I want itunes on my computer aswell as my laptop

Hello. Heres a simple one for you. But i need some advice before i do it please.
Basically, i have latest itunes on my desktop that caters for my iphone 4, ipad and ipod touch.
I've just got a new laptop and have installed latest itunes onto it.
I havent yet connected any of my 3 apple devices to itunes on the laptop but what i want to know is........ What will happen when i do connect my devices to itunes on my laptop, bearing in mind that upto now, i have been using my desktop for all connectivity with my devices.
Thankyou

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
*Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers*
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an *iTunes Music* or *iTunes Media* folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
In your case, as long as your library is within the capacity of both computers, you could use SyncToy across the network to keep the two copies of your library in sync whenever both computers are in the same place.

  • Moving Itunes from XP computer to new Vista Laptop

I attempted to use the Windows Easy Transfer function to move all my files from my old computer running XP to my new Vista laptop. The process worked, but my itunes library states that "the song cannot be used because they cannot find the original file". Please help!

The following article can be used as a basis for doing the transfer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
The article describes using an iPod to do the transfer, but once you have your music all together, how you copy the iTunes folder from one computer to another doesn't matter. You can use an external drive or network connection.
One you have transferred the itunes folder you need to set the permissions so your account has full control.

  • I have itunes on one computer. my account says that I have 2 computers authorized. I want to have itunes on both users accounts on my computer. how do I do this? thanks for any help!

I have itunes on my computer in my main user account. I want ot have the same itunes on the other user account on my computer - under the apple account info- it says that I already have 2 computers authorized - how do I find out which 2 they are talking about?  the only button nearlby is one that says to 'deauthorize all' etc.... thanks,. I have a pc.

You can only deauthorize all your itunes computers once a year, so I would avoid clicking that at the moment.  Log onto the 2nd user, and open itunes.  Go to Store> Authorize This computer.
As an alternative, you could point the 2nd user itunes library to the primary itunes folder.  So both users would use the same itunes folder.  You can do this by holding shift, clicking itunes icon.  There should be an option to browse for an existing library.  Locate the main computers itunes folder. (Most likely under: C:\Users\*Account name*\Music where *Account name* would be your main user accounts name.
    Good luck!

    Yes, No problem at all.
Want to give one to wife.do I need to open a new iTunes account for her?
No - you can share the same iTunes account (my wife and I share the same account). But when you sync the iPads, just remember to select the correct content for her iPad and the correct content for your iPad.

  • I want to shoot a movie on my iPhone and edit it on my iPad using the iMovie app. How can this be done via iTunes on my computer?

I want to shoot a movie on my iPhone and edit it on my iPad using the iMovie app. How can this be done via iTunes on my computer?

You can't drag video into the filesharing pane of iTunes, you can only transfer projects.
Videos need to come in via the photos tab of iTunes.
The easiest way to get videos from the iPhone to the iPad is via the project export import.
Projects can be exported from the iPhone, then imported to the iPad like this:
iPhone Send a project or trailer to iTunes
If the marquee screen isn’t showing, tap the My Projects button .
Scroll to center the project or trailer you want to share.
Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, and then tap iTunes; tap OK when iMovie indicates that export is complete.
Connect your device to your computer, and then open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your device appears in iTunes, below Devices on the left.
Select the device, and then click Apps at the top of the iTunes window.
Select iMovie in the Apps list below File Sharing. (You may need to scroll to see it.)
In the iMovie Documents pane, select the file you just shared, and then click the “Save to” button; save the file to your computer in a place where you can find it easily. You can also save the file by dragging it to the desired location on your computer.
Disconnect the device from your computer.
iPad Import a project or trailer from iTunes
Connect your device to your computer, and open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your device appears in iTunes, below Devices on the left.
Select the device, and click Apps at the top of the iTunes window.
Select iMovie in the Apps list below File Sharing. (You may need to scroll to see it.)
Click Add below the iMovie Documents pane; in the window that appears, navigate to the file you want to add.
Select the file, and then click Open to copy the file to your device. The file appears in the iMovie Documents pane when copying is complete.
Open iMovie on your device; if the marquee screen isn’t showing, tap the My Projects button in the upper-left corner above the viewer.
Tap the Import button at the bottom of the screen, and then tap the name of the project you want to import. When the import is complete, the project opens and can be edited like any other project.

  • How can I delete my iTunes account on my macbook pro.  I want to give my computer to someone else

Hi I have just bought a new mac book and have migrated everything accross.  I want to delete my itunes account so my husband can put his itunes on the computer.  I have deauthorised the computer but my music etc is still say there.  Any ideas?
    BW
    Sarah

Deauthorising doesn't delete music that already exists on your computer. You'll have to do that manually - assuming you really want to. Deauthorizing means, among other things, 1) any music with DRM, movies, or TV shows on your computer will not play until you reauthorize. Music without DRM will still play. 2) if you have an iPod, iPad, or iPhone you won't be able to sync your applications without first reauthorizing the computer. 3) you won't be able to purchase anything from the iTunes store until the computer has been authorized (with someone's account).

  • My iPad 2 will no longer Sync with iTunes on my computer.  It tells me to Restore which I don't want to do as I may lose valuable information from my iPad. My wife's iPad 2 and my ipod still Sync OK. How can I overcome this?

Upgrade to Snow Leopard - it's compatible with the latest version of iTunes, and still supports PowerPC applications.
    $19.99 - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard is required if you wanted to upgrade to Lion, anyway, which you may want to in the future if the latest version of iTunes no longer supports Snow Leopard.

This should get your itunes store connection working.
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
