Image/File Path

hi there,
have a slight poblem regarding a file path, when running it (preview) in netbeans the following is fine
String path = "src\\Game\\images\\character\\man.gif";However the distributed version no longer looks from src\\ its already in Game\\
So the dist version (jar file) can no longer display
man.gifAny ideas?
Thanks

Code snippets are next to useless. For example, this snippet fails to explain what getImg(String) does or how it does it(1). But please don't go on to post a bunch of other snippets you feel explains the problem. For better help sooner, post an SSCCE.
1) My answers to your latest question would be different if the getImg(String) method was treating that String as a string representation of a File or URL, for instance. But either way I would advise you limit the getImg() method to accept either a File or URL as appropriate, rather than a String representing the same.
The URL path, is correct thoHow do you know that?(2) Where/how was it checked?
2)
- Do a..
prompt> jar -tf the.jar.. & copy/paste the output here.
- Check the URL returned from getResource(String) via System.out or System.err.

• How To Access JSP Image file Path inside JavaBean Class

In my Webapplication,i have jsp and javabeans files. i need to send one image file path contains in Image folder to JavaBean[MyBean.java].
From MyBean i am trying to display that image using PdfGen Application[JAR] in a new PDF Document.
The Web Application Structure is as
MyWebApp
Image
\ mypic.gif
JSP
\myjsp.jsp
WEB-INF
classes
\pack.MyBean.java
My Question :
Inside the webapplication[JSP] the image file is accessed as a URL.(like http://localhost:7001/mywebapp/Image/mypic.gif). but From JavaBean: How To access this file? becz inside javabean it needs a complete system path..How to solve this problem? plz send me any solutions related to my problem....Thank U.

Dear Madruguinha!
Thank you very much for your tips.
but i find another one method for accessing the image.
// Inside Servlet or JSP
String realPath=getServletContext().getRealPath("Image"+"/pic1.gif");
Now we can send this exact system path variable to any java beans or java class that needs the image path as "drivename:\foldername\filename" like "c:\myflolder\mypic.gif" and not web context path.

• Passing correct image-file path in flashVar from jsp into embedded Flex application

I have an application that embeds an image viewer, written in
Adobe Flex within a jsp page running in a J2EE application on
Tomcat 5.5. The Flex code is a one-line modification of the
application displayed at (
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/fig_panzoom/).
The image viewer is founded and loaded in the output to the
screen, but I cannot get the Image Viewer to display the image
correctly, even though I succeed when either I run the .swf from
the command-line or from an HTML page.
My webapp is called FRSApp. The directory structure is, under
FRSApp:
myTest.html
jsp/catalog.jsp
pan_zoom_files/images/map.jpg
The JSP code is thus,
code:
<%@ taglib prefix="mm" uri="FlexTagLib" %>
<mm:mxml
source="../pan_zoom_files/FIG_PanZoom_for_jsp.mxml" >
<mm:flashvar name="myVar"
value="/FRSApp/pan_zoom_files/images/map.jpg"/>
</mm:mxml>
the code within PanZoom.mxml is,
private var _imageURL:String =
Application.application.parameters.myVar;
<ns1:ImageViewer
id="imageViewer"
imageURL="{ _imageURL }"
bitmapScaleFactorMax="5"
bitmapScaleFactorMin=".05"
width="100%" height="100%"
x="0" y="0"/>
I have tried other paths to the image file, including
images/map.jpg [required by command-line execution of .swf]
pan_zoom_files/images/map.jpg [required by HTML page
(myTest.html) that embeds the .swf file]
I have succeeded in loading image viewer embedded in the jsp
page when the image path is hard-coded in the mxml file, by means
of the following code:

The error is either a "failed to load image" generated by the
Image Viewer code, or a Flex system error message, resembling a
null-pointer exception:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of
a null object reference.

at mx.managers::SystemManager/initializeTopLevelWindow()
at mx.managers::SystemManager/docFrameHandler()
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Solved the problem. I had made several mistakes. One of them
was to pass in the J2EE context path when what was needed was the
fully qualified image url:
http://localhost/FRSApp/pan_zoom_files/images/earth-map_small.jpg.
The second mistake was to assume the flashvar variable could be
picked up by initializing Action Script in the the mxml file,
designated by <mx:script> tags. No, the flash variable will
only be visible within the <mx:Application>
</mx:Application> tags.

Hi Tony,
The image file does support relative path but it requires a little coding.

