Image from a stream

I need a way to produce an empty image, display it, and then fill it in from a stream being loaded in another thread. I am working on a web browser-like tool, and I need to be able to do this in order to get multiple images loading at the same time.
Can anyone help me with how to do this?

No real solution, but interesting...

sentence at the bottom
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/painting/improvingImageAnim.html
"Most of the time is taken up by initiating HTTP connections. Each image file requires a separate HTTP connection, and each connection can take several seconds to initiate"
MediaTracker eems to use thread(s?), but don't think it's all at once. See waitForAll(time ms)

You might look at the source for this one.
That's all can find now

  • Loading an image from a stream

    Hello,
    I am trying to load several images into the database from a
    ZipInputStream.
    When I use the the loadDataFromInputStream method the first
    image loads properly. But when I try to extract the next zipped
    file from the stream I get an error saying the stream has been
    closed.
    Has anyone else had this problem? No of any fixes?
    I am going to write the zipped images out the filesystem and
    then reload them but that seems like a big waste of time and
    resources.
    Help please,
    Abel Rauch

    The current implementation of loadDataFromInputStream() closes
    the InputStream after the content gets loaded.
    You may have to write a CustomInputStream class which extends
    from the ZipInputStream. Then override the close() method to do
    nothing or call getNextEntry(). You should be able to use this
    CustomInputStream in loadDataFromInputStream().

  • Getting image from input stream

    Hi,
    I'm using the following code in a midlet to get an image from a inputstream from a servlet.
    is = hc.openDataInputStream();
    ByteArrayOutputStream bStrm = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    int d;
    while ((d = is.read()) != -1)
    bStrm.write(d);
    byte imageData[] = bStrm.toByteArray();
    im = Image.createImage(imageData, 0, imageData.length);
    ImageItem ii = new ImageItem(null, im, ImageItem.LAYOUT_DEFAULT, null);
    if (viewMap.size() != 0)
    viewMap.set(0, ii);
    else
    viewMap.append(ii);
    a problem occurs at
    im = Image.createImage(imageData, 0, imageData.length);
    and a 'exception java/lang/IllegalArgumentException'
    is generated. The inputstream is definitely not null.
    Can anyone see what I am doing wrong or recommend any alternative approaches?
    Thanks

    hi ,
    wouldn't "getResourceAsStream()" work here?

  • Reading an image from input stream

    Hello all,
    I'm familiar with setting up an input stream but I have never actually done it. I'm making a connection to a URL (a JPG image). I would like to read the JPG from the URL using an input stream. With the URL class I was able to open a stream, however, I'm not exactly sure how to read from it.
    I'm aware of the read() method and read(byte[]) methods of inputstream. But how do I actually implement it?
    If I use read(), then bytes come in individually... do I need to combine them at one point? If I read the bytes into an array, how do I determine what size to set the array and how do I convert the byte array into an Image or ImageIcon?
    Please advise.
    R. Alcazar

    Hi,
    See http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/docs/guide/2d/api-jpeg/
    and especially JPEGCodec.createJPEGDecoder(java.io.InputStream).
    Anyway, you might not want to do it with InputStream. Instead you could try something like this:
    URLConnection con = // get it somehow
    Image i = (Image) con.getContent(new Class[] {Image.class});
    However, If you still want to use the InputStream, here you go with some pseudo code:
    InputStream in = // get the input stream with JPEG data...
    JPEGImageDecoder dec = JPEGCodec.createJPEGDecoder(in);
    Image i = dec.decodeAsBufferedImage();
    You can get the InputStream from the URLConnection with getInputStream(). However, I don't remember if the InputStream contained also the HTTP (or what ever protocol the URL specifies) headers. If it contains the headers, then you must rip them of before giving the InputStream to the JPEGCodec...
    If this is the case, try calling the URLConnection.getHeaderFields() method before getInputStream. This might not work though.

  • Problem reading image from input Stream

    I'm having a problem reading an image through an input stream. It gives me the error
    Premature end of JPEG file
    sun.awt.image.ImageFormatException: JPEG datastream contains no imageand my code looks like
    public Image getImage(String name, String command){
              if(command.equals(pCode)){
                   Image image=null;
                   System.out.println(name);
                   InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream(name);
                   BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(is);
                    byte[] byBuf =new byte[10000];
                     try {
                        int byteRead = bis.read(byBuf,0,10000);
                   } catch (IOException e) {
                        // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                        e.printStackTrace();
                     image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(byBuf);
                   return image;
              return null;
         }And the string name looks when printed is: usr/images/PRLogo.jpg

    If the image is bigger than 10K, this code will break.
    You can pass an InputStream to javax.imageio.ImageIO.read. That's probably an easier option than trying to do the buffering yourself.

