as long as you make sure your iTunes is authorized for both Apple ID's, yes.

  • Sync my ipod to a new computer without losing songs currently on ipod

I had my itunes and ipod set up on a computer. Then I got a new computer and I had to reinstall itunes on that computer. But, I cant sync my iPod to my new computer because it will erase all the songs that are on it from my old computer, and replace them with the songs in my new library. I have been adding songs manually and that worked for a little but now my iPod is full and I can't take any songs off because my iPod isn't synced to my new itunes. Is there any way I can sync my ipod to my new itunes without losing all my old songs?

Put the songs currently on your iPod back into iTunes.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
Then you can sync your iPod with iTunes as before.

  • How do you sync an iphone to a new computer without losing ANYTHING?

I know this sort of topic has been discussed a bit and I have searched quite extensively but I would REALLY appreciate any of you gurus out there to give this a quick read. I don't like to thread hijack and I never got all my concerns addressed from reading other threads so I figured I would make my own.
Ok, so I have looked around this forum, called Apple support and have searched google but have not quite found all the answers I am looking for so I decided to just register and make a post.
I have an HP desktop and now I have an HP laptop that I wish to make the new "home" to my iphone4. I did a recent backup of all my apps, music, and photos to my desktop but I have never used any program to sync notes, email, calendar etc. as I don't use Outlook or any of the options they have on the dropdown boxes. My new laptop and my desktop are both on the same version of itunes and I have authorized my new laptop and logged in to my itunes account. Also, my phone is not jailbroken so everything on it is legit. I do remember reading something that purchases only transfer if you bought them through itunes via a computer? All my Apps and music purchases were done strictly through iphone4.
So here are my concerns with the first sync to the new laptop:
1)What happens with the Apps? Do they get removed and restored or do they just copy from the phone to itunes? I can't just restore from itunes as I have several apps that I really like that happen to be discontinued and no longer available through the app store. Also, what happens to the game saves and other data within all the appps? And if it is going to restore these apps, I can only imagine it would give me whatever the latest version of them is? I have many apps I refused to update due to developers either ruining them or downgrading what they offer. For example, Pandora. I still use the non multitasking version because it doesn't have those annoying voice commercials.
    2) What am I to do about the notes, mail, contacts, texts, since I don't use the programs itunes offers to sync to? Should I sign up for MobileMe? Or would that just complicate things? I pretty much just use Hotmail.
    3) Music. What happens to it? I only have a handful of cd's and maybe two albums I purchased via phone through itunes. If my music gets wiped I can always put the cd's back I am just worried about the two albums I bought through the phone using itunes.
    4) Photos I backed up into a folder on the desktop so do I just copy that onto a flash drive and transfer it or will the photos just sync to the new laptop? They are all on the camera roll I don't have any other folders or albums on the phone.
Thanks so much to anyone out there who is willing to help me out as I did search before asking and only made this post as a last resort.
If it helps, old desktop uses Windows XP and new laptop uses Windows 7 64 bit.

    Welcome to the discussions,
a manual backup should help to transfer your data and apps.
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing and save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to the new itunes library.
See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
After that, transfer your purchases the same way by choosing "transfer purchases", to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored again from the manual backup you made before.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How can I sync my ipod to my new library without losing all the pictures?

A few years ago I bought an ipod classic and I downloaded some really great pictures. The ipod was synced with my old desktop which crashed and stopped working completely so I threw it away. I really want to download my new music onto my classic because it has so much free GB but I cant afford to lose my pictures. Is there any way I can copy them onto my PC?

Specifically I'm looking to keep all my photo's on the phone.

  • I want to sync my iPod to a new computer without losing app data. Is this possible?

My ipod says all data will be erased when I sync it to the new computer even though all of the music and apps have been transfered from the old computer. I want to keep the app data, but how do I do this? Is it even possible?

  • I have an Ipod Touch and I wanted to synch it to a new computer without losing anything, especially my playlists.  Can this be done?

