Welcome to the Apple community.
Do you have iPhoto 9.2.2 installed, have you installed the iPhoto photo stream update, have you enabled photo stream in your iPhoto preferences.

I'm new to the iCloud and Mac in general. After experiencing a hard drive that went out of the blue, I lost everything. I wanted to use the icloud to back my documents up. I went into the iCloud under settings but it only shows my iPhone and daughter's iPod. How do I get my Mac to back up too? Is there something I need to use to have the documents back up?

You cannot back up your Mac to iCloud. Even backing the whole thing up to another online service would be dubious because it would take a very long time. You should buy an external hard disk and back up to that - even better, buy two and use one to make a Time Machine backup and the other to clone your Mac from time to time, thus giving you a backup from which you can boot in an emergency.
If you wanted to back up a suitably sized selection of data to an online service there are a number of third-party methods available, some of which are examined here:

  • Groups on iPad and iPhone not on iCloud and mac.

    iCloud and mac sync.
    iPhone and iPad sync.
iCloud and mac - don't syc with - iPhone and iPad.
    (Contacts)
You can imagine, I've tried everything.
    Thanks

I have deleted and reinstalled iCloud on my iPad. The contacts download from somewhere, MobileMe?, but they are not the same as those on my iCloud contacts. Or on my mac.

  • Simultaneously saving on iCloud and Mac?

I would like to simutaneously save my PhD-thesis on my Mac as well as on iCloud and keep both documents in sync.
Reason: iCloud would be a good back-up and allows multiple access (for sudden ideas if my MBP is not at hand) while I also need to work on my Mac quite often without internet access. Furthermore, I wouldn't want my thesis to be only saved in the cloud.
Am I too cautious or even paranoid? Could I shift my precious document entirely to the cloud?

Use iCloud, the document is also stored on your Mac at user>library>mobile documents and is backed up by Time Machine.
Do not use iCloud as a replacement for Time Machine, it is not a backup system!

  • Synch iphone with icloud and mac?

I am having problems with trying to find instruction on how to achieve synch for my contacts using  iCloud, iphone and Mac.
Is there any information available on this?
    If so, where??
    Appreciate your help and advice.

This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Contacts (Address Book).
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • Imessage in ICloud and Mac OS  10.8?

    Hi.
I dont get my I message working via iCloud id? I just got Mac OS 10.8 and iMessage but I dont get it to work with ICloud id.
The symptom is that when I try to logg in to my Apple Id it get stuck with nothing that happens. No respond at all. Not any error report just nothing.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Please give me some assistance.

    hi,
I have friends like this when their AppleID is different than their @me.com address.  iMessage use the AppleID and not the @me.com address.  In order to reach them, you need to use their AppleID which are in their case another email address that even may longer exist.
Maybe I'm wrong, but you should check what your AppleID is at https://appleid.apple.com and try to login iMessage with that and try this same ID for people to contact you.
I talk with Apple Customer Care about this arguing that this would make no sense of not being able to use the same AppleID and @me.com address.  He did agree but to no ends; they cannot change your AppleID since it is registering all the purchased.
If that your case too, that will make this thread interesting because it's quite a customer issue of not been able to use your @me.com as your primary email address.

  • Why do I show both the iCloud and .mac  mail accounts on my phone

I have an icloud account and both the .mac and icloud mail account show up on my iphone.  Is this necessary?  If I disable mail on the icloud page of my phone, will the mail be accessable in icloud but not show as a seperate account on my phone?

You can't merge the backups, you'll have to delete the backup of your old phone.  If it says it's currently in use when you try, that will normally clear up on its own but may take 3-5 days to do so.  Give it a few days and try deleting the old backup again.
In the meantime, you can create a manual backup of your new phone on your computer by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, clicking on the name of your phone in iTuens, going to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and clicking Back Up Now.  Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  Then you'll be safe until you can start backup up to iCloud again.

