IllegalStateException while requesting a JSF page

Hello all,
I have a JSF (Oracle ADF) application deployed on a WAS 6.4 (SP 16). The application mostly works fine but sometimes I get an IllegalStateException while requesting a page.
The error appears sporadical and isn't repeatable. After repeating the request the site appears as suggested.
This is the errormessage from the WAS:
Processing HTTP request to servlet [Faces Servlet] finished with error.
The error is: javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: The operation is not allowed. The HttpServletRequest is not associated with a client request.
Exception id: [0003BA9B5D570043000000160000461000041D51FFBEBD37]
Here is the exception from the default trace:
Processing HTTP request to servlet [Faces Servlet] finished with error. The error is: javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: The operation is not allowed. The HttpServletRequest is not associated with a client request.

The code which produces the error is 'valueBinding.getValue()':
valueBinding = context.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{benutzerStatus}");
benutzerStatus = ((BenutzerStatus) valueBinding.getValue(context));
Has anybody an idea why I sometimes get an 'Operation not allowed' error while requesting this specific managed bean from the faces context?
By the way: the application runes fine on a jboss.
thanks a lot,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
The reason for this exception is that the WAS uses a pool of request objects. So when one request-response cycle ends, the participated request and response objects are returned back in the pool to be used for next client request.
So this exception means that your application has somehow a reference to request object that is already returned back in the pool and any method invocation on this object is prohibited.
Please check for such behavior.
Regards,
Diyan

  • Problem with Non JSF Request to JSF Page

    Hi All,
    I am working on dynamic controls generation based on the request come from non jsf page
    For the first request, pageworks perfectly. but when we go for second request, it is not rendering and I am getting same old page.
    What I have identified is if I have 2 pages as JSF, application is not giving any problem.
    For this I have written small test application contains both JSF pages only.
    page1 contains 3 submit buttons.
    When submit buttons are clicked based on the request, I get, am able to see the dynamic controls.
    SO there is no problem with JSF PAGE to JSF Page Communication
    Now I have done some changes in First JSF page. Instead of submitting directly I am submitting the page through JavaScript which is nonb JSF request. There I am facing the problem and based on requested qaction I am not able to see correct rendered page based on the requested action.
    Any Idea why it is giving problem for non JSF requests??
    Thanks
    Sudhakar

    For Your Convenience in understanding the problem
    I am pasting entire test code

  • Processing a request from JSF page?

    Hello all,
    I made a small page in JSF to display a form. I want to process the data in an EJB. When I press the submit button, a particular method is called. How should I pass the form data to EJB - I mean in what format,
    should I pass various arguments to a method of bean? That doesn't sound like good practice. What if I have many fields in form?
    should I pass the arguments as a List array of Strings?
    or is there some better method?

    Hi Vikram,
    To understand i am giving small exaple to you which helps u to get the formdata in the managed bean method.
    Below is the sample code, we have a input text and the value is binded to Register that is a managed bean which u need to register in faces-config.xml file.
    When you clicks the commandButton below the action will be submitted and the method process will invoke in the managed bean (Register). In this method you will get the inputText value which you entered.See the below code how to get the value.
    <h:inputText id="text1" value="#{Register.text1}" styleClass="inputText" />
    <h:commandButton id="bLogin" value="Login" action="#{Register.process}"/>
    public class Register extends PageCodeBase{
    private String text1=""; //created one string for the textBox id=text1 and provide setters & getters
    public String getText1() {
              return text1;
         public void setText1(String text1) {
              this.text1 = text1;
    public String process(){
    System.out.println("IN PROCESS METHOD");
    //In the below line you will get the value entered in the text box.
    System.out.println("Getting the value of input text box:::"+getText1());
    Here you can perform what ever business login u need.
    return "back";
    Feel free to ask any questions.
    Thank You,
    Subrahmanyam Baratam.

