Import to mysql using coldfusion

Hi is there a way of uploading a excel sheet into mysql that
has the same column names has my mysql database using coldfusion?
its a simple format with
firstname, surname, phonenumber

I suppose that you could create an ODBC datasource with your
Excel file, create theColdFusion DSN, then query your spreadsheet
"table" like any other database, where you could then loop through
the output and insert the rows into a MySQL table.

  • What is best method for learning how to use mySQL with Coldfusion?

    I have been using access databases for years with Coldfusion. I have a client that wants me to build an online classroom. I figure it's time to finally start using mySQL, but there is so much info out there, I don't know which way to turn.
    Where do you experts recommend I get started?
    Also, I am using coldfusion entrprise on my system at home. My machine is a 64-bit, 3.30Ghz AMD FX - 6100 six-core processor with 8gig of ram. Can I install mySQL on the machine and run CF8 without any problems?

    How much RAM left on your system? If the computer is strictly for development, then you have more than enough to run ColdFusion, MySQL, browsers, and other development tools.
    For MySQL download the MySQL Community Server and MySQL Workbench. There is also all-in-one package for Windows, http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/installer/ that you don't need to download the server and workbench separately. The installation should be straight forward.
    By the way, other CF users may suggest you to use MariaDB (https://mariadb.org/), which is a branch of MySQL.

  • Import / Export MySQL database in SQL Developer Data Modeler

    Hello,
    I have version 3.1.2.704 of SQL Developer Data Modeler and version 3.2.09 of SQL Developer installed.
    When I´m adding a new connection in SQL Developer, I can choose the MySQL tab an create a connection to a MySQL database.
    The connection test was successful and I can see all tables.
    I use the same JDBC driver for SQL Developer and SQL Developer Data Modeler (mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar).
    But there are two problems.
    1. First there is an problem when I want to import from a MySQL database (SQL Developer -> File -> DataModeler -> Import -> DataDictionary).
    After choosing the MySQL connection and pressing the next button an error occurs: CONNECTION_TYPE
    What is the reason?
    2. In SQL Developer Data Modeler I have not the CONNECTION_TYPE problem. But when I want to export DDL, there is no MySQL type selectable, although there is working connection to the MySQL Database. It´s the same in SQL Developer.
    What is the reason?

    Hi,
    Data Modeler does not explicitly support import from MySQL databases, although you can use a JDBC connection to do this.
    Philip described how to set this up in forum message How to connect mySQL for reverve engineering
    There is no MySQL tab in Data Modeler - you should use "JDBC-ODBC Bridge" - "other third party Driver".
    Set URL like : jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/database_name
    driver Class: com.mysql.jdbc.DriverAlso Data Modeler does not support generation of DDL for MySQL.

  • Cannot connect from dreamweaver cs5.5 to mysql using the mysql connection wizard

    Cannot connect from dreamweaver cs5.5 to mysql using the mysql connection wizard error Http error 403 or 500 internal server error. I am using ubuntu mysql.
    a manual php script work fine
    <?php
    // open connection to mysql server
    $dbc = mysql_connect('localhost','root','password');
    if (!$dbc) {
                die('Not Connected' . mysql_error ());

    if (!$db_selected)
            die('Cannot Connect' . mysql_error());
    echo "TEST DONE1";
    ?>
    but the database connection wizard fails with http error 403 or 500
    i also use the HeidiSQL client and it works, the only problem is in dreamweaver.

    OK.  Did you really mean to ask this question on a ColdFusion forum, if it's DreamWeaver you're having problems with?  You're probably better off raising this on a DreamWeaver forum.  "Using the correct tool for the job" 'n'all.

  • How to convert oracle 9i database to mysql using JSP?

