  • How Do I Make Import Address Book Archive Work Properly?

    I have several address books archived. I have one for Christmas cards, I have another for my neighborhood watch program and others that I use at various times. Some of the archives were made using Tiger and some I have created in Leopard. When I Export an Address Book Archive it does so without a problem. When I Import one of my Address Book Archives, to replace whatever address book is currently located in Address Book, the import does not work. Once I try to import, I must quit Address Book then reopen it and I still have the Address Book resident that I was trying to replace. The only way I have found to replace the resident address book is to first archive the current book for the sake of having it backed up, then delete all the names in the book by selecting all then deleting by hitting the delete key or by selecting Delete Cards using the Menu. After the names are deleted, then Importing an archive works fine.
    Is anyone else having this problem or possibly have a solution to making Address Book work properly without having to delete all the current names before Importing an archive?
    Information: I have deleted the Address Book Folder located within the Home/Library/Application Support folders and rebuilt it under Leopard OS and then pasted the names that were resident before deleting the folders. So far, I still cannot get the Import Address Book Archive function to work properly. Thanks in advance for any helpful information or hints.

    Ok! Hmm... I indeed have tried to import an archive, did get the message, replaced all and had it working fine for me so it should for you I would think.
    Have you tried to log in your computer as a different user, launch AB and try to toggle back and forth between archives to see if you experience the same issue? If not, then it is a user specific issue, if yes, then it may be more a case of app/system issue.
    If you are able to overwrite in AB under a different user, then I would suggest you log in back to your main user and repair permissions (applications/utilities/disk utility repair permissions.
    As for your use of AB and different archives, I am sure no one is bothered by that. We are all users here trying to learn and/or help others. I would only point out that if you cannot find a solution to your problem, you may want to consider working with AB in a different manner than you have in the past and by your description of usage groups and smart groups will more than handle your contacts while avoiding mixing apples and doughnuts - but I am sure you have thought of that already !!
    hope this helps

  • Download eudora address book to ipod

    does anyone know how to download eudora address book to ipod using windows xp

    Does the program export the address book into vCards?
    If it does, you could put those exported vCard files into the contacts folder on the iPod under My Computer (when the iPod is connected).

  • Imported Address Book not linking - when typing, results are red

    OS - Windows Vista
    Thunderbird Version 24.6.6
    Issue: Address book was imported into Mozilla from Windows Live Mail 2006. When trying to send an email, even though the contacts are listed in the address book, when typing them out in a new email, they are still flashing up in red.
    Troubleshooting performed: Composed new mail, typed out email manually - this added to address book. There were four copies of the address book listed, deleted the duplicates and migrated the addresses from the imported book to Personal Address Book. Still not working. Opened Address book and selected contact, attempted to compose mail to selected contact, failed. Checked Address Book entries - found that the entries didn't import properly into the following fields:
    First, Last, Email - rather they got imported as Display Name, Nickname (with nickname being the email address)
    Solution: Went into each contact, and modified them by moving the 'nickname' (which contained the email address) to the 'email address' field. Now able to send emails through to the contact.
    Questions:
    1) When importing the Address from Windows Live Mail - how can we stop it from importing/mapping the email address field into the nickname field?
    2) Is there a faster way to update all the contacts to copy across from Nickname field to the Email field?
    Thanks,
    Angela

    If you import via CSV fie, you should be shown a dialog that asks you to re-sort address book fields so the fields in the imported address book correspond with those in Thunderbird's Address Book.
    Did this not happen?
    See "From somewhere else to Thunderbird:" here:
    http://www.ramsden.org.uk/11_Thunderbird_Settings_and_the_Profile.html
    I don't know of any easy way to work directly with the address book file itself; it's not organized in a user-friendly manner internally. These matters are usually best addressed either before importing (i.e. tweak the CSV file in a spreadsheet program) or via the import dialog.
    Alternative formats such as vcf or vCard may avoid the need to massage the data, but IMHO are less suited to managing address books. If you can use these formats, this add-on can be useful:

  • Can I import address book info from mac 10.5 to 10.7

    Can I import address book info from Mac 10.5 to 10.7?   It tells me "You can't use this version of the application Address Book with this version of Mac OS X.  You have Address Book 4.0.6."

    The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
    Try moving just the folder at Mac HD/users/~/Library/Application Support/Address Book from 10.5 to the same location in 10.7.
    Or in Address Book on the old Mac go to the File menu and choose Export Contacts Archive, copy that file to the new Mac and in Address Book on the new Mac go to File menu Import, browse to the archive file on the new Mac and choose it.

  • Imported address book contains six copies of each address

    I imported my Outlook Express address book (Address Book.WAB) into TB, but now I have six copies of each address in the imported address book. Deleting the imported address book and importing again only adds another copy of each address. How can I eliminate all the extra copies of each address?