  • Getting style missing errors while rendering ADF trees in JSF page

    I am getting the following message while rendering a JSF page with af:tree. Based on other posts on this forum, I verified servlet-mapping in web.xml and it is already set to /faces/*.
    This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
    Here is my JSF code snippet.
    <f:view><af:document title="DeviceTree2.jsf" id="d1">
    <af:messages id="m1"/>
    <af:form id="f1">
    <af:tree value="#{bindings.Device1.treeModel}" var="node" selectionListener="#{bindings.Device1.treeModel.makeCurrent}" rowSelection="single" id="t1">
    <f:facet name="nodeStamp"><af:outputText value="#{node}" id="ot1"/>
    </f:facet>
    </af:tree>
    </af:form>
    </af:document>
    </f:view>
    Surely I am missing something here but not sure on the real issue.
    Would appreciate if someone can help on this.

    I am getting the following error. Browser shows the JSF XML code listed in my original issue statement followed by this error.
    "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."

  • How to Use another JSF page that I load by XMLHttpRequest?

    Hi everyone, I'm a newbie of JSF and curisous about how to load page content seperately by AJAX.
    I saw example of Java Blue Print. It's load some data to use in page. What I want is to load another JSF page when click a link or button, (Like include another page). And work with functions privoided by loaded JSF Page.
    My example is, In a main page. I request a JSF page and set it into a div layer.
    var requestURL = "/admin/customer/customer-list-body.faces";
    var content = postDataWithoutContent(requestURL);     divContent.innerHTML = content;
    All JSF components are required under <f:view>, thus action of form is set as "action='"/admin/customer/customer-list-body.faces'"
    But my page is main.jsp. Each time I click command button in customer-list-body.faces, the url will change to customer-list-body.faces, I want to request and hold in main.jsp.
    What can I do then? Any advices?

    Hi,
    the list doesn't seem to be your problem. You need to track down the illegal argument exception. Once you have that sorted out, expose the method on the AM so it gets shown as a method binding. The return values then could be picked up in a managed bean to create the select Item list

  • Loading page animation while JSF page is being loaded

    JSF 2.1
    Mojarra 2.1.7
    JBoss 7.1.1
    The backing bean on my JSF page(s) are view-scoped, and during the initial request, the backing bean's @PostConstructor method may take some time to return as it is calling external systems that are outside of my control. Thus, during the RENDER_RESPONSE phase of the initial request to the JSF page, it may take, on average, 3 to 5 seconds to return ( sometimes longer than that .... which again, is outside of my control ). While this is happening, the page rendered is of course blank as the response has not been written yet.
    Naturally, I am thinking of a way to show an animated loading image.
    1) I have seen suggestions of using a4j:status and a4j:region, but these are only valid for Ajax requests, while what I need is something that I can use during the initial request ( not a post back ), of a JSF lifecycle.
    2) Suggestions of using two HTML divs... one DIV shows the animated image while the other DIV wraps the real content, but is initially hidden. Then use window.onload() to swap the style of the two DIVs so that the DIV wrapping the real content becomes visible while the DIV wrapping the animated image becomes hidden.
    But then again ... these DIVs will NOT be written to the response yet as I am still in RENDER_RESPONSE phase.
    The only thing that I can think of is to:
    3) Create another page whose sole purpose is to show the animated image, then somehow immediately forward the request to the real page. The animated image on the first page will hopefully continue animating until the final page is rendered.
    What have you guys done ?

    This was the simplest solution by far .. although there are some quirks to be deal with when using IE.As usual :/ It remains a questionable product no matter how many times they reinvent the wheel.

    Hi,
    I dont see any parameters that you are trying to pass in the below code.
    public String button1_action() {
    FacesContext context = javax.faces.context.FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExternalContext ec = context.getExternalContext();
    try {
    ec.redirect("http://xxx/paramTest.jsp");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    // print exception information in the server log
    log("Exception occurred when redirecting page", e);
    error("Trouble redirecting page");
    return null;
    context.responseComplete();
    return "success";
    }

  • JSF page & Sqlserver DB - gave 'Use the sqljdbc4' class error !