    Dear friends,
    I want to convert oracle 9i database to mysql using JSP technology. Does there anyone who have a hint or some web links about this task? I searched the internet and found all of them are not free and no source code. In fact, what I want to do is really simple, I just want to first, reading the oracle database table structure information and then create the exactly same table in mysql, and then copying all the data in oracle database table to mysql table. But I dont know how to retrieve the oracle table structure using JDBC. And also I want to retrieve all the tables in the oracle database, so I can choose from them to convert to mysql. It seems that the structure in oracle usually have the tablespace information, I dont know if I can create database in mysql using this tablespace information. And I dont know where I can find the information about the functions in JDBC? For example, how to retrieve the table structure? Once I retrieve the table structure and create the exactly same table structure in mysql, then I can fetch all the data in oracle table to mysql table.
    Any hint will be great appreciated!
    Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

    Hi, beattris and rtg54,
    thank you very much for your great help!
    beattris, do you know if there is any such kind of tool free? I am a student and don't want to do commercial product, as you see, my work is very simple, in fact, just as you said, the most important of all is how to get the database structure from oracle schema? do you have any idea about this? or do you know any tool that is open source? so I can learn from it.
    rtg54, I just want to convert the database from oracle to mysql, after that, I can use mysql database as storage instead of expensive oracle database. the problem is that I have some data stored in oracle database and the application is built on oracle, after the convertion, I can use mysql to provide data to jsp or servlet application. I will great appreciate if you can contact with mysql about this problem because I don't know how to contact with them.
    thanks again and happy new year!

  • Trouble creating a database in MySQL using java

    Hi all,
    I am trying to create a program that connects to MySQL and can create databases, tables etc. I can connect to MySQL using the program but I cannot create a database (however if i create the database with the command line i can create tables in the database).
    When I try to create a database i get the error
    com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Unknown database 'persondatabase'Here is the code:
    import java.sql.*;
    class Connect {
    public Connect() {
    public Connection connectToMySQL(String database_name) {
      Connection con = null;
      try {
       Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
       con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///persondatabase", "", "");
      catch(ClassNotFoundException e) { System.out.println(e); }
      catch(InstantiationException e) { System.out.println(e); }
      catch(SQLException e) { System.out.println(e); }
      finally {
       return con;
    public void createDatabase(String database_name) {
      Connection con = null;
      Statement stmt = null;
      try {
       con = connectToMySQL(null);  //connect to mysql but not to any one databases
       con.setAutoCommit(false);
       if(!con.isClosed())
        System.out.println("Connected to MySQL. Creating the Database " + database_name);
       String str = "CREATE DATABASE " + database_name;
       stmt = con.createStatement();
       stmt.executeUpdate(str);
       con.commit();
      catch (Exception e2) { }
      finally {
       try {
        stmt.close();
        con.close();
       }catch (Exception e3) { }
    public void createPersonDetailsTable(String database_name, String table_name) {
      Connection con = null;
      Statement stmt = null;
      try {
       con = connectToMySQL(database_name);
       con.setAutoCommit(false);
       if(!con.isClosed())
        System.out.println("Connected to " + database_name + " creating the table " + table_name);
       String str = "CREATE TABLE " + table_name + "(id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, first_name VARCHAR(25), last_name VARCHAR(25), address VARCHAR(40), suburb VARCHAR(20), state VARCHAR(3), post_code INT(1), contact_number INT(10), email_address VARCHAR(40));";
       stmt = con.createStatement();
       stmt.executeUpdate(str);
       con.commit();
      catch (Exception e2) { System.out.println(e2); }
      finally {
       try {
        stmt.close();
        con.close();
       }catch (Exception e3) {  }
    }I am wondering if anyone can see where im going wrong? I am currently connecting with an anon account to MySQL.
    Here is the program I am using to test the above:
    class ConnectionTester {
    public ConnectionTester() {
      Connect s = new Connect();
      s.createDatabase("PersonDatabase");  //this throws the error
      //s.createPersonDetailsTable("PersonDatabase", "PersonDetails");
    public static void main(String[] arg) {
      ConnectionTester start = new ConnectionTester();
    }

    you should rethink whether you need to create a database using java. personally i think it's a bad idea. your database should exist and the schema should be ready to go when your app starts. why do you think you need to create one?

