I wish Apple would Stand and Deliver

I have had my Macbook Pro 15 since 2006. From the very first day I have had it I have had problems. I spent 2500 dollars on it. I have since spent 1500 dollars on fixing these problems my self.
List of issues.
1. Wireless connection problems. It won't stay connected wirelessly. I spent 120 dollars on a Belkin wireless router. Still did not work. So I bought an Airport Extreme. All my non-mac computers work great with it but my Macbook Pro. Still not working. Apple all along is telling me that their engineers are looking into a solution for it. Never ever got a fix for it since 2006.
2. MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857: never worked. Sent it in under warranty ... Worked the day I got it back. Tried again to burn a DVD 1 yr later. Never worked again. Since I so infrequently burn anything. I gave up on getting it fixed again. But for my 2500 dollars I feel that I should be able to burn at least a CD. I now I am buying a third party DVD superdrive and this party promises that I will be able to burn DVDs and CDs. 139 dollars. I m told the original superdrive has design flaws.
ATI Radeon X1600: This is my most recent problem. My screen gets a streaky when my computer gets warm. I had to find a fix online and tech that problem myself. I am a Network Technician and not an engineer but I have no problem fixing things with engineering flaws. Tech Fees. 5 hours @ $175/hr.
I am just soarly disappointed in Apple's failure to satisfy my needs on each of my warranty issues. I love my Macbook now that it may be working to it 2006 specification now that it is almost 2010. I really have wanted to purchase a newer Macbook but you can see why I have not. I don't want to get back into the habit of throwing money at a problem and hope that it goes away.
This post probably won't appear in the forum. But I thought if I let Apple know what I felt about purchasing a MAC from them in the future. If they even showed they care about this one customers issues I might buy again. We'll see.

Hi djkeith,
Not sure if you are aware but demanding that someone "stand and deliver" was the old English highwayman's way of telling people to cough up their jewels and their dough or he'd shoot them!
It is a pity you didn't post about some of this stuff earlier, as I'm sure we would have been able to work it out by now, given that you say that that you have had this computer for more than three years now.
In your single other post (back in 2006) I see you don't mention either the Belkin wireless router or the AE that you speak of here, but a Linksys one. THree routers in three years is pretty tough going, so why haven't you followed up on the matter here, and instead simply put up with it. Chances are you could have saved yourself a few hundred dollars!
1) All of these routers usually work perfectly well with an MBP and I can't imagine why on earth any "Apple" technician would say that their "engineers" had been "looking for a solution " to a problem that doesn't generally occur on your model un less the drive is dirty!
2) Wow! waiting a year to try burning a disc is a long time! A lot of time for dust to settle! Try a $10 cleaning disc.
I suspect whatever your problem is with wireless connections could easily have been sorted out, though if there really is a hardware problem you have obviously waited way too long to get it addressed properly
With the disc burning issue much the same applies. A year is a heck of a long time to leave a mechanical/optical device sitting doing absolutely nothing! The "original" superdrive, by the way, came out many years before your computer, and I doubt that anything anyone says about it has the slightest relevance to your situation!
Can't quite see where that $1500 repairs you talk about comes in, either. What repairs have you actually had done and why didn't you bother to get the wireless prob you speak about sorted while under warranty for goodness sake, or at least post a couple of Q's about it here?/?
But your problem, it seems to me, is that you haven't even bothered to ask the most basic questions about any of these issue in the 3 years plus that you have been on the boards (for just two posts, including this one!)
Your MBP is getting on in years now. What a pity you didn't seek a bit of help here when it was in its prime! Might have saved you a full three years of apparent/ alleged unhappiness about your purchase!
Cheers
Rod

Does anyone else miss the month-at-a-glance feature from the old version of Reminders app? I wish Apple would bring that feature back. It made it very convenient to schedule for the future.

