IE7 iframe fix

I am having a problem getting an Authorware web piece to play
in IE7. It worked fine with IE6.
I have tried moving the piece to an iframe (as suggested in
these forums); but it still isn't working.
Are there other work-arounds that I should try? If not, could
someone post a detailed example of the iframe fix, to verify that I
am implementing it correctly?
Thanks

The 'iframe fix' is only a fix to get the ReadURL function to
work
properly in IE7, largely in relation to
ReadURL("javascript...")
functions > and those largely for SCORM communication.
Is that the problem you're having with your A'ware
application and IE7
or is the issue more 'getting the piece to play' at all? If
not the
former, then the iframe approach likely won't help.
What specific problems are you having with the application
playing in IE7?

  • IE6SP2 /  IE7  swf fix

I found the following MSDN registry fix which resolved the
issue of IE7 not loading (viewing) .swf flash files. I accomplished
BOTH registry changes, however the second one fixed the problem. As
indicated below MSDN will have a follow up KN article on this
issue. This is an IE7 Security issue not present in previous
versions. Here is a link to the MSDN Internet Explorer Developement
forum. I used iexplore.exe as the process name for both reg edits.
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=877645&SiteID=1
I suggest Adobe look into this. There are hundreds of
inqueries/blogs online and this is the only fix I have found. I
posted here to get the widest distribution.
    Regards,
    Dave
A KB article is coming out shortly about this issue. However,
    here's the short version:
This error is occurring because of an unforeseen dependency
between an IE6 XPSP2 security feature (Local Machine Zone Lockdown)
and a new IE7 security feature designed to protect users from
improper cross-domain access to their local file system. Until the
dependency is corrected, users may correct the problem through one
    of two possible workarounds (below).
    Workaround:
Two options are available—each option has a potential
side-effect. The first option is to opt-in the 3rd party
application into the Local Machine Zone Lockdown feature control
key. This is the recommended option. It allows the 3rd party
application experiencing the problem to be more secure by
tightening restrictions on several URL actions that make the local
file system zone more protected than the Internet Zone (this has
potential compatibility implications). Users should read
Compatibility in IE6 for Windows XP SP2 under the section Local
Machine Zone Lockdown, for more information.
To opt-in to Local Machine Zone Lockdown:
    1. Click “Start”, “Run”.
    2. Enter “regedit”
    3. Find and select the following registry entry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SOFTWARE
    Microsoft
    Internet Explorer
    MAIN
    FeatureControl
    FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN
    4. Click “Edit”, “New”, and
    “DWORD”
    5. The name should be set to the process name of the
application experiencing the problem. For example, if the
    application is mybrowser.exe, then enter
    “mybrowser.exe” (without the quotes)
    6. The Value (double-click on the newly created entry) should
be set to “1” (this opts the process into this feature,
    enabling the workaround)
    7. Close the Registry Editor
    8. Close all open instances of the affected process (and IE)
    and restart the program.
The second option is to opt-out of the new cross-domain
protection feature (which blocks access to scripts on the local
file system). Opting your application out of this feature leaves it
vulnerable to web sites that may scan your computer looking for
script files or other information. If your application is designed
to host arbitrary content, this option is not recommended.
To opt-out of the cross-domain protection feature:
    1. Click “Start”, “Run”.
    2. Enter “regedit”
    3. Find and select the following registry entry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SOFTWARE
    Microsoft
    Internet Explorer
    MAIN
    FeatureControl
    4. Click “Edit”, “New”, and
    “Key”
    5. Enter FEATURE_BLOCK_LMZ_SCRIPT
    6. Next, click “Edit”, “New”, and
    “DWORD”
    7. The name should be set to the process name of the
application experiencing the problem. For example, if the
    application is mybrowser.exe, then enter
    “mybrowser.exe” (without the quotes)
    8. The Value (double-click on the newly created entry) should
be set to “0” (this opts the process out of this
    feature, enabling the workaround)
    9. Close the Registry Editor
    10. Close all open instances of the affected process (and IE)
    and restart the program.

  • Flash Shuts Down IE7 - Any fix?

