Implementing Menu Tree in the ADF Faces

We needed to create a Menu tree.
I.e a menu list and sub menus inside ont of them.
Something like this

ReminderHas any one implemented this and woul dprovide a sample code.
Please help

JDev 10.1.3 documentation shows you how to do this. Refer to the section "Using PanelPage and Menu Components with a Menu Model" for more info. Specifically the sub-link within that help page "procedures for creating a menu model" will show you the steps. An online reference can be found here:

  • Customizing the Tree Component inn ADF Faces..

    HI,
    I am using the ADF Faces Tree Component and was wondering wheteher we
    can use a specific theme instead of the default one..
    The scenario's i am looking at are
    1) Changing the Style of the Selected Node
    2) Programatically can i assign a different styling for a Specific
    Node (Previously Selected) in the Tree ??
    3) And any info reg Enabling the Drag and Drop functionality ?? As of
    now i don't think it is supported. Are there any plans of it being
    supported in the furture releases??
    Thanks
    Sateesh

    Hi,
    1) See tree skin selectors: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/skin-selectors.html
    2) You can reference a managed bean for providing the inline style sheet on a component. This however only works when the tree is re-drawn and not dynamically
    3) Drag and drop doesn't work in 10.1.3.x. In 11 this may work - havent tested yet - using a client listener component

  • Protocal between ADF Business Service (ADF -AM) and the ADF Faces Model.

    Hi,
    Anyone knows how the communication is happening between ADF-AM and the ADF Faces model ? I mean the protocol? Is it handling by the application server container with the help of ADF libraries?
    I knew in ADF Faces and EJB the communication is hap[ping via RMI/IIOP (standard EJB call). But in the ADF BC and application module i am bit confused about the access. I knew we can expose the AM as state full session bean. But by default how that is happening. Experts please help me to understand the architectural concept of this.
    -t

    Hi,
    the question is not basic and valid too. Just wanted to understand the motivation behind it
    For bc4j i am not sure. can we full fill the above deployment scenario?
    Yes, you can. ADF BC allows you to deploy the business service as an EJB 2.1 model and then have the Data Control hooking up to it (JNDI).
    Apart from this i would like to know the communication protocol (by default) between ADF BC application module and the view model which is the data control. In ejb when we create the data control we can specify that is Local or remote ( Some people said the EJB binding is not full supported in some cases but for ADF-bc it is). But how this is happening in the ADF-BC.
    It would work like a normal EJB client. The ADF BC client interface would reside on the web tier and access the remote business service. So there is nothing different here than when using EJB. However, not that it uses EJB 2.1 still and that we don't see customers using this approach in a web deployment. It made lots of sense (performance) in desktop application development with ADF BC, but in web application development a remote business service access doesn't seem to be state of the art (and even using straight EJB you would use the local interface and have the business service model reside on the same machine as the web module)

  • Curbing the shown level of a menu tree in an ADF page

    Hi,
    I have a hierarchy of pages defined in my faces-config.xml as managed beans using the MenuModelAdapter, MenuTreeModelAdapter and MenuItem classes from the SR Demo/Tutorial.
    On each page is an af:page component which has the menu model as its value. There is also an af:commandMenuItem component in the nodeStamp facet, mapped to the various values of the menu items.
    Example Page
    <af:page value="#{menu.model}" var="node">
      <f:facet name="nodeStamp">
        <af:commandMenuItem text="#{node.label}" action="#{node.getOutcome}"
          type="#{node.type}" icon="#{node.icon}"/>
      </f:facet>
      ... page content ...
    </af:page>
    ...This all works the way it is supposed to (manifesting as global buttons, menu tabs, menu bar, etc. and highlighting the correct menu items). However, I would like to specify a maximum level that the hierarchy can be shown to (e.g. only show the menu tabs and menu bar, but not the side bar menu - 2 levels) but still have the correct parent menu items highlighted when visiting one of the pages not shown.
    This is basically so that I can have a multi-page process that shows as being part of a section of the site, but is not accessible through the menu system.
    Does anyone know how I might be able to do that?

    Well at last I've been able to get this working. Unfortunately it's a bit of a hack.
    I've explained it all in my blog and I've also uploaded a JDeveloper application with all my code and example pages.

  • Unable to implement Programmatic ADF Faces Tree component in jdev 11g

    I have referred to the posts " [Back to programming: Programmatic ADF Faces Tree component|http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com/2007/05/back-to-programming-programmatic-adf.html] " and " [Follow-up: Programmatic ADF Faces Tree in JDev 11g|http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com/2007/05/follow-up-programmatic-adf-faces-tree.html] ",
    The first post showed how to construct the elements in the tree programmatically rather than relying on bindings (in JDeveloper 10.1.3)
    and the second post tells the only difference in 11g .
    I am trying to implement the elements of the tree programatically in Jdev 11g(specifically 11.1.1.0.2) but no result is coming .
    There is no compilation/run time error , its just that the tree is not visible.
    Can anyone suggest any key points which should be focussed during this implementation?

