Image of JAR/shortcut

Hello,
I've got a simple question, at least I think it's simple...
How can you change the image of a jar-file or when you make a shortcut of the jar-file to your desktop? So instead of the usual image (a sheet with the java-logo), a GIF-or JPG image is used. Is their any specific code for it?

Yes, okay, I know that, but how do programs like PowerISO or games or so do it then? Because the standardshortcut is an image that isn't included in the standard shortcutimages of Windows. And I didn't do anything to change it. So it has to be code-embedded, I suppose. But looking to your answer I would say that Java has no code to change the shortcutimage, yes?

Reading Images from JAR Files

Hi,
I am having a very difficult time being able to read images from a JAR file via my Applet. I have tried everything that I know about with no luck. The only way I can get this to work is to store the images individually in a sub directory of public_html on the websever. This works, but I would like the images to come down in a JAR file for performance reasons.
I am using Internet Explorer 5.5 for my browser. I checked the options and everything seems to be in order, but......
I would appreciate any feedback that anyone might have on this topic..........

once in a jar file i inserted a image
the jar file on clicking starts an frame.
so the image was for getting that image at the icon place at top and at minimized window
i could not get that image from jar file by new imageicon().getimage();
but i get the image if it is in the directory in which jar file is.....

First, I searched this one and no, I didn't find an answer. Loading images from jar files has been pretty much done to death but my problem is different. Please read on.
I have my application, a straight up executable running from Eclipse. It uses a jar file, call it JarA. JarA launches a GUI that is located in another jar file. Call it JarB. To recap:
My application calls JarA -> JarA loads classes from JarB -> JarB looks for images to place in a GUI it wants to show on the screen
When JarB goes to load an image the following happens:

The code from JarB that loads the image looks like this:

But I'm in hell right now because I don't know where to place the images to make this work or if you can even attempt to load images with a dependency chain like this.

Have you tried to move your image-files out of the jar file and place them in the sam folder as the jar-file? I think that would help.
When you try to load the image-file you get the NullPointerException because the program tries to read a file it can't find. Remember that a jar file IS a file and not a directory.
If you want to read somthing inside the jar-file you need to encode it first.
Have you tried to read the jar-file with winRar. It makes it easy to add and remove files in your jar-file.

Poblem with FXML to load image in jar using: Image url="@/myImage.png"/

If my FXML und image files are in a JAR-file then I have the Exception:

In jars it is case-sensitive:
<Image url="@/images/myImage.png"/>
is not the same as
<Image url="@/images/myImage.PNG"/>

Problem with Identifying images in JAR

Hi,
I am using Eclipse as JAVA IDE. I have a project X with a folder called images. which contains all the image files. In my classes I am refering to the images as <b>images/x.gif</b< (say). It works fine when I run it as a stand alone application. Now I want to export this as JAR when I do that and try running it using <b>java -jar X.jar</b>. It says its not able to find the file <b>x.gif</b>. Why is this happening and how do I over come this problem. Another question. I have a manifest file in which I have specified my Main Class. And an additional jar that its reffering to. Why was not there a mechanism for specfying that if in the manifest file. If you are refering to gifs in the application. Hope somebody could help me out.

You need to load images from JAR files this way:
ClassLoader cl = cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
Image im = cl.getResource("images/"+filename)This code will also work in your eclipse project if the files are located in /images/ in the project folder. Of course, they will have to be added to the jar in the same folder.

Loading image from jars only once in oracle forms 10g

I have an oracle forms 10g application which loads image from a jar. Every time i click on a button "A" that loads the image "image" on another button "B" in the same screen, a message is displayed in the java console "Loaded image: jar:https://+IP+/forms/java/+myjar+.jar!/image.gif". So after 10 clicks, i get the same message displayed 10 times. In the form, i've called:
SET_CUSTOM_PROPERTY(p_object_name, 1, 'IMAGE_NAME_ON', '/'||p_image_name);My question is the following:
- is there a way to load this image once and use it later without having to load it every time i clik on "A"? if yes, how?

Select it, hit command-i (or choose File -> Get Info), select the icon in the info window and paste something else there.

How can i acces the images from jar to with in jar

I want to now make a executable jar file which contain all class files and one jar file (which contain all images).
before jar i use

now what can i do and it is possible that no change in the path of image icon.

A jar inside a jar wouldn't be a good idea I don't think- you'd end up having to code around some things to get at the internal jar instead of being able to use code like "getResource()" like you posted.
Consider an ANT task that will handle building your jar for you, if this is a logistics issue. The task can unzip the image jar and shove it in with the application jar.

Get Images from jar. getResource() not working

I've read some of the posts in the forum and I've tried the solutions but still cant get the images in my program.

The ResourceBundle is a file named: Recursos.properties and it's in a folder inside the folder of my *.class and *.java And have this information:

This one, runs with the jar, but the images are not in the buttons and I get the Dialog message telling me that there was an error in loadImage. Check that method. I used this dialogs to track the error and the exception it's generated by:

in public URL getResource(String key) method.
2- I also tried to follow the instructions of this article that describes how to get resources from jars:

Are you putting the image files inside the jar? If you are, then use "jar tf jarfile.jar" to display the contents of the jar and make sure the files are there and inside the right directory. If you are not, then you can not use getClass().getResource() from a jar file because it will look inside the jar file.
If you are getting an error message, please post it.

Images in Jar files

I am creating a recipe book application. Everything is exactly how I want to so I am trying to make a jar file with it.
On the first screen that loads there is one image, when I make the jar file it doesn't seem to be able to find the image once I am outside of eclipse and running the jar.
I have created a folder in called resources in my scr folder (src/resources) this is where I am storing the image.
The method near the bottom (private void addPic()) is where I am having troubles.

Ok, so it works good on Mac, but if I try to use it on Windows it will not load the image,

Problem with images in .jar file

Hi all!
I've got a severe problem when deploying an application via web start:
the images withhin a deployed .jar file are not found.
So far I've tried a number of things to get the images back, none of which are working.
I've found different threads concerning this topic, e.g.:

You should take care of the directory structure according to the package structure.

Images in .jar file , "NullPointerException"

How do I show images which are present in .jar file.
e.g
Toolkit tKit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
URL logo = MyTool.class.getResource("images/icon.gif");
Image g1=tKit.getImage(logo);
this.setIconImage(globalleafs1);
this works both in c:\java MyTool
and while created in a .jar file
But when I use it for ImageIcon in a button, I get "NullPointerException" while working in a .jar file.
Here are the methods that I have tried to get it worked
1.
new2 = new JButton(new ImageIcon(ClassLoader.getResource("images/new.gif")));
2.
URL newim = MyTool.class.getResource("images/new.gif");
new2 = new JButton(new ImageIcon(newim));
But it too dont work. Please help me.
