OK, OSX can read that but not write, but...
A few options...
You could format that HDD as Fat32/MS-DOS, but you'd be limited to 4 GB Filesizes.

OS X Lion could be purchased from the Mac App Store (and now, at the Apple Online Store). Once you purchase it, you can download it as many times as you want for free.
Open  > Software Update, and install the most recent Mac OS X version. It should be Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer. Then, open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases, log in with your Apple ID and download OS X Lion. Make a backup before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
You can upgrade to OS X Mavericks from Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer without any problem, so upgrading to OS X Lion first is a waste of time. Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks

I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. Firefox has always opened with an extra tab that says "server not found." How can I fix this?

Several years ago, I downloaded Firefox for the first time on my Xp machine. The browser opens to the home page, but up in the tab area, there is always, and I mean through EVERY version and upgrade since that first one, including the most recent version 4, there is a second tab just to the right of the home page tab that says, "server not found." Now, since the home page loaded, it is obvious to me that the server WAS indeed "found." what I don't understand is why this second tab is there. Any ideas? I have read through the FAQ about not finding the server, and nothing there is relevant to this, as far as I can see.

"Times" font not found. How do I fix this?

Hey folks, it's me with another epic font problem.
Windows XP environment, running Adobe Technical Communication Suite with Framemaker 8 and Acrobat 8 3D.
Ever since upgrading to versions 8, we get this error when we make a PDF from Framemaker:

The "Times" Font is not available.
It will be replaced by "Times New Roman".

Here's the weird stuff:
- If the PDF is made via "Print to file" then distill the .ps file, the error does not show up.
- If the PDF is made via "Save as PDF" the error appears in the Framemaker console, but ONLY when Distiller starts processing the files (as in, the unavailable font error does not appear when you simply OPEN the file; it only shows up once you start PDFing).
- In EITHER CASE, the PDF seems to work, and we can print it on our local printer. But when we send it to the print shop the big high-speed super powerful industrial size printer won't accept the job due to missing font files, so printing FAILS.
A bit more:
- I've noticed that if I set Framemaker to NOT remember missing font names, and I open the files, PDF them, save and close the files, then open them again and PDF them a second time, then the problem disappears. I don't get the console message and the print shop can print the books from the SECOND PDF. But this is TEDIOUS and I would think unnecessary. Also, it doesn't seem like the fix is permanent. (The Times thing seems to creep back in somehow.)
Surely there is a better way. Note that none of us has a font on our system called simply "Times," so I don't even know where that's coming from.
Any ideas?

Mike, I realize that we are getting into more of a Framemaker realm than Acrobat at this point (although I still think that this is an Acrobat problem), but is it possible to specify that Adobe PDF is the default printer ONLY when working in Framemaker? After all, we do other work here, and print to our default laser printer all the time.

Icuin36.dll was not found. How do I fix this error?

I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime together and again separately. I have tried to locate and replace the icuin36.dll file but windows just adds a new error message about not recognizing the image. I am back to the error noted in the title here.
In addition, iTunes will not recognize my Nano (3rd generation). I am pretty sure it's because of the Sync file.
The error appears with the error titled "AppleSyncNotifier.exe - Unable to locate component".
Can anyone here offer a new way to eliminate the error message?

It can be an Apple Application Support dll ... but other applications can install it too. I believe that Apple Application Support 1.1.0 moved to having an icuin40.dll instead of an icuin36.dll. So if you've got an iTunes 9.3.0.15 installed, it's a bit odd for it to be asking for an icuin36.dll.
When you searched for your icuin36.dll, what were the locations you found it in?

I think I fixed this problem a few years ago by literally copying and pasting all my audio content into the iTunes library folder. I can't remember what is called of the top of my head and I don't know if this will still work.

A: Core2Duo, Core i3, i5, i7, and Xeon Intel CPUs with 2 GB of RAM in a Macintosh computer with 2 GB of RAM, and 4 GB (7 GB after installed) for downloading from the Mac App Store (Available in 10.6.6 and later). Unofficially, past upgrades have arbitrarily also required an additional 15% of the hard drive to be free for data.
Q: What applications are compatible with Lion?

Many of these compatibility entries came from before Lion's release. Please verify they are correct now that it has been released, and help edit it for more accurate data. Be sure to include any update version of Lion post release that you have found is or is not compatible with it, for the help of others who may be upgrading to Lion the first time. Additionally, as it was released, there is no Rosetta. This means any application that is stated to be PowerPC in the System Profiler, will not work with Lion, and needs a comparable application or upgrade to be compatible. Intel and Universal applications are on the whole supported, though may still need some tweaking before every feature is compatible.
Q: Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?
A: With all upgrades, backing up your data at least twice has been a given. Hardware can fail independently of downloads and upgrades, though may happen simultaneously. Software may be found to be incompatible that has not been tested with the new upgrade, or combination of other software that might be installed with the upgrade. It is also strongly recommended once your backup is complete, to shut down your computer, remove all but Apple wired keyboard and mouse (notebooks remove all input devices). Then once done, reboot, and go directly to the upgrade distribution system available. Third party system tools, modification, and "maintenance" applications should be verified as compatible, or removed until known to be compatible. Check with developers how to remove if it is essential to use Lion before those applications become compatible. Most "maintenance" tools that deal with system cache, prebinding, are not really maintenance tools. Ask on forum when are the appropriate times to use them before assuming they should be used for upgrades or otherwise.

Remember the retail 10.6 currently does not include the App Store, and those upgrading from 10.5.8 or earlier will need to both buy the retail 10.6, and download the combo 10.6.6 update, not to mention ensure they have the correct processor and 2 GB of RAM. Finally once it is available, you'll have find out how long approximately it takes to install after the download is complete.
These times do not include installation time, which on a MacBook Pro 3,1 15" installing on a Firewire 800 Newertech Voyager with WD10ACS-322J80 drive, 10.6.7, took 1 hour and a half to complete the installation from double clicking the install command to the registration screen. These times may vary by connection speeds from a non-dedicated connection, or background application usage of the internet. Any applications running when the installation process begins might interfere with the installation itself, and they should be quit first.
The installer just before it starts has in its package contents an InstallESD.dmg file a DVD burnable image to install on additional computers in the home without downloading over again. So if you desire to reinstall without an extra internet download, extract that file, by selecting the installer in the dock, and control-clicking it, and revealing it in the Finder. Next Control-mouse click it, and select show package contents. Inside that folder is a Shared Support folder. That's where you find the DMG.

I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. That's a problem that all users of a second-hand Mac released after the OS X Lion launch have. OS X, iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are registered to the Apple ID the first owner used to register the computer, so you can't use them legally without repurchasing them. Furthermore, there's a bigger problem: you have to get iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand on a DVD, because the App Store makes impossible to purchase these applications on a second-hand Mac.
Nothing will happen if they are already installed, but you won't be able to reinstall and update them, so I recommend you to delete them and buy iLife '11 on a DVD to install the applications from there. Also, take note that you can't also reinstall OS X, so if OS X gets damaged, you will have to take your computer to an Apple Store.
Open  > About this Mac, and tell us the OS X version you have. If you are using OS X Lion, you can upgrade to Mountain Lion with your Apple ID, so then you will be able to reinstall OS X
