Idvd3 wont burn dvds now

I have a power mac G4 in which idvd has been causing me trouble all weekend. First I couldn't even open it up without it freezing everthing else up.. I fixed that by trashing the idvdplist and opening a new user account. Now I can't burn a dang dvd I get this message, The error #-2147352539 was reported...after it starts to burn. I'm not using verbatim disks as it suggests in other posts but using TDK. I've burned 5-6 dvds before all this occured using TDK. Any suggestions??

I just burned 5 dvds the other day with no problem.
TDK don't have a good track record with me - I tried 3 and 2 produced coasters so I've given up on them.
I'm using QT 6.4
Good!

Hi and welcome to the discussions!
    Google is your friend...
I found this on a Roxio forum, but it offers the best advice I have seen anywhere about this error.
Basically, it is most likely the media or the speed you are trying to burn at. It could be a few other things, but those are the most likely culprits.

  • It's shutting off for no reason, wont burn dvd 1260ux

I have a hp pavilion dv7-1260us and it came with vista but stupid me put on windows 7 which so far was a good thing, I did have a little problem of having to put all the drivers back and that was crappy because I had to put in 32 bit and 64 bit and now my dvd burner won't burn anything, i have the covert dvd x program and i've even tried just burning from the desktop and it gets to the end and says something is wrong or that I need the firmware updated but when I try to run the device manager it says everything is fine, but nothing is fine because it doesn't want to burn and it was fine two weeks ago and then bam out of nowhere it just stops. I tried reinstalling all the drivers, but I can't find the firmware for the dvd burner and now it's just shutting off. I was running World of Warcraft and I thought at first it was hot because the fan came and then it just shut off, and it was long time it was on. But then it died just after an hour of playing. I don't know much about computers so i'm freaking out. I got this computer used but it was still new in the box, the guy was trustworthy, but I"m so dissapointed in this, its' supposed to be a good computer and now it sucks. Help please please....I'm sorry if this the wrong place to post this, I don't know what to do.

I need anykind of help, could it be my computer just sucks, or could it be that the firmware does need to be reinstalled  but how come I can't find anything for my blue ray dvd player burner, and why would the computer just shut of playing a game, that makes no sense.

  • Burned DVD, now want it back!

I burned several DVDs though iDVD and made several masters and deleted the original movie to clear some space. Now some of those masters aren't playing fluidly on some, if not all, DVD players. I would like to bring it back onto my desktop to save in Quicktime or something comparable just so I have a compressed electronic version of this DVD in case the DVD itself is the problem (low quality brand possibly). Any suggestions on how to do this? I tried inserting the DVD but didn't see an option to "share" or "export" from the actual DVD. Is this possible?

Mike's suggestion matches your question. But, I'm wondering if a disc image of a bad disc would repeat the burn errors -- you could try it and see if there's a difference. From a technical perspective, I'd be interested in opinions whether taking the video back to Quicktime could rescue video from a bad disc (although one would have to accept some small quality degredation from uncompressing and recompressing the video).
txmacgirl - you'll see the process explained in the forums for using MPEG Streamclip along with Apple's MPEG2 plugin to go through the latter process.

i thought i might of been the disk that i was trying to backup so i tried one that i've done before and it done the same.
However saying all that ive just tried a dvd+rw disk with shrink dvd i burnt the film fine no errors and it played fine in a home dvd player and my lite on dvdrom
i've noticed in this forum that a few people are having the same problem as me there dvd writer is the dr8-a ?????? is there any connection

  • Satellite Pro L500 wont burn DVD

I have TWO Satellite Pro L500 laptops with a TSSTCorp TS-L633C DVD-RW Drive. BOTH exhibit the same problem - burning a DVD fails during the finalising process, regardless of what speed you burn at.
    Burning CD's works fine.
The blank DVD's burn fine on a Satellite L500D laptop using the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20N drive, and also on another Satellite Pro L500 that is using a Pioneer drive.
Both laptops having issues are running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, but nothing else other than the software that comes with the laptop. Both are new straight out of the box. Driver is current version driver, from what I can find out.
Any suggestions? When one laptop showed the problems I thought it may be the drive, but now 2 laptops from totally different stores showing the exact same problem?
    Thanks.

