IMac w/ iTunes7 no longer sees AirSpeakers - but PowerMac w/ iTunes8 is ok

After reading through about 15 pages of messages in this forum and the iTunes forums, I finally decided to post this since it seems to be unaddressed elsewhere. The problem is that AirSpeakers no longer shows as an option in iTunes on my iMac. The only thing about my system that changed was that my other computer started running iTunes 8.
My system consists of a G5 Power Mac, a G4 iMac, an AirPort Express hooked to the stereo, an Apple TV, also hooked to the stereo, and a Netgear router to network everything. The PowerMac and the iMac are cabled to the router for speed since I share files a lot between the two. iTunes on both computers showed the option of output to computer speakers, AirSpeakers or Apple TV. Both computers have music sharing turned on and that works. Both computers show up on the Apple TV and stream movies to it without a problem. So I was fairly confident that the network was set up and working fine.
I generally accept all system updates so the PowerMac is running the last version of Tiger and the iMac is running the last version of Panther. So when the update notice showed up on the PowerMac with a security update and an iTunes update, I let it download and install while going on with my work without a second thought. Later in the day, using the iMac, when I opened iTunes, it said there was a newer version available, so I let it update as well... Update did its thing and then reported the iMac's software is already up to date(?) Seemed a little odd, so when I tried again with the same result and I just assumed that Panther must be too old for this new iTunes. Alright, not really a problem until I tried use the iMac to play my grandaughter's bedtime music through the AirSpeakers, but AirSpeakers are no longer shown as an option - just the computer's speakers and the Apple TV (which I have never tried.) Now, in order to get music from the iMac to the AirSpeakers I have to route it through the PowerMac - and if I want to listen to music while I work in the evening, it'll be kid music until she falls asleep and I can disconnect the PowerMac from the AirSpeakers.
So, are there any thoughts on this issue? I really don't have a problem with iTunes 8, unless it has convinced my AX not to talk to iTunes 7. I've seen comments from people with worse problems than mine consider reverting to iTunes 7 after installing iTunes 8, but that seems like a lot of work, if this could be solved with a configuration adjustment somewhere. 'Where' seems to be the question.

Yes, this can happen. I've seen it on occasion. It happens more in some networks than others and is related to DHCP I belive. I don't know of a solution, but it's just cosmetic.
You can always change the computer name back and remove the (2) from the name.
The other settings are not related to this. Repairing permissions won't help either. This is a networking issue and related to your router and your network and Bonjour and some other things.

A printer that is directly connected has to be recognised to be installed..
I guess the first thing to do is open system profiler and check that the USB is recognising the printer.. If so then the issue is purely drivers.. if not it is bad usb cable.. bad usb port.. bad printer. Plug it into the computer via a powered usb hub.
If the USB does see the printer but the drivers don't work.. I stand by the comment.. delete all printers and start again.. multiple printers can mess things up equally as well as old drivers.. especially if you did an upgrade install.
What a shame you didn't buy the network version.. in the future.. never buy usb.. always buy network printers. Any printer called a workgroup printer without network is a contradiction in terms.
Once you get it working on the computer then you need to start all over again to get it running on the TC again.. man ethernet or wireless printer looks better and better all the time. usb .. shudder.

My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.

If your computer doesn't see the phone when you plug it in, you may have to take it to an Apple Store.

Connection To Airport Extreme Good, But It No Longer Sees Internet?

I have my airport extreme daisy chained to my verizon wireless router with an Ethernet cable, and this has worked great until now. My verizon wireless router is still working and connected to the Internet, but my airport extreme no longer sees the Internet yet I am still able to connect to it with my Mac book.

When I connect wireless to the AE it shows a connection to it, but I am unable to access the Internet. When I connect wireless to my primary router I am able to access the Internet.
This is why I believe the AE is not connected to the Internet.
I tried the unplug for 15 minutes and plug it back in with no luck. I do have a green light on, I am showing a connection to it from the Mac book, but still no email no web surfing, no Internet. If I unplug the Ethernet cable from the back of the AE and connect it directly to my Mac book Internet works just fine. So the feed is good, but no wireless Internet coming from the AE.

I don't know what I did, but Aperture no longer sees my HD as online, and I can't get my photo versions since the HD is not online. I see it in Finder, but Aperture no longer recognizes it. Does someone know how to fix this?

I see it in Finder and can see the original files and even copy them from Finder, but Aperture no longer recognizes the HD, and when I try to work with the picture, it doesn't let me because it says that the master is in a volume that's offline. Does someone know how to fix this?