    Hello,
    I created an JSF page with business components and data controls generated from a connected sqlserver database.
    The driver class used is 'sqljdbc4.jar' and works for all generaled VIEW LINKS by the AppModule.
    However, on running the created JSF page, I get the following error - although the 'sqljdbc4.jar class (NOT sqljdbc.jar) is used for the DB connection, and the only reference in the application.
    The error message is:
    Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6 is not supported by this driver. Use the sqljdbc4.jar class library, which provides support for JDBC 4.0.
    QUESTION: Does that mean that I need to locate another sqlserver driver that supports JRE version 1.6 - although I understood from the documentation that 'sqljdbc4.jar' should work with JRE version 1.6?
    see full message log below - when trying to deploy the JSF page:

    No, you already have the needed driver in sqljdbc4.jar. The problem is that your classpath first points to sqljdbc.jar
    >
    ...;C:\KEEP\A_SOA_ActiveVOS\SQLserverjdbc_Driver\sqljdbc_2.0\enu\sqljdbc.jar
    >
    so this dirver is loaded instead of the sqljdbc4.jar.
    Remove the old jar from the class path and try again.

    Classpath: %java_home%;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin;
    Javahome: C:\ j2sdk1.4.2_03\jre;

    <there are other variables available in path, along with that I have added the j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin in path".
    So if u have any way out for it please let me know.

    I think you only need to add: c:\j2sdk1.4.2_01
    you have specified jre on the end of your path, it is not the jre that is required, but the jdk.
    If you are using startup.bat and shutdown.bat (or .sh on Linux) you can amend the files with a text editor (open the startup.bat in notepad), like so:
    @echo off
    set JAVA_HOME=c:\j2sdk1.4.2_01
    if "%OS%" == "Windows_NT" setlocal
    I this will start Tomcat with the correct settings, regardless of your environment settings.

  • How to get values from a query string in URL in a jsf page?

    if i have a url, http://my.com/?name=john+smith, how do i get the values from that url in a jsf page and then pass those values to a servlet?
    i know how to do that in jsp using "request.getParamter("name")" and save it in a bean and then forward to a servlet. But what about in jsf?

    Hello,
    Try this:
    Map requestMap = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestMap();
    String name = (String) requestMap.get("name");If isn't worked one of these methods probably will solve your problem.
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap();
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestHeaderMap();hth.

  • How-to get attributes from one JSF page redirected to another?

    How do I send information from one JSF page when the navigation rule redirects it to another?
    When JSF navigation does a forward I can use request.setAttribute() in the from-page and then use request.getAttribute() in the to-page, but this doesn't work with <redirect/>.

    Al Malin

    The process scope in ADF Faces solves this. See:

  • Setting the value of a hidden field in a Visual Web jsf page

    Hey All,
    I am new to jsf and need some help with the following. I have written a method in the java portion of the jsf page that will get the selection(s) from a listbox and return them as a string. I need to assign the value of that string to a hidden field in the jsp portion of the page, so that I can pass the string as a parameter to a servlet. I have tried the following code in the "button_action", in the java portion of the jsf page, to assign the value of the string, returned from method, to the hidden field:
    hiddenField.setValue(string);
    This is not working. Any and all help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Here is the tag for the hidden field when the "hidden field" component is added from the pallette, I addded the "value" and "id". The name of the class is ReportStandard, which extends the AbstractPageBean.
    <webuijsf:hiddenField binding="#{ReportStandard.utilSelHF}" id="utilSelHF" value="#{ReportStandard.utilParams}"/>This is how I am calling the hidden field in the servlet:
    utils = request.getParameter("form1:utilSelHF_field");Here is the code for the button_action:
    public String runReport_button_action() {
           this.utilParams = get_utilSelection();
           return "sRptrslts";
    }