    Gosh, after three days cannot anyone tell me how to (COMPLETELY) delete my imported address book so I can start fresh? Each time I think I have deleted my imported address book, I try to import again and the book contains one additional copy of each address. I am up to six copies at present. It seem apparent to me that each time I am not successfully deleting the imported address book

  • Importing From Filemaker to Address Book to iPod errors - Help Please

    I can export from Filemaker into Address book without any "obvious" problem.
    When I synch the iPod, or swap iSynch.vcf file, the records show up but the first/main screen only shows the First Last Name but the rest of the fields are way down below, causing you to have to scroll 5 times to see it.
    If I type in info into the address book it works fine. There is one single record that show up correctly, but that record is no different in the tab-delimited file (text tab text return)
    I have tried exporting with various formats and methods, excel, vCard Creator, etc. I am importing "data" not name address phone, per se, a cd collection. However, it is not two words in a single field, nor a field that can't take text or numbers. What type of delimiter problems are there in the iPod contacts? Would one records field that overflows it's space and expands cause all the other to "expand" or Push out as well. Are Thanks

    It's not so difficult. Export files in text (tab or comma). In the next field choose ASCII (DOS) in stead of MacIntosh. If you do so, it shouldn't be any problem with importing in Adressbook. Succes.

  • Importing Address Book From An Older Version To Leopard

    I'm trying to import my address book from my old, G3 iMac running 10.1.5 to my new machine. All my address cards show the .vcf file extension, yet I can't import them. I get an error message that says, "No importable cards found". I tried switching from .vcf version 3.0 to 2.1 with no luck. I tried importing them as a text file, still doesn't work.
    Any ideas on how I can import my addresses?

    I was able to solve my problem with the help of a friend.
    I found the Old Address Book database file under OS 10.1.5:
    Users->myusername->Library->Addresses->Address Book.addressbook
    I pasted Address Book.addressbook to the new Address Book running under OS 10.5 in:
    Users->myusername->Application Support->AddressBook
    The computer did a little conversion dance and everything appeared just fine.
    Hope this helps others.

  • How do I import Address Book data from an old Mac to a new one?

    I just bought a MacBook using OS 10.5.1. How can I transfer the address card data from my old eMac using system 10.3.9? The two machines are currently connected with a Firewire cable, and my laptop is reading the eMac's hard drive.

    It's actually very simple. In your old AB under the file menu click "Export Address Book Archive to your desktop. Then using the new system log in to the old via network and move the file from the old to the new.
    Then open the new AB and click import AB archive"
    You're done

  • Transferring iCal and Address Book from iPod

    I had a lot of trouble installing Leopard to the point where I had to backup my user folder, erase the hard drive and then install Leopard, and re-copy my files back onto the computer. Either there was a special way to backup iCal and Address Book files or it just didn't, but now I am without either. However, thankfully, I had backed up my iPod before I did the erase. Is there a way I can get the Address Book and iCal files off of my iPod? Also, to sync my files beforehand, I put on the automatic sync via iTunes. Will this be problematic when I first plug in my iPod in Leopard? Thanks so much.

    Similar problem here,
    I have a month-old archived version of my AddressBook, but today my entire rolodex vanished when the program froze and I force quit. I have a much more recent update on my ipod and have made significant additions/editions in the past month. Can I retrieve all that data from my iPod??

  • How do i import Address Book

    I am using Snow Leopard with a new iMac, and want to import the Address Book in my G4 Sawtooth running Tiger. How do get the content of the old address book to the new address book?
    Thanks.
    Robert

    Try this:
    Open Address Book on Tiger SawtoothG4. Highlight/select a group one at a time. For each group, highlight/select all cards within that group. Drag to your Sawtooth's desktop. You will get one "mega-VCF" card with a name like "Alice Adams and 43 others.vcf". Rename that file to "GroupName.vcf" (where "GroupName" is replaced by your actual group's name). Repeat for remaining groups. Transfer them all to a USB mem stick, or if the Sawtooth's USB is burnt up, too, email them to yourself. On the new iMac, put the mega-vcf's on the iMac Desktop. Open Address Book. Manually create your groups in Address Book. Drag and drop each "GroupName.vcf" file one-by-one into their appropriate group in Address Book. Done.

  • How do I import address book from time machine backup

    My address book was populated on an imac running Lion and I used time machine to back up to an external hard drive.
    The imac crashed and I've purchased another one running  Mavericks.
    How do I import the contents of my address book from the backup on the external drive to the address book on the new imac?
    Whenever I try to select or open an earlier version of the address book in the backup applications folder on the external drive, I get a message saying that I can't open the file because it is a time machine backup.
    There is also a diagonal line going through the address book thumbnail icon and various other applications in the backup applications folder and I get the same error message informing that these apps are time machine backups.
    If you have a solution please be as clear and precise as possible with instructions as I am not a computer boffin.

