I just updated my software and spotlights appear from the bottom of the screen.  Two hours later I came back to the computer and they were gone.  any thoughts?

I just updated my software and spotlights appeared evenly across the bottom of the screen.  I left the computer for a couple of hours and when I returned they were gone.  Any thoughts?
