Identifying Oracle Shutdown or session errors
Oracle 11.1.7.0:
We need to make our application be able to accept user requests or submissions on the queue even if Oracle is down or if Oracle is having some problems. For that purpose I need to identify specific Oracle error codes. I looked up online and found Jboss's exception sorter class. It looks something like this:
public boolean isExceptionFatal(SQLException e)
String error_text = (e.getMessage()).toUpperCase();
/* Check oracle specific errors for broadcasting connectionerror
return (error_text.indexOf("ORA-00600") > -1) //Internal oracle error
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-00028") > -1) //session has been killed
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01012") > -1) //not logged on
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01014") > -1) //Oracle shutdown in progress
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01033") > -1) //Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01034") > -1) //Oracle not available
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-02396") > -1) //exceed ed maximum idle time, please connect again
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-03111") > -1) //break received on communication channel
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-03113") > -1) //end-of-file on communication channel
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-03114") > -1) //not connected to ORACLE
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01014") > -1) //Oracle shutdown in progress
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01033") > -1) //Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-01034") > -1) //Oracle not available
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-03111") > -1) //break received on communication channel
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-03113") > -1) //end-of-file on communication channel
|| (error_text.indexOf("ORA-03114") > -1) //not connected to ORACLE
|| (error_text.indexOf("TNS-") > -1) //Net8 messages
|| (error_text.indexOf("SOCKET") > -1) //for control socket error
|| (error_text.indexOf("BROKEN PIPE") > -1);
}I just wanted to check if above error codes are the correct ones. I understand there are tons of Oracle error code but I am in particular interested where Oracle is down or is having some temporary problem for eg: archiver error. I am kind of not sure of how to go about figuring this out.

I am kind of not sure of how to go about figuring this out.You can simulate these situations by
1. shutting down the instance.
2. filling the archive log destination with temporary files (which you need to clean up later).

ORA-01033 Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress error
Hi All,
I am using windows 7 on my 64-bit machine, and I installed oracle database 12c. Everything was installed fine, and i was able to connect to the HR schema. However, the next day when I wanted to connect, I got the ORA-01033 Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress error. What did I do wrong ? and what can I do to fix it ?? Thank you for the help.Sorry but there are NO SHORTCUTS!
I already answered that above and referred you to the docs and an article.
The doc chapters explain the NEW multitenant architecture in detail. The new 12c architecture is SUBSTANTIALLY different from previous architectures. Until you read the docs about it and understand how it has been implemented you will continue to have NOTHING but problems.
I know that may sound like just another RTFM but for 12c it is imperative that you understand the new architecture if you want to avoid problems. There is no way to explain it all in the forums; Oracle takes a good two chapters just to cover the basics.
I also pointed you to an article that shows how to startup the CDB and PDBs manually or write a STARTUP trigger to do it automatically.
Hopefully you are doing all of this in a VM environment as you seemingly implied in one of your other threads?
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2594464
There are already some VM templates available for 12c

Starting Oracle 11gr2 Im getting Error: ORA-03135: connection lost contact
Hi Guys!
Thanks for your advises. I still working toward a resolution.
But I encountered another issue from Enterp Manager :
ERROR : Please correct the following error: Connection string must be specified.
My connection has this format:
//using connection string attributes to connect to Oracle Database
con.ConnectionString = "User Id=scott;Password=tiger;Data Source=oracle";
con.Open();
Console.WriteLine("Connected to Oracle" + con.ServerVersion);
Please tell me what is wrong here. Thanks. Dan.

SHUTDOWN: Active sessions prevent database close operation
Fri May 11 08:04:39 2012
Since last 3 years, we never faced such a situation even though many modules (oracle Apps) were implemented from time to time. This time OTL module is going live and consultants were running some procedure during backup start time.
Even after issuing 'addbctl.sh stop immediate', how come oracle did not close all the database sessions? How to prevent such situation in future?
Any help is highly appreciated.
Regards
Arizuddinyou can first do a alter system checkpoint and then try to shutdown the database.
You can also kill all the active user sessions from v$session and then shutdown the database. -
This is already a proxy session Error
Hello,
I've been trying to get the proxy user working properly using the Server Session Uses Main Connection and Each Client Session Uses a Separate Pooled Nonexclusive Proxy Connection configuration.
Things were sort of working when I was using the native data source. By sort of working I mean the writes to the database were sent via the proxied connection, the way they were supposed to. However, there was no connection pool used and performance was VERY BAD. I switched to a connection pool, but now I get the exception below. I am also attaching other relevant code. I use Spring with the ToplinkTransactionController. The exception occurs when I try to do an update (in a transaction) selects work fine. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Oracle running but getting error
I am able to get Oracle 10.2.0.4 running on my MacBookPro 10.6.3. I am able to connect and run queries. But I am continually (every few seconds) getting a crash report (below is one example).
I did see a note about running "relink". I did, but that seemed to fail with lots of "ld: warning: directory '/lib' following -L not found" and finishing with
ld: warning: directory '/Users/ericdp/oracle/product/10.2.0/Mac10gR2/jdk/jre/Libraries/client' following -L not found
ld: warning: directory '/Users/ericdp/oracle/product/10.2.0/Mac10gR2/jdk/jre/Libraries' following -L not found
ld: library not found for -ljvm
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Thanks for quick response.I have changed into HIGH_VALUE but still coming error.
ERROR at line 2:
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got LONG
But krish what exaclty my requirement is i have to select the partition_name not High Values.I mean if u see the query TO_DATE(SUBSTR(PARTITION_NAME,2,8),'YYYYMMDD') HIGHVALUE
i am extracting the date from the partition_name.for example if partition_name is P20041231 then the output will be 12/31/2004 in date format.
i am able to get output if i will put the direct value instead of PARITION_NAME ..
that is TO_DATE(SUBSTR('P20041231',2,8),'YYYYMMDD') HIGHVALUE
pls help me to sort out this problem.
once again Thanks.

