IFrames, Microsoft Media Player, JavaScript

We have a Flex App where an I-Frame loads a secondary HTML
page with an embedded MS Media Player object. It is extremely
important that we be able to use JavaScript commands to control the
MS Media Player.
The MediaPlayer object has an ID of MediaPlayer. We want to
be able to issue JS commands to do the following:
function getPlayheadTime() {
document.MediaPlayer.control.pause();
var cp = document.MediaPLayer.control.currentPosition();
document.MediaPlayer.control.play();
The problem - specifically the browser doesnt appear to see
the DOM for the media player when it is playing in the I-Frame. It
just isnt there at all. Even Firebug appears blank. So we can't
seem to get the handle to MediaPlayer whenter we issue a handle as
MediaPlayer.somecommand or MediaPlayer.control.somecommand.
Is it the fact that the I-Frame in Flex is somehow not seeing
the document components? Its very strang.
PS The page and JS works file when we run it just as a script
in an HTML (i.e. no IFrame).

You can try uninstalling procedures described here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/installation.mspx#q2_3

  • How can I use Microsoft Media Player with my new iPod Nano?

I do not like the iTunes player.  I want to use the Microsoft Media Player with my iPod Nano.  I dislike the iTunes player so much that if I don't get this resolved I will have to return the iPod Nano.

    Michelle,
You can download media components for QuickTime which will enable you to play WMA files through QuickTime on your Mac:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-media-components-quicktime
Alternatively, Get the free VLC player for Mac, which will play almost all media types:
    http://vlc-media-player.en.softonic.com/mac
If the interview requires Windows Media Player to be running to conduct the interview, then I fear you may be stuck, there is not a version of Windows Media Player for Mac - It is for Windows.  Your options in this case would be to borrow a Windows PC or install a valid copy of Windows on your MacBook under BootCamp.

  • Microsoft Media Player Update Desynchronized most songs on Zen Sleek, gutted playli

A recent Microsoft Media Player update really messed up my Zen Sleek. It has coexisted politely for some time, but with this upgrade, I first noticed that my playlists had been mostly emptied, then that I could not add songs back to them because even though they were on my computer, they were no longer available for selection in Manage Playlists. I solved the problem of the Zen Sleek not being able to see songs in my computer by using?the Microsoft Media Player to ?resynchronize my song collection to the Zen, but this did not restore the playlists, which represent untold hours of work to assemble and arrange. All that appears in the playlists?currently are the songs (the minority, to be sure) that were not taken out of sync by the Microsoft Media Player update. How do I restore my playlists to their former condition, now that I can access all my music again??

    thekid wrote:
can you create playlists on the fly?
You can certainly add files to the queue, and then save the queue as a playlist.
how is the zen media software?
The Sleek has a couple of bits of software (MediaSource and the Sleek Explorer), and you can use other 3rd party software also such as Real Player and Notmad Explorer (aside from WMP0).
There's nothing identical to the Karma's software, although I guess MediaSource is the closest.

  • Microsoft Media Player

I have successfully put a web page up with text photos and video... however folks with windows pc's can't watch the quicktime movies.
I have flip4 mac and have tried to compress and publish the video in several formats mpeg4, avi, wmv, etc. still won't play on a plain pc with windows media player. They are corporate computers and are not allowed to install Quicktime.
Plays great on a mac or pc with quicktime installed.
I need advice on what file format to publish video that will play on Windows Media Players.
    thanks
Using final cut pro to edit footage.

    WMV = Windows Media Video.
[Here are some pages|http://web.mac.com/wyodor/iFrame] that display all the video formats.
You can look at the source of each page. Or download the object code to embed WMV in your pages.
And since Windows Media Player is a Microsoft product look [here|http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/playing_files.ms px] for more info. There's probably more to find.
Lastly, I don't think the problem has anything to do with iWeb.

  • On certain websites, when opening a wmv file it will open as an ascii file, instead of the microsoft media player.

this website used to work at one time. What could cause this. This may have happened after upgrading to Firefox 4.0, but I am not sure. I am using Windows XP. I have checked that I have the latest media player plugin installed.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If the file is opened in Firefox as a text (ASCII) file then that means that the HTTP response header specify a content type text/plain instead of a content type that identifies the file as a media file. That can be a problem with that website, but another possibility is that security software like a firewall has changed the response headers as a security precaution because that content isn't trusted.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

There is no such plugin for any Android browser. I doubt Microsoft will ever make one. The best chance you have is if the site provides a direct link to the file and you download it. You then might be able to play the file with one of the media players on the phone.