I'm sorry if this is already the subject of a thread - I looked and couldn't find it.
For the past month or two I suddenly and without warning of any kind get a message that IE7 has experienced a problem and must shut down.  A couple of seconds later all windows and tabs that are open close and a message appears to tell me that the culprit was an add on - Flash10.ocx (or words to that effect)  I'm running vista home premium on a new HP laptop with plenty of memory and speed.  Internet Explorer and all other microsoft and hp programs are set to update automatically so I am completely up to date.  I didn't have the problem before a couple of months ago but now it's irritating.
I disabled the flash reader but I don't know if that's successful or not since some sites won't load unless I enable the reader.  That means I'll go a few days without a problem but then have to enable the reader again and then get the problem again a couple of days later.
I realize the reader is free and I don't like to complain but - it seems Adobe may have taken over the world.  That means, whether I like it or not, I've GOT to use the reader in many cases.  Therefore, it seems Adobe should do something to fix the problem.  Unless, of course, I'm the only one having the problem.  I doubt that, though - I've got a pretty good computer and no other problems.
Any idea a non-nerd might put to use?
    Thanks

no it only does it when I have some content. it doesn't have
to be much, a few picture files and text. I can't export to
quicktime either but I can export to avi.

  • HTML iframe - fixed size

The report is integrated into a HTML iframe. The size in the output of BI Publisher is fixed to 500px (pixels) and this leads to a small window, which uses only half of the space on the screen.
    iframe style="display:block;width:100%;overflow:auto;height:500" scrolling="yes" frameborder="0" name="xdo-bin-body" id="xdo-bin-body"
Is it possible to change/customize this parameter?
    Thanks very much

Are you talking about the rendering of the report in the serve application? IF so the height can be controlled by an Admin in the server settings in the Admin tab

  • Authorware/Scorm/LMS KO/iframe/IE7 for Dummies

I need some help, i recently built a course for delivery in
Moodle but i am getting baffled by the LMS knowledge object and
getting it to work within IE7.
I understand the problem, or at least i think i do, but i am
having a hard time finding how to implement the iframe workaround,
i need some sort of Authorware/Scorm/LMS KO/iframe/IE7 for Dummies?
I have tested the pieces on IE6 and they work fine, with
Firefox 2 and Netscape 9 nothing happens at all, i just get a blank
white API and with IE7 it hangs for a while before getting the LMS
    could not initialize notification.
I have downloaded Andrew Cheney's photography example and
that works with IE6 and 7 but i cant seem to duplicate the magic he
    posesses.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gareth Edwards

Just to follow up a little, i understand i need to implement
the iframe workaround but what is it??????
i have been scouring forums for days now, i've read many many
many many postings pointing me to to the iframe fix but i am yet to
find one explained in enough detail for me to understand.
Somebody help me please, i promise i will never use
authorware again once i've done this.

  • IE7, Auth 7, Player 2004 error

We are now also having some of our (Auth 7- Player 2004)
users going to IE7 and getting errors. But the only error they are
    getting is the:
"...File ___.aam cannot be opened because the following
error occurred: file is damaged or not an Authorware file."
This error seems to only occur when using IE7 with
    Authorwrae Player 2004.
The Authorware programs have not been updated at all and were
running smoothly with pre IE7. The only change is users going to
IE7. The only way we have found to fix this is to go back to
Authorware Player 7 and not use the 2004 player with a user is in
    IE7.
A couple of things we found about IE7.
    1. We tried to do a test just to make sure it was not our
manifest file that was causing the error when running with the 2004
Player. We tried to download the Player directly from Macromedia -
but then found that the Install there would not recognize IE7 as an
IE/ActiveX browser and would only try to download a Netscape
    compatible browser.
    2. Also, just a note for those using php and other scripting
files - I noticed the post about ReadURL and IE7. We are using
ReadURL with php files and have not had any problems with it. and
IE7. But again, that is using the old player.
Any thoughts? Is everyone else able to run their Auth 7
pieces in IE7 using the 2004 Player?
    Julia Belinski

Did you try to implement the iFrame fix while using the 2004
    webplayer?
Once we implemented the fix, our online apps have not had any
    problems.

  • Unable to turn on Advanced Search for viewing PDFs (v9.1) through IE7

Our company is currently using Acrobat 9.1 and Internet Explorer 7.
We have multiple PDF document sets set up to be searched using index files. The Index feature can only be accessed using the Advanced Search option of Acrobat Reader or Pro 9.1.
When we access the documents via our internal network, the advanced searching works fine. We can easily set the user's Acrobat Reader (or Writer) to have the Advanced Search option enabled.
However, if our users try to access these documents via our company's intranet web pages, the Acrobat Reader Interface plug-in (acropdf.dll?) of IE7 is fixed to only use the Basic Search option. Users are only able to search the active PDF.  I have not found a way to enable the the Advanced Search option using the Adobe / IE7 interface.
Not that long ago, we thought this option was available.
Is there a way to turn this feature on or at least allow it to be enabled?
    Thanks Much!