I want to sync my ipod to a new computer without losing the anything currently on my ipod, especially my music playlists.  It seems like you can only synch to  one computer.  Both computers are mine, so what difference does it make?

Follow the instructions here. You can only sync with one iTunes library. That is how Apple has it work. You may loose the playlist but you will not lose the songs.

Question: I have a computer at home and one at work. Can I update my iPod music collection from more than one computer?
Answer: Yes. When you first connect iPod to your computer, iPod recognizes that computer as its "home" computer. Each time you connect, iPod automatically downloads the music library stored on it. When you connect iPod to a different computer, iTunes will inform you that iPod is linked to a different iTunes library and will ask whether you wish to erase iPod's contents and sync with the new computer's library. If you will be connecting to multiple computers frequently, configure your iPod to manually manage music. This will allow you to selectively drag songs, albums, or playlists from the second computer to your iPod without compromising the existing music.
Synchronization generally occurs only in one direction, from your computer to your iPod. This means you typically cannot transfer music, automatically or manually, from your iPod to a computer, and you cannot use iPod to copy a music library from one computer to another. An exception to this is the transfer purchases feature which allows you to restore purchased iTunes content to your computer from your iPod. Additionally, if you legally are allowed to copy music or other media files, you can configure your iPod as a storage drive to move media files.

  • How do I sync my iPhone to a new computer without losing all my data?

I hooked up my iPhone to my new computer and was able to transfer songs etc to my iPhone with no problems, just clicked and dragged like normal. Suddenly it wont let me do so, wont let me drag a song or anything over to my device. I noticed that the "manually manage music and video" check box was unchecked, so I clicked it and got the prompt to restore my iPhone and delete all the data on it. Obviously I clicked cancel. I have read a few other discussions about this issue but am confused and need a dummies approach please as most people seem to be referring to certain things, for example they are worried about losing their applications, or just their music....I want to be able to sync my iPhone to my new computer, without ANYTHING changing. I dont want to lose any music, apps photos, contacts, purchases....anything....
    Please help. Thank you!

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

This should be a pretty good guide for setting up the iPad with a new computer and for keeping your content.
Don't forget to authorize the new computer as well. Launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this Computer.

    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Make sure that you move your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one as well for all of your music.
Here is an article that can help you with that.

  • How do I update and sync my phone on  a new computer without losing all my stuff?

How do I update and sync my phone on  a new computer without losing all my stuff?

You need to move all your data from the original computer over to the new computer first.

  • I have just changed my computer as my old one died... but now cannot access my old itunes account so i have set up a new one with another email address. how can I sync my ipod to my new computer without wiping all my music ?

I have just tried to sync my ipod to a new computer as my old one died but as I cannot remember my previous log in I created a new itunes account. I now want to sync but it says it will wipe my music off my ipod. Does anyone know how I can do this now ?

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • How do I get music onto a phone that hasn't been backed up to new computer without losing anything??

I just found out my incredibly stubborn teenager's iphone hasn't been backed up at all since last spring. Her old 3gs was previously synced with my computer, but I thought she was syncing her 4 with her own macbook - evidently not. It hasn't even been backed up to icloud in months because she has too much data and not enough space. She refuses to remove anything from the backup cue even though nothing is backing up now. She usually just buys her music from itunes with the phone, but recently she purchased a cd since she wanted all the songs on it. She asked me to put the songs on her phone. Well I've got them in itunes, no problem, but I can't get them on her phone because it says it is synced to another computer. The only computer it could have been synced to is my old computer which is no more. How can I get these songs on her iphone? If I back up her phone in itunes and then restore from the backup I'm afraid it will lose something and she will freak out. I mean the world will end if she loses a single text message from last year. Can it be done? And if it can, I need step by step, idiot-proof instructions so I don't mess anything up. My husband says if she will get it to back up to icloud, it will automatically sync the songs from her laptop? Is that right? Or does it still need to be synced to itunes on that computer?
