IDCS6 Mac Interactive Button creation with URL

I have been requested to write a series of scripts that will automate the building of interactive objects such as buttons that will then activate a web page or an email address.  I looked at the object model and the Button object has a property called gotoURLBehaviors which, if one looks at it on a button that is already created, contains the web address of whatever web page the button is pointed to.  The button works.
However, if I attempt to write to this list using the add method ESTK tells me that this property is readonly.
Using Javascript, how can I get my URL associated with the button I am creating?

Well, now, that's just the thing, Hans.  In the scripting guide, using "bounds" as an example, I may instantiate an object like this:
var MyObject = new somethingOrTheOther(10,10,20,20);
or I may do it like this:
var MyObject = new somethingOrTheOther([10,10,20,20]);
or I may do it like this:
var MyObject = new somethingOrTheOther({bounds = (10,10,20,20)});
Though your help was immensely appreciated, I searched for two hours on my own looking for a syntax that would work.  Did you discover it by trial and error, or is it stated someplace else where I can look and find other important, if hidden bits of information?
I am also curious to know why the documentation calls that property "readonly" when in reality it is quite manipulable if you use the right syntax?
TIA!
R,
John

  • Button creation with links in HTML

I have some buttons that have been created in Flash. I'd like
to be able to place the swf into HTML, then link each one as needed
in HTML, rather than exporting multiple swfs. What code do I need
to include in Flash, and what in HTML? Seems like it should be
simple, but nothing I Google is coming up with it.
    Thanks!

you can pass the desired URL as "FlashVars" when composing
    the <embed Src /> tag.
use that variable to fetch the url location to be navigated.

  • Can Mail send interactive PDF attachments with URL links?

I have tried without success to send a PDF that has URL links embedded (made in InDesign CS3). When this mail arrives the links are stripped out from the attached PDF. I do not want to send html mail for this purpose.
    Anyone have any answers? Thanks.

    Jon,
The strong probability is that a SPAM filter in the path to the recipient has stripped them out -- Mail would not cause this. Have you tried opening the PDF with Acrobat Pro, doing a Save As, and then attaching that version to see if the same behavior continues.

  • Interactive button in PDF file doesn't work with Adobe Reader for Mac nor Acrobat Pro

    Hello!
I've to use a interactive form which has an interactive button that is supposed to send that form by email. If I open that PDF with my iPhone or iPad with the PDF Expert App, it works perfectly, but for any strange reason, when I try to open that same PDF in my Mac with Adobe Reader or Acrobat pro, that button doesn't do anything.
Can this be a configuration error?
    Thanks!

The problem is deeper than that. It's not reader. Now the same form I was creating in LifeCycle Designer ES2 yesterday, with the actions working perfectly, no longer work. None of the actions are working.
Could it be realted to me trying to set the default version compatibility to Adobe 7. It gave me warnings, so I set it back to 9.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problem with Interactive Buttons

    Hi all,
I seem to be having trouble with Interactive Buttons.
    InDesign CS5 - Version 7.0.3
I create a document with 2 pages (Facing Pages is checked).
I add a text box to each page, Page one's text box says "1" and page two's says "2".
Page two's text box I right click and select Interactive | New Hyperlink Destination - Type: Page, Page: 2, Zoom Setting: Fixed
On Page one I add a sample button from the buttons panel.
I select the button and then display the buttons panel.
I remove the default "Go To URL" action and add an action of "Go To Destination" using the Event of "On Release"
When I preview the page from the "Preview" panel, I click "Play" and can see the first page and the button (great), but when I click the button, nothing happens.
The mouse changes as I mouse over the button, the state of the button changes to the rollover state... all seems well but it doesn't actually perform the action of going to the next page.
I have tried exporting to PDF and making sure that "Include Bookmarks" and "References" is checked as well as making sure that "Create Tagged PDF" is checked but the exported pdf doesn't run the action either!
What am I doing wrong? It seemed so easy when I looked at some video tutorials on how to do it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the fast response.
I fixed the issue with the preview window (saw a previous post).
However the Export options I have are:
    Adobe PDF Presets...
      Define
      High Quality Print
      PDF/X-1a:2001
    PDF/X- 3:2002
    PDF/X- 4:2008
      Press Quality
      Smallest File Size
    Export...
    Export For....
      Buzzword (greyed out)
      Dreamweaver
      EPUB...
If I choose Export... I cannot see an option for exporting to PDF (Interactive) no matter which options or types of PDF I select.
However, my PDF opens in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - is that the issue? Even if I open it in Adobe Reader 9.3 it doesn't work.

