I want to communicate and acquire data using the PC Parallel Port.

How do I to communicate and acquire data from the PC Parallel Port using Labview.
Thank you in advance.

One of the easiest ways is to use the INPORT and OUTPORT VIs. Find what port your parallel port is in and then send data to/receive data from that port. For more information on the port itself, try: http://www.lvr.com/parport.htm#Basics. If you are using NT (I heard some of the other new OS's have the same problem) then you need to download accessHW.zip from the NI site.

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

The Setup Assistant can restore your data from a Time Machine backup. You'll be asked if you want to do this the first time you turn the computer on.

    Hi Ben,
I use two PCI-MIO-16E-1 cards, connected by RTSI. I'd like to stream the
data from both cards in real time to a binary file, after having added a
    header to it.
For tests, on the channel 0 of each card is applied the same square wave,
    100 Hz.
Yes, the hardware support RTSI. I use LabView 6.1.
    Till now I have:
    1. Combined the "Two E-series Shared ScanClk.vi" and the "High
Speed Data Logger.vi" into a DAQ VI. To do this, I have "doubled" and
adapted the "High Speed Data Logger.vi". For testing purposes the data are
stored in two files, always the same ones (the old ones being overwritten
    after each acquisition).
    2. "Doubled" and adapted "High Speed Data Reader.vi" into another VI, for
reading from both files, mentioned earlier.
    What already works:
    - The headers for both files are correctly stored (VI point 1.)
    - The acquired data from the first card (device 1) are correctly stored (VI
    point 1.)
    - The VI (point 2.) that reads both files and displays the results works
    What doesn't work:
    - The acquired data from the second card aren't stored at all (VI point 1.)
    - An error message says: "Error -10608 occurred at AI Buffer Read. Possible
reason: NI-DAQ LV: No transfer is in progress for the specified resource."
I think that I understand this message, but I don't know how to continue.
The DAQ VI can be downloaded from (please click the link, then the link on

  • How can I do to acquire and save date in the same time and in the same file when I run continual my VI without interruption.

I've attached a VI that I am using to acquire amplitude from Spectrum analyzerse. I tried to connect amplitude ouput to the VI Write Characters To File.vi and Write to Spreadsheet File.vi. Unfortunately when I run continual this VI without interruption, labview ask me many time to enter a new file name to save a new value.
So, How can I do to aquire and save date in the same time and in the same file when I run continual my VI for example during 10 min.

    Hi,
Your VI does work perfectly. Unfortunately this not what I want to do. I've made error in my last comment. I am so sorry for this.
So I explain to you again what I want to do exactly. I want to acquire amplitude along road by my vehicle. I want to use wheel signal coming from vehicle to measure distance along road. Then I acquire 1 amplitude each 60 inches from spectrum analyzer.
I acquire from PC parallel port a coded wheel signal coming from vehicle (each period of the signal corresponds to 12 Inches). Figure attached shows the numeric signal coming from vehicle, and the corresponding values “120” and “88” that I can read from In Port vi.
So I want to acquire 1 time amplitude from spectrum analyser each 5
period of the signal that I am acquiring from parallel port.
So fist I have to find how can I count the number of period from reading the values “120” and “88” that I am acquiring from In Port (I don’t know the way to count a number of period from reading values “120” and “88”).
    Here is a new algorithm.
    1) i=0 (counter: number of period)
    2) I read value from In Port
    3) If I acquire a period
    i= i+1 (another period)
    4) If i is multiple of 5 (If I read 5 period)
acquire 1 time amplitude and write to the same
file this amplitude and the corresponding distance
Distance = 12*i). Remember each period of signal
Corresponds to 12 Inches).i has to take these
    values: 5,10,15,20,25,35,40,45,50,55,60............
    5) Back to 2 if not stop.
Thank you very much for helping me.

  • I need drivers for Polytech Vibrometer OFV-5000 to acquire data using LabVIEW 10

I am using LabVIEW version 10.0f2, but I said ver 8.6.1 since mine wasn't there in the dropdown. I am new to Labview, but am trying to catch up fast since I think it is an absolutely amazing software. I use a Polytech Vibrometer OFV-5000 to measure displacements and velocities in the  micro/nano lab, and wanted to acquire data on the PC via a RS232 cable. I needed my device drivers for the same. LabVIEW has drivers for Polytech Vibrometer OFV-3001, but they won't work for my model. Can anyone help me?

Well, as far as I know the Polytec-Controller, you can control the unit, set and read the setup (filter, ranges, laser on/off etc) values and the command set is in the manual.
Reading the velocity/displacement values seems not to be possible via RS232, only with S/P-DIFF Digital out. (The RS232 is slow and async , doen't make much sense unless you have a lot of memory in the controller ) usually you use the analog output and do the trigger/sync with your DAQ hardware
Have you asked polytec for a driver? I know they work a lot wiht NI hardware ...
We have a bunch of vibrometers, however since we (need to)  use it as a primary standard, we do the decoding of the heterodyne signal by our own ...

