The contacts are part of the backup. So restoring from a backup that has the contacts should have the contacts. Make sure that you have autosyncing turned off, otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer iTunes may overwrite the old backup with the new contents of the iPod that does not contain the contacts. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says Prevent iPods...

What were you syncing them with? They are meant to be synced with a contact manager on your computer, or a cloud service.
If you were not syncing them to anything, they're gone.

My iPhone has recently been crashing (or rather the apps) when I would try to access my text messages, contacts, phonebook, facebook, or email. I tried restarting my phone and lost all of my contacts. This has been happening more and more frequently. Today I was in my pictures and was trying to crop one and my phone shut off completely. Anyone know what's wrong with it or how to fix it?

Make sure all apps are fully closed:
- double tap your home button
- hold your finger on an app
- when the apps start to wiggle press the red "-" button on all the apps
Now do a hard reset:
- hold the home button and the sleeps/wake button down at the same time
- the phone will shut off then when the apple logo ppears release both buttons
If by then your contacts have not been restored you would need to try and retreive them from a back up on itunes/icloud that was made when the contacts were on the phone. You could even stream them from the cloud if they were synced to the cloud. The link beow will show you how to restore from an itunes/icloud back up:

Her contacts would be wherever she put them
The iphone is designed to be synced to your computer or cloud service regularly. If she failed to do this, then they are likely gone.

If they're gone from icloud.com, then they aren't in iCloud. You could try waiting a while to see if this was caused by a server glitch and they will reappear. You could also try contacting Apple support to see if there is anything they can do at their end: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.
Otherwise, you may be able to restore them by restoring your last iCloud backup. Doing this is a bit tricky, as you have to interrupt the restore process as soon as your phone restarts while restoring, either by putting it in airplane mode or pulling the internet connection to your router. If you don't, iCloud will overwrite and erase any restored calendars. Then you can disable iCloud calendar syncing and save the calendars to your phone, re-enable your wifi connection and let the restore process proceed, delete any existing calendars from icloud, and turn on icloud syncing on your phone again to upload the recover calendars to iCloud. This process is explained in this user tip from Winston Churchill: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4841. While this was written for contacts, just replace calendars for contacts and for the same instructions.

I think it was my second time of syncing. Also I tunes keeps opening when no apple prod is connected, and a dialogue box tells me it cannot find the I phone. When it is not connected?..

Lost all BB Messenger contacts during update to version 5

I have a Blackberry Curve 8520, firstly. I simply wanted to transfer some pictures to my laptop, and then I see something about an update for the Desktop Manager. There also happened to be the update to version 5.
Now silly me, I didn't make a back-up as I didn't know that this update would remove all my info.... I assumed it was just the applications (which I can install again) but I realized I've lost all my BB contacts. (Of course I didn't back up that info either.. geez...)
What I want to know is because I've registered before, shouldn't my info still show up in my contacts' lists? Isn't there a way for me to restore my contacts without adding them all over again? And can't they still msg me?

You need to hook up your phone to a computer that is running iTunes, and that has been authorized with your AppleID. Here is an iTunes primer if you aren't familiar with that whole thing:

Once iTunes is installed on your computer (Windows or Mac), then you would hook up your phone to the computer using the USB cable that came with the phone so you can sync it:

Once you have sync'd your phone, it is a good idea to do so regularly if you are not planning on using iCloud. If you decide to use iCloud (which is free for the first 5 GB of storage), then much of your stuff will be backed up on the Cloud on a regular basis, and the need to sync to iTunes becomes less urgent. Hope this all works out for you. I'm sure this is a really hard time for you, and to have to go through a whole new learning curve at the same time is going to be difficult. What update? There was nothing released yesterday relating to iCloud.
Where have you lost your contacts from? Your computer, your phone, iCloud.com?
If they are no longer in any of those places, you'll need to restore them from your most recent backup.

if you were using icloud, go into settings>icloud and switch contacts off, then back on and choose "merge".
if that doesnt work, delete the icloud account, then sign back in and choose merge. make sure you choose the option "keep on my iphone" when deleting the account, or you could lose other information.