  • Button creation Adobe Encore vs. DVD studio pro (mac only)

I'm sitting here, trying to figure out what to do if you want to create a neat button with transparency quickly.
I remember my time at school where we used DVD Studio pro to create our DVD menues based on photoshop images.
Right now, I am trying to create a menu of that kind but guess what? I can't do it as easyly as it can be made with the other program NOT
designed by Adobe. But, what a shame, I have no mac to use DVD Studio pro -.-
Why isn't it possible to SELECT LAYERS of an image created with a program of the SAME COMPANY to represent the different status on
a DVD menu? It would be soooooo much easier. But no!
    "Solid colors only
Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. Color gradations are not possible in subpictures." (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/EncoreDVD/4.0/WS2CF5669B-310A-4fa7-A52F-7D01AB25A846.html#WS AC753DA7-21EF-464a-9FC0-8D873658D760)
It's not possible??? Why??? I could create a picture in Photoshop and, later, it would be on your TV just as you saw it already while creating it.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Instead I get some ugly colour changes, I have just one colour for a layer (ridiculous!!!) or the writing even disappears for a reason I can't understand...
Encore is a very mighty program, but the button creation is a very nasty work. Like apple showed, There is a way that guarantees a very more easy way.
    Please revise this function!
Am I underskilled? Am I wrong? Please comment
    sincerely
    Elke Kolke

Actually, Button creation is easy in PS, and one can even populate a Menu with Library Buttons in Encore, and then edit them to suit in PS. This latter method saves having to do the Button Layer Set and Layer naming by hand.

This is a limitation of the DVD-specs. and not Encore/PS. One is bound to those DVD-specs. Sub-picture Highlights can ONLY be 2-bit color (either ON, or OFF, plus can have Transparency - think just the opposite of Opacity in PS). There are design ways to create the "illusion" that one has Sub-picture Highlights, that get past the DVD-specs., but those are only illusions. One is still bound to the DVD-specs. This ARTICLE might offer some tips on creating the illusion.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Those "annoying prefixes" tell the DVD player how to handle the Buttons. Without those, the player has no clue that you have a Button, and will only display a static graphic.
Jeff Bellune has a great book, The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. Though it was written for an earlier version, 100% of that book still applies, because the DVD-specs. have not changed. He steps one through building custom Buttons in PS for use on a DVD. He also shares a ton of tricks to create illusions within the DVD-specs.
    Good luck,

Have not backed up for months, so prefer not to lose the data.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time of holding both buttons. Click the Update or Restore button that iTunes offers.

  • PDF form with buttons opens up URL with security warning window

I have a short-lived process that renders PDF form with data merged. The data is in XML format.
The form buttons are assigned URL values when the form is opened. When I click on them,I get a Security warning prompting me to allow/block that site. When I click on 'Allow', I get a window of download statistics of the website that in the URL.
This would be annoying to the end user. How I do I suppress the Security warning window as well as the download statistics window before the PDF is opened ? Can this be done either at the process design, form design stage or using Java APIs ?
    Thanks,

  • PDF for Print with interactive buttons

In ID CS4 when exporting a book to PDF, the buttons were automatically added when "interactive elements" were checked in the export dialog box. In ID CS5, the export book to PDF requires you to select the "for Print" or "Interactive". I want to create a single file that can be used for print and has some interactive elements included.
When I select export for PDF "Interactive" the two page spreads (8.5 x 11) turn to one large spread (11 x 17). I don't want the large spreads, but I do want the interactive buttons (return to last page viewed) I have at the bottom of the page.
Is there a setting I am missing?
This worked in CS4, why is it not letting me do the same thing in CS5??
    Thanks for your help!

  • Indesign CS6 - Interactive Buttons - Destination links changing when opened on another computer

    Hi,
I have encountered a bit of a problem with Indesign CS6.
I have a customer who has created an multi-chapter Indesign file which has interactive buttons within the each chapter in the book. These buttons are linking to each chapter. E.G., Buttons on the first page in chapter one, might link to the first page of Chapter three. This has been done by setting a destination, to the file and specifying the page number within the Interactive elements dialogue box. The client has created an interactive PDF out of this.
When I have opened the file on my side, all of the interactive destination elements have reverted to Page 1 of Chapter 1 in every single chapter (this is the first file in the book). Obviously, this means me relinking all of the locations again (there are over 2000 in the file that would need to be fixed).
Now, I am opening the file on a Windows PC in Windows 7 using CS6. However, the client has created the files on a Mac. Which could potentially be an issue maybe (I am testing this).
However, has anyone experienced this before, and is there a workaround?
    James

    Hi LoriAUC,
Thanks for this. Very much appreciated.
I have asked sagar-khanna from the other discussion is he knows more about the broken links etc.
    Thanks again.