The problem is that disabling file verify doesn't resolve the issue as the disc is unreadable after burning.
*I have now solved the issue*
*It seems the TS-L633 drives do not work well with lower speed discs.*
Where EVERY other computer, including a Satellite Pro and Satellite using different drives, will detect the lower speed DVD's and burn appropriately, the TSSCorp drive does not and hence errors due to burning the disc at too high a speed.
The drive worked fine when higher speed discs were used.
Examining the problem discs I believe they were 2x discs, which as stated worked fine in all other computers where the computer detected the lower speed and changed the burn speed to 2x, however the TS-L633 drive would not allow less than 3x burn speed, and tried to burn at 8x. This obviously created a problem!
So, anyone having DVD burning issues with a Satellite laptop using the TSSTcorp TS-L633C drive, try changing the blank media to something capable of higher burn speeds!
Thank you to all that suggested solutions. I have also passed this info along to Toshiba Support as I feel this may be an issue they need to either resolve or note for future users, as there is no doubt slower speed DVD's will be used in these devices!

  • Super drive wont burn dvds

when i click the burn symbol the disc will eject and say error 34, start up disc is full. i have 80 gb on my computer and 75 are used up. i have just had a new drive put in aswell as apple store said other one was stuffed. how can i unfill the start up disc and make work? thanks for any info on this, LC.

    Lydon,
Per Narya's message, I don't think you have 6gb available....but there are several ways to confirm that. Since you have used Disk Utilities let's stick with that method...when you open Disk Utility any mounted disk, such as a hard drive, will be displayed. The first line is the mfr's model, etc along with the max capacity of the drive. The second line is the name you've give the HD. If you click the name, you will see the information at the bottom of that window display, among others, the Capacity, Available, and Used. Please confirm what you have available.
In terms of freeing up space there a number things you can do. The easiest is to make sure you have emptied your trash bin(Cntrl-Click the Trash Bin and click 'Empty Trash'). See how much space is available now.
So what's the deal with your other Hard drive...you mentioned in your first post? Is it external? Details.
Re. Maintenance scripts..there are many posts on this topic...you can do via terminal or there's freeware that automates the job. OSX actually does this stuff but your computer needs to be on when the job is scheduled. Otherwise it will not run. So here are a few that allow you to schedule/run the scripts in a much easier fashion:

  • HELP - Drive Wont Burn DVDs

I've recently transferred a video tape to iMovie, and then shared it to iDVD. The first time I saved it as a disc image and then went to burn it to a DVD with Disc Utility. Each time I tried, I was instructed to insert a blank disc, and then once I did, I it changed the message to 'waiting for drive'. After about a minute, it spit the disc out with no explanation. I then tried to burn a disc directly from iDVD with the same results.
This is a procedure that I've performed countless times, with no problems. I'm using blank Verbatim 8x discs. I've inserted both audio and data discs in the drive, and it seems to be reading them, so I know the drive is spinning and reading. What might the problem be, and what can I do to correct it?

"This is a procedure that I've performed countless times, with no problems."
Using Verbatim 8x discs? I use 16x w/o any issues what-so-ever. Sometimes a simple restart and/or repairing permissions & restarting the computer cures CD/DVD drive hiccups.
Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

  • Error when burning DVD RW (Error Code 0x8002006E)

Works with DVD +R, -R, CDR... but it wont burn DVD+RW for some reason
I had this problem 3 years ago when it refused to burn CDs, and I had my ODD replaced with one of these
    MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-857E:
      Firmware Revision:          ZF1E
      Interconnect:          ATAPI
Burn Support:          Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
      Cache:          2048 KB
      Reads DVD:          Yes
      CD-Write:          -R, -RW
      DVD-Write:          -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
      Write Strategies:          CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media:          Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
So here I am again having the same problem - 'burning the disk failed because an unexpected error occured (Error Code 0x8002006E)
I tried both burning from Finder and disk utiilty. I tried quickly erasing the data on it, which was nothingnd when I tried to burn something it threw up this error -  'The disk can't be burned, because the devide failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media' (their bad grammer not mine)
So what is this a software problem or another faulty ODD?
I ran a hardware test recently and no problems were identified.

