I purchased a song on my ipod and it is not on my computer library to put onto my phone

I just got an iphone.  I was trying to get my songs onto the iphone from the itunes library.  Several of my purchased songs will not transfer.  They are ON my ipod where I purchased them.
They show on my library, but say the item is missing and asks if I want to locate it.
They show as purchased when I go under my itunes id.
They do not have a download link on itunes store library, showing as if I have not purchased them
When I try to RE PURCHASE, I get a warning that i have already purchased it and should download the item instead.  THE DOWNLOAD LINK IS NOT THERE.
I have tried to sync my ipod several times, and it seems to go through the whole process and skip these several songs
I get a notice that thsee items were not added to my ipod because they are missing, BUT THEY ARE ON MY IPOD
I do not want to have to re-purchase 15 songs at $1.29  I feel like ITUNES IS RIPPING ME OFF.  Please HELP

What did you try?
What happened?
Error message?
What did it say?
Any info?

In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in.  Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
There are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

You buy one and only one download.
As it should have been transferred to your computer when you synced, you can contact itunes support and ask for an exception.

No, you can easily migrate your entire library from one working compter to another.
If you fail to backup or migrate your library and find yourself with nothing but a new empty computer and a device full of content iTunes is designed to only recover the iTunes purchased content, however third party tools can help recover everything if needed.

Maybe you have multiple accounts that's why your purchase history is empty. You can try checking for possible Apple IDs that's existing for you or you can ask for assistance from support.

  • I recently bought a new macbook air and I tried to get my music from my iPod, but instead my mac deleted all my songs from my iPod, and I can't get it back. What am I suppose to do?

I had a bunch of songs from my itunes on my older laptop, and it was no problem to get the songs on my iPod. Now with my mac, I am facing too much problems with getting all my music to my ipod from my itunes. I lost all my songs, and the recent ones still won't sync. Its either I have the songs on my ipod and it can't play on my itunes or vice versa. I feel as though my investment in Apple was a big mistake. I'm having too much problems with it.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • My computer crashed. How do I get the songs off my iPod and onto my iTunes?

I have a second generation iPod Touch. It's an 8GB. I had basically filled it to capacity with music with a few apps and videos on there. Then, my computer crashed. So, after downloading the latest version of iTunes i tried to sync up my iPod and get the music back. Instead it asks me to "Erase & sync" or "Transfer purchases". My iTunes is fresh and has no music on it, so I am not going to erase and sync it. And most of my music was not purchased from the iTunes Store, so I am not going to transfer the purchases because it would have a fraction of my music on the iPod. My iPod hasn't been synced up in days because i will lose all or most of my music, but I do have all my music on it. I was just wondering if there was any way to import ALL the songs off my iPod and put them on my computer as well as iTunes!

For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.

  • Just got a new computer, and I want my songs off my iPod and onto my iTunes

So, I just got my new computer, and I have about 400 songs on my new iTunes. However, on my iPod, I have around 3,000. Some of the songs, however, I no longer have the cds for. I really don't feel like buying or tracking down ALL of those songs again. Is there a way I can get the songs off my iPod and onto my new iTunes? And no, I'm not trying to give all these songs to my friends or anything, I'm just trying to keep them all! If I could get an answer soon, that would be great!!!!
    Thanks!

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

songs wiped from ipod and itunes, can i get them back?

If they were imported from CDs, and you had no other backup of them on your system or another drive, you'll need to reimport them from CDs again.
For music purchased from the iTunes, you can redownload each track at no cost via iCloud.  See this article for more details.

  • Can I pull songs off my iPod and put them on my computer?

My husband's iPod classic needs a new battery. The problem is that he didn't back up his songs on the computer, so the only place they exist is on his iPod. As you know, when I send his iPod in for a new battery, his songs will all be gone.
So I was told recently that there is a way to pull songs off an iPod and put them into iTunes on a computer. Is this really possible? If so, does it involve new software or hardware? Can you give me specifics? Where is this software/hardware available? Our computer is a PC running Windows XP. I want to do this for him for his birthday. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