• Imported web app image file path shows no picture

I am trying to import a file path into the image (type) field of a web app, but the image does not appear on page. If I go into the web app item, do nothing but click 'update', the image will appear on page.
I have tried importing using Auto-Detect, Comma delimited (CSV), and Tab delimited with the same result. I have exported the .CSV from Numbers (app), and tried copy/paste into TextEdit for Tab delimited. Text is UTF-8.
Is there some trick to getting the import of a file path to work? Do I need to escape the "/" in the file path (ie. /_assets/images/<filename> to \/_assets/images/<filename> )?

As I am still testing this web app, I uploaded an image through dreamweaver, then went to the web app, clicked the 'select image' link next to the Image field, and continued to fill in the other info.
Once that was done -- so I had one example web app item in the spreadsheet -- I exported the template, filled it in with additional data, and imported in the various ways described. I am only using the one image. http://mainedreamvacation.businesscatalyst.com/specials
I get this image visible on page, I had to go in and update each web app item. Tedious for testing; impractical otherwise.

• InDesign vs. Quark in regards to image file paths

The small daily newspaper for which I work is transitioning from Quark 7.5 to InDesign 8 (the one that comes with CS6). We're using Markzware's Q2ID to convert some of our Quark documents to InDesign but ID doesn't update the images within a document. Here's an example:
Quark image path — Vol2/DPS-ADS/GRAPHICS/C_22/DISCOUNT LIQ. BUILDING 9-4-01-2
InDesign image path — Applications/Adobe InDesign CS6/Adobe InDesign CS6.app/Contents/MacOS/Vol2/DPS-ADS/GRAPHICS/C_22/DISCOUNT LIQ. BUILDING 9-4-01-2
Is there a way to adjust ID so it doesn't include the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS6/Adobe InDesign CS6.app/Contents section?
I'm sure I'm missing the big picture here. Thanks.

David, I contacted Markzware support more than once. Our version was upgraded from 6.1.10.4 to 6.10.52. If the latter isn't the correct update, please let me know.
We didn't have any luck using either software version. The paths for images always started with the computer on which Q2ID was installed. Also, paragraph and character style sheets have been a problem. We're to the point of rebuilding everything. Most of the settings within each paragraph and character style was correct, but for some reason they wouldn't display quite correctly.
I'm familiar with the base level of Quark 7.5 and new to InDesign, so I'm sure my "newbie-ness" didn't help the situation. Unfortunately, no one here was much wiser. Since the newspaper downturn management is less willing to bring in an expert to help with the transition.
Our basic page templates have been rebuilt in InDesign so we're past that stage. We do have lots of other Quark documents than need to be converted and I'm going to install the 6.10.52 on a different computer and see perhaps if I can get better results.
Thanks.

• Linked Image file path cleanup

Regex frustrates me, especially with trying to work with slashes... I just haven't got it yet. I'm looking just for a code snippet to thrown in another clean up script I use. To standardize to UNC, as some templates were created on workstaions (also Mac vs PC) that were incositently mapped (i.e. W:/ or X:/ etc.). Blown a day messing with this so far, maybe reaching out for help would work... Thanks in advanced!
var gDoc = app.activeDocument;
var gLinks = gDoc.links;
var gCounter = 0;
for (var i = gLinks.length-1; i >= 0 ; i--) {
var currentLink = gLinks[i];
var oldPath = currentLink.filePath;
oldPath = oldPath.replace(/:|\\/g, "\/");
// Intention
// IF the drive letter W:/ or X:/ is used
// IF case is \\OHFILE02\Personalization\
// THEN
// REPLACE with \\ohfile02\Personalization\ (string replace: would be case sensitive, not just all to lowerCase)
// ALSO above would be for all linked images as it looks like it's looping through currentLink, is that correct?
Thanks again!

I don' t pretend to know all the ins and outs of this, but I've beat my head on the same wall to know that you have to use two slashes to find or replace one. In other words:
\\ = "\"
\/  = "/"
\\\\ = "\\"
I also know that you can use "/i" in the first part of the replace statement to make it case insensitive. "/gi" makes it global and case insenstive so:
oldpath.replace(/\\\\ohfile02\\Personalization\\/gi,"whatever")
should catch all variations of upper and lowercase, so you end up with "whatever\Personalization\"
As for the replace string, I think that what you type is what you get.