  • Question for Hosts RE: What do you wish Apple would put in the next MacBook

    Hello
I cannot find any other means to contact the hosts on this discussions site so I am posting directly to the forum. Please accuse the interruption if this is not the appropriate way to contact the hosts.
Earlier this evening this discussion thread "What do you wish Apple would put in the next MacBook Pro update?" was removed by the hosts. I am the person who originally posted the question. I am curious as to why it was removed. I have read the terms of use and find nothing that would preclude such a question. Please let me know what the reasoning was for removing this thread.
From the replies I read today it seems like the sort of information provided by those who replied would be of interest to Apple. After all, the closer you (Apple) come to meeting the needs of us users out here, the more machines you are likely to sell.
So how about it, why was the post removed?
    Thanks
    -- Bennett

The Hosts, in my experience, will for privacy reasons never comment publicly on why a given post or thread was removed. Without having seen the thread in question, I can't say for sure why it was removed, but if the post, as the title you gave indicated, was just a "wish list" and started to wander into speculation, the Hosts would have removed it for that reason.
Generally it's best to keep posts to specific technical questions. Inviting chat about future features isn't generally going to go well and such threads usually end up being removed. If you want to make suggestions to Apple about future features, it's best to use the product feedback pages. Your suggestion is more likely to be seen that way in any case.
BTW, questions about the Discussions forums themselves will be best asked in the Discussions Feedback forum. But again, don't expect a Host to specifically address why a given thread was removed; they just usually won't.

  • How do I get Apple to stand behind their warranty and replace my defective computer? The hard drive has been replaced twice, the track pad once, and other hardware issues. Can anyone help me so I can get Apple to replace my defective

My computer has been a lemon. They refuse to properly diagnose, fix, and document my complaints regarding the multiple failures I have had with this computer. Also, I was told that upon my logic board being replaced back in April or May that the topic of replacing the computer altogether with one of equal equipment would be appropriate. Insofar, I have been to the store at least three times in the past month to discuss my issues with the computer that were not resolved when the hard drive was replaced in May. I was also told that the repairs on my system would be good for up to 90 days after the repair work was done and that I could buy AppleCare at the end of the 90 days in lieu of insuring a product that still had defects. I have been on the phone for what feels like hours with Apple trying to work this issue out but they are not wanting to stand behind their product nor are they willing to stand behind their warranty. The warranty expressly states that a computer can be replaced entirely if the defect is considered hardware malfunction and at the representative’s discretion. Every time I brought it in for repair it was due to hardware malfunction; however, they also said once that it was an accessory that I bought that was causing the problem which ended up not being the case after all. This is totally unacceptable. I also asked Mark from AppleCare to let me know what was repaired the second time the computer was put through a diagnostic at the Apple Store. Beachballs, Gears, excessive heat, not being taken seriously at the Apple Store, being insulted by a Mac Genius at the Apple Store, being misinformed by a Mac Genius, dealing with a misinformed Mac Genius. They replaced my iPod touch without much ado.  I was also accused by an Apple Genius of being "hyperbolic." He said this in response to my complaint of the computer melting--literally--items on my computer desk. I am either wanting a refund of my money or a replacement of my laptop. Also, I have lost an incredible amount of data on my computer due to the hard drive being replaced x 2. Not acceptable. Also, the Apple store is 1 hour from where I live. I am currently looking for employment and additionally have a legal case pending where I am the plaintiff. I have lost VERY important documents in both matters which has caused an extreme amount of stress. I do not need the added stress of an unreliable and unsafe computer. I also have been waiting for a call back from Kelly (left two voice messages with Kelly) and Mark (wrote an e-mail for which he has not responded to insofar) at Apple but have heard nothing from either one of them regarding the status of my computer. The only thing I received which was automated by the Apple Store was a confirmation that my computer was ready. I have requested documentation of what was done (basically, I am asking for the receipt) before I drive an hour to pick it up. Haven't heard anything. I brought this computer in on July 24, 2011. We are now upon August 2nd. When do I get to know what was even done on my computer? Do they really think that I am going to take back a computer into my possession only to have to bring it back shortly thereafter to address one of the many issues causing it to malfunction in the first place? I have owned 5 computers  since 1988. All of them PCs. This is my first Mac. Will it be my last?

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

  • Ordering a product on the Online Apple store and delivering it in the Apple store instead of home.