Just to clarify:
Does Aperture not see the drive at all (that is, does Aperture also not see the drive in the import and export dialogue) or are only the Master Files disconnected?
If Aperture does not recognize the drive at all, check the permission settings of the drive in the "Get Info" panel and make sure you have read/write access, also the "Ignore ownership on this volumn" checkmark, this should be set.
If correcting the permissions does not help, make sure you have a backup, and then use "Disk Utility" to run a check and to repair the volumn, if necessary.
If Aperture can see the drive on import and export, but only does not see the master image files, then try to reconnect your masters.
Create a smart album or use a Search with the rule: "File status: offline", to select all images that need reconnecting to their masters.
Right click on the first image of the selection.
From the Pop-up window select "Locate referenced Files..."
Now the "Reconnect All" button should appear.
Click it.

Try Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

I suffered with numbers next to my unit's name in Shared Devices, Finder Pane.
What I did was turned off my Time Capsule and whilst it was off I renamed my Macbook Pro in System Preferences / Shared.
I turned on the Time Capsule and thus far, 12 hours later the change has stuck.
There are many people suffering this bug, it's to do with ghosting on your network... Where your current machine see's itself as a ghost, hence you get a numbered mac...???

IMac G5 can no longer see Macbook on my network

I have a home network on a wireless linksys router. I use an iMac G5 and MacBook. Both computers were working fine and could see one another. Now the iMac no longer sees the MacBook. It CAN see my Dell Laptop when it is on the network and connects fine. My MacBook sees the iMac no problem.
Both computers have file sharing and web sharing on.
I have tried logging on and off my accout to see if the finder on the iMac can see the macbook. Nothing changes.
I have tried connecting the computers directly with an ethernet cable, nothing.
Please help. I'm new to this

Should work the same for Ethernet, Wireless, FW, what have you.
That question has been asked more than a few times, I think answered too, but I can't remember for sure... messed up aliases, Passwords, Permissions, Files???

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
Check the network

MacBook Air No Longer Sees Remote External Drive

I have an iMac with a FW800 connected external hard drive. I use it for Time Machine backups. Also use an Airport Extreme for wireless connection. My MacBook Air at one time was able to "see" that external drive via the Airport and I used it to backup the laptop with Time Machine. Now, all of a sudden, the MBA no longer sees the external drive. What has happened? I use the MBA only occasionally, and told Time Machine to backup only when I tell it to. So, LOTS probably has changed since the last backup. But, what change has broken this connection? My iMac sees it just fine and does Time Machine backups just fine. When I want to share the DVD drive of the iMac, that works as it should. I just can't see that dang external drive any longer. Both machines are at 10.5.6
Can you folks give me some places to start looking to get things working again?

My old PowerPC G4 no longer sees any wireless networks

My old PowerPC G4 no longer sees any wireless networks. The PowerPC and my new iMac was powered off for a week. When I powered them on, the iMac found the usual wireless networks that are seen around here but the PowerPC did not see ANY! Even though they sit next to each other!! The G4 worked fine before and was connected to the internet.
The G4 has an AirPort card in it and IS enabled. Is the problem with the card (how do I verify?) or did something get turned off on the re-boot?
BTW the AirPort card does shows up in the system info and has firmware version 9.52 but states that "wireless network not available" under the Current Wireless Network.
How do I fix this?

As this is an old G4, I presume you have a PCI network card.
I had a similar problem on my son's old G4. After a lot of messing around thinking it was a software problem, I discovered that the antenna was damaged and did not make a good connection to the card. I could get it to work intermittently by pushing it on. The solution was to buy a new card.
So try manipulating the antenna connection at the back of your mac to see if you can get a signal.

ITunes no longer sees my iPad device

Every now and again iTunes ceases to recognose my iPad. I use an iMac, iPad, old MacBook and have Apple TV and Time Capsule.
I set a reminder in Calendar to sync/backup my iPad every week with my iMac but every so often, it just doesn't work. I haven't changed the settings but there's no Device listed in the sidebar and it's greyed out as an option in the dropdown menu. There's no summary button either.
I'm very nervous about rebooting stuff because I don't want to lose what I've got.

I have the same issue, I set my iPad2 to sync over wifi - but the PC now no longer sees it, and the only answer I've seen on the boards is to plug the iPad in via a USB cable and uncheck the box for wireless syncing... but... it's not recognizing the iPad via USB either, simply as a camera device.
... you can see the problem here, I'm sure :-)
If it isn't recognized, I don't ever see the iPad in my iTunes in order to turn off wifi sync - and on the iPad itself there is no visible way to switch it back either
Any ideas?