  • Want to store and retrived  images  in the BFILE format using inter media

I want to store and retrived images in the BFILE format using inter media.I found a article in the oracle site that Oracle interMedia image supports BFILEs.But this article is not demonstrating the use of BFILEs.Please help me to findout the solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    null

The advantage to using BFILE storage for your is that it's an easy way for Oracle
Multimedia to access your images without importing them into the database.
The disadvantages are that the images are read-only. If you want to scale an image or
convert to a different format, you will need to create a destination image to hold the result. This
will necessarily be a BLOB based image.
Adding images is difficult to do from within an application program. Generally you would add new images to a file system that is accessible to the Oracle Database, then insert new rows in your table with appropriate BFILE pointers to the new images.
BFILE images require separate backup from the database. Also there is not way to transactionally coordinate your BFILE data with your relational data.
If you are using Oracle 11g, you can use the SecureFile option for BLOB storage. This is much faster then the previous BLOB storage (now called BasicFile) and much faster then BFILE also.
That said, below is a code snippet that shows how to insert a BFILE based image, set it's properties, show it's properties and select the BFILE locator to access the content. You would need to use the DBMS_LOB package (in PL/SQL) to read the content. From other APIs, (e.g., Java) you would need to use the proper interfaces to access the BFILE.
Note that you need change the USER, PASSWORD fields in the code. Also you should change the directory location and image name for your use.
    -- create a directory object indicating where the images are stored;
    create or replace directory imgdir as '/tmp';
    -- and grant permission to read to a user;
    grant read on directory imgdir to <USER>;

  • Where to put data processing routine when acquiring data using DAQmx

I have a program that is aquiring data using the DAQmx Acquire N Samples mechanism with automatic reset and a data handler callback routine. DAQmx acquires N samples (usually 1024) from the board, calls the handler to do something with it, and then resets to get the next batch of data. The program acquires a number of lines of data, say 512 lines of N points each, with one callback call per line. Triggering is done by a hardware trigger at the start of each line of data. So far so good.
The issue is that the time that it can spend in the callback is limited, or else the callback is not finished when the next batch of data is ready to be transferd from the DAQmx buffers and processed. There is a substantial amount of analysis to be done after the entire frame has been acquired, and it ends up taking far longer than the time between lines; so where to put the processing? The data acquisition is started from a control callback callback that exits back to the idle loop after it starts the data acquisition process, so there is no code waiting to execute, to return to, when the data acquisition is finished.
I could try to put the data analysis routine into an idle-time routine and trigger it with a semaphore, or I could put it into a timer control callback with, say, a 10 millisecond repetition rate and poll a flag, setting the flag when all of the data has been acquired. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would recommend using Thread Safe Queues. Your acquisition callback can place items in the TSQ and then you can process the data in a separate thread. TSQs are nice because they allow you to install a callback function to run for certain events. Most importantly, you can install a callback for the Items in Queue or Queue Size Changed event which will run the callback if a certain number of items are in the queue. This lets you take advantage of multithreading in a simple and safe way using a standard Producer/Consumer architecture. However, you may still run into problems with this architecture if your acquisition thread is running much faster than the consumer thread. You could eventually overflow the queue. In that case, your only options are to either get a faster system, slow down the acquisition or do the data handling post process.

Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files on iMac 20inch but still have them on the TC for future reference..eg some movies on iTunes. I want to directly save them on the drive so I can delete them from iTunes and gain some storage. (Ps on iMac 20 inch (it's almost full - 320 GB) when I enter time machine, a tab comes up on finder which reads "Time Machine backups" it's able to be ejected like a disc or a connected device. On the iMac 20 inch, I dragged some files onto there as if using it like a hard drive. Is this the correct method? Then I went to my 27inch iMac and saw the "Time Machine Backups" hoping to see the files I dragged from the 20inch iMac. But the files were not there except a folder that said "Backups.backupdb". Can someone help me?

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.

