IMovie 09 will no longer import Hitachi DVD Cam video

Before SL install, iM would import an Apple non-supported Hitachi DVD camera...the camera is visible on the USB port but not in iM....reinstalled iM, did the usual trouble shooting tips in iM help and iM support...such as turned the cam off and on, restart the laptop, reinsert USB cables, did a disk verify and repair permissions utility...did these many times...only on 1 occasion did the computer recognize the video and it imported it fine...another crazy thing is that the time of video capture is different from the the cam disk to iM - that may be due to the unsupported nature of the cam....
any ideas??

If 2 computers do not detect the camera then the issue is not the computer / iMovie.
Potential issues:
1.) The mode the camera is in. Make sure it is configured for PC Connect or Mass Storage mode. Check your manual to determine what the required mode is for your camera.
2.) The cable you are using between camera and computer is bad.
3.) Physical failure in the camera itself.
Try plugging the camera directly into the computer using USB (no hubs) while running on AC power and cycle through the various connection modes. See if the camera mounts on the desktop (as I assume it does normally).
If it fails to mount on either computer I would call Sony so they can verify the camera is in fact functional and even ask them what mode you need to be in for the computer to recognize it.

iPhoto will no longer import photos from any of my another cameras after importing photos from my iTouch.

Does the camera mount to the desktop so you can look to see what is there? Have you tried Image capture (in your applications folder) to import the photos? Have you tried unchecking hide previously imported to see what that shows? Do you have a USB card reader to try? When did you last reformat your memory card?
If you can get the photo off the card using any method do so and tehn use yoru camera's format command to reformat the card

  • Importing from DVD CAM

Hi, I just installed Adobe Premiere Pro but I don't know how to import my videos from my DVD CAM. Could anyone tell me how to import from DVD CAM?
    Thank you

Was just given 2 DVD cam discs containing footage that was shot at a concert I am editing. On reviewing the discs, I noticed that each song is assigned to a separate chapter on the DVD.   I'd really like to use this footage as it provides additional camera angles I didn't cover.  I am going to use my old Ulead Video Studio 8 program to convert the DVD files to mpg's for editing in Pr. (I will also check out the software Jeff mentioned).  I'm trying to convert each chapter on the DVD to an mpeg2 file so the files size is manageable.
The footage I shot is mini DV, and I plan on mixing the two sources.    What do I need to look out for as far as the "conversions/extra steps" you mentioned?
    Thanks.

  • Itunes will no longer import new tunes

i'm using itunes 7.6.2 on an imac running 10.5.2. i've been experiencing a lot of the same problems i've been reading about on here (discs disappear from the finder, cds no longer eject, etc...) but i've been importing new tunes with no trouble at all... until now.
all of a sudden itunes will no longer import anything whether i use file/import or drag and drop. when i use drag and drop the file appears on the playlist in grey for a second and then vanishes. otherwise itunes is playing tracks in my 17,500+ file library with no problem.
anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

    Hi
I have a similar problem with importing CD's in iTunes 7.6.2 (9) on 10.5.2. If I have iTunes open and insert a CD then the audio disc mounts on the desktop fine but the second that the disc is recognized in iTunes, the mount on the desktop disappears. No matter if I chose yes or no in the import window the disc also dismounts from within iTunes and the disc is just regarded as having disappeared all together. If I then eject and reinsert the disc everything runs smoothly ... and it is like this every time. I have to insert the disc twice for it to work
If instead I exit iTunes and the insert the disc then there is no problem what so ever. iTunes starts up automatically and I can press the import button to import flawlessly.
Odd behavior if you ask me ...

  • Iphoto 09' will no longer import the photos from my ipad

    Hi,
I have iphoto 09' and it will no longer import photos from my ipad. The ipad is 2nd gen and run ios 7 (it is updated as of Dec. 13'). It says it does not support jpg. files, though it always has before. I have tried using image capture as well as preview, neither works. Image capture and preview say something about an image capture error -9129 or something. I have also tried to bypass completely by copying and drag/dropping onto a USB key and into a desktop folder. Neither of these work either. I have aslo tried using a new library in iphoto and it doesn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and cheers, Dori

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
    Happy New Year

  • IMovie 8.0.6 will no longer import .mov or .dv files

Trying to troubleshoot my wife's iMovie (2008 MacBook, OS 10.5.8) issues:
-no longer imports .mov or .dv files (worked up until a week ago or so)
-in testing, my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.3) imports said files without issues
-we've deleted apple.com.iMovie08.plist file from MB, no change
Import process looks on MB like it is going to work, but import 'barometer' shows only briefly before disappearing, with no import resulting. Troubleshooting is made more frustrating given that this worked previously on this machine. Perhaps a system update or something similar is the cause?
    Any help welcome...
    Cheers,
    Andrew

forgot to mention above that MB in question will import short .m4v files without drama. Files we are attempting to import as .dv or .mov files are about 20Gb.
    cheers,

  • Can I import movies originating from video's that were put on a DVD import in IMovie?, Can I import movies originating from video's that were put on a DVD import in IMovie?

Can I import movies originating from video's that were put on a DVD import into IMovie?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Photo app can no longer import using the camera connetion kit

I have been using the ipad photo app for some time to transfer photos from my digital camera to the ipad using the camera connection kit. Now, I can no longer import photos via the kit - the app is simply stuck showing a spinning icon on the first image in the series.
    What I do:
Insert the SD card into the connection kit
    Insert connection kit into ipad
Wait for photo app to appear
    See list of images
    Press import all
After this I can see the spinning icon on the first image in the series - it will stay like this, presumably until battery runs out and the ipad dies (I only left it to its own devices for an hour or so..).
    What to do?