  • InDesign / Acrobat Mystery - interactive buttons misinterpreted as form fields by Acrobat

    hi everybody
I am quickly approaching a deadline and have only few hair left... i stumbled upon a bug or whatever in InDesign... After countless hours of pinpointing the root of the error i am able to reconstruct the error scenerio in few steps that go like this:
1 - create a blank ID document with 37 pages
2 - go to Master Page A in that document
3 - create 3 interactive buttons with the button tool anywhere on the Master Page A, leave the buttons blank
4 - export all pages to PDF with all interactive options ON
    NOW !
what i get when i open this PDF in Acrobat is an annoying pink bar across the width of the page saying this:
Please fill out the following form. If you are a form author, choose Distribute Form in the Forms menu to send it to your recipients.
NOW WHERE THE HACK IS THAT COMING FROM AND HOW TO TURN IT OFF !!!
TO MAKE YOUR HEAD TWIST !
try exporting the same ID document but only pages 1-20 and the annoying pink stripe does not appear in this case... crazy - no changes to the document...
please help ASAP i wasted two days figuring this out...
since this is a king of ID/ACRO combined problem appearing on PC or MAC i post it on all related forums... sorry i see no other options...

    -------------------- PROBLEM SOLVED -------------------------
ok so to make it quick the whole ill behaviour seems to be a bug appearing only in combination of InDesign 5.0.x and Acrobat 8.0.0 for Macintosh, the problem could be solved using Acrobat 8.1.2
since most of the bug fixes in Acrobat 8.1 and 8.1.2 updates are according to Adobe "bug fixes of Form-Related Issues" this makes total sense...
    -------------------- QUICKEST SOLUTION ------------------------
1 - upgraded to Acrobat 8.1.2 for Macintosh
2 - exported the PDF -WITHOUT- any buttons
3 - opened the PDF in Acrobat 8.1.2 and created the buttons manually inside Acrobat 8.1.2
ANYBODY WITH ACROBAT 8.0.0 FOR MACINTOSH WILL STILL SEE THE PINK BAR !!!
EVERYBODY ELSE (READER 9.0, ACROBAT 8.1.2) WONT SEE THE PINK BAR OR ICON ANYMORE!!!
GOOD BYE EVRYBODY AND THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED ME SOLVE THE PROBLEM...

  • Mac created button will not open PC file (on PC)

I am creating a simple menu in Acrobat 7, on a Mac. I have two buttons, one opens a mac file, the other opens a PC file. The idea is to click on the appropriate button depending on what platform the user is running.
So on my mac, the button works fine, the file opens fine. On a PC, however, the button seems to link to the file no problem, but the file doesn't quite open all the way.. it starts to open the application, but then just stalls. The funny thing is, if I just go find the .exe (that the button is linked to open) and double-click, it opens just fine. It seems there is some kind of hangup between the button and the .exe file.
Any help is greatly appreciated. If it is an easy fix, you can tell me I'm dumb, but please give me the answer as well .

UPDATE: Tried creating the same button from a PC with the same result. The file I am trying to open from the pdf is an eMag (eMagCreator).
The mac button/eMag works fine. The PC button launches the PC eMag, but then the app stalls. The PC eMag works fine if I just double-click the file.
I also tried linking the button to different files (pdf, jpg, url, etc..) and it worked fine.
Has anyone encountered anything like this? I really can't tell if it's a problem with the button in acrobat, or the eMag .exe. Both seem to work, just not with eachother.
    thanks

  • IDCS4: Major bug creating interactive buttons

I have a number of IDCS3 files with interactive buttons which jump to a specific page of the document using bookmarks. These buttons no longer work when the file is opened in IDCS4.
In CS4, the button has a "Go to text anchor" action applied however the Text Anchor pop-up below is greyed out and says None. All the Bookmarks that I've created are present and correct. It would appear that CS4 is ignoring page bookmarks and will now only work with text anchors.
This bug is also very easy to recreate with a new document in CS4:
    1. Create a new two page document.
    2. Go to page two and add a bookmark.
    3. Go to page one, create a button and add the "Go to Anchor" action.
    4. The Text Anchor pop-up should show the bookmark that was added it step 2 but it remains greyed-out.
I've submitted this to Adobe and reverted back to using CS3 for any interactive work.
    Graham.

    Hi Sandee,
Thanks very much for confirming the bug and for the workaround however this is a lot of work for my existing projects and easier to simple update them using CS3.
Hmmmm... now, your comment "...bookmarks have never been recognized as part of making buttons." - try telling that to IDCS3, it even indicates that you've linked to a bookmark when you add a "Go to Anchor" behaviour to a button. I found this method more flexible and, to my simple way of thinking, more logical - a Bookmark goes to to a page in a document while a Hyperlink goes to a URL. For new CS4 projects I will now have to use the Hyperlink Destination (Type: Page) option instead. Oh well...
So the problem isn't insurmountable for new projects but is still a bug in that it "breaks" legacy CS3 files opened in CS4 - and that's the argument I'll focus on when I hear back from Adobe.
    Cheers, Graham.