  • Windows media player extension is installed but does not pass the plugin test...what do I do now?

I followed the instructions to install the Microsoft Media Player Extension in order to be able to listen to the radio in the Youtube Toolbar. I checked to make sure it was installed as per the instructions, then I tried the test that is provided in this link: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/wmp11.html, but the screen was just black, and the radio still doesn't work...what should I do now?

OK...but I still can't get the radio to work...I get an error message that says:

  • Tracks ripped with EAC Play alphabetically, when ripped with Media Player Play in the correct or

I just got my new zen touch. I downloaded the new firmware update and it seems to be working great.
The only problem is that when I add music that I've ripped with Exact Audio Copy c/ Lame Encoder to MP3, The tracks don't play in the correct order on my Zen Touch.
When I add an album ripped with Microsoft Media Player, it plays them in the correct order.
I think that the ID3 tags have all the appropriate info becuase when I hold my curser (on the computer) over the eac ripped tracks, the pop up menu list the track #, artist name and song title etc.
I've read the FAQ and it doesn't matter if I select Album-Play, Artist-Album-Play. I've tried all combos.
Anybody with experience using EAC? I've looked in the settings and I can't find anything wrong.
Is it possible that EAC is using and ID3 Format that my computer recognizes but my zen touch doesnt.
But Media Player uses an ID3 format that it does recognize.
Also, The album ripped with media player was ripped to WMA. While all the tracks ripped with EAC that are giving me trouble were ripped to MP3.

What software are you using to copy? Make sure both that and the drivers are completely up-to-date.

  • Windows Media Player in Windows 8 Pro-64 Bit - Server Execution Failed

I'm running Windows 8 Pro - 64bit.  I have also installed Windows Media Center add-on.
Windows Media Player returns an error "Server Execution Failed" when attempting to load any non-music media file, such as .avi, .mp4, .wmv, etc.   These files open and play properly in the base Windows 8 "app" Video, and in Windows Media Center.
WMP opens OK from a desktop shortcut and updates it's music libraries.  It plays all types of audio-only media files properly.
I have tried all the various "fixes" for various versions of Windows and WMP including removing WMP as a feature, rebooting and "re-installing" it as a feature... I've run regserv.dll, etc. all to no avail...
I just want WMP to be the default "media" player for all standard file types...
    Anyone have any suggestions... ?
    Thanks... MTGB

You can try the following suggestions.
    Method 1.
    1. Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, stop it temporarily.
    2. Close Windows Media Player 12 if it is started.
    3. input %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\ to Windows Explorer to find the folder.
    4. Move all files in the folder to another place as a backup. Move files in the specific folder will reset database.
    5. Restart service and Windows Media Player to check the result.
    Method 2.
    1. Open command prompt with Admin.
    2. In the command prompt type the following command
net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add
    3. Restart the computer to check the result.

  • Media Player plug in fails to work.

I have a new mini 1.5 Ghz (max os 10.4.3) that has all the software updates applied, Microsoft Media Player 9 installed successfully (plays sample WMV and is listed in Safari plugins) but I'm still getting plugin needs upgrading or not installed messages and am unable to play video/sound on the www.daum.net web site. I also have a year-old powerbook with all updates applied (mac os 10.3.9) that loads and plays the same site fine. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm at "http://cafe.daum.net/jesus330" and the message is a pop up from the site "배경음악 안내
    미디어 플레이어 버전 업그레이드가 필요합니다.
    (권장사양 7.0이상)"
I thought this was something to the effect that I needed to update my media player. I followed the link to download, performed the download and installed Media Player 9, shut down, rebooted, and the result was the same, except; after installing and rebooting, I no longer have the Safari error message, so I can't give you that.
I have recently received a clarification on the message, I believe it says I can't use Media Player newer than 7.0. So now I plan to install Classic on my mini to install the older player, if this is correct. Forsee any problems in this? Or am I chasing the wrong rabbit?

