Import fails (cannot create initial extent)

I am running an import (using the interactive screen, and importing 1 user only)
After creating a couple of tables, the import starts failing with "cannot create initial extent" errors.
When I look at the free space, the tablespace I am importing into, has no free space left.
What I don't understand, is that - I created this tablespace exactly the same size, as the tablespace I exported from (on a remote system). Source=4Gb, Target=4Gb
Why is this happening ?

I was never faced with that issue before so I am just guessing...
Did you create the tablespace with the same initial/next extent values?
Also, have you tried setting the tablespace to autoextend? It will not answer the "why", but it will at least allow you to see how much larger that tablespace needs to be and let the import finish.

    Thank you for your Help!

    You are running into database errors. You should refer to the database documentation on how to adjust the size your tablespaces. The online Designer installation guide will advise you as to the sizes of tablespaces you require. Thanks Sergio, to you and the rest of the HTMLDB team. I remember reading somewhere that there's only 13 of you guys working on this product, and with development work and answering all of our questions on here, you guys are really doing a great job and deserve every penny you guys make (and more!)
    Thanks again!

  • Unable to create INITIAL extent

    Hi,
    While creating a table i am getting the following error
    "unable to create INITIAL extent for segment in tablespace SYSTEM"
    So kindly advice how to fix this.
    Thanks,
    Vineet

    If you have a DBA there, ask them what the name of the tablespace is for tables and modify your table create statement to something like
    CREATE TABLE mytable (column1 NUMBER) TABLESPACE tables_tablespace;
    and chance the tables_tablespace bit to whatever your dba says is the tablespace for tables.
    It's probably a good idea to change the default tablespace for the user you are logged into the database with, unless you are logged in as sys, to something other than SYSTEM.

  • Imported XSLT cannot create attributes for generated XML element

    I have two xslts. One imports the other.
    The imported xslt creates XML elements with attributes and this XML is stored in a variable in the main stylesheet
    If I perform the transformation with JRE prior to 1.6.0.18 then all works fine
    If I use 1.6.0.18 or 1.6.0.19 then the attributes aren't added.
    If I add attributes in the main xslt it works fine or if I output the element directly instead of first storing it in a variable then it also works fine.
    Problem seems to be when you try to add attributes from an imported stylesheet and store the generated element in a variable.
    Below two stylesheets to illustrate :

                   }          Note : the 'testAttribute' attribute is missing

    Have found the difference in the code
    In both JRE1.6.0_17 & JRE1.6.0_18, the class 'com.sun.org.apache.xalan.internal.xsltc.dom.AdaptiveResultTreeImpl' has the following method
    public void addUniqueAttribute(String qName, String value, int flags)
            throws SAXException
            addAttribute(qName, value);
        }In JRE1.6.0_17 the next method is
    public void addAttribute(String name, String value)
         if (_openElementName != null) {
             _attributes.add(name, value);
         else {
             BasisLibrary.runTimeError(BasisLibrary.STRAY_ATTRIBUTE_ERR, name);
        }In JRE1.6.0_18 the next method is
    public void addAttribute(String uri, String localName, String qname,
                String type, String value)
         if (_openElementName != null) {
             _attributes.addAttribute(uri, localName, qname, type, value);
         else {
             BasisLibrary.runTimeError(BasisLibrary.STRAY_ATTRIBUTE_ERR, qname);
        }Note - the addAttribute method has additional parameters in JRE1.6.0_18 but the call from addUniqueAttribute wasn't updated.
    So in JRE1.6.0_18 addUniqueAttribute actually invokes the following method in the base package com.sun.org.apache.xml.internal.serializer.EmptySerializer
    public void addAttribute(String name, String value)
            aMethodIsCalled();
    void aMethodIsCalled()
            // throw new RuntimeException(err);
            return;
        }and as you can see this does nothing. Hence the fact that the attribute isn't added.

  • Diskless client NFS boot fails. cannot create /dev/nfs

    Hi
    I've set up a diskless laptop to boot off my server, both running Arch. I followed the wiki article: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Di … t_NFS_root
    PXE on the laptop connects with the tftpd server just fine, gets the kernel and begins booting up. At some point it begins looking for /dev/nfs, declares it does not exist, attempts to create it and and fails with the following error (from memory as I'm not at the computer now).
    "ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device root=/dev/nfs"
    my kernel param line in pxelinux.cfg/default is just like the one in the wiki article i.e
    default linux
    label linux
    kernel vmlinuz26
    append initrd=kernel26.img rootfstype=nfs root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=10.0.0.1:/disklessroot,v3,rsize=16384,wsize=16384 ip=::::::dhcp
    any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I'm assuming youve entered your own IP addresses instead of just copy&pasting from the howto, correct?
    Also, did you install all the nfs packages, and do the mkinitcpio-nfs-utils procedure?

