Imac (2010) won't wake up after installing yosemite
blue screen, with lots of disk activity but won't wake without a hard restart. This is rough on the system (or will need to turn off sleep mode). Is there a fix for this that anyone knows of, or must we wait for an update? don't have the problem with my macbook air (2011) - thx
Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully (some of it is hidden by disclosure triangles) and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading "Additional troubleshooting." If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
Step 4
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with "Sleep Wake Failure" followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
Step 5
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

Mac pro won't wake up after installing Mountain Lion
After installing Mountain Lion in my Mac Pro it won't wake up after long periods of sleep. I have tried unplugging it for 15 seconds and plugging it back in and starting it back up. No help. I've reset the Pram with no change.
ChuckTwo calls into tech support, but I think they may have helped me fix this.
CHECK:
\Library\LaunchAgents
\Library\LaunchDaemons
\Library\StartupItems
remove any third party software and set aside. (they told me I could keep some adobe, microsoft and HP items)
THEN CHECK:
System Preferences --> Users + Groups -->Login Items
remove any third party stuff from in there.
I'll know tomorrow morning if this REALLY works, but it dfefinitely allowed my computer to sleep and wakeup over a short period of time. -

Mail.app won't work properly after installing Yosemite
My "new viewer window" in Mail.app won't work after installing Yosemite. I can not access the viewer window and thus none of my email.
How can I fix this?
Mail.app v 8.0some updates on this issue, Mail application uses the same proxy that has been set on your system (system preferences==>Network==>Advanced==>proxies). People usually use HTTP/HTTPS proxy for surfing the web. You should make sure to set SOCKS proxy as well. Mail application works with SOCKS proxy. Note that port number for SOCKS proxy is usually different from the port number for HTTP and HTTPS but the IP address of your server (apparently) is the same.
Hope this helps -
IMac won't "wake-up" after installing latest security update
I have a fairly new iMac G5 2GHz, and just installed the latest security update yesterday(4/1/06). Since that update, everytime my computer goes to sleep, I can't wake it up.
The power light is on and I hear the computer running... I can even hear the error "bonk" when I try and hit a bunch of keys, but still won't wake up. Was NEVER a problem until yesterday and I haven't installed anything else.

HELP! My Mac won`t wake up after installing Windows and Bootcamp
Hello,
I posted a message in another discussion earlier but I guess it is best to open a new discussion.
I upgraded to mac Leopard today (on a new 24 inch imac) and installed bootcamp.
In bootcamp I chose the 32GB FAT partition for windows, and everything worked fine until I had to choose the partition to install windows, where I could only choose a 115 GB (or so) partition. Fearing I'd mess up my Mac partition, I quit the windows installer (following the instructions in the installer) and since this, my mac wakes up with the mac sound and the screen remains blank. No matter what keys I push durin power up, or the installation CDs I insert, my Mac won't wake up!
Does anyone know what to do?
Is there a way to recover the master boot (or whatever it is called in mac?)
Thanks
Thanks!I have had the same issue...
I just purchased my 20" iMac less than one week ago. I tried running boot camp and got an was not able to see my bootcamp partition in the windows installer. I quit the installer and now my computer launches into the white screen and will not progress further. I have tried various methods of recovery but to no avail. Here is a list:
_Using the iMac OSX Leopard installer disk_
• insert disk into iMac slot and boot pressing "c" - result = white screen
• insert disk into iMac slot and boot pressing "x" - result = white screen
• insert disk into iMac slot and boot pressing "option' - result = white screen w/ mouse pointer
• insert disk into Power Mac G4 in target mode and boot pressing "c" - result = white screen
• insert disk into Power Mac G4 in target mode and boot pressing "x" - result = white screen
• insert disk into Power Mac G4 in target mode and boot pressing "option' - result = white screen w/ mouse pointer
• trying to boot Intel iMac in Target mode pressing "t" - result = white screen
_Using General Purpose Leopard Disk_
Same results as above.
My question is there any way to get this system to recognize a boot disk or see any boot partition outside itself?
All of the above methods were done with the power cable being unplugged and plugged back in and being all sorts of careful. I have had the CAT-5 cable out of the system during whole process.
Is there some triple secret trick that I don't know about?
Note - I have worked on and serviced video and graphics systems on Mac 8200's on up (and others) for over 12 years. So I am not a babe in the woods. My guess here is that Boot Camp is doing something to the firmware and it is toast.

