Idl2java

Does anyone know why I'm getting the following error when running the idl2java command with the example file 'hello.idl'. I'm using Oracle 8.1.5.
D:\JavaDB>idl2java hello.idl

Tom,
The IDL2Java command should be found on your Oracle Server CD. It is not included in JDeveloper.
Hope this helps,

  • Idl2java -I option problems

    Hi,
I have a problem when I am extending an IDL of package1 from another IDL which is in package2. I am using Visibroker in my application.
    code snippet:
    //under directory myDir/package1 - file name: idl1Module.idl
    #include <idl2.idl>
    module idl1Module {
    interface idl1:idl2Module::idl2 {
    void dummyMethod ();
    //under directory myDir/package2 - file name: idl2Module.idl
    module idl2Module {
    interface idl2 {
    void method2 ();
For the above code snippets, the idl2java for idl1Module compiles fine (with -I option pointing to idl2 directory) but when vbjc compiles the java class files for idl1Module, it fails complaining that it cannot find package package1.idl2Module.idl.
But as I said, the idl2Module.idl classes are in "package2" and not in "package1".
Even the source file that gets generated from compiling package1 using idl2java do not have an import statement to import package2.*.
    the commands I am using..
    idl2java -I package2 -package package1
    vbjc -VBJCLASSPATH package2 package1/*.java
any comments as to why this error is generated ?
    thanks
    Manish

    Hi,
I'm not sure if the "#include<idl2.idl>" in idl1Module.idl was a typo and you meant "#include<idl2Module.idl>", as with this changed to idl2Module I used :
    idl2java -I package2 -package package1 */*.idl
    vbjc `find '*.java'`
and it compiled fine with no complaints. The resulting idl1.java class extends package1.idl1Module.idl1Operations and package1.idl2Modules.idl2Operations etc.
I used Visibroker 5.0 with jdk 1.3.1, if that makes any difference.
Not sure if this helps you though...

  • Idl2java failed

I install o8i on linux and apply the first patch, everything is ok, except Corba doesn't work. The problem is the idl2java can't be executed. I get the following error message:
.//idl2java: unexpected EOF while looking for ``'
    .//idl2java: .//idl2java: line 20: syntax error
could someone tell how to do with that?

    I had the same error
After editing $ORACLE_HOME/bin/idl2java and $ORACLE_HOME/bin/vbj it worked ok.
    idl2java line 6
TMP\'bla bla should be TMP='bla bla
Since I don't have whence on my system (debian) I replaced all references to 'whence' by 'which' in vbj.

  • RE: Java and Forte

We have no problem using JDK 1.1.5. However, we are using Orbixweb. If
you are accessing the applet and the IOR file from the same host (exact
host name), then one other possibility is the JVM compatibility for your
browser. Using Javasoft's Activator or appletviewer should resolve
    that.

    1. I have been able to make my Java client appllication call-in to a
Forte service object with success. However the tricky part beginswhen
I try to do the same with a Java applet. I get an exception returned
which is an AppletSecurityException. I understand that running a Java
applet in a browser has two limitations, one being the Java applet
sandbox and the firewall restriction. As I am only running my Java
applet and the Forte service object on the same node, this rules out
    the latter.
I have tried running the Gatekeeper from the same directory as myJava
client application, which includes all the client stub files
(including stub files which are generated from Forte supplier plans
such as those in the Framework folder). However, I still receive the
    AppletSecurityException.
How can I go about making this operation successful?
**AppletSecurityExceptions can be caused by many problems--trying toaccess
machines other than the class download machine, or trying to accessserver
side classes outside the defined directory structure in the webserver. I'd
look closely at the classes that are being brought into memory (forexample,
Visibroker's ORB shows you each file as it is loaded) and make sureyour web
server is defined correctly. If you follow the Forte technotesclosely, it
    usually solves this problem.
    2. Has anyone tried implementing a 'fat' client, one that combines a
Forte web application, JavaScript, and a Java applet client toperform
operations such as validation and a tiny bit of data processing allon
the client side, relieveing the application server from such
operations? If yes, how do I implement the solution, and are thereany
tech notes from Forte that specifically tell me how to do this?
**We have created a Java framework that follows many of the designpatterns
and naming conventions as our Forte framework. The Java classes canbe
extended to marshal and unmarshal scalar data structs passed acrossthe ORB
boundary to instantiate 'thick' functional objects on the client, andas much
processing and as many business rules as wanted can be developed inthe
    client
    Java objects.