    Hello,
I'm about to buy a Macbook pro with an upgraded configuration for my birthday.
And here http://store.apple.com/hk/buy-mac/macbook-pro   you can see in the section "Configure to Order" that upgraded configuration can be made only at the Apple Online Store.  But I'm in HongKong just for tourism, Im not living there. And i dont want to be delivered at the hotel. I would like instead that the macbook will be delivered to an apple store, and then i go there to pick it up.
There is nothing indicating the restriction about that.
So i made my upgrade and check the delivery conditions :
    Available to ship:
    1-3 business days
    Free Shipping
    Shopping in Hong Kong
The Apple Online Store Hong Kong sells and ships items only within Hong Kong. You may not export any products purchased at the online Apple Store. The Apple Store sells and ships products to end user customers only. Notwithstanding order confirmation Apple may cancel any order where it has reasonable grounds to believe the product is not being purchased for end use.
The Apple Online Store Hong Kong does not support shipping items in a single order to multiple shipping addresses. To ship items to an additional address, please place a new order on the Apple Online Store.
For additional shopping options, visit the "Other Ways to Shop" section of the Shopping Experience online Help page.
And the page Shopping Experience (http://store.apple.com/hk/help/shopping_experience.html) is empty ( The page you're looking for can't be found. Please try one of the links below. )
It is not indicated that if i can or cant deliver the macbook in an apple store to pick it up when i ll pass there.
Anyone can help me on this point ? thanks you very much.
    Best regards,
    Mam721

Please contact me at pra1949 (at) me (dot) com for any further contact I don not monitor the suelefriends (at) gmail (dot) com email.
I have had several iisues with my Apple ID accounts and spent many hours at the APPLE store in Richmond Va. getting them fixed. The technician was wonderful, patient and very knowlegeable, however he was not able to complete the task and said I needed to contact Apple support for the final step. During the process of fixing things I ended up with two APPLE ID accounts. my main accout is suelefriends (at) gmail (dot) com and the second account is "pra1949 (at) me (dot) com" I have most of my apps tied to the main account with only a few to the pra1949 account. I also have $25 worth of credit on the pra1949 account. Because of the two accounts it still makes updating apps very confusing and very cumbersome. I would like to have the two accounts merged so I end up with one account with all the money and APPS tied to it, that way I only need one password to update. I hope this is possible.

I recently switched over from Apple to Sony and I would like to know how I can change my settings so that all my iCloud emails are forwarded to my Gmail account?

Log in on iCloud.com and go to Mail. In Mail, at the bottom left you should see a gear icon. Click on it, go to Settings (or Preferences, I'm doing this from memory), and in there you'll find an option to forward your iCloud email to another service.

  • Can i print from my apple in Australia and have a delivered in the USA?

    Hello,
I'm wondering if I can order a photo to be printed from my apple in Australia's hard drive and have it printed and delivered in the USA? (New York)
    Very greateful for any help!
If I am unable to do this - are there any US resident out there who can suggest a online printing/delivering service.
    Thanks, Nicole

No, but there is a workaround...
From the iPhoto Help menu ...
    Ordering overview
You can easily order books, cards, and calendars that you create using iPhoto. You can also order prints of your photos.
To order professionally printed books, cards, or calendars, or prints of your photos, you need:
    An Internet connection
    An Apple Store account
If you previously ordered from an Apple website, including the iTunes Store, you already have an Apple Store account and an Apple ID. If you don’t, you’re guided through setting up an account the first time you order prints, books, cards, or calendars.
Orders must be placed, paid for, and shipped within your country. If you order in the United States, you can have your order shipped anywhere within the United States; if you order in France, you can have your order shipped anywhere within France; and so on.
To send prints, books, cards, or calendars to an address outside your country, first have the order shipped to yourself (in your country) and then mail it to another country.

We are just users like yourself.  If Apple has stated publicly about the problems you mentioned, it will be listed on their website and/or in one of their Knowledge Base Articles.
I have a 27" & do not suffer from such a problem.  You should keep in mind that these are technical support forums. Generally, the only people posting here are those with problems. The thousands/millions without problems don't ever come here.

  • Recently my iPhone 5 started rebooting to a messed up screen that would flash and show different bars and colors. I would either have to wait a bit to restart it and fix it. But now, it got to the point where I can't even get past the Apple splash screen

My iphone 5 was working fine until it recently started to reboot to a messed up splash screen that would flash and have bars across it. When this happened, I couldn't do anything and had to restart it. I was able to start up the phone sometimes, until just recently. Everytime I started up the phone, it would load up the splash screen and then become distorted, flashy, and sometimes colorful and I could not use my phone. To try and fix this, I put it into recovery mode to do a factory restore, but iTunes can't even restore my phone. I even tried DFU mode.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