Macbook Pro won't shut down after installing Yosemite
Hi,
I just finished installing Yosemite on my Macbook Pro. It's fairly new, the last version with a DVD drive but without retina display (I bought it in May 2014 and it's my first Mac).
I installed Yosemite, updated all my applications from the App Store and tried to shut it down from the Finder but the screen just freezes on a black screen wth the pointer showing and then I to shut it down using the power button which I hate doing.
I turned on FireVault after set up and that is busy encrypting could that be causing this? I did check online and it says you can put your Mac to sleep or shut it down while this is happening, but I haven't been able to. Any tips would be great.I had the same problem and just fixed it.
What I did:
- Launch Disk Utility > Select Macintosh HD > Verify Disk
Let the Verify run until it's done
- If you are seeing any error try the Repair disk
It's possible you need to restart (holding cmd+r while restarting)
- Next I did a verify disk permissions and a repair disk permissions
- reboot
After this the shutdown issue was gone!
Hope this solves your problem as well. -
Google Talk won't go invisible after installing Yosemite
I installed Yosemite last week, and immediately after it was installed I logged into gmail via my web browser and I got a message stating "Oops! You are not invisible because you're logged into Google Talk from another client, device, or location that doesn't support invisibility." I confirmed that this was the case by logging on to a different computer not running Yosemite. When I shut down my mac running yosemite, the "oops" message regarding invisibility goes away. When I turn the mac running yosemite back on, the message immediately comes back. I also know that I am not invisible, as a friend of mine sent me a message and confirmed that I was visible in his list.
I assumed that this problem might have had something to do with iCloud drive, however, I turned off iCloud drive, and deselected mail from the regular iCloud menu. I also deleted my gmail account from internet accounts, but nothing seems to work. This gmail account is also used as my apple ID, and I would prefer not to change that. I never had this problem with Mavericks, so it is obviously something new with Yosemite. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, as I prefer to keep my google talk invisible the majority of the time.Ok, I think I found it this time:
There is a Hangouts app (Icon in toolbar of text baloon with doublequote " inside it).
If you click the Hangouts icon, and go to settings, at the bottom of the settings there is an option to sign out.
This seems to take care of it, and apparently this was the app Google complains about when trying to go invisible. -
13" MBP Mid 2010 won't wake up after upgrade to Mavericks from Lion
Hi
I read numerous threads regarding this problem from Mac Minis to Mac Pros and also MBA and MBP. After upgrade from Lion to Mavericks, my MBP cannot wake up. I have to hold the power button down to force it to turn off then power it back up from hibernation. SMC reset, Mavericks reinstalled, Repaired Disk Permission, ram refresh, all done and did not help.
It helps whenever the computer goes to sleep, whether forcefully by choosing Sleep from the Apple Menu or by closing the lid.
Anyone please help, if not, APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS BUG.
Thanks
JPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

Memory RAM upgrade won't wake up after sleep mode
i just recently purchase a pair 16GB RAM of crucial CT2K8G3S160BM for newegg.com. Yeesterday i try put this on my macbook i7 intel 2.9 processor that crucial said is compatible. but found out everything was good until i close my mac lid for hibernate. What happen is, it won't wake up no matter what i do until a way of reset SMC. BTW i try stick by stick to plug in together with my original 4gb RAM together found out 1 was ok and other one was not. But somehow why the info of hardware show that memory ram 16GB was installed and was OK. Everything was run smooth even booting. The only problem is won't wake up after sleep mode. I already try reset smc, pram, delete startimage, delete powermanagement.file and also sudo hibernate 0-7. Did anyone had this same issue of me. I'm my curiousity will it be the bad ram or software problem.
i just google around and found this two both crucial ram. Both spec are the same but different model no.
CT102464BF160B 16GB and mine is CT2K8G3S160BM are this 2 same? but both same spec.

Occasionally flickering iMac screen after installing Yosemite
Occasionally flickering iMac ()intel) screen after installing Yosemite. Cannot yet specify when the flickering occurs, but it cover large sections of the screen. Absolutely annoying.
I also have this issue but only below 6 screen illumination steps (bars)
This flickering issue is active after waking up from sleep os screen sleep and if I increase the screen light to a setting higher than 6 screen step for a wile (30 seconds or so) and the reduce the light to a level below 6 steps it usually holds on without flickering.
This happens on an late 2009 iMac with nvidia card running OS X 10.10 and apple later upgrades but not (until now) on another same age and OS X version iMac I have but instead of the nvidia card it has an ATI
Question:
Has anyone tried to use the Mavericks nvidia graphic card driver with Yosemite? -

2009 iMac is running slowly after installing Yosemite
Dear Community -
I recently "upgraded" my OS to Yosemite ... unfortunately I had not gone to Mavericks in the meantime, so there's no way for me to re-install it.
Any suggestions for how to rescue my iMac from being a brick?
EtreCheck report is below ...
Thanks!
Scott