  • Windows Media Player in Windows 7 displays the same album art picture for nearly all songs!

    Hello,
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium as a clean install on my PC.  I then imported all my music files back onto the PC and opened up Windows Media Player and found that probably 95% of the songs have the same album cover (Timbaland - Shock Value) against them, instead of how thety were before (either the correct album art, or no album art at all).  Does anybody have any ideas what is going on here as it is pretty annoying that nearly every song has the same album art cover.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Hi Parkesian,
I would like to suggest you reset the database for Windows Media Player 12 to check the issue.
Clear the Windows Media Player database
    ========================================
    1. Close Windows Media Player.
    2. Press Win + R to open Run, copy "%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Media Player" (without the quotation marks) to the Open box and press Enter.
    3. In the Media Player folder, delete all of the files.
Note that it is not necessary to remove the folders that are also in this folder.
    4. Restart Windows Media Player.
At this point Windows Media Player will automatically rebuild the database.
    What’s the result?

  • Am I allowed to publish an application with a Windows Media Player control in it?

Just like the title says, am I allowed to publish an application with a AxWindowsMediaPlayer control in it?
I don't want to get sued just because of this.
    Thanks!

The AxWindowsMediaPlayer is an interop to the Mediaplayer on the computer, it is not a control itself.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd564680(v=vs.85).aspx
Be aware that it is an old way, currently there is also a .Net class.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.media.mediaplayer(v=vs.110).aspx
You are not allowed to publish the Microsoft media player itself. (But why would you do that)
But why would you be allowed to use a windows form textbox in a program (which is a true windows component) and not a Media player interop if that is given to you as part of the framework or an SDK by Microsoft.

  • Windows Media Player vs. Flip4Mac

I am trying to watch a news clip on the Internet - I have Quicktime and Flip4Mac and the website says that they don't support either. I have to have Microsoft Media Player - so I tried downloading the newest version (9) and I still can't get the video to play.
Any ideas? If it helps the station/website is http://www.wdbj7.com
I can always watch it at work on my PC but it irks me that I can't figure out how to get it to work on my Mac.

Unfortunately, the Windows Media Player browser plug-in will not work on an Intel Mac which is why you must use Flip4Mac. The Windows Media Player (installed in your Applications folder) will work on its own, but you have to download the .wmv file in order to view it.
In most cases websites don't check for WMP specifically so any .wmv media is automatically played by Flip4Mac.
Note that after installing WMP you will need to reinstall Flip4Mac in order to replace the WMP plug-in or Flip4Mac will no longer be active. You should restart the computer after installing Flip4Mac or it may not work properly with your browser.

  • SWF files under Windows Media player

When running .swf files in a .net application (running the
Microsoft Media Player control), the files play correctly but
either loop continuously (if loop is set to true) or hold on the
last frame displaying continously. The application requires that
the file plays and then closes allowing another one in the playlist
    to start.
The application works fine with other media types such as
mpg's wmv's and avi's but I don't want to use these for obvious
size and ease of use purposes.

Try your "My Music" folder; that's the default repository for music ripped by WMP.

  • Looking for an all around purpose media player (rather than iTunes)

    Hello Hello
In the PC environment there is the Winn Amp player. A good all-purpose free player, or pro version that can play just about any sound file.
It would be great top have a good utility player like that for MAC.
Apparently the Microsoft Media Player 9 for OS 10, is useless since all it plays are .wmv windows files. I downloaded it and it's just junk. It won't even open wav files.
Does anyone know where you could even BUY a nice reliable sound file player for MAC?
    Thanx
    Mike

Since iTunes has been around for so long on the Mac platform and bundled with every Mac, few users look elsewhere for for an audio player. If you're looking for something to play a wide array of audio formats, then Cog is a good option. It hardly does anything, and by that I mean that there are absolutely no bells and whistles, but it plays just about anything, and it's the only player for OS X that truly supports gapless playback.
Another very nice player for OS X is Whamb. It only plays MP3 and Ogg Vorbis, but it also supports radio streams in both those formats, and allows music sharing via Rendezvous. This player hasn't been updated for a long time, so it's PPC only (it won't work on Intel Macs). I use it for radio streams--I actually think it's the best player for that purpose, but I also like the logical "tree" organization it uses for music files.