I just tried it again using a different account, same problem. I was burning DVD+Rs already today, then I went out and bought a packet of discs from tesco DVD+RW and they wont burn no matter which way I try it. I remember having this problem with Tesco CDRs 3 years ago when I sent my macbook in for repair, but I think I have used tesco discs since thren without problems. I've had trouble on two occasions reading music CDs as well + the drive is sluggish and noisy when inserting/ejecting discs.
Finding a lot of threads on this and not really much in the way of solutions. At best I've been able to ascertain that the problem is probably software related owing to the error code.
I don't know what else to try. I hope tesco take back this stack of discs that's probably got nothing wrong with them, I doubt Apple will refund me.
This computer has just turned out to be an endless source of problems and headaches.

  • I have a Power Mac G4. I have previously burned DVDs with no problem.  Now I get an error message stating it doesn't recognize the disc and an error

I have a Power Mac G4 with OX 10.4.11.  I have previously burned DVDs with no problem.  Now I've gotten two different sets of messages.  One states that
the disc is not readable and an error code: 0x8002006D.  The more recent message states the disc is incompatible and an error code: 0x80020025.
What is going on?  I need to burn discs immediately for a conference next week.

"The more recent message states the disc is incompatible and an error code: 0x80020025."
The error (0x80020025) refers to an unsupported drive (not disk).  I've read about relaunching the Finder to correct the problem.  Choose "Force Quit" from the Apple Menu and then choose "Finder." Click "Relaunch" and see if the drive still produces the error.  If there's no change, I'd be tempted to replace the drive.

  • Dvd wont burn movie all the way

The dvd is 4.7 GB and the movie is 4.1 the dvd wont burn the whole movie it stops a little before the movie is over. HOw do we burn a long movie onto dvd?

What is the total playing time of your movie? iDVD 5 has a 120 minute limit, including menus, in the Best Quality setting or a 60 minute limit in the Best Performance setting. The size of the files is not the determining factor, just the playing time.

  • How can I burn a dvd now that I can't download premiere pro cs6 with Encore?

How can I burn a dvd now that I can't download premiere pro cs6 with Encore?

Here's what you do to get Premiere CS6 + Encore:
Just click here (it's the same link as the more information link in CC.)
    or
Go to your Creative Cloud application (on the menu bar) and go to Adobe Premiere CC and click more information
There is a dropdown menu that says "Adobe Premiere Pro CC" near the top.
Click it and the other option is "Adobe Premiere Pro CS6."  Select that.
Now on the top right corner of the page it has a download button that says "Download Adobe Premiere Pro CS6."
It is included in your CC subscription.
However, a word of warning, you cannot use Adobe Dynamic Link to link to a Premiere CC sequence directly in Encore.  A CS6 sequence still works fine, but if you have a CC project, you will need to encode your sequence into a DVD friendly format (MPEG2 file).  I'm really hoping that Adobe changes this in their upcoming release, and just adds the ability to import CC sequences into Encore, then I would be fine with them not including it in the normal CC package, or updating it.  But I haven't seen anything about it in the release notes.
A lot of people still want their DVDs and it's a lot easier to just dynamically link the sequence.

  • Upgraded to leoperd now I can't burn DVD's

Doesn't a compatible version of iDVD come w/ leoperd? Do I have to buy iLife too? Wouldn't someone have told me this when I was at the store buying the leoperd disc? Is there something I did wrong in the installation process?

Hi JDM and welcome to the forums!
Doesn't a compatible version of iDVD come w/ leoperd
The then current version of the iLife applications are included when you buy a new Mac with Leopard pre-installed.
Do I have to buy iLife too
Yes, if you want to upgrade to a newer version than the one that came with your Mac.
Wouldn't someone have told me this when I was at the store buying the leoperd disc?
Not if you didn't ask about iLife!
I deduce that your Mac did not have Leopard pre-installed when you bought it and that you purchased the Leopard install disk to upgrade from Tiger.
Is there something I did wrong in the installation process?
Possibly, if you have lost the ability to burn DVDs.
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac, or even re-installing them, will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338
(Just using Tiger as an example) Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version you are installing. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3, and when you have upgraded to Leopard.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
