IBooks Collection!

Hi everyone,
I actually bought the iPad for the purpose of downloading books and reading, in other words carrying my library with me wherever i go. I already got an iPod touch and getting benefit of the apps and music. But when it comes to iPad, am very disappointed, the collection of books offered by iBooks are very limited, its actually a narrow bunch of Literature "Classics" not more not less! I thought I was going to access Worlds most known presses and buy the latest books and best sellers. I don't know if this applies on iTunes store US and the other regions, but this is the situation with me in Kuwait.
Hope anyone can help or tell me its temporary cuz am really down.

There are three apps that can get you books:
• Kindle from Amazon
• BN from Barnes and Noble
• iBooks
Each has different contracts with both publishers and authors. For example, Kindle is bypassing the publishers and negotiating with agents directly.
From my personal observation, Kindle has the largest library by far. It has slightly better pricing on some books. The problem with Kindle is that it's a bit challenging to buy books from your iPad, because the app sends you to Safari to buy it. BUT, you can do this online.
The iBook app is a bit more refined, IMHO. But your tastes might be different.
Also realize that not every best seller comes out in an electronic format. Some authors don't want it. Some publishers wait a bit before allowing it to be published electronically. Also, books published before say 2005 are harder to find electronically. And iBooks seems to focus on newly published books and has a LOT fewer pre-2005 books available, probably because Kindle is older.
I haven't done much with Barnes & Noble, but it is a robust store that is getting very competitive with both Apple and Amazon.
The biggest problem is that you have your books will be scattered across three apps. I buy most of my books on Amazon, because I have over 100 books there. I haven't bought one on Apple yet.

I prevsiouly owned an Ipad. Before selling it, I backup it on my Macbook. When the new Mavericks has been released, i upgraded my Mac. Now that I have iBooks on my Mac, I want to restore my iBook collection from my previous Ipad to my Mac. On my Mac, I can only see the iBooks collection of my previous iPad but not the books that I have purchased. I probably had more than a hundred books on my collection (in epub and pdf formats). I have already tried transferring purchases in iTunes and adding to my Library but to no avail.
Can anyone give me a solution to this.

Restore as a NEW device to test. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file, or maybe it's one of your apps causing the trouble. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

did you mean, iTunes Store and then Books? thats the only thing i can find (following your notes above).
what I am trying to do is add PDF documents to iBooks and organise them into collections.
however, i have found a work around:
1. transfer the PDFs to the library (they go into Books automatically)
2. highlight/select the PDFs that I want to group
3. right click, get info, info tab
4. create a Genre.
doing this method creates categories. not as good as collections, but this will do for now.
if anyone can tell me how to create collections for iBooks (using iTunes - not iBooks on the iPad); please reply.

Can I restore iBooks collections after accidentally deleting them and syncing deletions on all my devices? I thought changes would apply only on 1 device. I think the files are still stored in my iTunes / iOs devices.

No. The titles should still be available for download, but the actual Collections would need to be recreated.

Why can't I manage my iBook collections within iTunes?

Hi,
I manage my ebooks on my iOs devices within collections using the iBook app. I'm surprised to find that my iTunes software on my mac doesn't allow me to organize ebooks by collection though -- I have to do everything one at a time on the ipad. Very frustrating, and it seems like a very stupid design flaw.
Does anyone know how to manage collections via iTunes?

Thanks for the reply, but you didn't read my question apparently.
Yes, there is an Books tab. Great.
However, I can't seem to manage any collections via iTunes -- only on the iOs version of iBook. Since iTunes is meant to sync with iBook, then I would think that I could manage the core features such as collections via iTunes as well. This doesn't seem to be the case.
In short, is there a way to manage iBook collections via iTunes. Or.... do I need to go through my books (all 178 of them) one by one and manually place them into collections on my ipad -- which would be a huge pain.

I have both setting on either in iBooks on Mac and both in iPhone and iPad.
The books are synced but not the collections.

Okay I feel kind of dumb now for posting but yeah that did the trick.
I had to disable reminder syncing on my iPhone, delete all reminders and then re-enable remidners and download them again. That immediately caused all reminders created on my Mac to sync properly to my iPhone. Let's hope it doesn't get stuck like that again...

It has something to do with Segoe fonts in your Windows system.

Why doesn't iBook collections transfer from iPad to iBooks in Maverick?

On my iPad I have made all my own collektions of books and PDFs but when i open iBooks on my Mac I apparantly have to redo them all again - there is only the 3 standard collections - books, pdfs and bought? Is there a way to sync all these and if not - do we then manually have to add a new book to a specific collection on each seperate device we have - mac. iPhone and iPad?

I have the same issue... In fact, I posted a similar question on this forum prior to reading yours. It appears as though each COLLECTION (25 of them) I've created on my iPad made its way into iBooks on my OS X Maverick iMac, but many of them are empty or are missing some of the entries. I would really like to know how to fix this.

How can you delete ibooks from your collection list. I no longer want them on my mini ipad

Open the iBooks app. Tap the Edit button at the upper-right. Tap the books you wish to delete. Tap the red "Delete" button. Or you can uncheck them on the Books tab in iTunes on your computer and they'll be removed when you sync.

Sync iBooks Collections between iPad & iMac (Mavericks)

I have an original iPad (iOS V 5.1.1). How do I sync collections to Maverick's iBooks?

Unfortunately it is not automatic. Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections are turned on in the iPad. Sync bookmarks, highlights and collections box is checked in the iMac. I even connected the iPad to my Dell and updated iTunes with my collections. On iTunes on the Dell the collections are listed under the tab "On This iPad". Another tab labeled "Books" is empty. When I check the "Sync" box it alerts that syncing will replace collections "On This iPad" with what is listed under the "Books" tab, which is empty. NO WAY.
Also, I have one book on the iMac. It did not sync onto the iPad. Therefore, syncing is not working in either direction.
Is it possible this first generation iPad OS is not capable of syncing to the Mavericks OS?

How can I easily transfer file (pdf, doc , xls) from one iPad to another. The files are in iBooks collections?

I have just purchased a new iPad2. We have an iPad and would like to transfer files that are in iBooks as pdf and doc to the new iPad2 without e-mailing each as a attachment. Any ideas?

If you're syncing the documents from iBooks to your computer using iTunes, you can just sync them onto your new iPad the same way.
If you don't feel the need to use iBooks, you can use a cloud storage app like Dropbox or a file management app like Goodreader.

Upgraded my iPad2 with OS 5 today and my ibook collections is empty. how do i restore my books??

hi just upgraded the ipad2 with OS 5 all new features are working well but ca.nnot see my books in the ibooks? Would appreciate if someone can guide on how to retrive my books in to IBooks.

I upgraded my iPod Touch 4 to OS5 last week and ever since I can't view the books in my iBooks. That is I can open the book but when I try to go to a different page it 'throws me out'. I've tried deleting the book and reinstalling it but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone help me?

Same book appears multiple times in iBook collections. I have bought a few books in iBooks store but each title appear about 50 times. Also after synching or deleting book titles, they keep on re-appear.

Bought over the lat year a number of book titles but lately the book titles appear multiple time in the collection. It makes the collection UN accessible if you have to scroll down pages of the same title. I have tried to remove them from the collection but that doesn't work, they keep on re-appearing after the title is deleted. Is there a solution to this?

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

Quit the iBooks app completely and reboot the iPad. Then see of the bookshelf pops up again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