    Hello,
This may be of interest to anyone whose had the Advanced Search Problem (or the mis-linking problem mentioned below) using the current Acrobat Plugin to IE7.
I think I have found a workaround for this problem (and another we've found). I've been having users test this out over the past couple of weeks and it's working fine.
    Problem #1
Being unable to use index searching across multiple documents with the Acrobat Reader 9.1 plug-in interface running from within Internet Explorer version 7.0.    This current plug-in interface disallows setting up the Advanced Index Search feature that groups within our company use.
    Problem #2
Links in PDF A are not properly linking to desired pages (link targets) in PDF B.  Any links in PDF A will only take the user to Page 1 of PDF B.   This occurs when any PDF links to a certain page (other than page 1) in another targeted PDF.
    Solution:
Set the user's (many users in my case) Acrobat Reader (or Pro) to only open web based PDFs into the stand-alone Acrobat interface using the Accessibility Setup Assistant.
    In Adobe Reader:
Go to Document | Accessibility Setup Assistant.
Advance through the dialogs to Screen 5 of 5.
Turn OFF the feature Display PDF documents in web browser.
         Select Done.
         Exit Adobe reader.
    In Adobe Acrobat Pro:
Go to Advanced | Accessibility | Setup Assistant ...
Advance through the dialogs to Screen 5 of 5.
Turn OFF the feature Display PDF documents in web browser.
         Select Done.
    Result:
Any PDFs embedded in a web page (environment) will open up in a new session of Acrobat (Reader or Pro) on the users desktop.
Searching via indexes works great and there are no linking problems between PDFs.
It may not be an optimal solution, but is working fine for our folks that access our files via our company's intranet.
The only drawback I see is that you lose focus of the IE7 session and have to work outside of it's containment.  Although it is easy to set it back to the way it worked previously.
If anyone has any questions or comments, please let me know.  I'm open to any improvements we can make to our process.
    Thanks!
    Dave

  • Frozen at 'Initializing'

I am working with a third party vendor to incorporate our Authorware courses into their LMS.  They are able to load the courses using IE7 but when launching they just sit at 'Initializing' and the course never loads.  We have implemented the iframe fix and the same packaged files work perfectly in another one of our client's LMS.  They do not have pop up blockers turned on.  Does anyone have any ideas of what the issue may be?
    Thanks!

Thank you for your help so far - I'm hoping we're getting close....I had the client configure the following, although they said their server would not accept u32.:
    Extension
    MIME Type
    aam
    application/x-authorware-map
    aas
    application/x-authorware-seg
    aab
    application/x-authorware-bin
    x32
    application/x-authorware-bin
    u32
    application/x-authorware-bin
    vox
    application/x-authorware-bin
How do I know exactly which types they need on their server?  Am I missing some?  I'm assuming they need u32, if they do, what do they need to do to get their server to accept it?

  • ReadURL bug in Opera 11

    Hi all,
in Opera 11 JavaScript functions do not return a value anymore! Calling the JS-function from Authorware is possible. The JS-function is processed but then the ReadUrl function runs into the timeout and no return value is sent to Authorware. It is similar to the IE7-bug some years ago. Does anyone know of this behavior? Any workaround?
    Thanks
    Manfred

If the issue is truly the same as the one encountered in IE7 then the iFrame fix may take care of it for Opera 11...

  • Bug in Internet Explorer 7

There is an apparent bug in IE 7 (which I have reported to
    Microsoft).
In drop-down menus (mm_menus) if you have text with a hyphen
such as "e-mail" IE 7 drops all the text displayed in the browser
following the hyphen. For example, "Join our e-mail list" display
as "Join our e". The constuction with the hyphen works on all other
browers (Firefox, Opera, Netscape, and IE other than version 7).
This is simply a friendly alert. If you are creating new
pages avoid the hyphen until MS gets around to fixing the problem.

