Implementing Objects in Oracle Forms

Am preparing for my Forms exam and would really appreciate it if anybody knew where i could get online info/resource with examples on how to implement and manage objects in Oracle forms. Have downloaded 10g and the associated documentation about 200Mb which has got everything except detailed info on Oracle Forms and implementing objects.
Thanks
Gus

Thank you Rosario, not exactly what i was looking for at this moment but certainly something i will use as i will want to use PJCs, a very valuable link, thank you again :)
What i want to find out is there a similar type of guide to implementing object tables with relational tables in a simple form, as i have given it a try and haven't really got anywhere, so a step wise guide would be great.
Cheers
Gus

    How all r u ..
    i need ur help guys, pls help me out...
    i m using an object oriented approach to design my database by using nested tables and
    varrays. it is quite done successfully.
    but the problem is when i m trying to use that object of nested table into the datablock of the form it is not been added to item list of that block.
    so what is the proper way to use these type of objects to the form.
    all ideas are welcomed and vry much required.
    pls give example if possible so easy to understand or have any demo form related to above case then pls post me to my id i.e [email protected]

  • Using a Seq Num for Multiple Objects in Oracle Forms Ver. 6i

    I have a requirement to produce SEQNO for each course taken in my organization. There are 100 courses and each course has 20 people, so each course must start with a SEQNO of 1 with the last being 20.
    I need to cycle the SEQNO back to the value of 1 for of the 100 course batches I insert to the database.
    Can Oracle accomodate using SEQNO like this? Any ideas are welcome...
    Jim Clark

    It works for me on 10g but the only pitfall is the " * ", the workaround is to use the " & " in the label next to the key you want.
    for example:
    Button*   label &*
    Button-   label   &-
    Button/   label   &/
    Button+   label   &+
    Button.   label   &.Try it

  • Want in implement Java oracle Forms.

    Hi,
    I want to learn how to implement java in oracle form, and that to I want it using oracle forms builder and not using Jbuilder.
    E.g. implementing Java Beans in oracle forms.
    As I am a begineer in this field, please guilde me from where I should start and what I should read for this.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

    If you talk about creating Java components for Forms, you can't avoid using a Java IDE - but Oracle has JDeveloper, and it's free! :) What you need is basic knowledge about Java and how Forms can interact with Java components, and the links from Francois should give you a good starting point for that.
    You can also find a lot of inspiration of what you can do with Java in Forms at Francois' blog:

    Hope this helps,

  • Oracle Forms LAF Problem

    Hi,
    I've been working on Oracle Forms & the LAF project for the past 1 week. Im totally new to both of them.
    Constantly, im getting problem in implementing CSS to oracle forms using the LAF project.
    I downloaded the latest LAF package and followed the steps indicated in the LAF project site. But, when i try to run the oracle form, the CSS is not getting applied to the forms.
    The whole window is shown with a white background, and the CSS gets applied only to the Grid Body part. The changes i do in the CSS file gets reflected in the Grid Body part, which means the module reads the CSS files successfully, but CSS is not getting applied to other things.
    Even when i try running the sample programs provided in the LAF package its not running properly. The same problem exists. Only the Grid Body part is working.
    And also, the fmb file i worked on seems to be working properly on another machine. Is it that im missing any configuration in order to make it work.
    I've attached screen shots below. Please check it and help me with a solution.

    Hello,
    As it is clearly indicated on the LAF Project home site, do not ask question about it on this forum. Send your questions to the dedicated mail : [email protected]

  • Oracle Forms - Relation Objects Concepts

    Hi,
    Note: This is a newbie question.
    I have been tasked to address the following question:
    "What do understand by Relation Object? Differentiate between isolated, non-isolated and cascaded relation object properties."
    I have tried to search on this website to find information on the concept of Relation Objects but to no avail. Can anyone please point me to the right resource.
    Thanks and regards.