AFAIK, this is not the correct way to set the image location.
We call the working directory as context, so inside the context root along with WEB-INF, maintain a folder with name img and put all the images in that directory.
You can use either .\<image_folder> or the optimum way would be (if you are using JSPs) to use getContext() method and traverse accordingly.
FYI,,, using getContext() will give you context root directory, from there it is as simple as accessing any other folder.
Hope this answers your question.

• File Path Visible When I Hover Over Images

Hi,
I converted a PowerPoint document to a PDF. The PowerPoint document includes images (GIF, JPEG). When I hover my cursor over the image in the PDF I created I can see the file path C:\User\User Name\Photo\File Name.JPG.
Is there a setting in the PDF that I can 'unselect' so I don't see the file path when I hover over images?

• How to get images dynamically from database without file paths in the table field

I have a MS-Access database. I am working with ASP.NET. In the database there is product table in which I have "CodeNo" as a field which is a text field, and the product codes like "SM-R-2035". I also have another field "Image" which is also a text field and which have a file path in it corresponding to the particular product Image (e.g. Images\Products\SM-R-2035.jpg). So far every thing is ok. I have to update this site very frequently and lots of images are added each and every time. Its a tedious work to type the paths and file name every time and it also take a lot of time.
What I am asking is : Is it possible to get images from a specific folder at runtime which is referenced by the "code no" itself and not the file path from the database. (Say at run time the "code no" is referenced from the database and the corresponding image is loaded dynamically from the specified folder). In other word I want to avoid the tedious work of typing.
Can any one help with this issue. Any other simple suggestions are welcome.

All you need to do is simple concatenation to obtain the path for the image file. You didn't mention whether you are using VB.Net, C# or some other language to do your coding.
If the code in your database is SM-R-2035, the file name is SM-R-2035.jpg and the path to the images foilder is Images\Products\SM-R-2035.jpg, Conceptually here is what you need to do:
dim code_var
dim path_var
code_var = the code you obtain from your relevant field in the database
path_var = "Images\Products\" & code_var & ".jpg"
Now path_var is what you would call to obtain the image from your images folder.

How i do that
Regards

The functionality that you require is not available to VBA/COM - it is only exposed via C/C++.
However, you could retrieve the ENTIRE page image to the clipboard and then use whatever VB/VBA methods you choose to grab a section of the image.
Of course, this all assumes that Adobe Acrobat is installed on each person's computer that will be using the solution since Reader does not have the necessary APIs and Acrobat can't be installed on a server.

• Set the file path of get image method

I have a program that takes multiple IV curves of some nano-devices and saves each set of the IV curve data into a CSV file. I also have a graph on the main screen that gives me a visual representation of the data after each IV curve is taken.
My program automatically names each IV curve with a different file path and at the end of the program execution I could have 50-60 IV curves. What i'm trying to do is have LabVIEW export an image file of the graph on my front panel and save it with the save file path as the CSV file.
Currently i'm using "Invoke Node -> Export Image" method, which is working fine and doing exactly what I want because i can tell it what file path to save to....however it is just a black and white image.
There is another method that I found here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5AE4ADCBB65A6D8F86256FBF007A1AC1
That talks about a "Invoke Node -> Get Image Method" which physically captures the colorful chart on the front panel. However I cannot figure out a way to tell it the file path to save to. So when I run my program, after each IV curve, it takes the image from the front panel and then on the next IV curve, it interrupts my program to ask me to overwrite the previous file because it's using the same name.
Is there a way to tell the Get Image Method to save to a specific file path?

Hi Puneet_K,
Thanks for the code....I didn't know you could wire the output of the image data to a write VI. It makes sense in theory and i thought it would work....but it's not actually writing the PNG. I even tried BMP and JPEG but no results.
I'm posting an image of my code with the before and after. The before uses export image and it works, the after uses the get image and it doesn't create the file.

• Renaming images without breaking file path

I've got about 20 images in a RoboHelp 10 project that I need to rename. I can find them in the Project Manager pod and I see the option to rename them there, but if I do so, it breaks the link to the image in any topics in which they already appear. If someone can explain how to do one of two things, I'd be greatly appreciative:
1. Rename the image so that the topics it appears in automatically update to the new file path
2. Find a list of all topics in which the image appears so I know where to go to fix the file paths once I change the name
I've had no luck at all Googling this issue, and my next resort will be a topic-by-topic search, which I really don't want to do.
Thanks so much in advance!
Kaylin

Thank you - I tried renaming yesterday and the link broke, tried again this morning and it's fine. Must have been doing something stupid inadvertently.
Thanks again!