If you look at the exception information in the iiop manual it
discusses exteneded propties DefaultThrowsClause, ThrowsClause and
    IsThrowable.
If you mark your exception class with IsThrowable it will show up in the
IDL as an exception. If you use either DefaultThrowsClause(project) or
ThrowsClause(method) you will get the appropriate raises in the idl.
This will cause the idl2java to produce code which will allow you to catch
    the exception.

  • Best way to use CORBA 3 with Oracle

    Hi, developers,
I was using Oracle 8i JVM with my CORBA server deployed without any problems. That was CORBA 2 with old BOA.
Now I have to implement CORBA 2.3 (I've met the "valuetype" in my new IDL definition). I've successfully compiled the IDL file with JDeveloper 9i (which uses the Visibroker's 4 idl2java compiler). The output was the heap of *.java including *POA.java files. I can not deploy them even when I use the Oracle9i database server.
    1) Can anybody show me the way (or multiple ways) to create and to run the CORBA server with POA in the Oracle environment.
    2) Is it possible to compile the IDL file (with valuetype statement) with -boa option and to use the output as it is shown in examples included in database server.
    3) Are there any good links to find the documentation which could describe the CORBA client/server developing process with the help of JDeveloper.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

Forget about using Corba with an oracle product.
I tried to connect a C++ corba client. It is supposed to work. But the guys who wrote the implementation don't work for Oracle anymore. The samples can't be compiled or linked because they use an old ORB.
Oracle support doesn't want to answer with a working solution (even if we PAY for support).
It is probably possible to use an old version of corba with java. I won't be surprised if it is dropped from a future version of the db or application server.
Try to use another solution (ejb, webservice, ...)
    Good luck,

  • Forte, iiop, and java 2 woes

We are running Forte 3L2, and Java 2. We'd like to make calls to a forte SO
from a Java client. We can configure the SO for export, and find the ior
    file.
However, the java side never seems to work. The idl compiler for JDK 1.2.x
(idltojava, downloaded from SUN) gives lots syntax errrors, these appear
without explanation on apparently good lines. The compiler for JDK 1.3.0
(idlj) only complains about some errors coming from a escaped strings, which
    I can patch around.
The java files resulting from idlj need some minor patching/renaming to
compile (Had to put some of the primitive class helpers into Framework
project manually). And then, they fail at runtime. They fail with a null
object error when run in the 1.3.0 runtime. They fail with the same CORBA
exception when run in either the JDK 1.2.2 runtime, or the naturalbridge
    native java compiled runtime.
Does anybody have a specific combination of Java 2 jvm and idl compiler
which will work with Forte? Were any specific tricks needed to make it
work? I tried the technotes, but those that I found seemed out of date for
    Java 2.

If you look at the exception information in the iiop manual it
discusses exteneded propties DefaultThrowsClause, ThrowsClause and
    IsThrowable.
If you mark your exception class with IsThrowable it will show up in the
IDL as an exception. If you use either DefaultThrowsClause(project) or
ThrowsClause(method) you will get the appropriate raises in the idl.
This will cause the idl2java to produce code which will allow you to catch
    the exception.

  • IIOP Java mode - proxy classes generation

    Hello,
I have been able to use Jave-mode for call-in from a Java client to a
Forte Server. Among the generated Java files, I observe that for each
service object, there is also an IIOP proxy class - Java file with the
_pxy name appended to the front.
for example: ServerClass is a Tool Class, and there is a service object
based on it. The "Make Distribution" process has generated the
corresponding pxyServerClass.java also. It may be that the proxy
files are generated for all Forte classes. I am not sure.
The whole scheme of things has worked perfectly well for a simple test
    project that I wrote.
But, there is another Plan, our Project's main Plan, that has some
Supplier Plans, which in turn have a few other Supplier Plans, etc, the
generated Java files does not have a single proxy class! I am unable to
figure out why. Are there places that I should look for?
In all, there are 2 DB Resouce Service Objects, 5 TOOL SOs in our
application configuration. I tried switching the Distributed property
from Allowed to IsDefault, but that didn't alter anything.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    On a related note:
    When using IDL mode...
Operator overriding is not allowed when using IDL2Java compiler of
VisiBroker. You have class B that extends A. A method is redefined may
be, with say different parameters. The .idl file won't compile, aborts
with an error "attempt to redefine operator/varialbe". I heard from a
colleague of mine (in fact I saw it compiling on his machine) that
OrbixWeb allows this. This seemed like a basic requirement, it was hard
to imagine that IDL syntax would not support that. Now, I realise that
it is a problem with Visigenic product. Have other developers come
across this problem? Is there a workaround?