  • 'Using ColdFusion with Flex – sample does not work

    Hi, I am having problems with Tom Jordahl's article on 'Using
    ColdFusion with Flex – Part 1: Creating and running a contact
    manager application' found on link '
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/coldfusionflex_part1_02.html'
    I do not understand his instruction. In step 4, it states:
    "Copy the channel definition from the example Flex
    configuration files found in resources/config (default location:
    C:\fds2\resources\config\). "
    In that folder, I have the following files:
    data-management-config.xml, messaging-config.xml, proxy-config.xml,
    remoting-config.xml. So which file in this folder am I supposed to
    copy from. And where am I supposed to paste it to? Is it into
    WEB-INF/services-config.xml file ?
    When I ran the test,
    http://localhost:8700/samples/dataservice/cfcontact/contactmgr.mxml,
    I get the following errors:
    4 Errors found.
    Error /dataservice/cfcontact/contactmgr.mxml:31
    Definition samples.contact could not be found.
    30: import mx.rpc.events.*;
    31: import samples.contact.*;
    32:
    I am very new at Flex and trying hard to understand this sw.
    Can someone pse help. Thanks a million.

    What he means is to copy the channel section from the
    C:\fds2\resources\config\services-config.xml file:
    <!-- ColdFusion specific RTMP channel -->
    <channel-definition id="cf-dataservice-rtmp"
    class="mx.messaging.channels.RTMPChannel">
    <endpoint uri="rtmp://{server.name}:2048"

    <!-- This must be turned off for any CF channel -->
    <instantiate-types>false</instantiate-types>

    </properties>
    </channel-definition>
    <!-- ColdFusion specific HTTP channel -->
    <channel-definition id="cf-polling-amf"
    class="mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel">
    <endpoint
    uri="
    http://{server.name}:{server.port}/{context.root}/messagebroker/cfamfpolling"
    class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint"/>
    <properties>

    <!-- This must be turned off for any CF channel -->
    <instantiate-types>false</instantiate-types>
    </serialization>
    <polling-enabled>true</polling-enabled>
    <polling-interval-seconds>8</polling-interval-seconds>
    </properties>
    </channel-definition>
    To the file
    C:\fds2\jrun4\servers\default\samples\WEB-INF\flex\services-config.xml.
    The resources directory contains just templates for
    development, the samples
    directory is a fully-deployed flex app.

  • Cannot import com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions

    Hi all,
    I have a pretty simple question.
    Why it is not possible to import classes from the package com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions?
    My classpath is set up correctly I can use jdb driver to connect to my db, but if I try to import com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions I receive a compile time error
    package com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions does not exist!
    Anyone could help?
    Thanks for your attention
    By Manio

    Thankfully there is no reason for you to do this so it's really not a problem.
    You should ONLY be importing java.sql.* (and sometimes javax) but not specific driver packages.

  • Should I use Coldfusion?

    Hi I am getting ready to create a large web site. I am still
    contemplating whether or not to use Coldfusion over another
    language.
    Over the weekend, I've been reading the info on CF on the
    main web site and other article about Coldfusion's benefit over
    other languages as I have to make a decision soon.
    I just am still unsure. I'm worried about finding the support
    I need if I get into trouble with coding or if I want to try
    implementing something interesting. With ASP I usually could ask
    around and I'll get a pretty quick response about what I need to
    do.

    re: Opinion (unless you actually have proof, but you've
    never
    provided hard
    proof when asked for it, have you Andley?)
    Download vs.net (there's a free version specifically for
    building web
    apps) - prove it for yourself! Does cf have event driven
    databound grids
    that offer zero coding and complete flexibility for advanced
    scenarios?
    Heck, it doesn't even have a RAD IDE! Sorry - but the proof
    is there for teh
    taking of you could just take your blinkers off for 10
    minutes (yes, 10
    minutes, thats all it takes to build in asp.net what it would
    take days to
    do in cfml)
    > Microsoft seriously pissed off all their ASP developers
    when they released
    > ASP.Net. Where is ASP 6 now? Yeah, it has a "certain
    future".
    you got to be kidding! It was a revolution that was widely
    accpeted. IIS 7
    still has classic asp! So not sure where you gt teh idea that
    asp was dead
    either!!
    You seem to want proof and stats for everything. But when
    they are provided
    you belittle them. Truth is, the proof is right there fo rteh
    taking - and
    most people have taken it. Hence, lousy cf adoption.
    Lets look at just one of hundreds of details that point to
    the lack of
    demand (death?) of cf. Did O'Reilly not pull their CF book
    from print and
    will no longer be publishing it based on a total lack of
    demand of a once
    popular title? YES! Is this just one stray meaningless figure
    or is it
    backed up with tons of such data? Do sites like sitepoint
    suggest cf is
    alive and well or that it is "stagnant". Dude, your proof is
    all over the
    place in many varied forms. Just look at the number of posts
    that come
    through here each day - it's practically a ghost town!!
    (relatively
    speaking, it IS a ghost town!)
    re: Yep. you really are that delusional. Wow. You have a
    pretty big ego to
    think
    that just because of you, the image functionality was added
    to CF.
    Yes and No. You have to think of me as the represenation of
    all those that
    feel as I do - that cf needs more people to stand up and make
    a fuss about
    the way its going to the dogs (or the rich folk). If Adobe
    can't see how
    many people come to this very forum and see so much negative
    endorsement
    their product recieves, then we hav big problems. I like to
    think they
    "listen".