    Setting Relation Properties that Affect Coordination
    When you create a master-detail relation, you must decide how Oracle Forms should manage coordination between the master and detail blocks.
    Specifically, you need to answer the following questions:
    Should end users be able to delete a master record if there are associated detail records present?
    If end users can delete a master record, should Oracle Forms delete the associated detail records also?
    If an end user makes a new record in the master block the current record, should Oracle Forms fetch the associated detail records immediately, or wait until the end user navigates to the detail block?
    The answers to these questions will depend on application-specific requirements.
    By setting the properties of the relation object, you can implement the master-detail functionality most appropriate for your application.
    The properties that affect the functionality of a relation include Delete Record Behavior, Coordination, and Prevent Masterless Operation.
    Delete Record Behavior Property
    The Delete Record Behavior property (formerly called the Master Deletes property) allows you to specify how the deletion of a record in the master block should affect records in the detail block.
    You can specify Cascading, Isolated, or Non-Isolated:
    Cascading
    The master record can be deleted, and any associated detail records are automatically deleted from the database at commit time.
    If relations are nested to several levels, only records in the immediate detail block are deleted.
    That is, deletions do not automatically cascade to multiple levels of a relation chain.
    Isolated
    The master record can be deleted, but the associated detail records are not deleted from the database.
    Non-Isolated
    The default setting.
    The master record cannot be deleted if associated detail records exist in the database.
    Note:
    If your database is using the ORACLE7 Server cascading deletes feature, do not use the Cascading deletes option in Oracle Forms.
    Coordination Properties
    The values of the coordination properties Deferred and Auto Query determine when the population phase of block coordination will occur:
    Immediate (Deferred = No)
    The default setting.
    When a coordination-causing event occurs, Oracle Forms fetches the detail records immediately.
    Deferred (Deferred = Yes, Auto Query = No)
    When a coordination-causing event occurs, Oracle Forms does not automatically fetch the detail records.
    To fetch the detail records, the end user must navigate to the detail block and explicitly execute a query.
    Deferred with Auto Query (Deferred = Yes, Auto Query = Yes)
    When a coordination-causing event occurs, Oracle Forms defers fetching the associated detail records until the end user navigates to the detail block

  • How to implement the spell check in oracle forms 10g or 6i...

    How to implement the spell check in oracle forms.
    Is there any different method is there.
    Please help me....
    Praveen.K

    Here is one different from Jspell..
    In 6i client/server you can call MS Word spell checker using OLE. Below sample code for 6i.
    For 10g you will need webutil to use same code. install webutil and just replace "OLE2." with "CLIENT_OLE2."
    PROCEDURE spell_check (item_name IN VARCHAR2)
    IS
       my_application   ole2.obj_type;
       my_documents     ole2.obj_type;
       my_document      ole2.obj_type;
       my_selection     ole2.obj_type;
       get_spell        ole2.obj_type;
       my_spell         ole2.obj_type;
       args             ole2.list_type;
       spell_checked    VARCHAR2 (4000);
       orig_text        VARCHAR2 (4000);
    BEGIN
       orig_text := NAME_IN (item_name);
       my_application := ole2.create_obj ('WORD.APPLICATION');
       ole2.set_property (my_application, 'VISIBLE', FALSE);
       my_documents := ole2.get_obj_property (my_application, 'DOCUMENTS');
       my_document := ole2.invoke_obj (my_documents, 'ADD');
       my_selection := ole2.get_obj_property (my_application, 'SELECTION');
       ole2.set_property (my_selection, 'TEXT', orig_text);
       get_spell :=ole2.get_obj_property (my_application, 'ACTIVEDOCUMENT');
       ole2.invoke (get_spell, 'CHECKSPELLING');
       ole2.invoke (my_selection, 'WholeStory');
       ole2.invoke (my_selection, 'Copy');
       spell_checked := ole2.get_char_property (my_selection, 'TEXT');
       spell_checked :=SUBSTR (REPLACE (spell_checked, CHR (13), CHR (10)),1,LENGTH (spell_checked));
       COPY (spell_checked, item_name);
       args := ole2.create_arglist;
       ole2.add_arg (args, 0);
       ole2.invoke (my_document, 'CLOSE', args);
       ole2.destroy_arglist (args);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_selection);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (get_spell);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_document);
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_documents);
       ole2.invoke (my_application, 'QUIT');
       ole2.RELEASE_OBJ (my_application);
    END;Call it like this: SPELL_CHECK ('BLOCK.MY_TEXT_ITEM' );

    MichaelFerrante,Thank you for your help.
    I have already used the HS services to connecto to external databases from our main Oracle database, and the solution works fine.
    But unfortunally for this particular client he cannont have installed a Oracle database due to internal policies restrictions.
    I can not migrate the full application to another technology like ADF in less than 6 or 8 months.
    Do you thifnk that there is any other solution?