    Hi Mark!!
I would suggest you to check the components created for the Interface.  The main components of an Enterprise beans are like this:
    <Interface>_PortTypeImplRemote
    <Interface>_PortTypeImplRemoteHome
    <Interface>_PortTypeImplLocal
    <Interface>_PortTypeImplLocalHome
    <Interface>_PortTypeBean
You can decompile if you have the Class file. It may be possible that the file got corrupted while creation.
Decompile the file if you have only the class file(Use DJ Compiler or JAD.exe). This will tell you whether the error is with the bytecode of the bean class.
    Cheers!!

  • Problem with Visibroker while moving to JDK 1.4 from 1.3

    Hi,
I am getting following error in Visibroker 3.4 while moving to JDK 1.4.
    Its says....
    java.lang.ClassCastException
         at com.inprise.vbroker.CORBA.portable.ObjectImpl._invoke(ObjectImpl.java:60)
I have compiled my IDLs with Visibroker(idl2java) and using those stubs clsses as external jar, also with Visibroker jars (vbjapp.jar and vbjorb.jar) took it from Visibrokers lib directory.
Its working fine with jdk 1.3....
Other stubs classes are tested and working fine with 1.3.
Do we need to get the new Jar for VBJ?
can any one throw some light on this, Pls share your experience, in case you came across such problem.
    It would be great help
    Thanx in advance
    /GSaha

    Hi,
I'm not sure, but I suspect the following happened:
Visibroker 3.4 was targeted for J2SE 1.0 and 1.1 platforms. It probably includes a lot of org.omg.CORBA classes that weren't in J2SE at the time, so the JVM picked them up from the Borland jars.
In J2SE 1.4, a lot of these classes are in the platform, so are loaded from the JDK rather than the classpath. Also, it's been a long time since J2SE 1.1. Things are added to the J2SE platform from the OMG specs when they are stable. There are probably differences between the Borland ones from the days of J2SE 1.1 and the ones in the J2SE 1.4 JDK, thus the ClassCastException.
Try overriding the bootclasspath with -Xbootclasspath so the JVM picks up the Borland jars first and overrides the org.omg.CORBA classes in rt.jar. There's a new way to do this for standards outside of Java such as OMG classes called the "preferred classes" or "preferred classpath", but I can't seem to remember how to do it. (You're not supposed to deploy applications with -Xbootclasspath solutions anymore.)

is is possible to generate IDL code from Java Code, Classes, UML, ... using JDeveloper?
I know this is somewhat reverse engeneering, but it would speed up the migration of our existing Java project...Unfortunately it does not. The IDL to Java conversion is handled under the covers by the idl2java.exe included with the database. You might want to search on google for a IDL generator from java source.
java2iiop (another tool) just generates IIOP stubs from classes and interfaces, but I don't think it creates IDL.

  • Re: Errors compiling the rmi-iiop example.

As I said, apparently, you are trying to compile the IDL client in java using the RMI client classes. THere are two problems with this:
1-- you must compile the rmi class definitions into a directory that can be easily excluded from the class path at the time you compile the idl definitions.
2-- the idl definitions and the resulting classes are useless wrt the rmi definitions and wls, so the resulting classes must be compiled into directories other than those used by wls and the rmi clients.
Another way to look at this is as follows:
To compile the rmi definitions, you do:
    set ORIGINALCLASSPATH=CLASSPATH
    set CLASSPATH=../fooclasses;$CLASSPATH
    javac -d ../fooclasses rmi/FooImpl.java
    Then,
-- you compile the jrmp classes as:
    rmic -d ../jrmpclasses rmi.FooImpl
-- you compile the weblogic classes as:
    java weblogic.rmic -d ../wlsclasses rmi.FooImpl
that is, you are allowed to compile from the same implementation class so long as it is compliant
-- you compile the rmi-iiop classes as:
    java weblogic.rmic -iiop -d ../rmiiiopclasses rmi.FooImpl
that is, as with jrmp and wls, the rmi-iiop classes share the same base type definitions and implementation.
However, the idl classes are another matter. To compile the idl classes, you must generate the idl, generate the java files and generate the idl class files into another, separate directory, one which does not include any of ../fooclasses, ../jrmpclasses, ../wlsclasses or ../rmiiiopclasses
    directories.
    That is,
    java weblogic.rmic -idlDirtecory ../idl ...
    set CLASSPATH=ORIGINALCLASSPATH
    set CLASSPATH=../idlclasses;CLASSPATH
    cd ../idl
    idl2java rmi/Foo.idl
    javac -d ../idl rmi/*.java
    Hope this helps...