  • Stream-in images from client to server,without running the transmit code

    Hello all,
    Im using JMF for my current project.Right now,I am trying to only recieve images from the client without the client transmitting it.That is I dont want the transmit code to run on the client.
    I should just be able to stream in the images from client to server, without running the transmit code on client.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks in advance

    <Side A>
    You'd just need to write an application that doesn't have a GUI (so, a console-based application) that listens on some pre-determined port for a message to start broadcasting. Maybe you'd send it the IP/PORT number to start broadcasting on. Once it receives that message, it'd start broadcasting the web cam to the IP/PORT number until it received a message to stop. Once it stops, it'll just go back to waiting for the next "start" signal.
    <Side B>
    On the other side, you'd write an application that sends the start messages, receives/displays the videos, and then sends the stop signal. This will have a GUI, and be your "control program" so to speak.
    Then, once of have both of those programs working...if you're using Linux, you're done. If you're using Windows, you'd need to modify the <Side A> program so that it can run as a Windows service.
    There are a lot of ways to do this, you can google it or look at the following link:

  • Duplication issue related to photo stream, Moments, and how iPhoto handles images coming in from the stream.

    Pre-iOS 8 deleting photos from the stream was easy & comprehensive while within the 1000 pic/30 day window. Deletions affected ALL DEVICES, including the iPhoto Library. It just worked. This was controlled from the Cameral Roll.
    Now that the Camera Roll is back, the function described above wasn’t restored. Streamed images are copied to the Library and do not get removed as before when deletions happen from the Camera Roll or from the Streamed album.
    In iOS Moments LOADS of duplicate pairs appear as a result. One of each pair has a trash can and the other doesn’t. The trash can one informs the user that the photo will be deleted from the stream and all devices, but it does not delete the image from the Library on the Mac.
    Can we get the pre-iOS8 image management from Cameral Roll back without having to re-delete images from iPhoto Library on the Mac. Otherwise what’s the point of the photo stream?
    Mac Pro w/10.9.5
    iPhone 6 w/ iOS 8.1
    iPhoto 9.5.1 w/ 8052 images
    Using photo stream, but NOT iCloud betas

    Anything you save to the camera roll automatically gets put into the photo stream. You do not need to import and export to the computer as ckuan said. I have saved from email and the web and when they get saved they go into the photo stream automatically.

  • How to stream a png image from a Servlet to an Applet?

    Hello,
    I'm trying to write to an output stream (in my servlet) a png image created with JFreeChart library and read it from an input stream (in my applet).
    So,i'm using
    response.setContentType("image/png");
          response.setBufferSize(1000000);
          ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
          System.out.println("starting writing image object");
          this.genPNG(chart);
          ChartUtilities.writeChartAsPNG(out, chart, 729, 447);On the applet side i'm trying to read the input stream with ImageIO.read(InputStream)
    InputStream in = servletCon.getInputStream();
          //Image case
          ObjectInputStream objInputStream = new ObjectInputStream(in);
          Object o = objInputStream.readObject();
          Image img = ImageIO.read(objInputStream);
          im = new ImageIcon(img);But nothing happens.It returns me a null object.
    On the servlet side if i write the image on disk it's ok.(This means that the servlet is doing correctly it's job of writing the image).
    Do you have any ideas and possibly 2-3 lines of code on how to write a png image in a stream and how to read the stream +reconstruct the image.
    I searched a lot but not found anything (there's something out there for jsp only).
    Thanks you in advance
    Chris

    You're right.I forgot those Object Streams because i was passing another serialized object which wasnt serializable,then i changed by passing the complete image but forgotten those streams.
    It worked gracefully with simple Input Output Streams and ImageIO.
    Thank you very much
    Chris

  • Figuring out how to extract images from a PDF file

    Hi,
    I'm trying to write a small app that extracts all images from a PDF file. I already wrote a nice parser and it works good but the only problem is that I can't quite figure out from the reference how to decode all images in a PDF file to normal files such as tiffs, jpegs, bmps etc. For now I'm focusing on XObject images and not dealing with inline images.
    From what I understand so far just by trying and looking at open sources I figured that if I see a XObject Image with a DCTDecode filter, taking the stream data without doing anything to it and saving it as a jpeg file works. But doing the same to FlateDecoded streams or CCITTFax didn't work.
    What is the right way to properly extract the images?