  • Suggestions needed for ADF Faces & JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 af:menu

    Hi all,
    We are running out space on our top level menu items and was curious if anyone has alternatives for a dynamic menu structure built using JDeveloper 10.1.3.4. Here is what our screen looks like:
    Any suggestions are much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi again Wes,
    If you want to keep using the ADF Faces menus... get a larger screen? :P
    Seriously, though, [url http://www.simplica.com/menu.htm]Simplica has an interesting-looking menu component that perhaps you could use (it looks much like the ADF Faces Rich Client menus). I've not tried the components, but have seen them - no idea if they would work "well" with ADF Faces.

  • Adf faces tutorial - Toplink model is out of sync with the database.

    When running the adf faces tutorial I encountered some problems. The starter workspace uses toplink and the model should be based on the OE schema database objects. However the Customers class is different from the database table, especially the custAddress (but also the phoneNumbers).
    Thus when running the application, the creation and update of a customer (with data for the address) raises the following error:
    javax.faces.FacesException: #{ManageCustomers.doUpdate}: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: Exception [TOPLINK-4002] (Oracle TopLink - 10g Developer Preview 3 (10.1.3.0 ) (Build 041116)): oracle.toplink.exceptions.DatabaseException
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected OE.CUST_ADDRESS_TYP got CHAR
    Error Code: 932
    Besides, the application is not able to display the address properly (due to the same problem) but shows something like: oracle.sql.STRUCT@43e and it cannot display the order_date (timestamp with timezone) correct.
    I get the impression that the toplink model is based on an old or modified OE schema and has not been updated. I like the tutorial, but I would appreciate it when it is correct and does not contain such flaws as descibed. Please update the workspace.

    Ship missing arch files to the standby arch dest manually and initiate recovery of the standby db.No need to regenerate the controlfiles. You might want to investigate the reason why they were not sent to the standby db.

  • Unable to find ADF Faces core option in the component palette...

    Hai
    I am learning ADF framework. Iam going through the ADF developers guide..
    When i am layouting a JSF JSP page .. am unable to find the panelPage option...
    In the tutorial i read like this
    component palette-->ADF Faces core ---> panelPage.
    I am unable to find this option...i am using Jdev10.1.3
    any one can help me....

    What exactly can't you find?
    The component palette? It is by default on the right side of JDev.
    The ADF Faces Core option? The component palette is by default initiated on HTML Forms (I think). When you click on this, you'll be able to select the desired option.
    The PanelPage? When selecting ADF Faces Core as describe above, you should see PanelPage among the possibilities.

  • Customizing ADF Faces Look & Feel. Some questions & suggestions

    Hi everybody,
    We are developing an application with ADF Faces using JHeadStart. For the moment, I am studying the way we must modify the JHS templates to adapt each element to our needs.
    As it's told in the JHeadStart Developer's Guide, there are two ways to customize Look & Feel:
    1) Modifying the templates
    2) ADF Skinning
    I'm using both methods, but I feel that thay are not good enough to adapt the L&F to our customer requirements.
    My main problem now is in the ADF Table customization. I want to use ADF Table because it offers us a lot of features that are not in the jsf table (the selection column, the table overflow...), and is very usefull combined with the generated JHS code. But at the same time, it doesn't offer a lot of functionality in the look & feel customization. Using JSF Table, I can set the CSS style for headers, rows, columns, the table, I can set the border, cellspacing and cellpadding. But I cannot do
    any of these thing (or at least, I don't see how) with the ADF Table.
    Our customer (a government) have a strict definition of the look & feel of his web applications. They want we use their CSS styles definition file, so they can modify at once the Look & Feel of all their applications. Modifying the L&F through skinning generate other styles, not use the style classes in our CSS (o so I think).
    So, the questions:
    1) There is any way to set the suitable styles for the ADF Table components (headers, rows)?
    1bis) Why, If I have defined a new skin, with only just a few selectors, some styles from oracle are applied? Maybe because the render kit in the 'adf-skins.xml' is "oracle.adf.desktop"? If it is true, how can I make that they are not used, I must implement a render kit or can I use another existent?
    2) Can I decide how looks the select column (for example a button instead of a radio button)? Can I decide where does it goes (right or left)?
    3) There is any way to hidden the text Show/Hide of the showDetail in the table (the tableOverflow), as I can change the icons through skinning? If it is not possible, How can I overwrite the text. I need it in Catalan, but it is shown in English for this locale. Where is the message bundle I should overwrite?
    4) There is any way to force a tree to start fully expanded?
    5) There is anywhere documentation about the javascript functions used in ADF and their meaning? I think for example in the previous question. If I knew which javascript function I should call for expand the tree and its parameters, I could put the call in the onload event of the body.
    6) I use a selectInputDate. I have skinned the launch-icon, and I would like to do a similar thing in the chooseDate that is opened in a new window. But It seems not to be affected for my skinning directives (if I put a chooseDate in the same page, its L&F follow the skinning rules I've defined). I don't know if this dialog is an ADF feature or a JHS generated feature.
    7) There is any way to keep unmodified the id I've choosed for a component? (I mean, an inputText with id="hello" in a form with id="form" will have in the HTML an id = "form:hello", but I would like it to be simply 'hello')
    8) How can I control the position and the size of a dialog (the chooseDate dialog or a dialog I've created)? In the cases I've been testing, it seems the dialog is forced to resize depending on the content. I would like to know if I can establish a fixed size.
    9) There is any way to open a non-modal dialog? (which I could keep open at the same time that another instance of the same dialog)
    For the moment, I think I have no more question. But give me time.... :-D
    The suggestion I've to do is basically more flexible components for a better customization (for example, the styles settings I've talked about previously). ADF components are nice and powerful, but I think they should generate pages that follow the tendencies in the web development: tableless pages (I cannot understand the utility of the objectSpacer existing the margins), use of CSS for layout...
    Any answer, comment or suggestion will be welcome.
    Carles.