As I said, apparently, you are trying to compile the IDL client in
java using the RMI client classes. THere are two problems with this:
1-- you must compile the rmi class definitions into a directory that
can be easily excluded from the class path at the time you compile the
    idl definitions.
2-- the idl definitions and the resulting classes are useless wrt the
rmi definitions and wls, so the resulting classes must be compiled
into directories other than those used by wls and the rmi clients.
Another way to look at this is as follows:
To compile the rmi definitions, you do:
    set ORIGINALCLASSPATH=CLASSPATH
    set CLASSPATH=../fooclasses;$CLASSPATH
    javac -d ../fooclasses rmi/FooImpl.java
    Then,
-- you compile the jrmp classes as:
    rmic -d ../jrmpclasses rmi.FooImpl
-- you compile the weblogic classes as:
    java weblogic.rmic -d ../wlsclasses rmi.FooImpl
that is, you are allowed to compile from the same implementation class
so long as it is compliant
-- you compile the rmi-iiop classes as:
    java weblogic.rmic -iiop -d ../rmiiiopclasses rmi.FooImpl
that is, as with jrmp and wls, the rmi-iiop classes share the same
    base type definitions and implementation.
However, the idl classes are another matter. To compile the idl
classes, you must generate the idl, generate the java files and
generate the idl class files into another, separate directory, one
which does not include any of ../fooclasses, ../jrmpclasses,
    ../wlsclasses or ../rmiiiopclasses directories.
    That is,
    java weblogic.rmic -idlDirtecory ../idl ...
    set CLASSPATH=ORIGINALCLASSPATH
    set CLASSPATH=../idlclasses;CLASSPATH
    cd ../idl
    idl2java rmi/Foo.idl
    javac -d ../idl rmi/*.java
    Hope this helps...

  • Re: idltojava compiler not working

Sorry I don't know which java forum this belongs to.
But basically it is my first CORBA program i.e Hello.idl from sun tutorial.
I have downloaded the idl compiler from the sun website and when I run the command
    D:\Westminster\Internet-Programming\sunTutorial\corba\testHelloWorl>idltojava HelloApp.idl
    Bad command or file name
It returns with bad command or filename why???
when I run the idltojava without the filename is gives me bad command or filename as well. Please help
    idltojava Bad command or filename
    I am new to programming.
I thing that the problem may be due to that command is not in executable path??
    How do I do this?
If this sounds basic, please excuse me.

I think there may be a problem with idltojava compiler
Please use idlj, which should be located in your
    jdk\bin directory.
Note that I am using Visibroker ORB, so I am suing their compiler(idl2java), which is different because it
contains proprietary features. However I ahve tried
idlj, which comes with the standard installation of
    jdk1.3X.
    Here my example run:
    module HelloApp
         interface Hello
              string sayHello();
    C:\Test>idlj -verbose Hello.idl
    Parsing Hello.idl
    done - Hello.idl
    Generating HelloApp
    done - HelloApp
    Resuting files are:
    HelloHolder.java
    HelloHelper.java
    _HelloStub.java
    Hello.java
    HelloOperations.java
idltojava may be too old and probable deprecated... but
I have not read anything to that effect from Sun
    =====================================
I have downloaded the idltojava compiler from the link
from Sun Tutorial page at ...idltojava.html
I have extracted it put it in my bin directory
i.e. where class path has been set up:
this is my setting under autoexec.bat file:
    C:\>SET
    PATH=C:\BC5\BIN;C:\JDK1.2\BIN;C:\VISUAL~1\BIN;C:\VISUAL
    1\JAVA\BIN;C:\VI
    SUAL~1\BIN;C:\VISUAL~1\JAVA\BIN;C:\VisualCafe\BIN;C:\Vi
    ualCafe\JAVA\BIN
Now when you go to c:\jdk1.2\bin the idltojava
    compiler is clearly there.
Here is the problem I get when I try to compile the
    program:
    D:\Westmin\corba>idltojava Hello.idl
    Bad command or file name
    Couldn't open temporary file
    C:\JDK1.2\BIN\IDLTOJ~1.EXE: fatal error: cannot

  • COMPILE IDL TO JAVA

    Hi!
I'm working with IDL, but when I try to compile an IDL file to obtain a Java file.
    I obtain the next error:
'idltojava' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I tried to compile the IDL file in the command promt, and later in Visual Age for Java. But always obtain the same error message.
    What's is the problem?
    A lot of Thanks!

    Try the command idl2java.