  • Spry Accordion in Internet Explorer 6 - panel visibility

I am totally in love with the ease of Dreamweaver and these sprys I could not do my fancy eyecandy stuff without it.
Sadly I must check that our Grandma Internet Explorer 6 works with my page.
I have a spy accordion and I have removed all colors and put it in a div that has a background image.
When you click on a tab and a panel slides down then as it slides in FF or IE7/8 the text of the panel is revealed progressively.
In IE6 ALL of the text of the panel is immediately revealed and then the sliding down action happens.  Similarly when you close it the sliding up action happens first and then the panel text dissappears.  As I said it only happens with IE6.
I am wondeing what I need to do to fix this.  I am sorry but I do not have a live version of my page.

Glad to know that you have fixed the problem.
I have checked the compatibility of spry and the ie7.js fix JavaScript files, and there was some compatibility issues in the past, but these (should have), been fixed.
The problems with messing up the display in IE6, are probably caused by IE6's css usage being brought into line with the standard css usage, which will cause problems for many if you do not know about them.
To help you with future IE problems here is a link showing most (if not all) know problems with the IE browsers.
http://www.positioniseverything.net/index.php, the link for IE only problems is under, 'browser specific bug demos'.
    Hope this is helpfull.

  • WRT300N v1 Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

An intermittent problem occurs where occasionally during browsing the web I'll get an Internet Explorer "cannot display the webpage" and then I reload the page and often it works on the reload.  The problem is very frequent and so nearly every webpage I try to open I have to reload in order to access it.
A temporary fix is unplugging the WRT300N v1 and plugging it back in.  For a while, it works fine, but eventually the problem creeps up again.
    I have firmware v 1.03.3
I've got two laptops, one Mac running OS 10.x and one Dell running Vista.  I also have a desktop PC running XP.  The two laptops use the wireless connection.  The PC uses a wired connection.  All 3 computers experience this same problem browsing web pages.
I've  read the forums and mostly I've seen people talking about problems with the WRT300N v1 as far as the wireless connection, but this time I'm having issues even with the wired connection, so I feel that this issue isn't addressed, or at least I haven't found where it was addressed.
How do I fix this issue permanently?

I too am having the same problem. I used another system with IE7 installed and found that many sites that were "unable to be displayed" were accessed with IE7 on a differant computer system running Windows XP.
I realize it could be a router thing as well....but after i went through all the tech help i could find online it still did not solve the problem. I decided to work it out myself.
I found my solution when trying to go to sites with mp3 files on them.  Thats when i discovered that with Windows Vista I had to manually select what program applications would be used to perform IE7 features (webpage content) in order for the pages to load properly.
To do this in Windows Vista - just go to Start / Program Defaults / Set Program Access and defaults  From there you can select which programs to open if IE7 cant handle the file extention on its on.  That was my problem all along.
You may have to go as far as setting your file associations in Windows Explorer.  Windows Vista had set the file extension .php to open with Windows Photo Gallery.
I am still going through all the file types and finding file extentions that are configured wrong within Windows Vista.
UPDATE:  I had problems opening webpages from links from online searches that were within various forums and also on websites that required a login but popup a separate window to login to.  I don't know if you have the same problem with these sites.
I uninstalled a Windows Update (kb927143) and can now access those.  I know this could be risky but I still have my firewall and antivirus running. Until IE7 is fixed its the only choice I have.
To do this in Vista....go to Control Panel ... Programs and Features...then click view installed updates.  You will find it there if you have it installed.  From there you can uninstall it.
Hope this helps you to solve your problem.

  • Notification plugin

    Hi,
I'm having a small issue with the notification plugin on apex 4.1
Whenever this plugin is used in an application (so after a notification is placed on a screen) the developer tools disappear from my browser window after I switch to a new page. This is probably due to the fact that my development session is terminated, because if I try to go back to the development environment via the browsers back button I am required to login again before I can do anything.
Anybody having the same issue and maybe a fix ?
    Cheers
    Bas

    Hi Bas,
my college Anthony has identified the cause why the Builder session is getting invalidated, it's because of the following CSS setting in apex.jquery.gritter.css
    .gritter-item-wrapper {
         position:relative;
         margin:0 0 10px 0;
         background:url('.'); /* ie7/8 fix */
    url('.') is causing the issue.
He is currently checking how he has fixed that in the past and we will provide an updated version of the plug-in as soon as possible. As a workaround you might be able to just remove the background:url('.') from the CSS file.
    We will keep you updated