    In general you have to
    * decode the stream
    * extract the pixel data
    * use ColorSpace, BitsPerComponent, Decode and Width to unpack pixel
    values
    * reconstruct an image file format according to its specification
    There are no other shortcuts. The DCTDecode shortcut (which doesn't
    work for CMYK JPEG files) is just a piece of fantastic good luck.

  • Deleting all images from iPhone (ios 6.1.4)

    I am currently trying to delete all the images from my phone to clear space for other applications.
    (Transferring them to my computer was an excruciating process and actually forced me to purchase an external program, but I digress.)
    I can't delete photos at all in the iPhone photos app. Going edit > select photo > delete causes the Photos app to crash every time. This happens whether I have selected one or more than one photos. I have restarted the app (double tap home button and delete the app from the fold-up menu) several times, but the problem recurs when I try again. In any case, I have over 37,000 photos so this would be a horribly inefficient way to do it.
    Key things to note
    1) I only have Windows 7 on my PC. Therefore, I cannot use any mac related programs like iPhoto to mass delete images.
    2) Windows explorer is unable to consistently recognize my iPhone. I have gone into device manager many times and reinstalled the driver, and attempted other fixes I found off of Google, but alas for past several months I have not been able to get it to recognize the iPhone as a camera or as anything at all. As of recent weeks, the iPhone does not even show up in the list of external devices plugged into the computer regardless of driver reinstallation, and only my external HDD appears.
    3) Back in the past when the Autoplay window did show up, there was never an option to import pictures and videos- furthermore, selecting the sole 'open device to view files' simply showed me a series of blank folders in my iPhone.
    At that time, I already had had my settings set to show hidden files and folders, so I was mystified that windows explorer insisted no files were present in the folders when there were quite obviously photos on my phone.
    I am unable to import photos using windows explorer. As such, this fix cannot be used: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
    I am very disappointed at how nonfunctional the interaction between Windows and Apple devices has become. In the past, I was able to import pictures from my iphone 4S this same PC using windows explorer's autoplay popup, and it is sad that this is unsupported with the  iPhone 5.
    4) iTunes, which is on the same computer, does recognize the iPhone. I can sync perfectly fine.
    5) Very few of the images have been imported from my computer. Most of them were taken or saved on the phone itself, so removing sync of photos from the sync process doesn't do anything.
    6) There are no photos on Photo Stream or Photo Library, because I only recently found out about these features (1-2 days ago researching solutions). All 37,000+ photos are in Camera roll. This means that I cannot turn off Photo stream and have the pictures disappear like in this fix. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5099543?start=0&tstart=0
    Given all of this information and my limitation in options, how do I delete all of the images on my phone efficiently?

    Incidentally, restoring the phone to factory settings is not a viable solution because I have a lot of apps, notes and other material which I do not wish to lose and would not be stored in a backup.

  • Saving Images from URL

    Hi
    i am trying to save an image from the internet i am able to view them in my program but when i try to save i get the Error
    javax.imageio.IIOException: Can't read input file!
    If anyone could point out were i am going wrong or give a few suggestions on what to do this would be very helpful.
    Below is the code i am using to to get the image from the internet and try to save it
    public Image loadURL()
         Image image = null;
         try
              URL url = new URL(UrlLocation);
              image = ImageIO.read(url);
              File2 = url.toString();
         catch (IOException e)
              e.printStackTrace();
         return image;
    public void saveImage(String ImageType)
              try
                   FileDialog openfiledialog = new FileDialog(new Frame(),
                   "Please choose Image to save",FileDialog.SAVE);
                   openfiledialog.setVisible(true);
                   if (openfiledialog.getFile() != null)
                        File file = new File(openfiledialog.getDirectory(),
                        openfiledialog.getFile() + "." + ImageType);
                            File outputfile = file;
                        ImageIO.write(out, ImageType, outputfile);
              catch (IOException e)
                   e.printStackTrace();
         }

    Umm, you need to actually read the image bytes from the external webserver. It will do you good to read the javadoc for URLConnection (retrieved through URL). You can read an InputStream from it, and then you can for example put what you read into an ByteArrayOutputStream. You can ask this output stream for a byte array containing what has been written to it, and then you can write this byte array into a FileOutputStream. There may be ways to make this more effective, but these steps are essentially what should happen to solve your problem.

  • I want to download an image from the url and image is in byte format

    hi
    i want to download an image from the url

    i need to finish this today
    pla reply if any body knows solution for this.
    thanks in advance
    Mraj

    You do not need to do anything - iPhoto always keeps the original and you can revert to it at any time
    If you want to be able to see the original and the cropped version in iPhoto at the same time duplicate the photo (this does not really duplicate but simply starts a new edit stream for the photo - command-d) and crop the duplicate
