ILM Assistant certified against Oracle 9i

Dear ILM Forum Users,
Can anyone tell me if ILM is certified for use against an Oracle 9i database ?
I know that the minimum requirements for running the ILM Assitant is Oracle 9i and Apex but it does not state in the documentation what version of the Oracle database ILM is certified against.
My client has and Oracle 9i database they would like to use the ILM solution for.
Regards
Chris

Yes we have tested the ILM Assistant against Oracle 9i Release 2.
However, not all functionality of course will be available so for example, you won't be able to use the immutability feature.

  • Oracle ILM assistant for Oracle EBS R12.1 application with 11.1.0.7 DB

    Oracle ILM through its ILM Agent, which is a database component provides option for data archiving.
    Need to know how ILM agent can be used against Oracle EBS R12 and the options available:
    a. Does ILM assistant map to industry Compliance requirements and can we add or modify based on additional Client requirements
    b. Is this configured for all components and are the business rules (default) taken care in terms of archiving related data, if not what are the options available
    c. What are the options to archive data
    i. On Same and archive database
    ii. Other RDBMS (mysql, or open source database)
    d. Access to archived data
    i. Is archive data available from the existing application or only from backend database
    ii. Does ILM assistant provide options to access archived data (same Oracle RDBMS or heterogeneous database)
    e. Retention options
    i. Does ILM assistant provide multi tier retention options for archived data for different range (# of years)

    Any update on my query please...?

    Limits the Preferred Read-Write Tablespace to only 1 where as in Oracle EBS we would require multiple tablespaces to be Preferred Read Write. Can we extend the functionality of ILM assistant to have multiple Read-Write tablespaces...?

  • Oracle ILM Assistant 1.4 Installation for Oracle 11g Express Edition

    Can we use Oracle ILM Assistant 1.4 with Oracle 11g Express Edition?
    I installed ILM Assistant with Oracle 11g Express Edition along with default APEX in my laptop. Oracle SQLPlus connect and Application Express working fine. But facing problem is connecting ILM Assistant.
    I used below commands to install ILM Assistant
    sqlplus /nolog
    Connect SYS as SYSDBA
    Password: oracle
    @ilma_install oracle ILM_ASSISTANT NONE
    granted all access rights to user
    @ilma_post_install
    I restarted by computer once installation completes.
    When I use http://localhost:8080/pls/apex/f?p=737677 address in IE to connect ILM Assistant it ask for XDB server username and password. When I provide default password IE giving 404 Not Found error.
    Just wondering if I am missing something or issue is some thing else.

    Hermann, thanks for your support.
    Answer: please use username in Capital Letters
    e.g.
    SQL> @grant_privs ILM_USER_TEST;

  • Installation of more than one ILM Assistant on the same machine

    Hi,
    I have two Oracle 10g test databases and Application Express for each database installed on the same machine (Windows). These are working fine.
    I have also installed ILM Assistant for one of the databases without any problems and it is also working fine.
    Now, I'm trying to install ILM Assistant for the second database, but I get the following errors:
    DECLARE
    ERROR in line 1:
    .ORA-01119: Error in creating database file 'ILM_TOOLKIT_ILM_ASSISTANT.f'.
    ORA-27086: unable to lock file - already in use
    OSD-00002: additional error information
    O/S-Error: (OS 32) The process cannot access the file because it is being used
    by another process.
    ORA-06512: in line 19
    Is it not possible to have 2 ILM Assistants on the same machine or is this error about something else?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    My datafiles are in the following locations:
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata\prod1 - for the 1st database
    D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata\prod2 - for the 2nd database
    I tried what you suggested. Everything seemed to be going fine at first - the ILM_TOOLKIT user and the tablespace were created - but somewhere along the way, I get an ORA-12541: TNS: No listener error.
    I then tried to uninstall everything, but I get the same No listener error. (The ILM_TOOLKIT user was deleted but not the tablespace.)
    I'm not sure why I am getting this error - Database Control shows that my listener is up, and I even restarted my listener a few times.
    Thanks.

  • ILM assistant XDB username and password not working

    Hi All,
    Hi I'm using ILM 1.3 with Oracle 11g on HP.
    I am able to log-in to apex server but not ILM assistant.
    http://dblxamd02.vxindia.veritas.com:8080/apex/apex_admin it works with admin/oracle.
    But im not able to login to http://dblxamd02.vxindia.veritas.com:8080 when it asks for XDB username and password.
    I tried to reset the password using apxxepwd.sql but not luck.
    Did anybody observer this issue ? if so can somebody please reply me ASAP ?
    Thanks in advance.