Have you tried resetting the device? HOld down the home and sleep keys, past the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple and let it reboot.
Also...how much are you trying to import? is it possible that you're importing a lot and the iPad is getting lost processing htem all? Does it work if you only do a few at a time?

  • IMovie can no longer import video from camcorder.

I have been using iMovie '09 with a Sony DCR-SR85 camcorder for over a year with no problems. Suddenly, I cannot import from the camera anymore. With the camera connected and the disk image mounted, I run iMovie and click on the camera import button. It sees my camcorder (it says, "Sony DCR-SR85), then it spins its wheels and status bars for several minutes before it stops detecting the camera. Then, clicking the camera import gives me only the built-in iSight, with no option for the connected camera.
I have searched for other threads on this issue, but have only found solutions that don't seem to apply to me. In one instance, there was an elaborate procedure for rebuilding an AVCHD file structure. This camera records in MPEG-2, not AVCHD. The other solution was that iMovie cannot import SD videos in the same batch as HD videos. Since this camera has no HD capabilities, this does not apply, either.
Can anyone offer some suggestions? There are nearly 800 clips on this camcorder, the newest of which I need to import into iMovie so I can work on them. If there is some sort of corruption on the camcorder, is there an easy way to find it? If I need to reformat the camcorder hard drive, is there a way to import all the MPEG files on the camera's hard drive into iMovie? I tried dragging them from the camera's directory into iMovie, but that didn't work.

If 2 computers do not detect the camera then the issue is not the computer / iMovie.

1.) The mode the camera is in. Make sure it is configured for PC Connect or Mass Storage mode. Check your manual to determine what the required mode is for your camera.

  • IPhoto 08 will no longer import any photos/videos from my digital camera?!?

It seems as though after the most recent Snow Leopard update (10.6.4), I can no longer upload any photos to iPhoto on my imac. It seems as though this is a fairly common problem, and I'm wondering if anyone has been able to resolve it? I am honestly afraid to download any further updates from apple - every time something gets updated....something gets broken. I wish I was exaggerating here...since the initial upgrade to Snow Leopard, after every upgrade/update, major problems have shown up on my once-faithful Imac. Wireless networking, printing, third party software...and now iphoto.

Same here! During the last software update 7/23, I watched the update process and saw "removing files" as one of the last procedures. Did not realize until later that ALL of iLife '08 had been totally removed. A genius at the store told me that Snow Leopard won't work with iLife '08 and yet it was working fine until last Friday. Now instead of loading multiple photos to my MacBook Pro, iPhone will only allow one photo to be emailed or attached to a contact. They told me at the store I can use Image Capture instead, but that doesn't give me the thumbnail photos. Really dastardly update. Any suggestions except to purchase iLife '09?

  • My iMac will no longer import .jpg files.  With either iPhoto or image capture

Can someone tell me why iPhoto and Image Capture say that .jpg is no longer a supported format.  I've imported hundreds of photos from my camera before and now I can't.  I noticed this after I had placed the SD card in my Panasonic Viera TV to view the photos.  Is it possible that the TV screwed up the formating on the SD card?  I'm still able to view them on the camera, but unable to import them.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem does not repeat itself in the test library then your current library is the culprit.
If that's the case try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IMovies Changing Order after importing from DVD to iMovie

I take a burned DVD from our camera and then import it to iMovie. When I do this, after I get through importing it into iMovie, it changes the order of the film. Why is it doing this and is there a way to keep the order in place??

I'm not familiar with those 'DVDcorders', but what I've read here so far, the problem is: iM isn't able to read out the meta-data on some of those disks which create the time-stamp. instead, it catalogs by date-of-import
    two things .. :
    • check, time/date is set in your recording-device ..
    • iM09 has a feature, to set the recording date (and time) of a clip manually after import; read iM's Help how to accomplish that ..
and Welcome CoachC33 to the  boards ..

  • Itunes will no longer import

My itunes has suddenly decided not to let me import anymore. I have tried multiple CD's. It will start importing, get through one or two songs and freeze up the whole computer so I have to cold start it. It does this when i load songs to my folders through Media Player and try to import them from my hard drive as well.
I have been able to play all the CD's through Windows Media Player just fine. I have unloaded and reloaded itunes. My quick time is up to date. I have turned off all firewalls in an effort to correct the issue. I am at a dead end. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had the same exact problem. I'm using Vista, however. When I try to add a folder full of music to itunes using the "Add Folder to Playlist" option, nothing actually happens. It looks like it's working, but nothing ever gets trasferred to my itunes folder.
There seems to be no info on the itunes site about this. Help!

  • IPhoto will not longer download photos from camera or memory card

Ok, I have iPhoto '08 and a Nikon D70 camera. This morning I went to download photos from the camera and it was slower than usual to connect to the computer. All the photos show up as usual but when I click to import them I get a message and it can't download any of the photos because they are an unknown format.
I took the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader and got the same message.
Neither the camera OR the card reader showed up as a device when I ran the image transfer app.
Using the card reader and the Finder, I was able to copy all the pictures to a folder which I was then able to import into iPhoto. After than I used the camera to reformat the card and took a test picture and got the same error messages.
    So, any ideas?

I found a solution in a couple of other threads. The main problem is when you start iPhoto from the dock, the unix process is owned by root, and not as it should be, by you. If you start iPhoto from the Terminal by entering /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto, iPhoto is able to import the images.
I don't believe that starting the applications from Terminal is a good solution, so I looked for another - reinstalling Leopard seems to be the best option, and it actually works. I can now import images to iPhoto again.