  • How can implement running total in oracle forms

    I want to implement a running total in oracle form
    like
    100 100
    300 400
    200 600
    500 1100
    200 1300
    100 1400
    PROCEDURE calculate_srno IS
    current_rownum     integer:=:System.Cursor_Record;
    starting_srno integer:=:rs_1;
    last_rownum integer;
    BEGIN
         last_record;
         last_rownum:=:system.cursor_record;
         go_record(1);
         FOR counter IN 1..last_rownum LOOP
              :sum_1:=:rs_1;
              :rs_1:=:sum_1+:rs_1;
         --     :offered_srno_to:=starting_srno;
              if last_rownum=:System.Cursor_Record then exit;
              end if;
         END LOOP;
    END;
    it is not working after want to insert between in the table

    Why write code for this? Oracle Forms 10g has Calculated/Summary fields that will do this for you without the need of writing any PL/SQL.
    Simply add a non-table item to the data block with the item you want to keep the running total for. Then change the following properties of the item:
    Data Type: Number
    Calculation Mode: Summary
    Summary Function: Sum
    Summarized Block: <Your Data Block>
    Summarized Item: <Your Block Item>
    Number of Items Displayed: 1 (if your item is in a Multi-Record (Tabular) layout else you don't need to change this property.
    You will also need to change the following property of the block: Query All Records: Yes
    If changing the Block's "Query All Records" property causes your form to be too slow because of the number of records in your block, then you could keep a running total manually by using a combination of the Post-Query and When-Validate-Item (WVI) triggers. If your block does not allow data entry, then you could do this with just the Post-Query trigger. For example:
    BEGIN
      /* This code sample assumes you have added a non-table item */
      /* to your block called SUMMARY.  */
      :YOUR_BLOCK.SUMMARY := :YOUR_BLOCK.SUMMARY + NVL(:RS_1,0);
    END;If your block allows data entry, then you would add the following to your existing WVI trigger.
    BEGIN
      /* Perform your data entry validation logic first... */
      IF ....
      ELSE
        ...Validation is successful...
        :YOUR_BLOCK.SUMMARY := :YOUR_BLOCK.SUMMARY + NVL(:RS_1,0);
      END IF;
    END;Hope this helps.

    *305501:non-ORACLE exception*
    I get this error exactly after the following line of the procedure,
    my_application := ole2.create_obj ('WORD.APPLICATION');
    This Spell check functionality works fine when implemented in a standalone form(When a form is ran from the Form Builder),Facing issue only when it is registered in the Oracle applications 11i.
    I searched various Forums,But i unable to find any solution,Expecting your help on the same asap.

    Hi Raja,
    Thanks for the Reply..
    Thanks a lot for your quick and efficient responses.
    But Iam unable to figure out how to implement this auto save functionality in this BSP Applicaition. If anyone has worked on this BSP Application <b>HAP_DOCUMENT</b>, can you please tell me how to do this auto save functionality. Is it possible that when I give this popup to save using java script and when the User clicks on OK, can I get the return code for this and use it to trigger the auto save functionality? And where exactly do I have to code this. Because the code here is bit confusing and the pages are called dynamically, even Iam unable to figure out the Button Id. Can anyone please help me out on this. This is a very urgent requirement.
    As specified by you, I have used this code to give the popup.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function alertUser()
    alert('Please Save the changes by clicking Save button');
    window.setInterval("alertUser()",300000);
    </script>
    Can I use the same code for save also, like this:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function autosave()
    htmlbSL(this,2,'SAVE:SAVE');
    window.setInterval("autosave()",300000);
    </script>
    I was trying with this but it is not working.

    can I run the developer 6i forms .FMX file from browser (internet explorer), after installing oracle forms server??The answer is yes if you can get it to install.
    I think you will need a FQHN (Host name with DNS).
    which operating system should we use to implement forms server?We used Linux, Red Hat 4 AS, But I think you could use Windows 2003 with that version. I would avoid Windows NT at this point.
    I have no information on using XP, I'm pretty sure I would not. I would use a server OS.

    To Inspect an Object
    1) Navigate to Tester Pespective in the Open script
    2) From the Menu click on Script then Inspect Object.
    Note: If you have already opened the Oracle forms window while recording leave it open. Else clicking this without opening the forms you have to all the way navigate to the Object forms or page in order to inspect it.