    There are two wats to install the ILM toolkit:
    1) Directly on the server where your instance is located. In this case you do not need to provide a TNS connection name. Therefore, you would execute the script as follows:
    @ilma_install.sql pune
    2) Remotely from a client. In this case you do need to provide a connection string to your remote database instance. Therefore, you would execute the script as follows:
    @ilma_install.sql pune@11
    in this scenario the connection details are derived from your TNSNAMES.ORA file. If you have multiple Oracle products installed you have multiple copies of this file and it can be difficult to track down which file is being used. To point to a specific TNSNAMES.ORA I normally set three parameters:
    ORACLE_HOME - points to your 11g Client installation directory
    PATH - point this to the Oracle home containing SQLPlus, usually this is ORACLE_HOME/bin
    TNS_ADMIN = ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    then make sure the TNSNAMES.ORA contains a reference to your identifier "11". You can test the connection by using the TNSPING utility that is part of the 11g client installation. The format for your instance would be:
    TNSPING 11
    this will tell you if you can connect to your instance. If there are any issues check the connection via the Net Configuration Assistant, or you can edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file directly via Notepad.
    Hope this helps

  • Status update on ILM Assistant

    I have a customer who might be extremely interested in ILM assistant. Is there any update on the availablility of the product. I also hear that future releases of the Oracle DB may contain additional ILM functionalilty. Any details on this?

    The ILM Assistant is current out in early adopter release and we hope to have it released before Oracle OpenWorld which is late October. I plan to announce here when it is available.
    There is already extensive functionality in the Oracle Database which can be used for ILM and we plan to continue adding features which will be useful for building ILM systems.

  • Tool availability for Archival Solution similar to ILM Assistant?

    Can you suggest some other tool or facility which will give ILM Assistant like features?
    We want to archive data on date basis. ILM Assistant does not provide archiving solution. Is there any other tool available for the same?
    Regards,
    Archana.

    Oracle has two solutions for archiving.
    One is DBFS HSM. Oracle SecureFiles provide fast and file storage on an Oracle database. DBFS provides a file system interface to SecureFiles data. DBFS HSM store allows archiving and transparent recall of SecureFiles data to tape. See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/secure-files/dbfs-sf-oow2009-v2-160969.pdf for more info. SecureFiles can be coupled with Oracle's Enterprise Content Management suite so that the content can be automatically stored, and recalled when necessary, on tape.
    The other is Storage Archive Manager. SAM presents a file interface and any files written to and stored on SAM can be managed in a multi tiered storage environment which also provides multi-tier transparent archiving. See http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/storage/storage-software/031715.htm for more info. SAM can be coupled with Oracle's Enterprise Content Management suite so that the content can be automatically stored, and recalled when necessary, on SAM.

  • Does ILM assistant need APEX to be installed?

    To be able to use ILM assistant against my development database, do I need to install APEX into the same database? If yes, then does this mean that I will need to install APEX in every database which I want to use with ILM assistant?
    Thanks

    Yes you will need to install APEX in each database where you want to run the ILM Assistant because the ILM Assistant is actually an APEX application.

  • OLEDB 8i against Oracle 9i Database

    Is it recommended to use Oracle Provider for OLE DB 8i driver against Oracle 9i Database server?
    Does anyone have an official Oracle link whether this is supported or not.
    Thanks
    Dipak

    Assuming you have an 8i client, this is a supported configuration. It new 9i features require some additional client coding, you may not be able to access them from the 8i client. I doubt you'd hit any of these issues since you're using OLE DB, though.
    Unfortunately, I'm not aware of an official Oracle link that explains the policy. There is probably some note on Metalink that explains it.

  • Embedded SQL against Oracle Question

    Software: Forte 3.0.J.
    Server Platform: HPUX 10.2
    Database: Oracle
    Problem Description: During the course of development, I ran into a
    problem using multiple columns in an sql UPDATE/SET statement. I was trying
    to update a.COLUMN_1 and a.COLUMN_2, which constitute part of the primary
    key of associative TABLE_A (a). In order for me to make the update, I
    needed to use the existing value of a.COLUMN_1 to lookup the new b.COLUMN_1
    in TABLE_B (b). Where a.COLUMN_1 = b.RELATED_COLUMN_1, I am able to find
    each b.COLUMN_2 that correspond to each a.COLUMN_2.
    I was able to resolve the issue by separating the two columns so
    that each had it's own select statement. Theoretically, it appears that
    this shouldn't work, because the SET statement for a.COLUMN_1 would cause
    the a.COLUMN_1 reference in the select statement of a.COLUMN_2 to be
    overwritten.
    In spite of this, I tried it, and it worked. I would like to
    understand why the sql works, and how sql actually executes the statement.
    Here is the sql:

    FROM TABLE_B b1
    WHERE b1.RELATED_CASE_ID =

    b2.RELATED_COLUMN_TYPE_CD = 'NEPHI' AND
    b2.RELATED_COLUMN_2= a.COLUMN_2)
    WHERE a.COLUMN_1 = 100

    If you do an explain plan or set autotrace on against this update statement,
    you'll find that the select operations are actually executed first by Oracle
    - I believe because of the nature of the transaction. Thus, no problem.

    The code works fine under Oracle 8.1.7 and 9.0.1
    My code needs to access all four of these database version, sometimes concurrently, so I can only use a single driver class (i.e. I can't swap out ojdbc14.jar for classes12.zip).
    Any feedback would be appreciated!