    I have been able to make the UIX 2.2 and ADF Faces LAF look near identical by updating the oracle-desktop.xss file within UIX 2.2 as follows
    <!-- Change the accent color ramp to tan -->
    <style name="DarkAccentBackground">
    <!--<property name="background-color">#cccc99</property>-->
    <property name="background-color">#d2d8b0</property>
    </style>
    There are still some differences:
    1) A black line appears on the ADF Faces on the 'menu1' facet selected tab below the text. DON'T KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THIS FROM ADF Faces or add it to UIX 2.2!!!
    2) In UIX 2.2 a bulleted list uses the HTML <li> tag. In ADF Faces it doesn't use the HTML <li> tag rather it constructs the bulleted list using lower level HTML tags with the 'bullet' becoming an image, in my browser this means the disc is smaller in Faces. The motivation for this change I think is explained via this post. Since I have no control over how this specific HTML tag is rendered it forces me to replace the /adf/images/bltdscn.gif file in adf-faces-impl.jar with a larger disc!

    May update this again if there are other things I notice.

  • ER - Problem with ADF Faces filter when running ADF Faces within a portlet

    I am attempting to get ADF Faces to run within Oracle Portal, i.e. within a portlet using the JPDK.
    This, I am sure you are about to tell me, is not something that is fully supported, as yet.
    However, I have been successful in getting MyFaces to run within a portlet, by customizing the form tag.
    MyFaces, it seems, keeps track of the current viewid by storing it in the session, then uses this within the viewhandler and navigationhandler to determine the next view to load, based on the faces-config.xml navigation entries.
    By customizing the form tag it is then possible to retrieve this viewid from the faces context and outputting it in the form's action parameter.
    It is also possible, with a few more customizations, to run JSF RI within a portlet, i.e. by adding a custom viewhandler and loading a session variable with the current viewid from the faces context, then retrieving the viewid and outputting it as the action string in the customized form tag .
    Unfortunately there does not appear to be any way of getting ADF Faces (EA19 version) to run as a portlet, with either the RI or with MyFaces.
    I have configured a basic .jspx document in the <showPage> tags of the provider.xml file.
    This uses only the form tag and a few input tags and works when executed directly within my portlet project in JDeveloper (http://localhost:8988/TestJSFAppContext/faces/htdocs/facesportlet/index.jspx) using a redirectfilter (*.jspx htdocs -> /faces/htdocs).
    It is not possible to run ADF Faces with RI as a portlet since customization of the ADF Faces ViewHandler appears not to be supported.
    When attempting to run this with MyFaces as a portlet, however, I get the following message:
    oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilterImpl verifyFilterIsInstalled
    WARNING: The AdfFacesFilter has not been installed. ADF Faces requires this filter for proper execution.
    I am having difficulty in understanding as to why this is happening but am guessing it must be something to do with either redirect URLs or due to the .jspx files being under /htdocs, i.e. the ADF Faces renderkit is checking that the ADF Faces filter is configured but the check fails since the filter does not execute.
    I have configured the filter in web.xml, as detailed in the documentation:
      <filter>
        <filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
        <filter-class>oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilter</filter-class>
      </filter>
      <filter-mapping>
        <filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
        <servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
      </filter-mapping>
    <servlet>
        <servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
      </servlet>
      <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>ADF Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
      </servlet-mapping>and have modified the provider.xml file as follows:-
          <renderer class="oracle.portal.provider.v2.render.RenderManager">
             <renderContainer>true</renderContainer>
             <renderCustomize>true</renderCustomize>
             <autoRedirect>true</autoRedirect>
             <contentType>text/html</contentType>
      <showPage>/faces/htdocs/facesportlet/index.jspx</showPage>
             <editPage>/htdocs/facesportlet/FacesportletEditPage.jsp</editPage>
             <editDefaultsPage>/htdocs/facesportlet/FacesportletEditDefaultsPage.jsp</editDefaultsPage>
          </renderer>with the following tags also set:
       <session>true</session>
       <passAllUrlParams>true</passAllUrlParams>In order to ensure that the session stays alive so that the views are retrieved.
    As I say, the page loads OK when run directly within the JPDK project within JDeveloper, with a redirect filter (*.jspx -> /faces/*.jspx) but not when run from within Oracle Portal.
    In fact I have found that this filter is very sensitive, i.e. ADF Faces will not run in any project unless the configuration is exactly as above.
    It seems that the MyFaces team have got around the problem of maintaining session state with redirections but that ADF Faces needs the page URL that is passed in to the filter to be consistent.
    Is there some way around this, i.e. some kind of customization that I can implement to get the filter working?
    Thnks