  • JNI : cannot create JVM

    Hello everybody, sorry to bother all of you.
    I got problem with the JNI.
    I'm creating a Windows service that invoking a Java-based server via JNI.
    I'm copying the source from the JNI tutorial (from sun), and the problem is:
    res = JNI_CreateJavaVM(&jvm, (void **)&env, &vm_args);
    res will result < 0, means it failed/cannot create Java VM.
    I read on JNI tutorial that said the problem is because it cannot locate the JVM, or in other words, it cannot found the java library.
    I'm using JDK 1.4.1_01 now, and Microsoft Visual C++.
    I'm installing the JDK under "C:\Java\J2SE"
    and I'm compile the c program inside "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\Bin", and I'm also copied the JVM.DLL into this directory, since it's needed when i'm running the exe file.
    I already set the vm_args.version into JNI_VERSION_1_4 (0x00010004)
    Does anybody know the workaround about this problem?
    what directory should I put into vm_args.classpath? is it ".;C:\Java\J2SE\lib" ?
    Thanks anyway.
    Regards,
    Loekito

    Here's some stuff I can tell you.
    1. dont copy the JVM.dll anywhere. Use the registry to find out where it is installed and then load it dynamically.
    2. look at the laucnher directory in the src.zip file in the j2sdk. there are some examples in there you should find handy.

You could use import option show=y to capture import run statements and find CREATE TABLESPACE statements. Keep in mind your target database already has undo, temp system, etc. tablespaces so you do not need to precreate them. Then rerun import.

    2.When I export the *.dmp is about 200MG, but the tablespace is more than a gig full. Why is that?
    3.I have a table with about 300,000 rows and calculated the table size to be around 86M. Should I create the initial extent here to be around 100M?
    4.I tried to do alter table ExampleTable deallocate unused, but did not help why is that?
    OBJECT_NAME = EMP
    TOTAL_BLOCKS = 16296
    TOTAL_BYTES = 133496832

    export/import and CTAS.
    2.When I export the *.dmp is about 200MG, but the tablespace is more than a gig full. Why is that?
    Probably it is due of inefficient on managing the objects, which are heavily taken by tables/indexes. Tables/indexes were created oversize than estimation of data size.
    3.I have a table with about 300,000 rows and calculated the table size to be around 86M. Should I create the initial extent here to be around 100M?
    Yes, it is possible. Usually split into 2-5 extents is better.
    4.I tried to do alter table ExampleTable deallocate unused, but did not help why is that?
    OBJECT_NAME = EMP
    TOTAL_BLOCKS = 16296

    The next paragraph is guoted from Oracle documentation :
    "Use the deallocate_unused_clause to explicitly deallocate unused space at the end of the table, partition or subpartition, overflow data segment, LOB data segment, or LOB index and makes the space available for other segments in the tablespace. You can free only unused space above the high water mark (that is, the point beyond which database blocks have not yet been formatted to receive data)".
    Most probably on your case there is no unused block over the last used block on this table. So the deallocate function doesn't give any effect. As you described, the last used block is 11381 which is get from TOTAL_BLOCKS minus UNUSED_BLOCKS.

    Dear Hussein,

  • Error when Share to File "The share operation 'File' has failed. Cannot create file."

    Upgraded to Mavericks and the new iMovie. Imported a video from iPhone 5 to edit, and then tried to Share File.
    Error every time, it says that "The share operation 'File' has failed. Cannot create file." It does not give any error number that would help figuring out the problem.
    Late 2011 MacBookPro with 8 GB and over 150 GB free on HD.
    Imported several other videos from various sources, and always the same result when trying to Share to File.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    I'm having the same problem with a 2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retina; iMovie version 10.0.3. I'm not sure why either. It was working fine until one day it quit exporting to file at all.

  • Import fails with: ... cannot be overwritten as the id and name mismatch.

    We have a test and a production environment with portal 9.0.2.2.14A.
    We Use the exp/imp utilities to publish our portal.
    In the test env we dropped and re-created a corrupted dynamic page.
    When importing this component in the prod env we have the following message:
    Checking for type = DYNAMIC Name = MENU_PAGINE Id = 4867642631 ...
    MENU_PAGINE cannot be overwritten as the id and name mismatch.
    Import of MENU_PAGINE will fail.
    We cannot drop this component because we don't find it with the Navigator (I think that the previous import didn't create it correctly because of the corruption in the test env).
    Can anyone help me?

    Any component created wil have information gets stored in the tables wwv_modules$,wwv_module_details$,wwapp_application$
    Try to find the module_id of the dynamic page created, and delete it from all the 3 tables.

    The clock is set properly. Can you assist me in solving this error? This happens in a PC computer running WIndows 7.

    I created a different key and I have the same problem. I can send you the public key in case that helps solve the problem but you need to provide me with an email address because I cannot upload it here.
    Thank you for your assistance.
