously question the sanity of running your network this way).
You should also run a tcpdump on the server looking for traffic from the client. That will tell you whether the connection is even getting to the server.

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
