What the hell am I doing wrong?

        BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("aFile.txt"));
        String line, antenna;
        while ((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
               antenna = line.substring(19, 20);
               System.out.println(antenna);
               if (antenna == "3") {

    Now, this isn't programme specific as it's affecting all our BI Publisher reports. Also the specific report I am working on has the option to email. I'm finding that the emails still work and when I open the attachment, they are displaying in PDF format correctly - even though the concurrent manager completes with the above warning. The above warning doesn't let me view the output in PDF from Oracle Financials.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Maybe check if Metalink note 764180.1 applies? This appears to be a bug fixed with patch 7669965.

  • Using Convert to handle NULL values for empty Strings ""

    After having had the problem with null values not being returned as nulls and reading some suggestion solution I added a converter to my application.
      <converter>
        <converter-id>NullStringConverter</converter-id>
        <converter-for-class>java.lang.String</converter-for-class>
        <converter-class>com.j2anywhere.addressbookserver.web.NullStringConverter</converter-class>
      </converter>
    ...I then implemented it as follows:
      public String getAsString(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, Object object)
        System.out.println("Converting to String : "+object);
        if (object == null)
          System.out.println("READING null");
          return "NULL";
        else
          if (((String)object).equals(""))
            System.out.println("READING null (Second Check)");
            return null;
          else
            return object.toString();
      public Object getAsObject(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, String value)
        System.out.println("Converting to Object: "+value+"-"+value.trim().length());
        if (value.trim().length()==0 || value.equals("NULL"))
          System.out.println("WRITING null");
          return null;
        else
          return value.toUpperCase();
    ...I can see that it is converting my values, however the object to which the inputText fields are bound are still set to empty strings ""
    <h:inputText size="50" value="#{addressBookController.contactDetails.information}" converter="NullStringConverter"/>Also when reading the object values any nulls are already converted to empty strings before ariving at the converter. It seems that there is a default converter handling string values.
    How can I resolve this problem as set nulls when the input value is an empty string other then checking every string in my class individually. I would really hate to pollute my object model with empty string tests.
    Thanks in advance
    Edited by: j2anywhere.com on Oct 19, 2008 9:06 AM

    I changed my converter as suggested :
      public Object getAsObject(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, String value)
        if (value == null || value.trim().length() == 0)
          if (component instanceof EditableValueHolder)
            System.out.println("SUBMITTED VALUE SET TO NULL");
            ((EditableValueHolder) component).setSubmittedValue(null);
          else
            System.out.println("COMPONENT :"+component.getClass().getName());
          System.out.println("Converting to Object: " + value + "< to " + null);
          return null;
        System.out.println("Converting to Object: " + value + "< to " + value);
        return value;
      }which produces the following output :
    SUBMITTED VALUE SET TO NULL
    Converting to Object: < to null
    Info : The INFO line however comes from my controller object where I print out the set value :
    package com.simple;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    import java.util.List;
    public class Controller
      private String information;
      /** Creates a new instance of Controller */
      public Controller()
        System.out.println("Createing Controller");
        information = "Constructed";
      public String process()
        System.out.println("Info : "+getInformation());
        return "processed";
      public String reset()
        setInformation("Re-Constructed");
        System.out.println("Info : "+getInformation());
        return "processed";
      public String setNull()
        setInformation(null);
        System.out.println("Info : "+getInformation());
        return "processed";
      public String getInformation()
        return information;

    String st = getString();

    It may be that the code in getString() returns a
    String that ends with a newline. If that is the
    problem, you can use
    return (Integer.parseInt(st)).trim();1. getString will never return a String ending in newline. BufferedReader.readLine strips off the newline.
    2. Even if you had a newline, String.trim doesn't trim newlines.
    3. You would need to trim the String, not the int:
    return (Integer.parseInt(st.trim()));As JimDinosaur said, you are passing bad data (the value of "st").
    In getInt, add this before trying to parse "st":
    System.out.println("###"+st+"###");What does it print?

    While running a BI Publisher 11g report i am getting this error
    oracle.xdo.XDOException: java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "500.01 Not to Exceed"
    Any idea what could it be?
    To me it looks like that its related to some datatype mismatch.
    For some parameters report runs fine and for some it throws the above error.

  • How can I search for a string like a partial IP address in the global search

    When searching for a string like "10.255." the global search finds messages containing "255" or "10" and both.
    This happens no matter whether quotation is used or not.
    When quotation is used it probably will match on the given order as well, but beeing in the timezone '+0100' the string "10" is always found first (in the email headers...).
    Is there a way to tell the global search not to use '.' or any other character as whitespace?

  • How to search for particular string in array?

    I am struggling to figure out how to search array contents for a string and then delete the entry from the array if it is found.
    The code for a program that allows the user to enter up to 20 inventory items (tools) is posted below; I apologize in advance for it as I am also not having much success grasping the concept of OOP and I am certain it is does not conform although it all compiles.
    Anyway, if you can provide some assistance as to how to go about searching the array I would be most grateful. Many thanks in advance..