    Here's the situation:
    I have a G4 with Tiger OS that has 2 years of saved emails and Address Book entries. I just got a G5, installed brand new drives, and did a fresh install of Leopard. I did not use Migration Assistant during the install, because I have no router.
    Then I connected the 2 'puters with firewire, and started the G4 in Target Mode, and attempted to Import my old mail and Address Book. I diddled around and was able to import my old mailboxes. I did just realize, though, that only about half the emails were imported; there's a huge gap of nearly a year up until I stopped using the G4.
    Also, when I go to the Address Book and try to import my old one, it shows up not as a solid icon that I can select, but a ghostly icon, for lack of a better word, and it will not let me select it.
    I really thought this should be easier and less painful. I'm open to suggestions, including whether I should try to use the Leopard install DVD to try the Migration Assistant with a Firewire connection or an ethernet cable.
    Thanks.

  • Importing Address Book from Microsoft Outlook Express 5 for Mac (v5.02)

    I just made the leap to a Mac Pro 8 Core from a 350MHz G3. I was running 10.3.9 on the G3, but I was still using the old Outlook mail program because I was comfortable with it. Now I can't figure out how to import the address book into Mail 3.3. I know I waited too long to buy a new computer, But I was able to do what I wanted to do with my old machine. (In fact, the G3 was six years old when I went from OS 9.2.2 to 10.3.9. It worked better with 10.3.9 than it did with all the other OS's I ran on it. Try THAT with a PC!!!) So if I'm hosed, I'm hosed, I can live with that, but I wanted to pick the collective brains of my fellow Mac community people before I threw in the towel.

    Sorry - its late
    But you still should be able to export a CVS (Excel comma delimited file) - almost any address book can

  • How to delete empty imported address books?

    I found similar issues but the solutions offered do not seem to work for me. I have now got 4 copies of implab.mab in my profile folder (suffixes -1, -2, -3). I've tried deleting the extra 3 with explorer but they reappear. I've tried renaming them as suggested elsewhere but then the renamed and original both appear. Deleting them from the address book pane in the Write option has no effect.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

    Confirm these are address books you have deleted from the 'Address Book', so they no longer display in 'Address Book'.
    I'm not talking about empty address books which are still displaying - they must have been deleted.
    In 'Address Book'
    select the address book
    Edit > Delete address book
    note you cannot delete any default address books :
    'Personal Address Book' and 'Collected Addresses'.
    You cannot delete/remove old deleted address book entries via 'Config Editor'.
    You can access the 'prefs.js' file located in your Profile folders and open that file using 'Notepad', then edit the file and save and close.
    However, you must have exited/closed Thunderbird first in order to do this, otherwise editing the file will have no effect.
    I would also advise you create a copy of the prefs.js file before you make any changes and save to desktop to act as a backup - just in case of error.
    In your 'prefs.js' file
    Each live- not deleted address book shown in the 'Address Book' will have:
    'Description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position'
    eg:
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.description", "Test Impab");
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.dirType", 2);
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.filename", "abook-1.mab");
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.testimpab.position", 1);
    Any address book you imported/created and subsequently deleted from the 'Address Book' will only leave the 'position' line in prefs.js.
    There will be no other lines associated with that address book.
    eg:
    user_pref("ldap_2.servers.TEST_1.position", 6);
    This is the line you can delete - make sure TB is closed first.
    Note: Do not delete anything that says 'pab' or 'history' - these are the default address books.
    After editing the 'pref.js file, save the file and then close it.
    Then restart Thunderbird.

  • How can I import address book info from old mac to new one?

    Just got a macbook, and migrated all the info as per instructions. Now I need to get all the info from my old address book to the new one. Spent about 6 hours today trying to figure this out, and an hour of that was spent on the phone with a friendly but clueless customer service rep. Managed to get all the vcards transferred, but no group info. Since this is for my business, I need to get this taken care of ASAP--- help, anyone? Thanks!!!

    Exporting vCards from Address Book partially preserves group information - it puts it in the notes field as Categories, which is not very useful. I suggest you export one group at a time. I don't think you can import directly into a group, so create a group, import the cards for that group, then select all the cards in the "Last Import" pseudo-group and drag them to the appropriate group.
    If some of your contacts are in multiple groups the duplicates will be spotted on import. Unless you have hundreds of groups it should not be to much of a pain. Otherwise look at Gwenhiver.net - Applications - Address Book Exporter - it may preserve groups on re-import (but I don't know).