  • I can't figure out how to use coldfusion debugging on a remote server

    I can't figure out how to use coldfusion debugging on a CF
    installation on a remote server. Has anyone got experiance, I can't
    find any step by step instructions on how to do this using FLEX

  • How do I create a kerberos ticket using coldfusion

    I have 3 apps on our intra net that require authentication and would like to use kerberos to accomplish this. This is my set up.
    users log in to the network and authenticate via active directory (all windows based) , Our web apps are on a box running solaris 10, weblogic app server, cf 9 and oracle 11g.  A group of our web apps on this sever require users to authenticate through oracle (not the web / app server).
    I can authenticate with kerberos via a putty session on the server with no problems.
    USEING COLDFUSION, how do i request a kerberos ticket and pass the necessary credentials to authenticate.?
    can this be done.?
    I am looking for a CODE SAMPLE OF HOW DO THIS IN A UNIX environment  NOT WINDOWS.
    I appologize for the frustrated tone of this post. However, after a week of reading documentation til my eyes bleed, to end up chasing my tail with no truly help info............
    TIA
    JB

    This is something your web server should do, not CF. Configure your web server to participate in the Kerberos realm. If WebLogic is the web server (and not just the application server) configure that:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs81/secmanage/sso.html
    If you have WebLogic configured to use Apache as a web server, configure that:

  • How Do I Print my reports Horizontally using Coldfusion Report Builder

    Hi-
    I want to print my reports Horizontally rather vertically using Coldfusion Report Builder. I am using a very simple query
    SELECT
          Zones.Zone_id,
          Zones.Zone_name,
         Count(employees.cnic) as Employees
    FROM Zones, Employees
    WHERE Zones.zone_id=Employees.zone_id
    GROUP BY Zones.zone_name
    Or say Daily/Monthly Zone Sale with Zones in Rows and Dates/Months in Columns
    Thanks

  • Problem printing PDF picture files imported from JPG using HP Colour InkJet cp1700 printer

    When I print PDF picture files imported from JPG using an HP Colour InkJet cp1700 printer, the picture spills over.  A wide range of other PDF files print OK.  Have tried things such as configuring the printer to scale to letter size, etc,, but without success.  Have a Windows 7 64 bit computer and Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.5.5.  Any ideas?

    Hello there! Welcome to the forums @rt70
    I understand you're having some issues with printing PDF files from a website on Windows 7.
    I would personally suggest trying to print from that website using a different web browser. If you're using Internet Explorer, try FireFox or Chrome, for example.
    You can also try running the Print and Scan Doctor tool, that will search and try and fix printing issues.
    If you have any issues that continue, please let me know what they are and which programs, websites, and web browsers you have tried, along with the results from running the diagnostic tool above.
    Good luck and have a great day

  • New "Photos" is a piece of JUNK!  How do I get my image numbers to display as imported like they used to? Can no longer make Events or view old events as before either.

    How do I get my image numbers to display as imported like they used to? Can no longer make Events or view old events as before either.
    If this is replacing Aperture and previous iPhoto it is USELESS...WAY fewer options for editing available. New "Photos" is a piece of JUNK!

    Hi.
    I have just migrated my library from Aperture to photos. All seems to have gone smoothly, except for one thing. All of my photos are 'untitled', whereas in both Aperture, and previously iPhoto, the filename was used for the title. If I hit CMD+I and get info, the title is still there as the filename, as I use the filename for all titles.
    Is there a way to batch copy all filenames as photo titles, this was done automatically in Aperture and iPhoto, as when photos were imported the filename was used automatically.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.