  • ICloud and Mac after recovering from Recovery HD

    Hi everyone.
I had a serious issue with my mac, but I solved it by reinstalling OS X using recovery HD. So now because of that I can still see my old Mac data in the iCloud. I got the same Mac, but iCloud thinks that I got two different Mac and now it is syncronizing with my Mac. I got all new data on my Mac, but iCloud is giving me stuff from my old OS, because it thinks it should syncronize and give me all my data back.
So the question is: How do I remove all my data about my old OS from iCloud?
    Thanks

can you go back to recovery mode then open disk utility.
in disk utility, higlight the disk, the one saying the brand and size then click on repair disk under first aid tab
if it repairs fine, that's okay
if repair was not successful, go to partition and change current to 1 partition then apply
    install lion again
    hope this helps

  • ICloud and .mac mail

    Good day Apple Community
I had to convert to iCloud to keep my .mac mail account.
My question is, do people continue sending mail to my .mac
account, or will they have to now use .me?
I got a rather confusing message stating that I could keep my
    mail account at [email protected]
Just looking on some clarification so I know if I have to send out a
    mass email notification.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Cameron

    Thanks Monica!
I figured as much as in the past, sending emails to the .me address ended up
sending the email to my .mac home account, as well as my 'mobile me' remote
    site.
    Thanks again for your reply!

  • Selective backup to icloud and mac

when I turn on icloud backup on my iphone it says I don't have enough storage - needs 5.2GB
of that 4.7gb is the camera roll.
I can be selective in what I backup, i can turn off backup of the camera roll (not to be confused with the photostream which doesn't count towards storage)
If I turn of the camera roll (or any other options) will the camera roll backup to my iMac while the rest backs up to the cloud?
    Thanks
    David

No idea. What is it that you actually want do?

  • Itunes in my mac and itunes in my mac book pro do not share the same number of songs, isn't icloud and match supposed to solve that problem?

My itunes library in my mac and mac book pro are not the same, depending on which machine I loaded the music on.  Isn't icloud and match supposed to solve that problem?

Um, not really. What are you trying to accomplish?

  • I have two apple accounts, with two separate iCloud accounts, both with information I need on my iPhone and mac. One email is no longer valid therefore I can't varify it via emial. How do I get info onto my phone or onto one account?

I have two different email accounts/IDs because one of my account email's is no longer valid, therefore I am unable to verify it via the varification email. I can not use my current email/apple ID to change it to becuase it is set as my backup on the first account. So frustrating because I am now paying for two seperate iclouds and cloud music storage as well. Just bought my mac and I am having trouble getting music onto my iphone because the majority is on the old, non valid email address account but I have to use my current apple ID on my iphone.... any suggestions on how to not lose everything and have it all in one place would be great! Thanks!

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

  • Recently got a new iPod 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod - any suggestions?

Recently got a new iPod Touch 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod after multiple attempts, despite all songs showing properly on the Mac and multiple syncs occurring after all songs were properly reflected on the Mac.  I updated iTunes Match from the iTunes Store menu as well pre-sync.
I should mention that I had previously had the library on a Dell (which is still running) and shared it on my home network.  While all iTunes purchases now show in the Dell, the Mac is the device I use for all syncs.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the iCloud physical sync failure - some songs were legacy, some were purchased via the PC, some on the old iPod.
The Mac shows all the songs correctly and none show iCloud status -all have been downloaded, but the downloaded songs that were previously showing up as iCloud based aren't syncing to the iPod.
Is there any way to force all music being seen by my iPod as iCloud to download to so I can listen to them offline?  Is there a way to force the sync from iTunes?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

  • HT2513 my iCal calendar that I created with the color green keeps changing to purple.  no matter how many times I change it to green, it turns it back to purple.  Of course this only happens with iCloud and not "from my Mac".  Any ideas?

my iCal calendar that I created with the color green keeps changing to purple.  no matter how many times I change it to green, it turns it back to purple.  Of course this only happens with iCloud and not "from my Mac".  Any ideas on how to correct this?  This seems like a trivial error, but it's super annoying.

I called Apple and they said that they know about this problem.  It's a problem with iCloud which their Engineers know about.  (there was a new iCloud release, hence...)  No ETA for a fix yet.  I asked that this be escalated so Engineering doesn't put it at the bottom of their fix list.  I talked to a Senior Advisor and mentioned to them to have QA check their regression tests as this has happened before to me (the problem just didn't take this long to resolve).  I like to use green too for important stuff, so I've resorted to creating a new calendar using the normal calendar green for events going forward.  They could have picked another color besides green to have this problem with and I wouldn't have been so upset.  ;-)