I do NOT like using my credit card if I don't have to, and I went out of my way to go buy an Apple gift card, which I successfully redeemed into my Apple account. However, when I use the Apple "Cards" app, it will not let me use anything other than my credit card. • How to create the Export Data and Import Data using flat file interface

    Hi,
Request to let me know based on the requirement below on how to export and import data using flat file interface.....
Please provide the steps involved for the same.......
BW/BI - Recovery Process for SNP data.
    For each SNP InfoProvider,
    create:
    1) Export Data:
1.a)  Create an export data source, InfoPackage, comm structure, etc. necessary to create an ASCII fixed length flat file on the XI
ctnhsappdata\iface\SCPI063\Out folder for each SNP InfoProvider.
1.b)  All fields in each InfoProvider should be exported and included in the flat file.
1.c)  A process chain should be created for each InfoProvider with a start event.
1.d)  If the file exists on the target drive it should be overwritten.
1.e)  The exported data file name should include the InfoProvider technical name.
1.f)  Include APO Planning Version, Date of Planning Run, APO Location, Calendar Year/Month, Material and BW Plant as selection criteria.
    2) Import Data:
2.a) Create a flat file source system InfoPackage, comm structure, etc. necessary to import ASCII fixed length flat files from the XI
ctnhsappdata\iface\SCPI063\Out folder for each SNP InfoProvider.
2.b)  All fields for each InfoProvider should be mapped and imported from the flat file.
2.c)  A process chain should be created for each InfoProvider with a start event.
2.d)  The file should be archived in the
ctnhsappdata\iface\SCPI063\Archive directory.  Each file name should have the date appended in YYYYMMDD format.  Each file should be deleted from the \Out directory after it is archived.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tyson

Here's some info on working with plists:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/PropertyLists/Introduc tion/chapter1_section1.html
They can be edited with any text editor. Xcode provides a graphical editor for them - make sure to use the .plist extension so Xcode will recognize it.

  • When I try to sync photos, I followed all the steps, picked one folder.  When I hit "apply" I get this error message: Are you sure you want to remove 30 apps from iPad.  This will delete these apps and their data from the iPad. What have I done wrong

When I try to sync photos or music, I followed all the steps, picked onle folder, not the whole library.  When I hit "apply" I got this message:
Are you sure you want to remove 30 apps from iPad.  This will delete these apps and their data from the iPad" What can I change to just download the photos and not interfere with the apps?
(By the way, the memory is not even one quarter full)
Thanks for your help - Pat

I have the same problem.  I updated my mac to 10.5, which then had me update apps like itunes, etc. then it wanted me to sync my purchased music to my ipad before i updated the ipad...which worked ok. then when i was syncing the photos i got the same message when i hit "apply" asking are you sure you want to delete the 12 apps from the ipad -  clicked "no" and brought me back to the original screen. Got the same message when trying to move them from the hard drive to the ipad.  WHat is going on and how do I correct this? Thanks

  • I want to design some products for resale and I want to know if I can use the included Fonts

I want to design some products for resale and I want to know if I can use the included Photoshop Fonts and Images or do I have to pay additional licensing fees?  Very new to this and just looking for some basic information or a link to specifics.  Most of what I'm searching for brings up content for publishing and I'm really looking for information about reselling items in a product line.  For example Greeting Cards, Signs etc...  Thanks so much!

As for fonts, you don't need to do anything as long as you don't try to sell the actual font files. In print or the screen your fine to do as you want. Most fonts include a license EULA for you to read when installing them anyway.
As for images, that may be a different story, it will depend on the image. If there is a file that accompanies the image that states you can do as you please, that fine, but other wise, assume the image is copyrighted and require permission to use.
Some programs provide clipart that is for public use this clicpart can be printed and sold. But as with the fonts, you can not sell the clipart files themselves.
In the EULA that accompanies the software, it should state what can be done with any clipart or fonts that are included with the software.
If you are still in doubt, contact the company and verify it.

  • I have a new computer. I've installed iTunes. I don't want to lose the calendar and contact data nor the apps currently on my iPod Touch. Will that happen when I sync?

I have a new computer. I've installed iTunes. I don't want to lose the calendar and contact data nor the apps currently on my iPod Touch. Will that happen when I sync?

I don't think so. When you open iTunes, go to "Store" on the top and click "Authorize this Computer." Type in your email and pass, and click authorize. Then, when you connect you iPod for the first time, it should tell you "this iPod is synced with another computer, blah blah." It should give you the option to either "Erase and Sync," or "Transfer Purchases." Click "Transfer Purchases and your content should go into your new iTunes.
If this doesn't work and you still have your old computer there's another thing you can do. I know this works on windows, but I'm not sure how to do it on a Mac, maybe someone can offer some help. Assuming you have Windows, go to Start>Music>iTunes Media and you should see Music, Apps, Movies, etc. This is all the stuff in your iTunes. If you have an external hard drive or your iTunes library is small in terms of file size, you can do this in one go. Transfer the content (as much as you can fit at one time) onto the external storage. Then, put that content on your new computer on the desktop or somewhere where you can find it again. Open iTunes, and folder by folder highlight everything in the folder and drag it into the iTunes library. It should say "importing (content)" or something and then it should be in your library. If you look in your Music folder again, there should now be another "iTunes" folder there with all of your content back in it.
Hope one if these options works for you. Best of luck!