    Ok, so you have an array of Strings. And if the string you are searching for is in the array, you need to remove it from the array.
    Is that right?
    Can you use an ArrayList<String> instead of a String[ ]?
    To find it, you would just do:
    for (String item : myArray){
       if (item.equals(searchString){
          // remove the element. Not trivial for arrays, very easy for ArrayList
    }Heck, with an arraylist you might be able to do the following:
    arrayList.remove(arrayList.indexOf(searchString));[edit]
    the above assumes you are using 1.5
    uses generics and for each loop
    [edit2]
    and kinda won't work it you have to use an array since you will need the array index to be able to remove it. See the previous post for that, then set the value in that array index to null.

    How do i search for a string in a txt file using java??
    could you please help thanks
    J

    Regular expressinos work just fine, especially when
    searching for patterns. But they seem to be impying
    it's a specific group of characters they're looking
    for, and indexOf() is much faster than a regex.If he's reading from a file, the I/O time will likely swamp any performance hit that regex introduces. I think contains() (or indexOf() if he's not on 5.0 yet) is preferable to regex just because it's simpler. (And in the case of contains(), the name makes for a very clear, direct mapping between your intent and the code that realizes it.)

  • PI 7.1 Error, For Input String: ""

    Hi Experts,
    I need help in troubleshooting this issue. Whenever I try to open one of a udf-intensive mapping, this is the error I'm getting. I've also tried searching this in SDN but to no avail. The steps that I have done are:
    1. Exported the mapping in an XI copy and imported it in PI 7.1, same error.
    2. Removed the UDFs in the XI mapping copy and imported it in PI 7.1, still got the same error.
    Ideas anyone?

    Hi Michal,
    Thanks for the quick response, I did as what you have instructed. Just opening the message mapping itself, it is  already generating the error. And whenever I press okay, the Definition, Test and Functions tab in the message mapping goes blank. However, when testing using operation mapping, it is producing correct output. Here is the error in the message mapping:

  • How to continously read for a string or word in a file?

    Hi
    I have been trying for a while now to search for a word that is being written to a file.
    I was wondering if anyone can get me over this hump?
    What I am doing is reading from the serial port to a file (example file called test), and while this is being done I want to search for the word "passed" or the phrase "test passed"
    Once I fine this word or phrase, I can stop the test
    I cannot figure out how to search the file, I used the scan file VI and the search/ replace VI etc with no luck!
    Your suggestions is appreciated

    It's always best to post your code so others can see the work you've done.  Suggestions will be more effective that way.
    So your reading from a serial port to a file?  What do you mean by this?  Are you reading from the serial port and writing the data to a file?  It's the file you want to read, isn't it?  If I had your code I could answer my own questions
    Why don't you just monitor the incoming data stream from the serial port for "passed."
    But to read from a file and search for a string, Smercurio is correct.  Match Pattern will do what you need (You can use this same function for ASCII serial data as well).

  • How do I write a macro that would look for a string in an entire column

    how do I write a macro that would look for a string in an entire column. If the string is found, it will copy that entire row to a new sheet in that same file?
    I want to look in an entire column lets say "C" for different strings of numbers like 246, 88, 68, 82246 etc... and copy them to a new sheet
    Thanks

    Hello Larbec,
    Try this:
    Option Explicit
    Sub test()
        Dim myNumber As Integer
        Dim myNumbers() As Integer
        Dim i As Integer
        Dim c As Range
        Dim firstAddress As Variant
        myNumbers = Array(246, 88, 68, 82246)
        For i = 0 To UBound(myNumbers)
            myNumber = myNumbers(i)
            With ActiveSheet.Range("C:C")
                Set c = .Find(myNumber, LookIn:=xlValues)
                If Not c Is Nothing Then
                    firstAddress = c.Address
                    Do
        ' Copy c.value to OtherSheet here !!!!
                        Set c = .FindNext(c)
                    Loop While Not c Is Nothing And c.Address <> firstAddress
                End If
            End With
        Next i
    End Sub

  • Searching for a string in given text file

    Hi,
    I have two strings and i need to search the entire file for the strings and highlight the lines between the strings
    say, for example,
    hi this is xyz
    i am a begineer in java
    can i have some help in this issue please
    i gave 'hi' and 'can' i need the three lines to be highlighted
    can you give me an idea about this.
    how to proceed
    thanks all in advance

    Here's an idea. Find a link to the java API. Create a utility class with a method to read a file and a method to write a file. Look in java.io for this. That should keep you busy for a while and give you something specific to ask questions about. Next, create a GUI class and put a button on it. Figure out how to make a button click open a "FileChooser" or "JFileChooser" (Look in the api for that) Imagine that these need to talk to each other so figure out what parameters are needed. After you've done that then figure out how the user is going to enter the two search criteria (something that acts like a text field). Choose a GUI class that supports text highlighting. Display all the information that the user would like to know e.g. The name of the file selected to parse, the name of the file to write, and whether the strings were found successfully.

  • Searching for a string in an excel file and return true if found.

    How can I search for a string in an excel file and return true if found, its location and also a value.

    The problem with searching an excel file is that it contains a header. It would be easiest if you just read the file into a LabVIEW array and search the array. This way you can also get the index and the value of the location.