Oracle Shared Server Session Scheduling
Hi,
We're currently evaluating the shared server architecture for production use. As far as we know, Oracle schedules N sessions across M operating system threads, dependent on the configured limits.
An essential requirement for our production system is to be able to associate a given operating system thread belonging to an Oracle shared server process with a session (more specifically the session owner) and maintain this information externally. Because a shared server thread may handle multiple sessions in random order with interruption, the assumption that a given thread and its corresponding thread identifier always processes a specific session throughout the thread lifetime is incorrect, thus we cannot directly associate a thread and session via the thread identifier.
Does Oracle provide a way to be notified (native callback) before and/or after a shared server level scheduling "session context switch" so that a thread id could be used to associate a thread with a session at any given time?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
cheers,
Horst ReitererYou can realize if your database is working in shared mode through several ways:
1.- Looking the background process at the OS level
2.- Looking some init parameters and other methods
What is your OS ?

How to identify the most consumer session
Hello,
Time from time, a session or two become very consumer of resources at the point that the database cannot work normally.
My question is :
How can we identify the most consumer session :
Our aim is to send an email to our dba team to alert us.
Thanks in advance.You can try the below query for top consuming session, but as per your requirment like getting email to DBA pool - You need put some effort for writing the scripit
SET LINESIZE 500
SET PAGESIZE 1000
SET VERIFY OFF
COLUMN username FORMAT A15
COLUMN machine FORMAT A25
COLUMN logon_time FORMAT A20
SELECT NVL(a.username, '(oracle)') AS username,
a.osuser,
a.sid,
a.serial#,
c.value AS &1,
a.lockwait,
a.status,
a.module,
a.machine,
a.program,
TO_CHAR(a.logon_Time,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') AS logon_time
FROM v$session a,
v$sesstat c,
v$statname d
WHERE a.sid = c.sid
AND c.statistic# = d.statistic#
AND d.name = DECODE(UPPER('&1'), 'READS', 'session logical reads',
'EXECS', 'execute count',
'CPU', 'CPU used by this session',
'CPU used by this session')
ORDER BY c.value DESC;
For triggering email to your DBA pool you can use DBMS_JOBS / UTL_MAIL

Our XML Publisher TMP is not defined, so it uses the APPLTMP used by concurrent manager. There is a folder xdofonts/<SID> in $APPLTMP. It contains the fonts used by XML publisher and on the of font file (.ttf) was 0 byte. We copied the ttf file from QA. And it started working.
Best practice is to define diffent TMP for concurrent managers and XML Publisher.

How to monitor oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server?
Hi Experts
How to monitor the Oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server (other than SQL Developer tool), which procedure or query is taking more time with Java application.Recently i found this tool- myorasql on the net to monitor the performence of database, easy to setup and check the performence. i never tested it but seems impresive. It is free and i think it would be use ful to you.
http://myorasql.com/
You can also use Quest - Toad or sqlplus if you are very good at sql commands and all dictionary tables or OEM/EM grid if it is configured . -

With the new seession in IE gives session error for new user
Hi,
In new opened IE if i tries to login with new user. It is switching b/w the files in the status bar(ie., Header1.jsp and ListServicecall.jsp simultaneously) and at end the session error result will arise.
But for the second time if i login with the same username/password the page is displaying properly. please Can any one help out.
Thanks,
Satish RFirst time if the user logins to IE in the HP Service Desk(SD) page. Some of the pages will iteratively loops and give a session expires error. After that the user logins to the page with no error.
If i create a new copy of the data from the existing folder and if i try to run then the result will be error for that folder also.
ie., Assume folder 123 where, first time for every new login user the session expire error occurs. later they'll login without any problem.
If i rename the folder 123 to xyz/create new copy and rename then, the same problem repeats. First time for the new user it will give session expire error and later he can login to the HPSD page with no error.
Is it require cookies to be programmed in that program.