    I have found a way to go round the problem.
    I use the servlet 2.4/jsp 2.0 route and then
    change the web.xml header to the servlet 2.3/jsp 1.2
    format. Everything then works fine after this!
    Please fix this for production.

  • Dynamically reordering columns in ADF Faces Table

    The Rich UI components (see ADF Faces Rich Client Components - Marrying JSF and AJAX together) that the ADF Faces library will contain with the JDeveloper 11g release - and hopefully before that moment - will allow end-users to do all sorts of manipulations with Tables. They will be able to resize columns an drag & drop columns to change the order - much like you can do in Spreadsheet applications like Excel. However, those components are not yet available to us. Yesterday my customer asked me if he could have offer the option to re-order columns in a table to his end users. That means that in any table component, the user can decide which column should be displayed first, which one second and which one last. It happened to be the same customer who was after the feature to show/hide columns at run-time, a challenge easily resolved in a previous article: Having the end-user hide and display columns in a JSF Table Component (http://technology.amis.nl/blog/?p=1331).
    I have written an article that shows how we can implement this feature: have the end-user specify the order of the columns in the table. I have used ADF Faces for this demonstration, but any JSF implementation will do. See: http://technology.amis.nl/blog/?p=1334 for the article.
    best regards,

    Well issue is that
    I have a list of values that can be chnaged any time during application execution sya its list of Fav Fruits..
    and in an other page i need a data table having these fruits as coulmns and their details as rows...
    how to achieve this..
    we can not guess the number of columns before time.. so can make the estimate and hide them.

  • Can't find Javadoc for ADF Faces components

    I have tried to locate javadoc documentation for ADF Faces Java classes, but am not able to find anything. For example, the ADF Faces tag documentation for af:convertNumber has the following comment:
    "Further more information see javadoc for oracle.adf.view.faces.converter.NumberConverter"
    But I cannot find this javadoc anywhere on the OTN documentation site.

  • How to Redirect to another page Using JavaScript in ADF Faces?

    Hi Guys,
    I have a UI user case that has a af:menu which contains mutiple af:goMenuItem. When user click on the menu, the menu slides down and shows up the af:goMenuItem. As we know, you could define the page destinations in af:goMenuItem to go to another page when user clicked, but af:menu itself cannot be redirected to another page. Well, the user case wants the menu itself could be redirected if user click on it.
    So I am thinking using JavaScript to do this: when the af:menu gets clicked, redirect to another page. BUT, I looked over the ADF Faces Javascript API and was not able to find that piece of code to do this. Any help???
    Another work around for the user case scenario is to use HTML marks + CSS/JavaScript instead of af:menu and af:goMenuItem but this changes the scope of technology although it's not hard to do
    Any other idea to accomplish the user case other than what I could think of ?
    Thanks Guys!
    Jay

    Hi,
    1 - you can have a hidden command item to do the navigation based on a control flow case. In this case, you access the command component from JavaScript create a new ActionEvent and queue it
    2 - JavaScript can use an af:serverListener to call into a server side managed bean method to perform the navigation
    there is no JavaScript API for navigation in ADF Faces because navigation in JavaServer Faces is an event driven framework and we don't support developers fighting the framework.
